eyenCalabar: No bro. Tribalism can never be good in any way. There can never be any meaningful growth in Nigeria if we continue with it. And we can never understand ourselves any better with it. We are one and the same people. That's all. We don't need any better understanding than this.
Your thinking is just like mine 5 years ago after i had a minor misunderstanding with my bosom yoruba friend who was even a Pastor! Then, he said some really unprintable things about Igbos that shocked me.I wondered where all that came from? I wondered if he said all that in anger or if he always had that in mind while pretending we were bossom friends.
I have seen exactly the same sentiments repeated here on NL by almost every yoruba. So you can see they were actually taught to hate and they believe it completely in their heart. I thank NL for providing an avenue for people to speak their mind.

I have abandoned wishful thinking that some people will ever change their beliefs and Nigeria could become one great people! For so many years i suffered in agony hoping that such an impossible thing will happen.I have since come to realize it was people like me that didn't want to acknowledge the truth about challenges of tribalism, corruption, hatred and jealousy in Nigeria before trying to unite it that were the biggest problem.

Last month,Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom made a passionate plea that Nigeria should revert to our national anthem at independence because we still had not overcome the issues our founding fathers faced, and he was insulted and called a tribalist! Now, Akpabio is the last man that deserves that adjective because he is a true Nigerian based on how he has treated non-indigenes in his state. I listened to that anthem again and realized the man was right! Nigeria must acknowledge our differences first before emphasizing the brotherhood we need to prosper.
PoliticsRe: Nairaland: A Land Of Equal Opportunities by cjrane: 8:01pm On Dec 19, 2012
NL na tribalism square. But it is good because if we must live together as one country,we must know what each other really think. So,in a way, it will help Nigeria understand itself better.
Nairaland GeneralRe: What Landed You In Nairaland? by cjrane: 7:48pm On Dec 19, 2012
Ah!
I just opened google one nice breezy day to read about Naija wahala. Wow! i saw serious anti-Igbo tribalism of the worst order! I think it was from one aigbofa.
I said aaah!, i am Delta Ibo but this one concerns me o! Which kain dirty tok be that? So i joined the site to dialogue with my yoruba people to calm down for the Heeboe people! If my beg no work, then i fire back grin grin grin . When i fire, Mukina go vex immediately, and ban me sharp-sharp for daring to fire yoruba back. The ban go sweet me well -well becos now i know say my fire dey vex them too, just as their fire against heeboes dey vex me sometimes. grin grin grin

Since then na fire for fire we dey o, my brother. grin grin grin cheesy
PoliticsRe: The City Of Portharcourt Deserves More Attention As A Regional Hq From Fg by cjrane: 2:19am On Dec 19, 2012
karfe: Contrary to the OP, i believe Nigeria should be rearranged into its NATURAL cultural regions as much as possible (see my signature) and these regions should be autonomous. the cities i listed: abuja, lagos, phc and kaduna, are placed at the intersections of these natural regions and if they are run by the federalgovernment, will help to discourage secession which is likely if the centre is too weak. It has often been argued on this forum how lagos is more of a Federal city due to its history even though geographically it belongs to yorubaland

The intention is not to replicate numerous abujas and make the state functions redundant
Would it then be a bad thing to replicate "Abujas" in every state or indeed every city of Nigeria? Your thinking is exactly the problem of Nigeria. Thieves select artificial sites and steal resources from other areas to develop it. Citing bogus, stupid argument for their untenable action and imagine they have deceived everyone.

America has 50 states, all with cities as beautiful as their capital Washington DC! So nobody needs to move from Texas,Florida,California,Oregon,Iowa,Connecticut, Louisiana or Georgia to live in Washington DC just because it has a higher standard of living because resources from other areas was stolen and wasted on it. That is the critical difference between the Nigerian mindset and the Americans. They consider Nevada to be just as important as Ohio. What makes you think Abuja deserves more resources than Ado-Ekiti ? Infact, it is because of our penchant for cheating that nobody wants to remain in a united Nigeria,in spite of our powerful advantages for staying united.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by cjrane:
snydergp: I really don't know whether I should laugh at the above post or cry.

