For the record I HATE the offshore, theres only so much money a person needs. At some point it becomes diminishing returns viz a viz quality of life. But then....

And Everybody knows the Highest Position that a Nigerian can occupy in these organizations so no point dreaming. Except you plan to make backhand money via contracts, there is really no motivation for going to the office.

top10nigeria: 32million means that plus tax I am doing about 40. Also, my low 32 has to do with age and not yrs. Age is not on my side. I am 32. I have a colleague on my level who is 46 and on my same level earning 47mil. Also wages grow in "triangles". As you grow, your salary growth stalls. It has nothing to do with Technician or Engineering. Eg. my overall boss who is like the Installation manager earns about 70Mil and he has not had a salary increment for 3yrs because he has maxed out and only gets 5% annual productivity bonus and asset optimization bonus which is undefined depending on how much cost he saves. He is 30yrs in service, now Senior management and looking to retire in 2yrs. So salary is defined by a combination of all kinds of things that HR experts put together. Your first 10yrs, your salary will grow faster but then remember that the company wants to make sure they control how much pension they will have to pay you after retirement, especially considering that Nigeria staff get automatic 11% increase every year due to Nigeria inflation, plus the company is paying a percentage of your salary into your RSA. So there is a conscious effort to manage how much pension you will be due as at the time of retirement which makes also affects your salary growth.

Everything makes sense except this
32 - 15 = 17 ( so at least after NYSC)
17- 1 = 16 ( Finished Uni at 16 with 1st Class in Electronics Engineering)
16 - 5 = 11 ( 5 years to study Electronics Engineering )
11 - 6 = 5 ( got into secondary school at 5)
5 -6 = -1

I work offshore and my Wife works offshore(Sub-sea Engineer). I work 2weeks tour while she works 4weeks tour.
The surest way of working offshore is to graduate first Class Engineering/Geo Sciences. My Wife had a first Class Chemical Engineering and Mine is Electronics. Production Oil companies won’t even invite you for Aptitude test if you do not have a 2-1 that is 4.0 and above. And now we have a lot of Nigerians with masters from UK, so its becoming harder for them to employ people with first degree. Now I am assuming you don’t have connections and your Parents are as broke as mine were when they were sending me to school. So that is one path to working offshore and I will call these people employed directly by the Oil companies as Level 1.
Another path is to be a Technical Non-Pro, eg. Cook, Secretary, medical, laundry, welder, painter, deck hands, etc… To make it easier, I will label this Level 2. Most of these people are on contract so they don’t get same level of compensation.
Eg. The average cook/laundry staff earns 840,000/yr
Average Technical Support eg. Pipe fitter/secretary/Welder etc will earn 4-8million a year
But the level 1 guys earn more.
Eg. Personally I earned a total remuneration of[b] 32million last year[/b] and my wife Earned 23million last year. (I work for the majors while my Wife works for a Drilling Company – the majors(Exxonmobil / Total/ Shell / Chevron / Agip) always pay more than the drilling (Schlumberger / Transocean / Halliburton)
So the first thing I want those who want to work offshore to do is decide what type of job they want to do offshore. Do you want to be Level 1 or Level 2?
Personally, I have 15yrs of experience and I work in a production company so I am high paying. I don’t think there is anybody within my team including the 2year olds who earns a TR of less than 20million.
So I will encourage you guys to go back to your books and read them so hard.
For me the best part of working offshore is the 2weeks off. I will not transfer to the office for a 200% increase in wages and maybe its because I started working offshore when I was 18. Plus I work on measurement and control systems, so I don’t do any physical work like my folks in mechanical who have to work on pumps, so I am on the best job in the world right now. Also, the Time off allows me to spend time on my other endeavors and For me that is the best part of working offshore. Note: My Wife hates it, but because I am away half of the time, she is managing the job until she can go back to school for her masters.
I hope this adds a different perspective to the conversation.

I'm not saying hard work wont pay o, i just know it doesnt pay as much as it used to. In 2014 times have changed, this is a new millennium and things are different and a new breed of humans exist. My mentality is doing me good already and i love it and i have absolutely no problems.

There are ppl who give their all and get nothing in return and there are ppl who lay back, do nothing and get everything hard workers grind for and i am proud to be the latter. I grew up wanting to be hard working and blah blah blah. but after seeing what happened to my mom, after seeing how looked down on women are in Nigerian society I had to grow up, after seeing how men marry a pretty girl and keep her poor and they multiply like pigs, she loses her figure cos they're too poor for an in-house gym and the same man she gave her life to will still hurt her and cheat on her and emotionally abuse her and she has to put up with it cos she's a woman, like it's a disease. Do u know where good girls end up? in one man's kitchen, she will do the laundry and go to work then go to school run, then come back and cook and all that for a man who thinks she's beneath him and under appreciated, what kind of life is that? And at just 32, they look wrinkly cos of sun damage and seem 2wice their age. Some girls are stupid enough to sign up for that i'm not. So i found myself someone that suits me. My mentality is doing me good already and i wont have it any other way

Chai nna ehn you get power o, no one should judge your morality for you. If you have decided to make it life this way frankly it's nobody's business.
However you are still young, down the road you will find that nature races against you. Soon the guys would move on to the younger girls. You should also realize that there us a huge difference from cashing in on your sexuality ( for lack of a better word) and living on money that a man gives to you.
Always remember that money does not last forever, and also remember that yes your million dollar friend could be in a rich man's house now it still does not mean that her account will continue to bulge. Marriages break down and shi*t can hit the fan faster than you can think.


