KikBuhari2Daura:Buhari has never been a good Muslim. He only uses Islam when it suits his political agenda. A good Muslim will try all in his power to respect Ramadan |
peteregwu:This is a legitimate question for which you will not get any sensible answer. It is like writing latin in our currency when it is not spoken by any tribe or people in Nigeria except used by Catholics in some prayers. Nigeria is a study in contradiction and foolery. |
Abagworo:Wow! Biko re-post it! If the runway is extended to safely land large bodied aircrafts typically used for international cargo haulage, then we truly have something bubbling in Owerri. Rochas should use the opportunity that his friend Buhari is in power to get the airport gazetted as an international airport now. Just as Kaduna was gazetted as an international airport. This will prevent SMICA from being blocked politically from receiving international flights if Buhari leaves power. At least it will be something Rochas will be remembered for and which can be pointed to in Igboland as a tangible project approved by Buhari regime for the region. Also post the runway extension of SMICA here: https://www.nairaland.com/4463989/pan-igbo-political-economic-forum/12 It is a project of regional significance. |
Abagworo:I meant runway for Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport (SMICA), Owerri. NOT the Okigwe stadium race tracks. |
Abagworo:This is very heart warming and good for the economy of Imo state. However for large bodied cargo planes to land at the airport, the runway already 2.7KM in length must be extended by at least 300 meters to reach 3KM in length. Preferably 3.5KM This is very vital in getting foreign airlines to use the airport and for it's viability as a cargo airport. Else, all these building will eventually be used for poultry business. |
The problem is that APC is the most corrupt party in Nigeria' history. It only figured that Nigerians will not bother about what you steal, as long as you continue shouting and accusing others of corruption. |
spyder880:Street trading is a problem in SE cities. I guess the solution isn't to eradicate street trading completely. But make sure they occurs in approved building structures and no make shift umbrellas or illegal shacks are allowed on the streets. |
Ofuzo:I am begging you to ignore that tout. Even in Anambra thread he pollutes it with looking for who to engage in posting foul pictures. He is neither Igbo nor from Anambra. I often think it is the same individual that call himself Abagworo in the Imo thread running around to make gullible people join them in their fake war between Imo vs. Anambra or Enugu vs. Anambra. I beg you to just ignore him completely! He is looking for negative attention and feel gratified once you respond to him. |
Cooly100:Enugu is even one of the best cities in Nigeria. But being the best city in Nigeria is like saying you are the best behaved in hell. Enugu should compare and aspire to levels of other African cities outside Nigeria and not cities within Nigeria EXCEPT Abuja. Enugu is so close to achieving the Kigali transformation if it only took it's environment seriously. It will only take a couple of youths mobilized with shovels and palm /other tree species to go all over the city and plant on the road medians at intervals of 5 meters apart. The question is if the rulers of Nigeria think a good environment is important at all?
|
APC are a bunch of criminals. Like Buhari, APC politicians figured that the best way to distract Nigerians when you are looting the government treasury is to always complain there is "No money" and "Blame" someone for the corruption. Once you do that, you can steal as much as you like and Nigerians will never even notice what you stole as they are focused on a previous regime. Great tactics that has worked in fooling Nigerians! Nigerians have taken the poisonous bait of APC and the country is in trouble

For those searching for frantic excuses to justify why we shouldn't make our cities look decent. Shame on you! Why not also make excuses with mosquitoes too instead of cows and goats? Or better still make excuses with the heat of the sun and claim the sun is hotter in Kigali than Nigeria? Countries like Rwanda that transformed Kigali on meager budgets (About the size of a state govt. budget in Nigeria) have proven that even if a country doesn't have money for big infrastructure such as bridges and flyovers, utilizing the little in it's possession to ensure clean streets adorned with tree-lined boulevards and beautiful open areas will achieve the same effect. Since maintaining Kigali, their government has attracted a lot of foreign investors to build hotels, set up telecommunications etc in their country! Compare Kigali to Abuja where the vast of Nigeria's resources were spent since 1976? The progress made by Kigali by simply planting trees and cleaning up it's streets since 2006 almost make the two cities comparable! Enugu should copy the Kigali example and maintain the little it has. You really don't need to build multiple flyovers to build a world class decent city.
|
TonyeBarcanista:APC is a bunch of crooks. Like Buhari, they simply figured Nigerians are so dumb that all you need to claim integrity is to accuse someone of corruption. While you are perpetrating an even bigger theft at the same time! . ..Its so sad for Nigeria.

