Men if that happens then we would officially have our second golden generation charlesemeka85: And also soon I predict we will have same number of quality and options in the midfield with the emergence of alhassan(Antwerp), frank the tank(bretford), Raphael onyedika( mityjlland), ugochukwu( Rennes) and possibly Tino anjorin(locomotive Moscow) added to aribo(rangers),iwobi(Everton), etebo(watford) and ndidi that are already important members of the team
My biggest worry is our center back position |

The competition for spaces within the striker position of the SE is becoming much fiercer. Moffi that was in the team barely a few call ups ago looks to have been displaced by Awoniyi.
For it looks like it will be Osimhen, Onuachu and Awoniyi in that order for the SE in the nearest future.
Sadiq has to try and move to a higher level to get a look in. Moffi, Dessers, Simy, Nwaekeme will have to impress a lot to displace the aforementioned trio. |

Mikel used his personal money. Amunike did not have anyone to use their personal money. |

I yet to see one that the teams kits will be forgotten in a hotel to the extent the game was almost walked over. I'm yet to see one where the whole teams passports were left at hotel leading to walkover and elimination. TheGoodJoe: I am yet to see which one is going to a World Cup without kits. |

Oliseh's team had no money to even buy food, Bonfere's 1996 olympic team had to squat at motels no proper transportation. Godwin Izilien former under 17 coach still being owed money. Siasia hotel threatened to throw team out Mikel had to use personal money to bailout team Westerhof team kits were abandoned in hotel before match against burkina faso game was almost walked over. So all this tales of woe you are listing for Amuneke other coaches have gone through if not worse so that alone shouldn't be used to excuse him. TheGoodJoe:
Bonfere's team had kits. Amunike's team had to go to a U17 World cup wearing slippers and no coats to stay warm.
Please, I disagree with it being normal. That was beyond incompetency but plain sabotage. They wanted them to fail. |

Siasia his dealings aside is the only coach I would say after westerhof and bonfere played the kind of exciting attacking football associated with SE. His teams weren't always perfect but he knew how to set up to attack the opposition. jihday: If there’s any local coach that deserves any form of praise it is Samson Siasia, he has done soooo much for our football. He showed us 2005 wasn’t a fluke by doing it again in 2008 and 2016. Amunike couldn’t even qualify us for the African U-20 tourney by losing to Sudan in Nigeria, how is that different from Rohr loosing to car? |

hmm oga o some things been happen during that period sha. To be clear Keshi is not the only coach involved in such behind the scenes dealings but him own dey too obvious. Siasia and Oliseh have made very questionable call ups. Rohr too calling Otabor and that Feriense for the cameroon friendly show say him way no too pure. charlesemeka85: Hungarian born Kenneth otigba nko who was a regular for hereveen then in the eirdiviesie nko? That one even use mouth Dey beg for invite but keshi no even invite am atleast to watch him closely in training to see if he will add anything to his team
Instead he preferred ekwueke and odunlami
Otigba was a starter at heereveen and even voiced his intentions to play for Nigeria then never got a chance but nwofor who was a regular in the same clubs team B made it to the World Cup |

Shehu maybe but Musa I disagree. Apart from his decent performances remember Ahmed after Enyeama and Mikel was one of the senior players in the team. If there was a grand conspiracy to make Musa captain how come he was promptly stripped of it after the end of Oliseh's reign? Or Ekong that is vice-captain now is it conspiracy too? Siasia was still generally good for the SE then. Iheanacho before he was dropped from the 2019 AFCON team had been poor for quite a while. Remember Rohr took him to the world cup in russia even though his club form was poor so to be fair to gernot he was patient with Kelechi during that period Kog45: Pls compare Siasia form with Richard Owubokiri and Mike Obiku forms should tell you that Westerhof will never dropped Iheanacho for Onuachu. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by chrisooblog: 12:47pm On Oct 15, 2021 |
See another one. It's not that we are bad mouthing Keshi's coaching achievements with the SE but the truth of how players were selected during his era has to be told. jihday: Ahead of a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, erstwhile Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi named a squad featuring a few new faces. While most observers were pleased and eager to catch a glimpse of the likes of Kingsley Madu, William Troost-Ekong and Anderson Esiti (quite the mixed bag of debutants, considering what has come after), there was consternation over the inclusion of little-known 19-year-old forward Okechukwu Gabriel.
Now, the apoplexy was entirely justifiable, and on its heels suspicion quickly followed. Water FC is an academy run by CEO Nureni Makanjuola, a FIFA and NFF-licensed football intermediary who doubled as the agent of former international Michael Babatunde. It will be recalled that Babatunde, who is now unattached, was a surprise inclusion in the Super Eagles squad to the 2014 World Cup and emerged as a key player, starting two of Nigeria’s four matches in Brazil. |

