I have observed that lecturers are been accused of sexual molestation and corrupt self enrichment as a result of awarding illegal and unmerited grades to students. While I acknowledge that there is relatively high degree of truth in those assertions, I would like to state categorically that those claims are been exaggerated and are being used as a tool for blackmail. Yes some lecturers are corrupt in some universities but in most cases those lecturers are in the minority. I challenge anybody to give me reasons that I am wrong. Furthermore, among all facets of workers in the public service, the University environs have the largest percentage of principled and upright individuals. Evidence of this could be seen during elections whereby lecturers are called upon to oversee wards and units to ensure transparency because of the assumption that they are principled and are not easily compromised. A professor friend of mine once told me that no matter how evil a lecturer is he/she can never fail a good student. Evidence of this can be seen in a typical first class graduate. Furthermore if lecturers are so corrupt does that mean that all female student who have results comprised of A's prostitute themselves to get those grades? or male students bribe their way through? I mean not to sound offensive but only lazy students who have not put their academic act in place think that way.

Furthermore, even the NANS president uses those assertions to blackmail ASUU. He claims that one of the reasons NANS has refused to organise a public protest is because lecturers molest female students. If a student is been molested or extorted they have every right to take up the matter in any way they deem fit. Report to the school administration, if you think that is too far then report to your local student union and if you have adequate evidence I assure you that the hatchet will fall on the victimizing lecturer. The University of Benin publicly named, shamed and sacked some lecturers for misconduct due to these reasons. My point is separate ASUU from those "useless lecturers" ASUU as a body condemns such acts from their erring colleagues and if anything would stop at nothing to ensure justice is served to those unscrupulous lecturers.Finally I agree with you PROF Femi that it is an insult to generalize the stereotype that all lecturers are middle aged, money hungry randy potbellied individuals. @ bolded the answer to that question is most likely yes. As a matter of fact there is a scientific explanation. Firewood contains phenolic compounds which are Incorporated into foods cooked with it. These compounds give foods a unique flavor and also serve as preservatives. That is why you observe that jolof rice cooked with firwood (party rice) always taste better. You will also observe that fish or meat products roasted over firewood (barbeque) also taste better than gas oven roasted. I am not sure if coal as the same properties but I suspect so. That is the little I know about the science of cooking with firewood. Feel free to research further. By the way nothing like Juju when it comes to stomach matters.

Your genes are on chromosomes half of each were inherited from both parents each carrying a haploid (one strand) chromosome in their gametes (sex cells) and fusing together to form a diploid chromosome during fertilization with the resultant formation of an embryo later to turn to an individual with a unique DNA. Your DNA remains like that for the rest of your life it does not change. But individual gene expression can be altered as science has proven (that is a different story). However, it is scientifically possible to "change you genes by a process called "transfection" It is a highly regulated procedure. It can be used in gene therapy to heal diseases caused by genetic effects such as sickle cell.

This is an interesting thread, I wonder why it took so long to get to front page. That aside let me give my own two kobo. First and foremost my initial analysis is that most graduates of BMS have little understanding of what role they are meant to play in the medical field (i'll get back to that). Secondly the brutal truth is that a BMS graduate (BSC) has little or no role to play in a hospital. Now let me expantiate. As a graduate of BMS you are trained to focus the career path of a scientist (research) but you want to do the job of a doctor. What most people don't understand is that doctors are not scientist. Scientists advance knowledge, whereas doctors merely apply existing knowledge. Unlike the MD who does not need to produce any original research, scientist must produce original research and earn some professional credibility. It typically takes a couple of years longer to become a scientist most times you have to earn a PhD. Part of the reason it takes so long is that the scientist is being trained on how to think critically about existing knowledge, and it can take a while to find one's niche and fill a gap in the knowledge base. This means that if you yourself want to make important scientific discoveries and then tell the world about them, you will be much better prepared by getting a PhD than an MD. You also will be much better prepared to criticize studies you read about in virtually any field because you will be trained in critical thinking and writing. MDs typically aren't as qualified as scientists to evaluate research studies and their significance.

If you want to play the role of a doctor, ask yourself if you will be content with applying the knowledge you learn (MD) from other people, or if you would like to get in on the action of making the discoveries yourself (PhD/scientist). For instance, would you like to be one of the scientists who are figuring out how to cure cancer? Would you like to see if giving aging mice a particular the enzyme (one that you discover) makes their hair shiny again and restores their fertility (PhD/scientist)? Or would you be content giving your future medical patients the proper dose of the medications that arise from this research and then seeing the signs of youth return in your patients (MD)? These are the kind of things BMS graduates should understand in order to re orientate themselves.

This difference in training also means that if you want to know what the cutting-edge knowledge is in a given field, you have to ask a scientist in that field, not an MD. So for instance, let's say you or your mate is having trouble getting pregnant. If you just ask your local obstetrician or gynecologist what the cutting edge discoveries are regarding fertility, that MD is not likely to know. That MD can give you fertility treatments that he or she has learned about and tried with other patients.

Finally don't forget that a good number of doctors have years of postgraduate medical training and have become specialist in areas that are highly related to courses in BMS such as anatomy physiology and BCH. So how do you with just a BSC expect to compete with that in a medical setting. The upshot of my message is this: As a graduate of BMS it is imperative that you spend some more time developing yourself. If you do so you would get the same if not more respect and recognition that an MD has. Besides if you actually read medicine you would have to do that anyways. So what is stopping you now? Even doctors know these truths that is why you see them trying to get PhD's in this same BMS you are complaining about. While I give my props to doctors I would like to encourage the BMS graduates to strive to follow the path they have been put on and become the scientist they are meant to be. Make no mistake about it your BSC degree does not yet qualify you to be called a scientist yet. And if you insist on been relevant in the medical field this is the best advice I can offer to the best of my knowledge. Hope this helps and does not come in bad taste. Cheers

I wasn't fooled,i then realised the church wasnt for me. Since the head pastor doesn't have a clue about my questions,why follow what he says. Most of the time i was labelled an Anichrist. I agree with you that I do not have any authority whatsoever to pronounce a curse on anybody. But however by virtue of the scripture you quoted I put it to you that you are cursed not by me but by God according to his word. As long as you adhere to the doctrine that your works/deeds is what would bring you salvation. The scripture you quoted talks about faith without good deeds which I concur with. But my argument is the emphasies on deeds only which I opine are misleading and manipulative. @ OLAADEGBU I think you are too narrow minded and to much of a fanatic and an extremist. Those videos and testimonies are nothing but scams. I was the first person to ridicule what the prophetess said about going to hell unless you dress the way of the deeper life in a previous thread. I took out time to watch all the so called testimonies that have been flying around. And my conclusion is that the hell they are talking about is meant for them and their cronies!!! I will not stay and allow my country people to be misled. Nigeria is already a hell hole as it is and you want to scare people to think that after living in hell in this life another awaits them in the afterlife. Majority of individuals in the developed world are atheists. But in Africa we carry religion on top our head. And the irony is that we were introduced to all these religions by the west. It was meant to manipulate the Afrcan race just like their noble men manipulated their subjects with it in medieval times. I refuse to be a victimm of mental slavery. Although I still remain a christain. Why is there so much suffering and poverty in Africa when we are more religous than prosperous nations of the world. WHY?!!