Cooly100: OreMI22:I agree with you statements. I rate Peter Obi and Sullivan Chime as giants simply because they had enough sense to know a beautiful environment was as important to ambiance and health as building roads or other infrastructure. I say this because Chime and Obi were the FIRST Southeast governors to realize that beautifying the environment was just as important as building roads and they did a lot to sanitize and beautify key cities in their states.Picture Cooly100 posted were courtesy of Chime. See how proud it made us feel about Enugu! I wish the state legislatures make a mandatory provision of N1 billion naira annually for beautification of our cities and towns. It was a legacy of the civil war that we no longer pay any attention to aesthetics and just worry about the barest minimum. We must go back to making the environment conducive and beautiful. We are not animals that should be content with basic shelter and roads. We need a beautiful environment and a beautiful city of our own. Come to think of it, that is why we love Abuja, South Africa or Europe because human beings there made effort to beautify the streets and open areas with trees and flowers. We should do the same for our own cities and stop acting like only the white man knows how to beautify cities. We can do it and we must. |
Afam4eva:Enugu has 8 (Eight) flyover bridges without counting the Ebeano tunnel or the Sullivan Tunnel along Abakaliki expressway. All Enugu flyovers are connecting two parts to the city bisected by the Highway.Three on Enugu -Onitsha expressway, One on Enugu-Abakaliki road and four on Enugu -PH expressway. The problem is that unlike Anambra that has taken time to decorate its own flyovers at Upper Iweka and Nkpor, Enugu largely neglected most of her flyovers to look like a refuse dump.Infact, Enugu flyovers are still in the shape of what upper Iweka flyover used to be in late 1990s. Most of Enugu flyovers are now zones for mechanic shops and dump site for unserviceable vehicles. Perhaps, except the one on Abakaliki road leading to Akanu Ibiam Intl. airport which Sullivan re-built and beautified. I hope the Enugu state government begins to beautify her flyovers starting with the ones at Gariki, then ones linking Independence layouts Phase I to Phase II and two others on the Enugu-PH road, and also the ones from nineth mile, new market flyover to Trans-Ekulo along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway. They need to demolish all the illegal building built on Enugu flyover ramps, remove those mechanic shops and beautify the places. If they replicate what Peter Obi and Obiano did to Upper Iweka and the Awka flyovers in terms of beautification to Enugu flyovers, then nobody will ever pass Enugu without noticing the amazing beauty of flyovers that connect various areas to the city center. Remember Peter Obi had a hard time to sack all those who used the Upper Iweka Flyover ramp as motor parks and illegal markets, then he beautified the place. Enugu government must be bold and do the same for Enugu and posterity |
Malawian:If he is Yoruba and lives in Igboland and loves Igbo people , HE IS WELCOME TO BE ONE OF US. It is only those that promote oppression against Igbo people and hate us for nothing other than tribalism that should be fought by all means necessary. |
Abagworo:The synthetic turf is LOOKING REALLY NICE ! Hopefully they will make the tracks with red tartan and mark the lanes in a standard way to meet international standard. |
investnow2013:I am glad these people are removing these illegal markets and filling stations that has bastardized Anambra state for decades. They should continue with this work courageously. However, they should quickly move into Nnewi city. Nnewi is the city with the worst violations with illegal markets and petrol stations in Africa. People buy a residential plot of land and instead of building residential buildings, they build filling stations on residential plots of land! It sounds really crazy but it is true in Anambra. Especially in Nnewi! The team needs to move heavily into Nnewi and help sanitize the area. In Nnewi, unscrupulous business men build filling stations on residential plots of land, right next to people's homes who cook with gas, kerosene or firewood! That is why the last two major fire diasaters in Nnewi-based filling stations took hundreds of innocent lives because filling stations are always illegally located among people's homes! See another one being built in Otolo, Nnewi below.

