chris81964,
well done. i see you guys are really taking the nation by storm.

one thing though, i noticed from the picture you posted seems your client used
non-uniform brand batteries for his battery bank. how do you account for the differences
in amp-hours? and what build quality and materials and internal battery resistance?
Thank you GeorgeD1. He has 8 Deka 220 AH batteries. They are the same batteries across the board.

We are officially a distributor and installer of Outback Power Inverters, Controller and Accessories. Inventory will be available in a few weeks.

Please enjoy the job we did last week in Port Harcourt. The customer has three phase into the house to power his Central AC systems and a single phase to power pumps, hot water heaters etc. The house has no tank, water is produced on demand by a pump. He need to have power 24/7.
He had spent two million Naira on Deka batteries and we did not think he should feed his Sukham these batteries for them to get destroyed.

So the first phase was to handle all the loads that were on a single phase using a Victron Quattro. A peak of 4000 watts. Use the gen as back up for when PHCN was absent or batteries fell below a programmed threshold.

The result is a happy customer.
Phase 2 is solar
Phase 3 is three phase

Enjoy the finished job

Very true about axpert inverters. Anyone using them as sole source for charging FLA is asking for trouble. They can't do more than 28.8v charge making them ideal for AGM batteries .. they can't even equalise your FLA. For me I use sukam and tracer. Sukam does bulk charge when power is available Tracer MPPT complete the absorption state of charge at 29.2v and equalisation once a month at 32v
Please change your misconception about the Axpert. The newer models have 31V as the max and for the US battery inverter it is more than adequate. I have programmed absorbption to maximum time on the Axpert to allow me to compensate

Installed 8 units of J185 Trojans in August 2014, yesterday had to retire 4 of them. 3 were reading below 10v on on load. Despite regular maintenance and equalisation.
How is it on the other side?.
This flooded whaala Don dey pass my power Oo.
You retired them as you threw them away? Did you set an aggressive low battery cut off. If you are discharging them to zero all the time no amount of maintenance or equalization will bring them back. I have mine set to cut off at 24V/48V It starts warning me at 24.5/ 49. That is why I am picky in the inverters I install for customers. A lot of the Chinese inverters have a cutoff that is below 0%.

Iron Edison batteries are not Lithium batteries. They both represent very different technologies with corresponding advantages and disadvantages.

GeorgeD1 is right about Lithium batteries inability to tolerate overcharging. They are irreversibly damaged by overcharging.

Tivta is also right about Iron Edison batteries high tolerance for abuse. They are very rugged, can be overcharged, undercharged and deep discharged to 0% SOC.
The jury is still out on the 100 % discharge on the iron nickel / Edison battery. I have read so much material and watched many YouTube videos. I know of a guy selling them here. The cost of getting them to Nigeria is my beef. The initial charge is also a concern for people like me who don't have a generator in Nigeria. My array is currently two kw and can't generate the over 100 amps that is recommended.

Good day house I need ur help on my batteries I recently noticed electrolyte discharge( fluid and carbon-like substance) from one of my batteries and subsequently a drop in efficiency. Please how do I get a 2v 1000A shoto battery and his much cos I'm optimistic that changing that battery will bring back the efficiency. Thanks in anticipation
If you are getting a gel or AGM battery to off gas (discharge electrolyte), you are overcharging them. That is the quickest way to destroy them. Disconnect them and check each string. Look for the damaged unit, it will have the lowest voltage and then replace it. Pray that the others are not dry. Clean the corrosion of the terminals as well. That affects efficiency.

My Oga,
Thanks for the feedback.
Under the advisement of Chris81964 and yourself, i will put this in a plan and effect this overtime considering the alarming surge in prices of things. Most of the items were bought almost two years ago and are now over three times what i got them for, whilst the dollar value still remains about same.

On a CC for the windmill, i will also consider this and implement.

I did this with safety and maximum yield in mind and any advice to achieve that is highly appreciated. Thank you

Many thanks for guidance from everyone. Together each achieves more (TEAM)

A happy new year in advance to the whole house and may 2017 bring us more pleasure than pain. God's speed always
The Schneider Electric (Xantrex) PWM controllers have been used as wind turbine controllers and you can run a dump load through them. They cost less than 70k. Food for thought.
I am glad someone else agrees with me on the controller suggestion. Good luck and a happy 2017 to you.

It took me some time to acquire all the items to upgrade to SOLAR, all because of long throat i have.

I am in awe. What wind turbine controller do you use? I would suggest two charge controllers if you have your panels on different parts of the roof.

Thanks so much for the clarification. I really appreciate it.

I will be carrying out my own personal installation next month. I have 12 number of 2v batteries. I think having an equaliser would be good to ensure the middle batteries also get charged. Do you know if I can get an equaliser that can equalise 12 number 2volt batteries as I have never seen one before.

Thanks
You are welcome. I have no experience with the item you mention. I do an equalization charge once a month to balance my batteries. My controller is programmed to do it every month.

I'm just wondering if having an additional external CC on a hybrid inverter will not duplicate the charge controlling capacity of the overall system. Isn't it like having 2 CC connected in series?

Thanks and I really appreciate the information.
We are not using the internal controller. We have an installation that uses both and it works fine. They actually work independent of one another. They feed maximum current till they get to absorbtion and then the maintain the voltage based on the setting we program. The hybrids (older versions) are limited to 30 volts and they shut down once the see a voltage in excess of 30. Our batteries equalize at close to 32 V. The external controller does that better for us than the internal one. (We install flooded batteries)
My pleasure

Chris81964,

You posted this pic as a result of my earlier question about hybrid inverters.

I need some clarification please.

Why is there an external CC in the in the picture since the inverter is hybrid and has an inbuilt CC.

Why are the batteries in crates instead of placing then in open racks for proper air and cooling.

Thanks as I await your response.
An external charge controller gives me more flexibility with strings, array sizes and voltage.
Battery box is vented and I can direct the gasses where I want them. My batteries produce gas. Wood resists corrosion better and does a better job of managing temperature. I have a pretty consistent temperature in my battery box.
Enclosed battery boxes are required to meet code in some countries.

I hope I answered your questions.

Go back and read both links you posted. Its not anybody's fault you failed your exams in school. Did you even read in the link you posted where Henry Ford became an Engineer and even rose to become chief Engineering? Oh I forgot. You are quite disabled in the aspect of reading and comprehension.

Even in the hospitals there are people who carry out medical functions and are good at what they do like nurses, but that does not mean they are Doctors. I'm sure your empty scull will find that too difficult to understand.
