Romance › Re: How Do I Tell My Girl She Is A Terrible Cook? by chronique(m): 6:06pm On Nov 04, 2012
Let me warn you from experience. Don't show ur displeasure abt dis when telling her. Look for a nice subtle way to say it. My Ex once cooked for us & She didnt clean the head of the fish properly. She left the gills nd dirt inside like that. Now,I dnt eat outside cos of stuffs like these. It irritates me when the fish is not properly cleaned & if I taste such a meal,I'd know once & it would also give me allergies... When we were eating nd I discovered this nd reacted somehow to it,the result wasnt nice. I think I asked her if that's how they eat it @ home when we quarelled & she made reference to it several times during quarels... Point is,be nice abt how you put it across or else she'll turn it into a song for you. I once made that mistake.
Romance › How Much Info About Your Partner, Can You Share With Your Family? by chronique(op): 5:40pm On Nov 04, 2012
Marriage or a relationship first n foremost, should be basically about two people. However, families need to get involved too so solidify everything.

In life,no one is perfect. Some dudes/babes got a lotta negatives in their past but still yet, have wonderful personalities. However, some pple are just clean;no skeletons hanging in their closets. Now,if you find someone with a not too good past but with some measure of good traits, and you choose to date such, how much of such info are you going to share with your family?

My ex was 24yrs old,had a lovely personality but had dated about 23 guys before me(in her own words) & to be honest,I didnt like it when I heard about it(after we'd started dating) but chose to make the best out of the situation & wasn't going to break up with her on that ground. For me,I was thinking of making her perfect for me & was ready to make her my wife. I did a lot of cover ups @ home & even told a few lies to my folks so she could look great before them.

Everything I share online here, they do not know... Now,I'm thinking;what if we got married & these info started causing issues, who would I have turned to? Wouldn't my family be disappointed to hear so much later?

For future reference,I'm asking this: "how much info should you allow your folks know about your spouse"? Or,is it ok to hide so much from them?

Sorry for typing so lengthy.

carefreewannabe: chronique

you seem to be a really cool character. don't change because of her.
however, I must tell you that I don't consider you too strict but rather not strict enough. It's good to be patient but in some situations it's better not to be.
I understand you really liked her but you accepted her games for too long, right from the beginning.
I believe you when you say that she wasn't a monster and that she also has a lovely side. However, what she was doing was too much and YES you had every right to be suspicious. All the traits you have mentioned in your initial post are good and desirable. That is not the problem. The problem is you went for the wrong kind of a lady. She just wasn't meant for you. And you were not meant for her. It happens to almost everyone at least once in our lifetime but the important thing is to learn one's lesson, then to let go and to move on. There are beautiful ladies out there with lovely personalities. Keep your eyes open. I believe that you have quite a lot of charisma and that you'll finally pick the right one, the one that REALLY deserves you. I admire your write-up, your honesty, your patience, your understanding and much more. I wish you a lady that is truly worthy of you.
Thanks. I really do appreciate your words. Truth is,I tried as much as possible to use my head while with her & that was always the basis for quarels. She was always saying I was reading meaning into everything... I had to call it quits with her after considering everything(although it was hard cos I really loved her). If I didnt apply my brains,I probably might have ended up marrying her. Thanks for everything though. I appreciate.