Don't know why they think the same rubbish trick will work. Going to restart the bridge they abandoned for 3 years now just to play politics ? Election gimmick. The crap will be abandoned before the votes are counted. |
horsepower101:I love how you highlighted the key points. But we should always avoid using the word infrastructure which hides specific things Under infrastructure there are 3 key projects; 1. A high speed railway network to link the entire region. Funded through a combination of World bank, Chines loans and 5 SE state governments in collaboration with Governments of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers to extend the Southern axis of the tracks. Bayelsa and Delta states will be linked in second Phase of the project. 2. Small power plants specifically built in a place referenced to as industrial clusters in Abia and Anambra states to drive industrialization 3. Key Industries: Development of Nkalagu Cement and use of the high quality cement for the key projects. Development and mass production of solar panel industries and encourage people to use solar electricity as stand accessory for homes. Building of Modular refineries producing less than 10,000 barrels of refined petroleum products at Naze, Imo state and Nsugbe, Anambra state. Concession of Akanu Ibiam International airport and expansion of the airport to have two runways and operate flights into Europe, Ameriaca and Brazil. |
investnow2013:I have always feared that these people will soon use the demolition as another weapon, Now i have nothing against demolishing fences too close to the expressway. But please let them focus on eradicating illegal structures and street markets from every street and also illegal petrol stations or homes built too close to major highways. |
ChimaAdeoye:Chima, I totally agree the parking lot should be on the ground while the mall is on top. It makes every sense to do it that way. But it might be too late to change the plan now. I don't think cars can drive in the ground floor meant for the store. The huge pillars are already in place. I think they should just make it a two storey mall and use the topmost floors for banks, a world class restaurant etc to recoup their construction cost in sinking those huge pillars hoping to build an elevated parking garage This issue has been hammered and discussed in 2014. Four years after, the mall is yet to be delivered. Here:https://www.nairaland.com/1930337/anambra-light-nation-eastern-economy/49

Xander85:You are one of the most cerebral Igbo people i have seen. You precisely know what counts, and you refuse to be distracted by chaff and emotional projects such as the so called scam called Niger bridge construction You are sharply focused on things that are game changers. I am just in love with your highly focused way of thinking. I wish more Igbo people are that strategic in thoughts and action and focus on things that truly count in the big picture. We won't be so easily deceived and taken for granted with emotional projects that truly don't add any value. |
Who are these men and WHY are they on our currency notes?
|
Obi1kenobi:Any wise person already knows that its unwise to build stadia in environments where a lot of infrastructure deficit as roads, power generation, rail etc are desperately needed. Look at the picture above and realize we are still building bridges and roads to connect places. The concrete used for that bridge will not be enough for just one pillar in a 30,000 capacity stadium. Why waste the money for bridges and roads on stadium?? Some very rich states can waste any amount they like to build stadium, but states struggling to find enough IGR to cover developmental aspirations and industrialization must shun such wasteful behavior. We can develop standard pitches as picture below in some selected secondary schools in each senatorial zone to serve as sports development centers for students competitions.New talents are discovered from their secondary school fields and then eventually develop. States that built new stadia have not discovered more athletes than those who did not. That assertion is false and very deceptive.

