Education › Re: Men Accused Of Writing Exams For Girlfriends-Daily Trust by Chrisbenogor(m): 8:48pm On Oct 25, 2015 |
makzeze: Cheating in exams is common in both secondary schools and tertiary institutions in the country and thousands of students caught are either dismissed or made to repeat the classes. Academic dishonesty, including cheating, widely practiced by students pose a serious problem across schools and campuses while educationists have overlooked the strategies adopted by students in cheating.
Desperate parents have paid huge sums of monies to talented persons to take exams on behalf of their wards and several parents and teachers have connived with examination officers to steal answers to both in-class and external tests. There were instances in which men were caught writing exams for their girlfriends.
One student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi (ATBU) said examination malpractice had assumed a frightening dimension in schools. She said students smuggle cheat papers and textbooks into examination centers and copy directly from them. “During our first semester examination early this year, one 500 level female student of the business management department was caught cheating. She wrote answers in her skirt and was found copying directly from there. She was arrested and expelled.” She said students have written exams for their friends and have gotten away with it; the few ones arrested have been punished. They have adopted many methods to cheat in exams without security personnel detecting them.
There were other students who also look at someone else’s exams sheets and copy from them but they are hardly identified if there is overcrowding at examination centers, she added. Another student of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, said a man was caught writing the second semester examination for his girlfriend in 2014. He said, “The man was arrested cheating during mass communication exams and ironically, he was not even a student of this university. He was taken to a police station and prosecuted. As for the girl in question, I haven’t set my eyes on her again.” He said students found cheating in exams are made to face disciplinary committees and those found guilty are either expelled or made to repeat a session, depending on the offense, adding that the management does not turn a deaf ear to cases of exams malpractice no matter the status of those involved.
Not only do students cheat in exams but they also steal the dissertations of previous students, an act that stifles creativity and defeats the purpose of education. Students engaged in plagiarism or copying the work of others face severe punishment if found. The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, said the university had adopted far reaching measures to tackle unforeseen challenges including exams cheating. He said computer software was being used to detect any case of plagiarism.
Despite examination malpractice Act 33 of 1999 that stipulates punishment ranging from fine of N50, 000.00 to N 100, 000.00 and imprisonment for a term of 3-4 years with or without option of fine, this trend has become an epidemic in the educational system. It is not limited to private or governments schools. It is everywhere. Schools proprietors allegedly induce invigilators while parents bribe teachers to allocate marks to their children.
Lecturers allegedly ask for gratification from students either in kind or in cash while men have written exams for their girlfriends, one exam official said. The official, who pleaded for anonymity, said people are hired to write school certificate exams on behalf of ‘lazy students.’ In her paper titled Checking Examination Malpractice in Nigerian Schools, Dr. A.O. Oredein, Senior lecturer, Institute of Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, said the reasons for examination malpractice “included the low moral standard in schools, candidates fear of failure, lack of confidence in themselves, inadequate preparation, laziness and ‘419’ syndrome that have eaten deep into the fabrics of the society.” Some university lecturers are of the opinion that inadequate teaching and learning facilities, poor conditions of service of teachers fear of failure by students and admission of unqualified candidates into universities are responsible for examination malpractices.
In his paper presented at the stakeholders’ forum on rising integrity in the conduct of examinations in the Nigerian educational system recently, Dr Malami Umar Tambuwal from faculty of Education and Extension Services, Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, stated that the desire of some parents to help their children is one of the reasons for examination malpractice in the educational system.
He said some parents would blindly want their children to get into ‘lucrative courses’ like medicine, accountancy, law etc. as such would collide with any person who can at all cost get their children the required credits. Parents especially of wards in private and specialized schools, threaten proprietors of withdrawal of children or closure of schools if their children do not make excellent results, he stated.
According to him, other reasons include high stakes of examinations, teacher and school status, personality disposition, inadequacies of the examinations, inadequate school facilities and teachers, location of examination centers, low salary level, respect for certificate, and threat and intimidation of parents. But Mr. Danladi Idris, an educationist, said that incapacity of some lectures and teachers is one of the major causes of examination malpractice. He said lecturers hardly finish most of their course outline for an academic semester before giving examinations to the students, in some cases, the “lecturers even go to the extent of giving examinations to the students even in the areas that they did not teach the students for that academic year.” According to Dr Oredein, the only solution to examination malpractice is that all staff of examination bodies should be well paid. He said, “Whatever may be the case, examination malpractice has eroded our educational system. It has become an epidemic. Therefore, there is need for all stakeholders to come together and take serious measures to address the situation.”

Luckygurl: Hehehehe!! Your partner is really a brother in the Lord as in all this jim jim brothers
He has to loosen up a bit, for crying out loud you've got marriage plans.
What are his reasons for acting this way? Are they religion based? Even if they are, engaging in intimate talks and PDA's ain't a big deal, I mean this is someone you'd spend the rest of your life with and it's only proper you get past the normal brother-sister relationship. Not like you're asking him to go down all the way, nah!! Just a little show of affection, hugs, pecks, kisses, cuddles does it..
Sister mi! Maybe you gat to find a way to break down those walls of his. Insist on getting a warm hug from him after a meet up, blow a kiss through the phone after a call session, he should reciprocate too. Just find a way to work things around.... Once you achieve this, push no further rather help take things to it's permanent site Guide him well cos his likes are rare sort of, you only have to work around him a little. Hope you get your desired results.
Topics like this give me hope. It shows that we still have responsible men out there who ain't in for just sexx and it's likes. I'd choose a man who's got such mindset over another who's ready to try out different sex positions with you whether or not he's got plans of taking you to the altar. Responsible what, the guy will be there chopping nkechi booty as they say it these days, una go say he is responsible. |

