We must hold ourselves to a higher standard my brother. Either way, I like what I saw yesterday. The SE and SS as a solid voting bloc is a formidable power that can counterweight the political power in the North. This changes the political landscape of Nigeria for future generations.

SS + SE = Powerful voting bloc

Include the Middle Belt, and we have an unstoppable force.

Why this thread Obiagu?

Yes, there was low voter turnout in the SW, but that does not mean we Igbos did it alone for GEJ.

It was a collective effort done by all Southerners and the Middle Belt.
Uche eff the bull dawg, if it were them you would see wonders. Remember last weeks bragging of the NASS? So to let it be known, Obiagu is right. We Igbos are the ones who voted for Goodluck not them cool

well for those igbos who are still deluded , that ika is igbo or that ika will go with  igbo in times of critical decisions should wake up and admit the truth , i have challenged any person to mention one ika king that is a member of ohaneze ndi igbo ? and you all know the answer ,none is a member .
2. please stop deceiving your self , kingship is a very recent event in igbo history ,and the type of kingship operated in ika land is very different from the one operated in igbo communities , can you simply tell me how old the kingship in abiriba or whatever community you claim ? the one most igbos will mention is nri or igbo uku , and it has ended long time ago and it is not even the type or concept of kingship that we have, nri  is a priestly kingship. the only kingship that is near the type of proper monarchy practiced is onitcha and we know why it is because of benin influence.
  3. compare agbor , abavo, owa, umunede, ute-okpu  kingship that has spanned almost 1,000 years . compare it with any igbo kingdom, and how many kingdoms did the whole of igboland have ? many of you dont even know what constitues a kingdom , you equate a town with kingship, and the federal government have really tried for igbos , they have created many kingdoms for you with igwes this and that . you think royalty is gotten by money , any rich man becomes king. a son will be a king and the father will be a chief , that cannever happen  in ika land.
4. for your information i am a bonafide ika person whose family lineage can be traced to  the thirteenth century ,we are not new commers like some people whose family line in ika is only 200 years, i am a descendant of the great owa king , obi igbedigi ,who uses the blood of other kings to wash his leg, my ancestor was a giant amongst men and one of the people that helped develop owa kingdom .i am of the royal blood line of owa king , and a member of idumu-ezomor royal village in owa -oyibu , headquarters of owa kingdom, i am a descendant of prince omigie and osuhon.so  i know my history , thoes who dont know theirs should buzz off.
5.  the vast majority of our people know that they are ika people ,while some tiny few believe they are igbos that is their right, and they are usually ika people from igbodo or ekwuoma ,these are communities that are at the eastern fringe of ika land and near aniocha areas ,so we can understand them they also speak ika language and aniocha language .but you will never see a core ika person like my self or others from agbor, abavo, igbanke , owa, umunede , idumuesah and others claiming that they are igbos.
i am a proud ika son with a proud ancestory ,and i  remain ika.those who dont like it should  buzz off.
6. if you claim ,i am making up the story , why is prince nduka obaigbena an owa prince always telling the world he is an ika person ,why does he not tell the world he is igbo. the interview he granted to newyork times last year ,he described himself as an ika man from a minority tribe in nigeria. am  i  still making it up, why is chief fortune ebie ,the head of ika socio-cultural organisation ,saying he is ika, he is almost 80 years old and he was the first nigerian director of survey after the british or am i making that up?
7. my advice to most igbos is that they should be very careful of making ungarded assumptions that this tribe is igbo ,without asking the people ,because in times of critical moment they will shock and abandon you .
8. let me remind you that ika is a seperate ethnic group and we have in no time in history aligned with igbos, we always take decision and never will any proper ika person want to follow any igbo person, even if nigeria is to split in pieces ,God forbid that ikas will not follow igbos.
Dude we get it you are not Igbo. Can you define who exactly the 'Igbo' are? I find the bolded pretty confusing, that is why i'm asking. One thing that comes to mind at the comment that is bolded is the "Ekumeku War",to say the least; but, this depends on who exactly you are calling the Igbo and why you are calling them such. Your response is really appreciated. And by the way, i'm Ukwuani.

Ali Monguno Condemns Ohanaeze’s Call On Igbo To Vote For Jonathan

Saturday, 16 April 2011 00:00 From Njadvara Musa, Maiduguri News - National

FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Steel and elder statesman, Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno, on Thursday condemned the Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership for urging the Igbo to vote en mass for President Goodluck Jonathan in today’s election, warning that such calls could jeopardise the peace and unity of the country.