Wikipedia is that ur credibility as a sourcegrin

The cubans never had the means to invade SA because SADF had over 450,000 conscripts including reserves.

Did wikipedia tell u that SADF was rated as the 10 largest military power at that point and had a nuclear deterent against the USSR.

Once again stop talking sh*t because the USSR deployed MIG29's against SA and at the time had airial superiority against SADF up untill the advent of SADF's deployment of CHEETAH fighter late at the end of the war.

Another thing u failed to tell us that in 80% of all ground asaults against SADF the cubans and there USSR T-55's lost against SA's Eland Armoured cars because of its high mobility and that the Eland is still considered today as one of the worlds best high mobility fighter craft.

Contary to what ur claim is propaganda here SADF did have only 3 batalions at a time in Angola even the useless source wiki.... has several reverences to thus.

Cuba never had the military means of attacting SA and even if they tried they wouldve faced arguebly the worlds best artilary guns at that time and this would've also esculated into a regionwide war including nuclear fallout on Angolan soil fact.

There are 100's of different opions on that bush war and the majority of them are contary to ur statement we can debate this till there's another boko attact in northern naija the fact remains the cubans and russians lost more lives and hardware protecting angola then in any other post WWII conflict including afghanistan USSR invation fact.
Stop being ridiculous. Wikipedia isn't the only source there.Unless you have suddenly developed eye problems.

I am neither cuban nor south african. I would gladly not raise the issue of victors had south africa won. But Cuba kicked the bossom of the south africans. Every historical source had the same account of which side won. Indeed, the fact that the MPLA which the south Africans sought to remove still control Angola till date is enough proof of who the victors were.
You can peruse as many sources as you like for any difference in the wikipedia conclusion of which side won the Angola war.

Nigeria would have been more beautiful than Dubai.
Every Nigerian would all have lived together as one people, electing only those who will serve Nigerians irrespective of their language and most importantly without ever knowing about the word TRIBALISM which i think is a Yoruba word.
PoliticsRe: The City Of Portharcourt Deserves More Attention As A Regional Hq From Fg by cjrane: 7:11pm On Dec 18, 2012
karfe: Just like Abuja is the FCT, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kaduna should be special Federal Territories, independent of any state with special infrastructure development funding. These cities are quite cosmopolitan, represent a 'Nigerian' outlook and are unique in different ways. Lagos - commercial, phc - oil hub, kaduna - defence, etc
Just like FCT is Abuja, Lagos is commercial capital,Portharcourt is oil hub, Calabar is tourism hub, Lokoja is confluence town, Aba & nnewi are manufacturing hub,Maiduguri is being prepared as second oil hub from Lake Chad, Enugu and Ibadan are the education hub, Warri is the oil infrastructure manufacturing hub,Onitsha is a trading hub, Abakaliki is the rice hub and Ado-Ekiti is the knowledge and wisdom hub.

These places need immediate FG attention as special territories to attain their potential and serve Nigeria in their different fields.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by cjrane: 6:50pm On Dec 18, 2012
andrewza: Sorry 3000 SA solders fought a cuban/angolan army to a stand still. The ussr spent more money on the Angolan war than in afghanstan. The War ended with a agrement between the super powers that would have all forghine forces withdraw from Angola that included MK and other revloutionary solders. So Angola kind of abandoned the ANC. Nambia/south west africa was a diffrent deal that would allow ellections. Part of that deal was no MK bases would be established.

Of course before any of this was really tested the ANC was unbanded so no longer needed. But at the end of it all more cubans and angolans died than South africans. In a lot of battels more cubans and angolans died than there where south africans taking place in the battel. And SA had a means to keep cuba out of nambia and it was the USSR. They did not want a escoltion of the war in to nuclear exchange. And if cuba enterd Nambia SA would nuke them thuse the war remanid only in Angola.
Dude,
Stop spreading falsehood or perhaps that is the propaganda they fed you guys.
SADF forces in Angola was more than 3000.That propaganda figure of 3000 was only given because the South African government was roundly criticized for invading Angola, thus they claimed SADF took a surgical action with only 3000 troops and not invasion of Angola as the OAU had accused them. Indeed,it was the entire South African army that was involved in that Bush war.Nigeria has then made the then OAU to recognize MPLA as the official government of Angola, which provided the apartheid SA government an excuse to claim black African countries had a plan to overthrow their government by military force. As a result of that fear,USA and Britain to backed that SA regime clandestinely with every military hardware in their arsenal.