My point is this business of getting money from men ends faster than you can think. You also need to sit and ask what you really want out of life. When you are 40 , 50, and 60 what would you want out of life.

Listening
We hear it all the time that communication is an important aspect of marriage. I think it is also an important aspect when trying to be a good friend to your fellow married couples. Growing up there was a local proverb which said 'Dem no dey put mouth for husband and wife matter because na you dem go take settle the quarrel'.
Sometimes or most times when your spouse or your friend or a family relative talks about an issue that burns inside them, it is important to first and foremost - LISTEN. Sometimes people just want to vent,they just want to hear it would be fine. While we agree that not all circumstances would just be fine, I think it is important for one to feel through the process rather than just shooting off one million suggestions at the other person.

Receiving what they have to say is one of the very first steps, it is important to avoid distracting or interrupting unnecessarily. It is kind of annoying to hear a rehearsed cliche response even before you finish talking. It is also important that you understand the real message the person is trying to pass across, ask questions at this point, rephrase the persons words and try to get to the root of the real concern. When you start to get a clearer picture of what is going on you should slowly start to sieve. What is fact, which parts were exaggerated, what is just opinion, do you sense prejudice, which parts do you sense are unbiased, did you hear words like - in fairness to him/her for example.

When you feel like you like you have a handle on what the speakers message is, then you can respond. Sometimes its just important to keep quiet, if you have to respond I think it is important to address the speakers important issues with an awareness of the context surrounding their message. I like to avoid the 'box' by reminding myself first and foremost that all relationships are unique, theres usually not a one solution fits all. What would make me sleep well at night, might not be the solution for you. We should strive to speak our experiences in a language that the person would respond best to. This differs from one individual to another.

In real life this process happens in a very short time, it can be a challenge sometimes to keep a level head and hit the issues where it is important especially when the message is something that stokes emotional flames inside you. However it can be what stops you from just blurting out - your husband is a useless man, your wife is just a mean person, your MIL is wicked and does not want the best for you. Tomorrow your friend and her husband have made up but you cannot help but shake the feeling that 'dem don use your head settle the quarrel'.

Africaine: Thanks for the interest, I shouldn't have gone one and on...didn't even realise I felt this strong until I strayed typing. We have succeeded in paying his loans to d bank and other people he collected the money from.
He just needs to believe in himself again, he isn't a bad guy, he doesn't talk down to me and lives his kids to pieces, so it's not all gloom. I hope and pray that God fine tunes everything concerning him.

Alishachris: God told the man what to write. God spoke through the man. The same way Christ entered a man's body so he can die for sins of men. For men to be able to understand God, God has to speak to them in ways and mediums they can understand. peace.

How did you come to the conclusion that it was God speaking to them? Many people claimed God spoke to them, wrote their own books which were deemed heretical by some men. So can you educate us what mechanisms were used to ascertain those that God spoke through man and those that were not?

Alishachris: the bible is not man-made. The bible is a recording of God's words and promises to his people. It came from above the same way rain came from above.

Did God record down the books him self and send it as rain. Or did man write it?

Alishachris: When we try to put what is to what is not, that is what you would get. Christianity has never being about any religion. if it were, Jesus would have told us so, that He came to setup a religion. But that is far from the truth. Jesus never came to setup any religion. And the apostles never did setup a religion. What we have today is man made religion and like everything man made, it's not without its flaws and shortcomings.

Question then:

Is the Bible Man Made?
Does it have its flaws and shortcomings?

Alishachris: No, you are the one getting it wrong bro. The bible was not written in one day and by one man. The bible is a compilation of God's Word to His people. These are revelations given to some people that the spirit inspired to put down on scrolls. Compilation of those old scrolls is what we know as the bible today.

I quite agree with you that it is a compilation. I am saying that the divisions in what we know as Christianity today run deep. For instance the Arian controversy regarding the relationship between Jesus and the father goes as far back as 325 AD. This even till this day rages for instance in the way the Jehovas witnesses see Jesus vs the majority of other christians. But where are the Arian texts today? They were consigned to flames and anyone in possession of them was executed.

Was Arius and the other people deemed heretical not inspired by the spirit? Is it not particularly flawed for Man to then decide what was of the spirit and what was not?

At the end of the day you would agree with me that it is impossible to get all Christendom, to agree in total what the various messages in the bible is trying to say. The many contradictions we find in commands and in time were maybe because this book was not really supposed to be together in the first place.

Alishachris: When is back then? The back then that is relevant is during Jesus and the apostles times, when the bible was written. For all i can remember Neither Jesus nor the apostles instigated a religion. it was people that saw as the apostles were living their life that called them 'christians' meaning that they were living their lives as Jesus the Christ did.
