PhonesRe: MTN BIS Is Now Really Unlimited. by ciphoenix: 10:52pm On Apr 08, 2013
Emmykeyz: No. Its not unlimited. Every year between Q1 and Q2 period I test GSM ISPs. I've used Glo, Airtel and MTN. About to go on etisalat to test the caps. MTN is not unlimited. MTN is a very random network. Mr A can get 6GB for bis while Mr B can get 2GB. But the real standard is BIS - 1GB, BBC - 300MB. In march I used 2 MTN Bis lines. BIS and BBC. Download 3.85GB on BIS and 2.2GB on BBC. Then they start to fap ur airtime!!
MTN won't tell you how many MB u have left why do you think that is? They be loving ur airtime! Glo BBC was just stepped down to 1GB frm 3GB 2 weeks ago.

No nigerian network really gives unlimited data plan. Where they say its unlimited, fair usage policy applies.

In NOV of 2012 using MTN BIS and tunnelGuru VPN I downloaded 145GB.
fair usage and you used 145GB? shocked shocked shocked

i can tell you mine isn't capped though.

in the month of april, i've used more than 70GB
Science/TechnologyRe: Cost Of Different Sources Of Electricity In Nigeria by ciphoenix: 10:25pm On Apr 08, 2013
ayox2003: First off, a segmented class exist in Nigeria: the poor (more than 50%), the middle class, and the rich (less than 10%).

Nigerians need 60,000MW yet we generate 4,500Mw. People need electricity and they would go to any length to get it at the cheapest price. For the poor, they would rather buy a small, less than $100 = N16,000 generator that they'd be able to fuel with $2 = N320 and would meet their energy needs because they stay small rooms. The middle class could buy a $600 = N95,000 generator that he would fuel with $40 = N6,500 per week. The rich spend much more.

Cheap is the nigerian slogan. Chinese products thrive in Nigeria because they are cheap. The one-off payment that might last longer and save more doesn't really matter to nigerians. Once they can afford a product at any time, even if it would later cost them more than buying an expensive product that would last longer and perform better, they don't mind buying it over and over again.

Solar pays on the long run but the one-time payment for installation is not cheap for the poor and some middle class. Hence, generators are preferred.

luluosas: In all sincerity, how many lines do you presently have and why do you have them? Here, I am not even bordered about the 90 days stuff but, the fact that these present telcos in Nigeria are all the same.
i use 2. MTN and Airtel, because i have 2 phones.

they will all be the same until
the MNP is in full effect.

then they'll be battling to
outdo each other

newman10: My Oga thank you so much. The grand is a dual sim phone. I guess that account for why i didnt see any drop down menu when I input the *#*# bla bla bla and yes i know 3G is the same as WCDMA, UMTS and HSDPA. I have previously used a galaxy s2 and s duos. Both of them has the WCDMA only option. So I know what I'm saying. I guess I have to use the phone just like that. I will upload the screen shot sha
from what i know about the grand, SIM2 can only
use EDGE while the SIM1 uses WCDMA

PhonesRe: Mobile Number Portability In Nigeria: Advantages & Disadvantages by ciphoenix: 11:53am On Apr 08, 2013
before the MNP, you could only swap provider by buying a new sim. assuming you're swapping from Glo to MTN and Glo had x subscribers, your getting a new sim doesn't affect that figure. it remains x subscribers.

but with MNP, if you were to switch it will be
x - 1
subscribers, their loss.

i believe they're not dumb enough to lose subscribers so they'll all sit up.

if service is good, why would you want to switch every week?

this is a good thing.

if you're so concerned about the interval being too long then it shows you don't believe the MNP will make providers serious.

"python is babash"? really?
tell that to the owners of dropbox,
blender3D, cinema 4D bittorrent and a host
of other useful apps for which python was used.

why exactly do you consider it "babash"?

Mueeze: Thanks. Chrome just proved to be a worthy competitor to Firefox. But it's slower than Firefox. The advantage is in its ease of navigation. Downloading is at par, they are both Crap.
chrome is in no way, slower
than firefox. i love them both.
great browsers with sync option
but with my chrome, i can send pages
to my desktop printer, even save to my pc
as pdf from my phone cool .

again i'm already in love with chrome
developer mode and all. just too cool.
upgraded yet?

anything stock is dull....be it browser or whatsoever undecided
i like firefox because of the addons available, but still the stress of opening a new tab is too much angry
to those talking about downloading, try EasyDownloaderfrom the play store...you dont need a browser just to download stuff undecided
i still prefer aDownloader tongue
download manager and bittorrent client in one
cool

firefox's addons do give it an
advantage over the others though

i've tried so hard, yet for some reason
can't find positives in UCbrowser huh undecided

Mueeze: UCBrowser has a download manager, and it happens to be faster than opera mini. I haven't actually compared its data compression, but why the need to compress data and limit your browsing experience? I would rather go for a browser that is fast and wouldn't limit the experience. Plus UCBrowser is kinda dull. Default browser is a no no for me. I haven't tried firefox, and chrome is alright but it doesnt open some sites and downloading with it is annoying.
The stock browser on the Note 2 isn't bad at all.
UCbrowser was too unstable for my liking
my chrome is synced across all my devices
Windows, Android, Ubuntu(Chromium) smiley