Monguno, who spoke to The Guardian at his Maiduguri residence, said that it was rather preposterous for a revered socio-cultural group to declare in a public medium that it has thrown its full weight behind the candidature of a sitting President.

The call according to the elder statesman was however, not only ill-timed, but also capable of tearing a heterogeneous country like Nigeria apart and against the tenets of democracy and popular choice of the electorate.

“When I heard that call made by the Igbo elders on television, which more or less directed or requested the Ndigbo to vote for the President, instantly I felt it is ill-timed, in the sense that it was coming about 73 hours to the presidential election.

“Asking its people to vote for one particular candidate in a country that has been lauded as one indivisible nation with so many tribal and religious groups should not have come up.

“It is ill-timed and uncalled for; in the sense that it smacks of division; it smacks of anti-peace, anti-progress and anti-security,” said Monguno.

He said he was very much glad that other major ethnic groups in the country did not beat similar drum of support in favour of any candidate, adding that in a country that believes in unity, peace and progress, such tendencies could threaten the values of democracy.

He further disclosed that it will not be out of place if the authorities could call on those concerned to question, asking them to exercise some restraints, because it is ill-timed and damaging to our unity, especially at this critical time.

Bankole fell in Ogun state which is a PDP state with a PDP governor.

Ogun state governor  = ACN governor?

Oyo state governor = ACN governorship?

Like I said, you GEJ umblerra people are very clueless and ignorant, you don't even know your own states,

You are democratic, 1 week after the election, you are still fighting each other over rigged elections with no results. Is this your warped interpretation of democracy?   Do you people even evaluate your rubbish before you spew them? It's not by force to sound clueless and ignorant

As for the rest of your rubbish, I dare not waste my time on such worthless and ignorant crap.
Is the governor of ogun still a PDP member? huh. The last i heard, he said he is going to do what ever he can to bring down PDP.Go figure! And like I said, Bankole simply did not want to risk his life in SW murder muder politics.

As for Oyo state, a non-ACN governor state, go check the outcome of the election there and come pare the results to that of the ACN governor state then come back and talk. Next time you use your dirty mouth against Igbos think again.

Yes we are democratic but not perfect and not murderous like your people.Had this been in your own place bodies would have been dropping left and right.

That's the difference between us. We know right from wrong.

We got rid of them and they gently conceded and walked away because their people spoke with their votes. Unlike what you have in your backyard.
Gently? I don't call ACN winning an election in the state where the state governers are ACN members "listening to their people speak". If the governors had been PDP members then what would have happened? Nothing gentle about people who slaughter their brothers like lambs and with no remorse(Swesterners). We Igbos don't do that democracy is in our culture and has been there for thousands of years, unlike yours. We were even a democracy before the British, which were clearly, not too long ago, authoritarians. If today the british don't commit high slaughters of their people during a democracy and they've only been practicing it for a few hundred years, what makes you think people that have been practicing it for thousands of years wouldn't be less likely to be unruly in a democracy at a rate that's any high than theirs. Please mind you words, we are not the ones who bring out patrol at set our brothers on fire because of an election. Do keep that in mind next ime you use the words "gently conceded".The man(Bankole) simply did not want to risk his life. wink

@Chyz: I'm fine with Nigeria breaking up. If we cannot avoid having rigged elections and the people are denied their right to show their displeasure with the FG, then perhaps it is best if it does.

Not too worried about having the UN peacekeepers leave afterwards. . . those missions tend to be expensive and they aren't too keen on staying indefinitely
Nigeria splitting is not the problem. That would just be a blessing. The problem comes in when the UN(U.S. or britain) sets up a permanent military base in your land. Do keep in mind the massive resources in ur land, oil being the highest sort after.

PDP will have a strict majority, so unfortunately he cannot be Senate President unless he decamps to PDP.

If Buhari wins though and enough PDP senate members defect to the CPC (probably likely at least for the northern senators) to give the ACN/CPC a majority, then perhaps he can get that slot.
I still wait on Jega to do justice. I still have a lot of hope. it is more that clear that PDP rigged Kwara state. If that stands im convince that Jega fears polticians from certain states. The is talks about cancellation in Imo by APGA and ACN members also. There is still hope of weeding these fools out.

Don't know if you all have gotten it, agnotaen seems to be in conflict with his identity, in his personal life. More than likely, whenever the pressures and reality of his Igboness hits him, he comes on this thread to vent out his frustration by posting findings that make him feel better of himself, and "detaches" him in some way from the Igbo label. What agbotaen fails to learn is that not accepting Igbo is his choice and that he is free to claim Ika. Where Agbotaen crosses the line is when he groups other groups together and calls them Igbo. What exactly makes them Igbo and not his Ika? I would like to know.