The Cubans did the Angolan intervention without the knowledge of the Russians. Indeed, it scared the crap out of the Russians who didn't want another confrontation with America soon after their cuban missile crisis. Indeed, at a point, Fidel Castro was so fed up fighting tit for tat with SADF, that he had wanted to ask his forces to cross into South Africa and sack the apartheid regime. United States warned that advance of communism in Africa would not be tolerated and thus, such action by communist cuba would trigger a massive US military intervention to protect the south African government which US was already clandestinely supporting at the time. The US threat forced the Cubans to back down.Indeed, following the SADF defeat and retreat, it was the OAU that persuaded Angola to ask the Cubans to leave fearing the USSR might use Angola as a foothold to spread communism in the continent.
Again, South Africa NEVER possessed nuclear weapons, so your assertion that the Cubans didn't enter Namibia for fear of some phantom nukes is simply laughable. I have told you it was the US threat and the reluctance of the Russians to be sucked into a confrontation with America by Fidel Castro that removed the gas from Castro from chasing the defeated and retreating SADF into Pretoria.
Read about the decisive Battle of Quifangondo which was the downfall the SADF never recovered

See all the accounts on the Angola war testify that the SADF and FNLA & UNITA were forced to retreat by the victorious Cuban forces. Stop spreading falsehood here. It is just 30 years ago that all these happened.

andrewza: What do you mean avoid heavy combat. In sudan SANDF solders deploy to red zones. Yes we use words to secure them but not every problem can be solved with vilonce. The only thing that brought all the partys to the negtion tabel in burindie was the SANDF.

Or how about the DRC where we have solders in Goma when the national DRC army ran away the SANDF remaind behind.

Or Angola where we embarsed the cuban army.

Yes our goverment prevers to talk but warmongering is no way to lead Africa. We need less war here not more.

And by the way elements of the SADC standby brigade may be deployed to the DRC to combat the rebels.

The DRC never asked for help from SA they asked the UN and AU for help.

Some solder boys. We have over 1000 solders in the DRC. Compair that to Angola where we where fighting a war we deployed only 3000 at any given time.

You give senior officers to much credit. Any case I said I have 3 years servisis.
I usually don't read this thread because i think it is meaningless. Nigeria and South Africa will never go into an armed conflict so that all the noise in this thread can not be tested. So i see it as pure speculative waste of time.

But i wish to point out a fallacy in your statement "Or Angola where we embarsed the cuban army". This statement is completely false.
The Cubans disgraced SADF and did win the Angolan conflict with MPLA remaining in power and Jonas Savimbi even killed in action.Perhaps you were too young to know the truth or you believed the propaganda they fed you in South Africa.

Indeed, the dismantling of apartheid and release of Dr. Nelson Mandela were part of Cuban demands before they would withdraw their forces and stop killing the then SADF.Indeed if it were not for fear of provoking a major US military intervention, the Cubans had every means of crossing the border into South Africa and sacking the racist regime in Pretoria. The SADF was not any obstacle at all. Have you asked yourself why Cuba (Fidel Castro) was about the first country and world leader that Dr. Mandela visited immediately he was released?

The saddest part of Nigeria's cruelty is lack of empathy for other less fortunate Nigerians. Look at that lady in the picture pondering how she would feed her family this Christmas, after they have destroyed her business for a road that is surely going to be abandoned in the next few weeks from corruption. Simply sad. That is exactly the reason i hate Nigeria.

I hope the ediot knows that Lagos is not a south west city nor state.Lagos was the capital of Nigeria until very recently 1991 and has remained the commercial capital since then. Thus the Federal government mindlessly spent the resources derived from other parts of the country to develop our Federal Capital, Lagos.
Lets enjoy this thread and ignore the tribal ediot as he was ignored in the Enugu thread.

@papaBrownie

Well if Lagos isn't part of the SW, then Onitsha also isn't part of the SE, neither is Rivers part of the SS.

