My opinion on this might be controversial, but it is my experience. I wouldn't go as far as saying avoid Nigerians, but I will argue that there are enormous benefits to be gained from mingling with people who are not from your own background. The last time I was on a course which happened to have 2 Nigerians in it, one of them was trying to convert me to his faith.
You killed me with that line.

Please I have a question and I need help. I have a 2months+ son, gave birth here in the Uk in March and I'm on a dependent visa, my husband is the one schooling. Is my son entitled to free NHS treatment and to what age? I'm I to apply for visa for him? Elders, kindly advise
Congrats. For NHS treatment, I did not give birth to my son in the UK and he gets proper treatment from the Health payment we made (which you tag as free). So I am very sure your son will get that treatment for free (in your words) cos the ones wey dem born outside but de here de get the treatment. I don’t know what part of the UK you are in, but from what I have seen, this UK people don’t joke with “kids n treatment”. So you go enjoy that one wella.

For the visa part, I think getting him a passport is the thing first, I think visa part go be issue when you decided to carry am comot from UK and come back e go turn issue. I am not sure of this, only answering from reasoning, so you will have to wait for the 20yrs UK resident them to answer. The only reason why I am writing the part I am not sure of is because when woman born her worry de increase expecially when the matter na about the child. So na to calm you down and let you know say nothing de happen.....

Bros marriage matter no easy, I no de like put my mouth inside. I have realized we all want different things, some people are fine with crazy people, because there is a part of that crazy person they don’t see outside. I guess that’s what is meant by “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.”

The only thing I tell anyone is don’t lie to yourself. If it’s not working or going to work, you will always know, but sometimes we want to lie to ourself just to keep faith.

Hello Everyone, Am waiting for admission in a particular school but now I have a change of mind on the course I applied for initially. Now I intend applying again to the same school but with different email for another course. Whats my likely judgment please.

What's the rules on multi application( diff course) in one school
I don’t know about the using a different email address part, but it’s normal to have a change of heart. You don’t have to apply from a different email address. I think you can write to the school to inform them of your decision and let them advice you on what to do next. But I think it’s normal to want to change course as long as you have the qualifications for the new program.

It took me 4 months in the UK to be able to manage my time properly. I think that’s the biggest thing living in the UK to be precise.

Now I know how to manage:
Academics,
Me time,
Spending time with my wife,
Spending time with my son,
Spending time with my wife and son,
Managing my businesses,
And creating time to speak to family and friends around the world.

The only part that was completely shut was the nairaland time. But now we have gotten that part figured out.

Cant stop thanking the people here for all the advice. If you comment on here and you ever doubt your contributions to the world, baba doubt no more, na una de make some people life better and una no know.

Electric heating is way more expensive than gas heating.

When I was a student in Aberdeen I lived in a house with electric heating, its quite common in northern Scotland. You might have to use it sparingly, depending on your pocket, of course.

However, given this whole global warming stuff, the fact is that you rarely get extreme temperatures in most cities in the UK any more, and you could be fine with a fleece-covered duvet and bedding at night these days.
Thanks man. I think I understand you clearly.

Good morning all, what’s your advice on getting a property with this rating in the pic.

I remember Fatima once advised last year to go for houses on b or c. Generally I am concerned as to how high the bills will be.

(The property is further enhanced by double glazed window units and electric heating.)

Disclaimer: I’m not “attacking you”. Just sharing knowledge and hoping to learn too.

Africa’s predicament has nothing to do with this. Maybe a negligible amount. Hear me out.

This Africa you see is truly the raw material of the world. Europe, Asia and North America depend heavily on it. They will never let it go. They will never let it have the right leaders. The ones that go against them will get toppled or worst, killed.

Then there’s the IMF debt strategy and the so called aide and “poverty alleviation”. Look at China and it’s low-key moves in Africa right now. They wouldn’t even use local manpower. They’ll import their workers too.

Look at our school curriculum and the entire educational infrastructure. How are we to compete?

The greatest trick was making use believe it’s our fault all along. “You are corrupt and stupid” Blame yourself. Divert your attention from the fact that for every barrel of crude oil, we get very little proceeds back. Tons of raw materials leave the shores of Africa for shikini money. They need it that cheap.

Major industrialisation will not be allowed, least our eyes open and we realise the potential of what we have. A nation can only rise above and meet today’s standards through industrialisation. Manufacturing what they use.

Well look around Africa na. Unrest, dictatorship and famine. Nothing tangible is working. Shey wen you have constant electricity, water, housing and good healthcare system then you’ll diversify more?

Then enters mass brain drain for greener climes. Leaving Africa worst off.

They install your leaders. Why was Charly in the north at the height of political tension between GEJ and PMB? Yaradua’s death was a huge loss to us because that man wasn’t having it. That was quickly closed off with tensions between Niger delta and the north.

There’s money in chaos. Everyone is out to grab for himself. Get into naija politics and it’ll be well revealed. Nobody dey run anything. It’s money to share they’re all after.