She claimed she was dating the guy I took over from due to pressure from him. She claimed she told him he wasnt her type but He insisted so She decided to give it a shot. According to her,She wasn't happy with the relationship. I never wanted to be the bad guy that's why I actually wanted her to close tabs on him before hitting it up with me but it didnt work out that way. To be honest,we had some good moments. She thought she'd end up with me but her issue was that I was too strict. With all I explained, was it wrong of me "if I was actually too strict with her",considering the many loopholes that I mentioned? She had dated his friend before then(I found out late though after doing some investigation).
Romance › Re: Ladies & Gentlemen, pls What Do Ladies In This Era Want In A Man? by chronique(op): 5:02pm On Nov 03, 2012
carefreewannabe: This is not specific enough.
I had a boyfriend who was so jealous that he was telling me not to go to a girlfriend's birthday party because it COULD destroy the relationship.
He didn't even let me play some games online because people could talk to me. He said it could destroy the relationship.
The list goes on. So, if you're too possessive, that will mess up most relationships.
As somebody said, be a lover not a father.
Ok. I dated someone recently. When we started, she was seeing someone else & I told her on several occassions to put an end to it asap so I could be sure of what we were about. But unfortunately, she didnt do this early enough & I started having second thoughts. But I never scolded her or put pressure. I'd just stylishly ask about in between a lovely convo. I tgink it took her about two months or so(if I can remember). It occassionally gave me worries but as soon as she announced that she had broken up with him,I forgot about it. She'd had a long list of exes(no not impressive) but I still loved her. I realised she was having self esteem problems & I kept working on her to make her confident while around me. I wanted to know everything from the past so I'd be able to defend her if someone comes up later with a blackmail. I just wanted to bury the past. But I noticed again she didnt come out plain on fb when referring to her love & there were other guys blowing her kisses & gettin kisses back from her. I overlooked it initially but when I mistakenly checked thru her phone one day & saw text msgs of her ex accusing her of cheating on him,I got worried. I also saw the exchange of msgs between she & the person she was supposedly cheating with. It looked very real. When I asked her,she said she wasnt interested in the man but was just playing along then... Another reason to have doubts. I saw her off to write her master's entrance exam in unilag & she saw one of her school mate from uni. I noticed she was very uncomfortable that day & I got worried. Then one night,we were in bed & her phone rang. She picked it & later said it was her father's lawyer. He just wanted to find out if she makes midnight call. I was pretty upset the next day & out of anger,I wrote her a cheque with the intent of asking her to leave but we later sorted out our issues. We were out on my birthday & someone called her name but she didnt answer. I looked back @ d guy, looked @ her & we kept moving down the stairs. She later said she heard her name. I asked why she didnt answer & she said cos she wasnt expecting to see someone she knows... Dude later walked up to us & told her firmly that she heard her name but refused to answer. Again,I was watching her body movement & she was uncomfortable. She introduced me as a friend not fiancee(and we were already talking abt marriage. She had met my parents. I wasnt doing well financially then so the plan was as soon as I'm good,we go see ur parents). I talked about how I felt when we got home & she claimed I was complaining. After abt 30mins of talking,we kissed n forgot about the issue. Those thoughts kept hurting me throughout the relationship & it was a distant relationship. She had her lovely parts though. She was understanding, supportive & had faith in us. She wasnt a monster. But we had lots of quarels. I told her to work on certain areas like cooking which she doesnt do @ home; Her mum cooks, cleaning the house(which her elder cousin does),washing(which her gateman does),eating excessive ice-cream & chocolates which was making her add serious weight(I didnt want it to lead to any medical ailment)etc. She saw all these as complaining. When we started having serious fights, she started acting like she was seeing someone else(based on their convo on fb). I told her to stop it but she claimed he was just a friend. When I tried getting an ex to help her with a job,she complained abt it & said she wasnt comfortable with our friendship. I had to ease up on that & stopped talking to my ex who was my best friend. In her own case, she couldnt do that. I couldnt stand being cheated on & with her past,& stories I'd heard abt ph gals, plus how she broke up with her ex,I felt same was going to happen to me. So I opted out & within a month of breaking up,She'd entered another relationship with a guy who was asking her out while we were dating. Today, they're married & She's expecting a baby. This is it. Was I in any way right abt the fact that she might have been cheating? Was I wrong in trying to put her straight by asking her to work on her weaknesses?

pendo89: The greatest mistake any man can do is to generalise ladies. We are like finger prints,no duplicates.
But here is what.Ladies love a BALANCED MAN.
Flexible, not rigid, humorous, interesting, dynamic, tough, sober, intelligent, sexy, romantic, disciplined, hardworking, everything in good measure.
Your opening line depicts an authoritarian, headmaster kind of guy.Very boring.Better at being Father than lover.
In a relationship you are both equal partners, you both bring something to the table. If you rule with an iron fist you will be left standing alone.
Ladies love being corrected with some tone of humour and firmness.I don't know how I can put it better but tone down and be flexible.
We have met tough people before (dads, brother, uncles, lecturers, bosses etc)now we need a lover. grin
I'm quite firm when I talk & that I dont deny. But boring? Hell no! You're definitely not talking about me. I can't say I rule with an iron fist. The only thing is I dont like talking about one thing over & over again. It puts me off.

Romance › Ladies & Gentlemen, pls What Do Ladies In This Era Want In A Man? by chronique(op): 1:50pm On Nov 03, 2012
I used to think developing yourself into a totally responsible father figure would be something every woman would jump at. Unfortunately, these days,I keep hearing pple say I'm too strict. I hear ladies dont like this...lol. As a matter of fact,I parted with my fiancee due to this last yr. If you're doing something that I know will hurt us,I'll tell you in plain language without mincing words to stop it. And when I do that,I dont want you to repeat it again or justify why you should keep doing it. If I dont talk about a problem,it's as good as I might be leaving you soon. I say things the way they are and after that,I want to be happy, cuddle with you, smile & have fun. It appears ladies dont like this style. So I'm asking this: If a guy is honest, faithful, romantic, caring, loving, hardworking, great in bed, intelligent, humorous & very strict,is this a no-no for the ladies? Would you leave out all the other great qualities cos the dude is very strict? Ladies, what do you think?