Poll: INEC Decides Anambra Crisis Wednesday

By Ike Abony

13 Apr 2011

The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega Tuesday met with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to review last week’s parliamentary poll with a view to addressing challenges that emerged from last Saturday’s Presidential election.

THISDAY learnt that the controversial Anambra central Senatorial election was discussed with the REC stating that the election was inclusive. Jega reportedly questioned why the Returning Officer should announced Ngige winner if the election was inconclusive. It was learnt that after listening to Anambra REC and referring to relevant sections of the Electoral Act, Jega decided that with about 17,000 registered voters in the area where result is yet to be released and one of the candidates is leading with less than 50 votes, the law demands that the result should be inclusive until election is concluded in the remaining wards.

The meeting reportedly adjourned late Tuesday night. However, a decision is expected to be reached Wednesday at the end of Jega’s meeting with the RECs.

In the meantime, the duo of Ngige and Akunyili would have to wait for a final decision that is expected from this meeting later Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili has accused the Returning Officer, Dr. Alex Anene of allegedly demanding bribe before releasing the result of the senatorial district.

Akunyili who addressed newsmen Tuesday alongside the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh at the party headquarters in Abuja over the election tussle in Anambra state, said she was reportedly contacted on her phone by an agent working for absconded Anene requesting for negotiation in order for him to come out and declare his result.

"Anene asked me to arrange for him to negotiate with me and I said never, I am willing to offer myself for a re-run of the senatorial election so that a winner can emerge,"she said.

While narrating the incident that led to the impasse in the election, Akunyili said there were incontrovertible evidence that the election was inconclusive as results from some of the wards could not be declared because of irregularities. She said the problem of election in Nigeria is not that of the process but the desperation of politicians to win at all cost and their inability to accept defeat honourably.

While dismissing the declaration of the candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Dr. Chris Ngige as winner of the senatorial poll, APGA Chairman said the party stands by decision of INEC to cancel results in some of the wards and to conduct a re-run.

He explained that election in the Anambra Central was largely peaceful and successful, except for about four wards and polling units where the elections were cancelled.

Onitsha port ready for operation-FG

From EMMANUEL UZOR, Onitsha

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Federal Government has said the Onitsha port is ready for operation to ease transportation stress and reduce the sufferings of importers in the South-east zone of the country.

Speaking yesterday at Onitsha during the International Stakeholders’ Conference on “Harnessing the potentials of lower River Niger,” the Minister for Transport, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman said the port had been concluded to start operation by June this year.
According to Alhaji Suleiman, the port would among other things reduce the sufferings of the importers in the country and enhance the economic activities in the country, adding that importers would not be subjected to untold sufferings they had faced in the other ports.

“Onitsha is the centre of commerce and industry and this part of the country is very essential and that is why the Federal Government decided to hold the summit here it would enable it know the extent the dredging of the lower Niger has gone.”

“The National Inland Waterway Authority will work in collaboration with the private sectors to make sure the port and other infrastructure are sustained and maintained so that our people will maximize the gains of democracy.”

Also speaking, the state Governor, Peter Obi said the dredging of the lower River Niger and the completion of the Onitsha Port was very critical to his administration’s resolve to industrialize the state.
Governor Obi, however, lauded the Federal Government for expeditiously concluding the projects of Onitsha port, which he said would enhance industrialization in the state and the country at large.
He called on foreign investors and traders in Onitsha market to maximize the port for effective transportation of their goods and services and expressed worries over the cost at the country’s ports.

jason123:
Exactly brother. If we can have Hausa-Fulani, why cant we have Yoruba-Igbohuh Can you see that this divide and rule mechanism is killing us, southerners. The NC are afraid of the North, they want to unite with the south. All we need to do first, is to unite the South. Especially Yoruba and Igbo, politically. Once that is done, the SS will follow automatically. By this, we have move the batle ground from the South to the middle belt, If this can be done, our (southern) agenda of progress, religious tolerance and education can be mainstream in Nigeria. The so called North, will have no choice be to follow the progressive ways while the Northern cabal that has impoverished the youths (almajiris) for their manipulations will be relegated to the background.

Our Ideologies will be mainstream. The south has always been for federalism. That will be implemented. If not, a better system will be used to prevent marginalisation of the minorities in the south and north.
CPC is taking over the norther and division in the south will be a detriment so your point is pretty valid. Although when it comes to the state level in SE(a=including Anioma when its created) im for APGA. If Acn grabs the MB then i think nationally all parts of the south should probably join.