Egbon Westerhof also used to drop squad players when needs demanded. Owobokiri that was killing it in Portugal and even scored against South Africa during the 1994 WC qualifier was barely called again but Efan Ekoku that didn't do anything in the SE he took straight to WC. Ugbade that was dropped for Emenalo nko? Clemens too dropped a few notable players during his time but I give it to him he knew how to strike a balance and motivate his players. Keshi in a bid to mold his own team I think picked players based mostly on how loyal they were to him instead of first using ability/talent as a bench mark. Every good coach has an ego but you shouldn't let it blind you from working with the best talents just because they won't bow to you. Kog45: Bro this is more reason I respect Westerhof...Clemens will never dropped Iheanacho for Onuachu at that period.
My man Westerhof let me realized that there are national team player and he know how to psych them up even if they are not playing regularly for their clubs. |

Iheanacho's form during that period was seriously poor so it wasn't an obviously bad decision to drop him for Onuachu who was decent att the time Kog45: During Keshi period his Club form too dropped after afcon though I would have taken him over Uchebo but remember Rohr dropped Iheanacho and took Onuachu to Afcon which till today was a poor decision to me. |

Ideye wasn't really one of the main men in the national team then. Plus his club form wasn't exactly earth shattering during that period. Ighalo was coming up during that time so Ideye making way wasn't really controversial if you ask me. Kog45: Andrew but you are not surprised how the same Brown Ideye was dropped from eagles after good match against Zambia. |

That Pep rotation policy is a myth jare. When Sterling is in form how often does he get rotated? or KDB, Dias or Gundugan for that matter? If you are delivering for Pep you become undroppable. Sane has sha gone to the ''easier'' German Bundesliga where he should be killing it. Abi na Guardiola rotation policy dey affect am for Munich too? andrewbaba44: Guardiola use to rotate his team no matter who you are
Gnabry will be rotated at mancity and won’t play all games ,mancity have more wingers than Bayern and there is no way mahrez won’t get into Bayern line up and you know this
Individual is the koko here and mahrez beats gnabry to that
Na guardiola rotation policy I blame and not you guys ,normal this argument no suppose come up

Them Tony Harris people. Stories about how Gabriel Reuben made the 2014 WC squad are still fresh in my memory. charlesemeka85: my oga I no need to mention names because it was almost an open practice then
It’s starts with the then coach picking up fight with some important members of the team In order to make them look bad before the public so to make space for carpenters who hv dropped egunje or accept to sign with the his management team
This was a common practice during keshi’s time as the head coach of the team. He was also accused of such during his stint with Mali and Togo. You can go online and check out what made him fall out with adebayo |

Gnabry is a starter for a Bayern side that has more pedigree and standing in football than Man City. Funny enough the Sane you are mentioning Serge dey bench am steady for Munich. I'm just saying if we use player output and remove individual bias there isn't too much to separate Riyad from Gnabry. andrewbaba44: Even ferran torres has better stats for Spain than many top players ,I guess that means he is better than many top players like Dybala with poor stats for Argentina ?
Mahrez is better than gnabry abeg ,if mahrez Na Chelsea player you won’t make this statement
You think gnabry will have 100 percent game time at city ? Same city sane ran away from
You think It’s easy winning pfa players players of the year and pfa fans player of the year while playing for Leicester city ?
You think it’s easy winning mancity player of the months at 4 different months on a start studded team ?
How many top teams has gnabry scored against while playing for Germany if I may ask ,same gnabry was no where to be found during the euros |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by chrisooblog: 10:44am On Oct 15, 2021 |
The bold is debatable if we look at goals, assists and trophies won. Gnabry in less games has scored more times for Bayern than Mahrez has for City yet Riyad is supposed to be a marquee player for City. National team football Gnabry already has 20 in 31 appearances. Mahrez has scored more times for Algeria but with way more games. If you say style of play I would put effectiveness over flair and using that criteria one can logically argue Serge edges Riyad slightly. andrewbaba44: It’s not hard to spot a kid
Is this how they judge football if I may ask ?
Should I remind you that gnabry didn’t make arsenal and westbrom team since you want to use the narrative of who first hit the limelight (audio limelight )
Gnabry is a good player no doubt but mahrez is better |

Thanks egbon. Yes I remember that Angola match was a kid watching it. Kog45: Clemens Westerhof first match on the bench for Nigeria was against Cameroon and it was our last match for 1990 WC qualifications.
Paul wonder boy Hamilton was the coach handling the team and he was in charge against Angola in Lagos were we lost Sam Okwaraji.I remember Stephen Keshi scored the only goal of that match that also paraded David Ngodigha who was in goal with Austin Eguavoen,Eboigbe,Uche Okafor,Osaro Obabaifo,Samson Siasia,Etim Esin,Ademola Adeshina,Sam Okwaraji,Humphery Edobor with Dahiru Sadi as a sub.
It was a very tense match.
Sam Okwaraji lost his life on the field of play. |

When exactly was Westerhof employed because according to the interviewer in the Clemens interview that wayodude posted he started with the world cup qualifier against Angola. Kog45: Wa gbayi...maroc team should have won us Algiers 90 but failure to qualify for Italian 90 WC distracted the team cos Westerhoff was employed at the last match of our qualifications against Cameroon in Yaounde and most players loyal to coach Paul Halmiton were not happy at the development |