The SW was the most progressive region before we were all bunched under a federating unit and this is what we have chosen to re-establish. The Western region was a minimum of 50yrs ahead of other regions and if we had continued at that pace, SA would currently be Africa's number two

I know a lot of people will be pained by this move but no force in the world can stop an idea whose time has come.

Yorubaland o no baje
So Onitsha and Rivers were Federal Capital territories and i didn't know it! Wow !, learn something new every day! cheesy grin grin
PoliticsRe: Why Nigeria’s Southwest Must Be Integrated by cjrane: 4:21pm On Dec 15, 2012
Secession being discussed openly an we are being told to reason like we are fools not to recognize the implication of their plot. The six geopolitical zones for the purpose of administrative convenience is OK, but no regionalism!

There shall be no regionalism in Nigeria! It has been long overtaken by events PERIOD!
It was for the same reason Nigeria went to war with Biafra to renege the Aburi accord which suggested devolution of powers to the regions to develop at their own pace, and Awolowo in his wisdom, objected to that idea of Regionalism and instead supported creation of states. Nigeria has however known relative peace but no development with that idea. But peace is better than development.

Therefore, Regionalism can quickly put a good size of the Nigerian territory under the control of somebody who is not the President. We know from our history that can be a recipe for trouble. NO TO REGIONALISM !

If this is found out to be targeted at igbos and other nigerians in Lagos, i do think we should react to teach these animals some small lesson. If the oil companies and our governors will not sack them from our cities as Fashola did, then we must use the Boko tactics on them.

Target all those chubby yorober oil company workers and business owners in our cities for kidnap and assassination one by one. They will soon get the message and leave our region for us and go enjoy their region flowing with cocoa and rubber. For too long, they have been spared in every ethnic riot,so they now lord over us in our own land now.

PoliticsRe: Igbos Are Their Own Enemies-adebanjo by cjrane: 11:25am On Dec 10, 2012
I didn't want to waste my time on an ediot with senile dementia.I can only ask adebanjo to;

1. provide citation where Biafra was being fed by Nigeria before Awolowo decided to stop it.
2. Provide proof that soldiers were in the refugee camps cornering the food being shared by the red cross, churches and other NGOs for the civilians.

The man is a typical Yoruba that believes in lies. Is it not a shame that Biafran army suffered less than 1% of the casualties of the war, while the women and babies who did not know who Gowon,Awolowo or Ojukwu were suffered almost 100% casualties of that war? Why must you rather bomb a refugee camp than bomb Biafran army headquarters or military units in their bases? The atrocities of that genocidal war against innocent babies will continue to haunt Nigeria until its inevitable demise. Unless vultures like adebanjo will shut up and listen to men of justice like Prof. Wole Soyinka to first acknowledge that what Igbos have cried about was true and then we can heal as a nation.

All these strategies of trying to cover the truth by bringing one corrupt animal after another is just a waste of time. Why have they not interviewed Obasanjo or benjamin adekunle self acclaimed Igbo haters to tell them something good they want to hear? Yeye people.
PoliticsRe: Achebe's Civil War Memoir: Lets Not Re-open Old Wounds- Fashola by cjrane: 11:00am On Dec 10, 2012
Fashola speaks as though the wound has healed. No! It is still sore.
It is worse when people like Fashola try to window dress the truth as if they have some moral authority to do so.
Fashola should not ask a slapped child not to cry as a panacea, he should ask the abuser what the child did to merit such thousand slaps.

In America, after their civil war, they carefully collected data from all sides of the country to make their history balance. They didn't demonize the south of their country and deny infrastructural development on the excuse they were the rebel side as Nigeria is doing. They equally developed Georgia,Tennessee,Texas,Louisiana,Arkansas,Florida,Mississippi,Nevada, etc to become truly part of the United States. In Nigeria, Awolowo tried to impoverish Igbos and did everything in his power to make sure their region was impoverished and Igbo was not re-integrated into Nigeria which they were forced to be part of. Now,if Achebe writes that fact in his book it becomes a problem?

And pretenders like Fashola will talk their nonsense as if they truly are pan-Nigerian at heart. We all know the truth and it is a waste of time denying it to people who know it.