It’s not our fault. There’s powers preventing us from rising above. For a minute, imagine this was naija here. You realllllllly think I’ll up and leave when my naira is the highest currency in the world?
Trust me bro, if you still believe our problem or challenges is caused by another (country or person) then you are listening to “them say”. Nigeria’s problem is Nigerians. Let me take you back to how things were in the old days. In a village, they combine resources (money n other stuff) to send a promising person in the village to school, he gets the knowledge and comes back to develop the village. A lot of communities in the past grew this way (I am sure some didn’t work out, but that’s not the point of the example). What I am saying or trying to say is that we need develop our self for the growth of our nation and not just the growth of ourself and family. Lately, the generation brewing is a selfish and self centered one. It’s all about ourself. I will tell you what is contributing to this selfish nature. It’s cos of constant comparison by Nigerian parents. We compare kids a lot and now they want to be the best alone and not collectively. No more group best, just single best. Let me even give you a funny example, before we use to have music groups, a lot of them, at some point it just changed to everybody solo. At the end of the day, I go sing one song, you go use the same beat sing your own, something wey we suppose de sing as group. But na me sing pass no go let me bring you in.

See eh, this Naija matter don de pain me since. Make I just stop here before I go go de take the thing personal.

No, I think you got the message wrongly. “Very Very” doesn’t mean i don’t know it’s real, it means it raises the bar to the highest, that’s why it has 2 VERY’s. The truth is the COVID is getting to a new height more like daily and there is a constant reminder from the views from my window.

As Nigerians we believe that beating a child is a good corrective method and a lot of this believe comes from the fact that we were beaten and we turned out fine. But the thing is, we didn’t turn out fine because we were beaten or corrected, we turned out fine because we decided to turn out fine. Because of that childhood beating we now have itching hands, when a child does anything we perceive as wrong the next thing is to hit that child.

If I am to advice anyone, I will say one should try everything possible to not beat their child, reason is cos learning this days is far far different from how we learnt in those days. Now children understand conversation and because they are thought this things in school, they now believe that their parents are suppose to talk to them or discuss things with them and not hit them. As a parent who lived both life’s (old and new), you should understand that environment is key in everything in life, if your child is here, you have no option but to raise them as it is done here( by this I mean the right ways), if they are in Naija you can add some of the things of their surroundings in discipline. If you treat or raise a child here in the Naija way, you will break that child, trust me, and if he’s in Naija you have to raise him the Naija way but add civilization to it.

E no easy at all but, I think it’s the right thing to do. Expecially in this modern day, cos you can’t be living the old ways in this new age.

The vaccine system in Nigeria and UK are totally different and not aligned. What my family member did was when they were registering for GP when they came (although this was in jan session before covid) . They were asked to submit the naija immunization card and the nurse aligned it to what expected in the UK and arrange a followup vacine that was missing for 1 year old and I think the next is at 3 years

Call your gp and ask what the next step is for a toddler immunization. They would be able to guide you
Yeah, I have his card. We have not registered with any health center. Looking at getting a permanent accommodation then we can register close to the house or what do you think. We should just register and transfer when we get a permanent place. The lockdown is just making little things big.

So something has been on my mind since. My son was suppose to have a 1yr 6months vaccine in Naija, but we are here now and I expect his suppose to get some vaccine here but this corona virus no let person go hospital to ask or confirm anything.

What are we suppose to do now. Or maybe my question should be what vaccine is he suppose to take here at that age and how do we go about it with the corona situation. I have seen news of doctors (GP) moving to attend to COVID due to shortage.

Tho he’s very fine and no issues. I introduced fruit to him early to help boost his immune system right from Naija and he has never fallen ill since birth except those teething temperatures. I still feel like he’s suppose to get some vaccines here, if not continuation of his Nigerian vaccine, something that is taken here for kids his age.

Abeg experience people make una advice me, what are we suppose to do.

You are given sanitisers and wipes inflight, the airline wipes down everywhere. If you touch a door knob, you wipe as well. In addition, you have your mask on all through.

In this era of covid, any form of public transportation..... Is simply a covid hub........ cheesy
For COVID matter, I think avoiding using the bus because of getting infected is a little too much cos the chances in supermarket, shopping centers and even your house door knob (not your room) is also a risky thing to do.

I have one rule, in whatever you do, don’t take your nose mask off or touch your face and if you must take off the mask (to use faceID), make sure to use a hand sanitizer. For me I go out and not take it off all day, I have accepted that it’s our new accessory. You enter a bus, give space and be careful. Come down use hand sanitizer immediately. But avoiding a bus for fear of COVID mean you will avoid going to supermarkets, you will also avoid delivery of grocery cos you don’t know who selected the items you ordered if he’s infected.

The earlier you start to live with the virus, the better for you Cos from what I am seeing, the Virus is gonna be around for some years. Not just because of the vaccines, but because of the people. People still have little or no idea about the virus and some still thinks it’s the government trying to control the people.

Have you considered getting bus pass. I don’t know which part you are in, but since there is lockdown in the uk and you won’t be able to move round, I will advice you set all your journey for one day. That day you get a “day bus pass”, set out early and do all what you want to do that day with the daily bus pass. That way you spend only mayb 4.6p or 5p and do all your runnings. Becos this one wey you won start to learn bicycle for road, make e no turn “Egugun be careful” matter ooo.

@5gee @Tobexin @Flinton,

I think a better way would be depositing naira, then buying Busd, then using it to buy Bitcoin or any other coin. Busd is binance own dollar and it’s lesser than USDT and also gives you that balance calculation for your dollar to Bitcoin. That naira own de be like cheating if you calculate an reach ground.

Also someone suggested Resolut bank to me here and it’s actually a good one. They are familiar with Crypto and offer their own package too for crypto. Tho I don’t intend to use them for crypto (at least not now) but being familiar with Cryptocurrency means they will understand the payment that comes in from the payment channels and not give you wahala that can be possible from these other banks that don’t believe in Cryto. I know say most banks don de come in now, but no be person money them go hold and use learn crypto as HBSC de do people.
