Here's one weird and interesting law in the UK that I just found out yesterday out of curiosity. I used to see ducks and swans walking around in the UK like say dem self na citizen. dem go de even de chance human being for road self. I started wondering e be like say these animals no know say dem be better meat for human beings o! Especially the swans, they are the size and even bigger than turkeys. Me I know say if that kind tin de happen for 9ja those animals for don go extinct 50 years ago. Anyways I asked google and aparently the answer I got was that the reason swans are referred to as majestic animals is because they literally all belong the her majesty the queen of England. So a law was passed criminalising the hunting and eating of swan meat punishable by death sometime in the 17th century. The interesting thing is that the law and its punishment has not been modified till date. Good step in the right direction. There are a lot of herbal remedies to common diseases afflicting Nigerians inherited from one generation to the next. It is a good thing that medics will now be taking a look at those herbal therapies. It would enable them elucidate the scientific mechanisms which behind those herbal therapies. And it would also strengthen the study of pharmacognosy that is already taking place.

Considering the fact that the state was raped for 10 years under the administration of a super mario bros (you know who). He is doing the best he can with the resources at his disposal. But showcasing airport road, sapele road and some privately owned hotels in GRA does not do justice to his efforts @ all. The bolded part of your qouted post just casted my mind back to what I saw in the dilapitated state owned secondary schools like Idia college et al. The air conditioned class rooms and refurbished buildings is simply amazing. I never thought that state owned secondary schools in the state could amount to anything but the governor has prooved otherwise. Those pictures along with that of the central hospitals and other things he is doing @ the grassroots are what should be shown to outsiders. Not GRA and Sapele road that have always been relatively developed compared to other areas even during the time of PDP rule.

In as much as I agree that Oshiomole is doing a great job in Edo state, there is however no need to be carried away by these pictures . Majority of them are pictures of different views from ring road and its appendages (Sapele road and airport road) and some hotels in GRA all a few kilometeres away from each other. Sadly, this is as good as it gets for now. Much more could and should be done. I know Benin preety well so I am not yet impressed because I have definately seen better in other Nigerian cities. But make no mistakes the governor is doing really well though! Kudos to him.

Since there is no proof of budgetary allocation for feeding or refreshment in Lagos state, then it is safe for us to assume that the governor provides it from his pocket. But at the federal level we all know there is a provision for feeding and we also know how much it is and we know where the source of funding comes from. Op there is no basis for comparism. Go back and do some more research to avoid coming of as being sincerely silly. no pun intended.

And who are the farmers they are going to distribute the phones to? If I plant two stems of cassava in my backyard then technically I am a farmer and I am entitled to a hand set. In that case every Nigerian is a potential farmer so they can as might as well distribute a handset to the 160 million Nigerians. However, in another analogy, if I have a 3 hectre cassava plantation and the government (comprised of human beings and not baboons)decides to implement a scheme or policy whereby cassava processing plants would be established close to my community and all cassava processors would be able to process their harvest to garri at a subsidised rate. Then the real farmers will benefit from the scheme as the chaff will be separated from the grain. Because someone who harvest two cassava tubers and feels the need to process it to garri can do that in his backyard with fire wood and a pan. Or if communal farmers markets are established and sheds are leased to farmers at a subsidised rate. Then a farmer who harvest two tubers of cassava in 2 months will not bother applying for a shed space. But the real farmer with a reasnable harvest would benefit immensely from such scheme. I am not saying that small scale farmers should not benefit from any government scheme as the examples I have given are hypothetical. The point I am trying to make is that this policy emanating from the ministry of agric is not well thought out and it seeme that the ministry lacks ideas and also we are being governed by people who are a little bit more intelligent than BABOONS. I do believe you are allowed to send your private research to a research journal- I sent to one as a grad student, and I was reviewed. Or maybe it was due to the school affiliation? Most researchers are however affiliated to schools and research institutes,because of the time and materials needed for research.

LOL, Technically IMO the paper you sent was not private per say because you sent the result of your findings as a grad student. And I am sure that your supervisor/s name/s was/were included in the paper. So the University you carried out the research served as the umbrella for your study by virtue of the fact that you were a student registered in the University. Giving it its desired credibility from the peer group that reviewed it.

Joythah: actually, you are wrong. Once a research is tagged private, it has nothing to do with your place of work. Although it will be very strange to foreigners that a his collegues were not carried along which is not considered as best practice in the world of research... Besides as a trained microbiologist, what makes you think prof ibeh dosent have his own laboratory. I know uniben very well. That's how they frustrated prof idu's attempt at protocol just because he and the vc are not on good terms. Prof ibeh must have seen all this and decided to go solo.

la furia: yes clinical trails are meant to be done, and ofcourse there are procedures to be followed for making such claims but its obvious prof ibeh is not making a conclusive fact but a probability that he is close to discovering a drug for AIDS. lets not forget prof ibeh is the dean of faculty, he gave a news breifing, he was excited and decided to share his excitment, his work isnt conclusive. its only wen it is conclusive that the university will come in, he didnt make science publication and didnt acknowledge the iniversity or cite them as area the study was carried out . the university should calm down their 'not carried along'............

the response from the school authority isnt encoraging at all, should defend him a little and at this same time claim ignorance of what prof ibeh said.

if this matter is handled well, with increase funding, we might see a progress in his reasearch......nothing is impossible, even if it was latter found the drug was just a vaccine..........

I agree with what you have written except the bit about the response from the school not been encouraging and suggesting they calm down for not being carried along. Note that the University did not on its own go out to disclaim Professor Ibeh but the provost was only responding to inquiries from reporters about the Professor's claims and as a result he gave them the University's position on the matter as of now. Which to me is a very reasonable response which maintains the integrity and credibility of both the University and Professor Ibeh. As a matter of fact the heading "UNIBEN DENOUNCES PROFESSOR IBEH" is misleading to readers.

I think you have a very good point here. The amount of money Dangote group controls is more than four different state allocation put together. Like you rightly said the government makes about 30 billion annually from oil sales. To further butress your point, take a look @ this analogy. 2,000,000 barrels @ $100 per barrel equates to $200,000,000 per day multiply that by 365 and you get $730,000,000,000. 60% of that is what comes to the FGN while the oil companies share the remaining 40%. so the FGN earns about 43 billion dollars yearly from oil. 40% of that is shared among the 36 states although not equally (I stand to be corrected). So what the FGN has @ the end of the year is 25.8 [/b]billion dollars while the 36 states and FCT share about [b]17.2 billion annually. Like you stated first of all salaries are been paid to civil servants and political office holders @ the federal and state level. Money is also been spent on other recurrentand capital projects. Make no mistakes this government officials, civil servants and political office holders steal a lot of money! But they dont have access to steal the kind of money that will make them richer than Dangote. And dont forget that they dont stay in office forever but for a period. Dangote is worth 11.8 billion dollars, IMO he is the richest Nigerian documented or not irrespective of whether the source of wealth from the individual is crooked or honest. Any way you turn the coin, heads or tails Dangote is still the richest. If you think otherwise, then feel free to debunk and discredit me but tackle the points I raised.

In Nigeria it should be the traditional wedding because not everyone is a christian and as a result it is not every couple that do the church rites. But however, traditional weddings are more generic to everyone whether Christian, Muslim, Atheist or Pagan. As for court weddings, i will stay on the fence for that.