omenka: Good morning.
I'm not a regular on this board- in fact this is my first time ever of visiting and I see you guys are doing quite a great job here. Kudos.
For some of us not so ardent in the "ways of Christ", there are certain questions that have been tugging at our minds for years and I hope bringing it here, someone knowledgeable could help put things into clearer perspective.
Now, I've been having some difficulty believing the Christian narative of how man came to being. I don't believe a hindered percent in the Big Bang or Darwinism as well, but if you ask me, so far, both seem to offer even better explanation as to the question of life and how it has come to evolve.
According to our religion, the first men were Adam and Eve and every other man is a product of their procreation. My questions then are:
1. What race was Adam and Eve??
2. It is said that after Cain killed Abel, he saw banished from Eden and went to live in some distant place (make una no mind me, I no sabi bible well well..) where he married and bore lots of children- question is, where did those people come from? Were they his brothers and sisters??
3. How did we end up with the different races we have today- where did Whites, Blacks, Asians, indians, Arabs, Hispanics, and Persians with all their genotypical/physiological differences come from??
4. If we were to accept the variations in "3" as products of genetic mutation, could we then extend to argument to explain the origin of man as a product of genetic mutation/evolution??
I wish the pastors and evangelical scientists in the house could shed some light on this.
Thanks.

The job market is frustrating to say the least. Na una enjoy pass, getting a job wasn't so difficult as it is now back then Hahahahaha I am not that old na, getting a job was easy in the 70's and 80's not for those of us who started working post 2010, it was difficult I tell you. For the better part I think I was lucky, of all the top people in my class there's not a lot of us who got the jobs they were looking for. I think there needs to be a shift in our education system though, we all go through it wanting to get a job in the limited job spaces. We are never really prepared for owning and running an SME. It is complicated sha, the pressures from society and what not. It takes a special level of understanding to realize that we can create a lot more just by looking for made in Nigeria solutions. But alas those who lead us cannot see past their "wordrope" allowance. Some want to dash 500k from money that can be used to set up industries that would give Nigeria comparative advantage, create sustainable jobs and add value to societies. Shit, even scrap that and use the money to build a trust for prospective private investors in the form of insurance for their investments. What we lack I tell you is people who can come up with ingenious ideas on how to get this country out of this mess. Even if we have nothing , nada resources -----almost 200 million people! Politics › Re: Ben Bruce Getting Whopped On Twitter For Lying by Chrisbenogor(m): 5:43pm On Jun 21, 2015 |
wirinet: You must be part of his PR team. What you wrote below are half truths and personal opinions. Some of us also knows Bruce well and have been following his career since 1978.
Ben Bruce was not born into wealth. Someone whose father retired as a senior manager of a supermarket chain (UAC did not open Mr Biggs until the 80s) cannot be said to be born with a silver spoon. They were middle class family.
Ben Bruce did indeed wrecked NTA. Where are the channels created during Ben Bruce's tenure. What was the quality of programs during Ben Bruce's tenure? He came up with the concept of establishing an NTA station in every state in Nigeria, but he only used it as an opportunity to defraud NTA. He (though his cronies) was in charge of awarding the contract for the building of the offices in each state capital. They give contractors the contract at ridiculously low prices but budget exhorbitant prices. In 2001, i was offered the contract to build the Uyo office at about N12million when the original contract sum was supposed to be about N35million. I turned down the contract. Now imagine replicating that in over 30 states in Nigeria.
Ben Bruce was also in charge of supplying the transmitters. He brought in outdated transmitters at exhorbitant prices. Up till today, the few NTA that worked cannot transmit successfully for a whole day without going off air. Go to the Warri station, they go off and on randomly. They go off air for days.
The logo debacle is the most stupid thing he did. What was wrong with the old logo? How many media outfit in the world change their logo. The Times of UK that is over 200 years still use the same logo. BBC still uses the same logo, CNN still uses the same logo, so whats the noise about logo. Then he contracted his brother to design the logo (of course at exhorbitant price), the logo was useless, NTA written in blue small letters with a red ball circling around it. It looked childish. The NTA staff hated the logo, the public did not like the logo. So it is absurd to list the logo as an achievement by Ben Bruce.
Ben Bruce's crowning glory was the 2004 All African Games. Ben Bruce was in charge of all tranmission equipments to be acquired by NTA including the OB vans. He was alleged to have bought in outdated and non functional OB vans, so much so that NTA had to rely on private media outfits for its live transmissions. This was the camel that broke OBJ's back, OBJ has had enough. He called him and sacked him immediately just before the start of the All African Games. It was immediately after the sacking that Ben Bruce brought in modern transmitters and set up silverbird television. When some of us say he is blowing hot air them go say na lie. |

Ok before I run away, lemme say something.
If this thread degenerates to some high level stuff, people might get scared away. I was amazed recently in a book I am reading how interesting it is when basic science is explained in a very interesting way. So my challenge is pick something and explain it as simply as you can and in your own words.
Illustrations - analogies - something that passes the point.
Then one can build from this to explaining more complex things.
