GrecoSolar: That's cool. You use victron battery. Did you buy directly from victron...
Victron refused to sell us Lithium batteries. They insisted on selling us AGM or GEL. Excuse is that they don't sell them in Africa. Absolute horse poop in my opinion.
These are the kind of installs that make guys like us look like learners.
Such top range tech equipment deployed - how far can the client safely drain this 24v 200ah Lithium bank?
It seems you have prioritized ability to run larger day time loads over energy storage for evening to early morning use - I am inferring this from the Solar Array to battery storage ratio - at least 11kwh daily solar yield vs ~4.8kwh battery storage capacity.
viperVIP: I already brief the full story above. I got mad at him for sending me a different product compared to what I paid for and for that reason, he's mad and doesn't want to take responsibility for the batteries as earlier agreed. I can screenshot whatsapp conversations when matters get to that extent. so no one lies...
Buy from people with brick and mortar shops. I had a nasty experience with him too. I paid for new batteries and he delivered used batteries and then denied that he sold me used batteries. The batteries had scratches and broken vents. I have actually blocked him on my whatsapp. He has no shame or scruples. Lesson learnt.

Thank you my brother. We are all learners. There are two batteries. We have a 48V inverter. 10kwh. Victron allows up to 90%. We will program 80%. We ran into a challenge at the installation. Client has a 3 phase Siemens automated electrical panel. It has 3 phase coming in and out. We are in communications with the Italian firm that installed it. If they are unable to allow a single phase connection we will have two do a three phase solution. The client is aware and waiting for an update. We will post pictures once we complete the job. I appreciate you. Have an awesome weekend

What angles for solar panel mounting have you found to yield the best results?
I am about to experiment with an unconventional arrangement of a small solar array in my family home and I would very much like to squeeze maximum juice from the array.
Good evening. I will ask our interns what results they got. My panels are pretty flat. We have lower yields this time of the year. The ideal I was told is 20 to 30 degrees. I have yet to put that to the test. We are adding additional PV. Our inverter allows two separate strings up 1800 per string we will tilt one and post our conclusions once we conduct the tests
sinistrian: @chris81964 @NiyiOmoIyunade and @makavele Is it strange to get 20A max from a 2x2 arrangement of 300W panels? That's the highest current i've seen today @ around 12:30pm and my batteries were about 57%, even after washing the dust off the panels daily. The panels are ground mounted (i didn't have any other option, landlord issues) and the Charge controller is a Fangpusun MPPT 100|50.
The angle at which sun hits the panels can affect how much you see in production. We experimented with angles in our office and the result was nothing short of amazing. Silly question are you 24 / 48 Volts?
If you did that and are getting more than 30 V from your PV. They are bigger than 100 Watts. Your voltage will be in the high teens after the controller kicks in on 100 watt panels. Do you have the manual? You might want to connect them in series, thinner cables, longer distances and better efficiency. Good luck welcome to our world. The most I saw out of 2600 watts today was a little under 1500 watts. So if you are seeing over 300, you might really have 150 to 200 watt panels.
GrecoSolar: Hi Chris, how are you... I hope you are doing well. How was your test going with the lithium batteries last time... Thank you for a feedback.
We had delays in bringing them into Nigeria. We hope to run tests next week. Thank you for the follow up.
sinistrian: Hello guys, I'm a new member. I've been using an inverter (Luminous EcoVolt 1500) for about a year now and I've decided to go solar because NEPA has become awfully unreliable and i cant get my batteries (2 x 12V 200AH connected in series) charged enough.
I bought a 3kVA hybrid inverter that claims to have an inbuilt Solar charge controller supporting 50A max, and 2x 300W 24V panels. What's the best way to arrange the panels to get my batteries charged in the shortest possible time? Do i need more panels?
If I want to add 2x more batteries in the future, will the system be able to accommodate it and what will need to change?
50 amps 24 V is the maximum PV your system can handle. However I do 50 x 29 V which might be the maximum your battery will reach during the bulk and absorption phase. To determine your needs take a look at each item you run and multiply by the hours you run them. Get your kwh and work backwards. Good luck. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all of you
System for sale. Our client in Isolo is upgrading to a bigger system when he moves to the Island in January. He purchased this system in February of this year, It is a Schneider SW 2524 kw, Conext 60/150 MPPT controller, a victron battery monitor, six 300 watt mono panels and eight 6V US2000 flooded batteries. Maintenance of the system has been performed by AWPS Renewable Energy. Customer always had battery above 65%.
The inverter and controller alone cost over N800,000 brand new. Please no silly low ball offers

pranil: Please crosscheck first Growatt may not be rated for off grid use - Many batteries like LG /Samsung /Tesla cannot be used purely off grid only in ESS due to limited current
even BYD recommends one 2.5 KWH for ESS and atleast 3no. 2.5 KWH for Offgrid . Even though one 2.5 KWH battery is enough to carry 5 KW at 25 DEG C for short time
As I reported 4 of my BYD together are reporting 130 amps continuous discharge current at 30 DEG . this limit is dynamic and informed by the battery to inverter.
Hello Pranil. Thank you for the update. LG does not do off grid use with the Victron however GoodWe supports it in off grid use. Growatt only supports the use of their inverters in off grid mode. They don't recommend using it with any other inverters. GoodWe has the same recommendations for the BYD batteries as BYD. They have minimum KWH that they recommend on their inverters.
brojero: it's a caterham 7 , quite popular in the UK. not a racing car, just unique for it's pre-1940 design. can also be bought completely knocked down and the buyer assembles himself.
pranil: Just finished putting in service BYD Pro 10 KWh 48 Volts - took 90 minutes to charge from 50 % to 100 % ( was charging at 70 amps) Now sitting idle. will do a load test tomorrow but the battery is reporting 130 amps rating at 30 DEG which is not bad as my inverter is rated only for 5 KW .
Integrated nicely with my Victron inverter and CCGX with canbus communication and safety contactors
still a lot of cleanups to do so other photos will follow later-
Loving your new batteries and Inverter. We are bringing in some Victron Energy and Growatt Lithium batteries. We will be installing them very soon. We had the option of the BYD, but the form factor did not appeal to the customer. We hope to do a LG next year as well. Keep flying the flag. The ability to fast charge those batteries appeal to me more than anything else.

kiekie1: SOLAR ENERGY- GOING GREEN - RENEWABLE ENERGY IS REALLY AN INVESTMENT !
The spoilt system in Nigeria is still affecting so many parastatals .. To mention are few , take a look at this case study of what's happening in Oshodi area of Lagos state as published by my friend ;
"Can Ikeja Electric call the Oshodi office to order while APC and Governor Ambode too should call Oshodi /Isolo LG guy to order. The whole area in total blackout for a week because both parties failed to apply reasoning and wisdom. How I wish the Council boss resides in the hood to know what people are going through with the very bad states of the roads and now with NO electricity especially when the country is enjoying 7001 MW. For the sake of the residents both warring parties shouldn't please put and end to this stupidity show of stupid power. In all this is shame of a Nation and her Leaders. Incompetent electricity company and an imposed council Chief."
To be factual, we are still operating on a 3024mw..The action of Ikeja Electric is becoming unbearable, that was how they gave us total black out in Fadeyi area for 4 months ( March-July) because Military Hospital that we share the same feeder with(according to ikeja electric) is owing #5 million. What a reason !
I will always advise prospective alternative energy clients to start from somewhere . we all started from a point and gradually you smile at your investment.. I don't see inverters , solar panels , charge controllers as a major issue but BATTERIES . In most seminars , consultancy sessions I have experienced , the questions pertaining energy storage - batteries are the most tasking .. Flooded , AGM, GEL etc and principles of how to make your battery bank last longer . I always advice clients that its all about basic C10/20 principles - proper load audit , observing 30-50% DOD rules , recommended SOC / PSOC rules et al & you will always smile at how many years your batteries has served you on the long run .. Always feel free to dial up my number visible in my profile- signature as it's 24h/7days available for prospective clients and detailed enquiries ... Cheers !
That explains why our area has not seen the grid in weeks. It came back briefly yesterday. Thankfully the weather has been good so our batteries are getting fully charged every day.