mktinsight:FACT CHECK: It's Obiano that extended the road from Inosi-Onira roundabout to old Onitsha toll gate. He went on to build 3 flyovers in Awka and had been expanding the road through the state capital into 10 lanes. This isn't about Peter Obi vs. Obiano contest and i will stop responding if you make this a narrow topic about two men. As already stated, Peter Obi did his best. But Obiano obviously thinks bigger and has been poised to do greater things. Obiano has the courage to take actions needed unlike Obi and others. If Obiano demolished your building, deal with it and stop building illegally. As for the ongoing demolition of illegal structures, it is a necessary growing pains. You mentioned that elites were leaving Anambra, this is the first time in the history of the state that reasonable people have lived in Anambra due to improved security. In the past any notable Anambra person from Ojukwu to Ekwueme to Andy Ubah all lived in Enugu! Today, i am seeing world class housing estates that rival independence layout spring up in Awka. You may not like Obiano, but he has truly done a lot to change the narrative of Anambra. |
mktinsight:I don't want to make this a debate about Peter Obi and Obiano. I just want to point out your falsehood. Mind you, i have no reason to back any because i am not even an indigene of the state. I just grew up there. I respect Peter Obi because he truly started the recovery of Anambra from a pariah state to an exemplary state. He also gave us Obiano. Anambra used to be much worse state than Abia state. Obi helped change the history of the state. Peter Obi spoke about a much touted N16 billion naira urban renewal of Onitsha. Everyone thought Peter Obi would go into Onitsha and fix the roads, build big gutters to check flooding, put street lights on Awka road, Ugwunabamkpa, Oguta roads and New Cemetery road. Perhaps also extend it to Oraifite street and Ezeiweka etc. Alas! What Peter Obi did was go to former Onitsha north LGA and demolished the building to build a mediocre township stadium stating that Col. Atom Kpere as Governor breached the master plan to build LGA instead of stadium in the area. Then he went to Bridgehead market and forced them to fence it because it was an eyesore while entering the state (I commend him on that). These two actions principally summed the Obi administration's much announced urban renewal of Onitsha! Incidentally, at the same time Akpabio was doing urban renewal / uncommon transformation of Uyo. We know which city was transformed and which remained largely what it was. Uyo became a transformed city and very little changed in Onitsha. The problem was that Peter Obi was too afraid to do the hard work that was needed to improve Onitsha and ban the use of Okada as means of public transportation, even when it was banned in Uyo and every other neighboring state in SE and SS. All the Okada people from all over the country suddenly descended on Onitsha and Anambra as the only place Okada public transport system was allowed in the whole southern Nigeria! We know that unless you have courage to demolish illegal structures and clear public areas taken over by illegal traders, you will have done nothing in Onitsha. That is why Obiano's present action is highly commendable because he is tackling the problem at the root instead of playing to the gallery by demolishing one elementary school in Onitsha and claiming he needs to build a TV house because it was in the original master plan. You have to CLEAR ALL STREETS AND ROADS OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES and then upgrade the infrastructure if you want to save Onitsha. It is a necessary painful step which MUST be taken. That is why i refer to Obiano as a tiger because he takes hard, difficult steps to truly solve a problem at the root. |
mktinsight:Stop lying as if nobody has lived in Onitsha except you. Obiano has transformed Onitsha beyond my widest dream. I lived in Fegge, Awada and Woliwo and i can tell you those areas have improved drastically from what they used to be. After the civil war, Igbos developed a siege mentality and conducted markets with makeshift materials as it happened during the war. The problem was compounded by complete lack of leadership in Igboland and the Federal Government's unrelenting policy to impoverish and destroy Igboland. Under these conditions, the eyesore we came to call Ochanja and many parts of Onitsha metamorphosed. Obiano is the only Tiger Governor that has dared to put things right. Infact, Obiano is the Only Governor of Anambra that has dared to demolish illegal structures no matter their owners. Other Anambra Governors either took bribes and forgot about the issue or they were too scared to confront the owners who were in many cases friends of their godfathers. It will not be easy to sanitize Onitsha and many parts of Anambra from the years of indiscriminate bastardization on the environment with illegal structures and street markets, but a constant and continuous effort to remove them will eventually teach people that it doesn't pay to just go under the bridge and build shanties and rent out to people as stores. |
DawatNama:That is why Obiano is doing something about urban renewal.I thank him for finally acting, unlike Peter Obi who said it too many times, but never took on the gargantuan task. Onitsha and Nnewi will not be easy task. Awka also started towing the bad example of Onitsha, but i think its easily fixable. Yes, Anambra cities need not just clearing of the streets of illegal squatter street traders, clearing of drains, street lights. The roads also need good sweeping, proper marking of the lanes and most importantly planting flowers and trees at strategic junctions and roundabouts. In places where it's possible to plant trees along the roads, it should be done. It will take A LOT of political will and effort to bring these cities back from their decadent level to the level of decent global cities.Yet, it can be done and must be done. But it can be done if the present activities are sustained and taken seriously by the government for a few years. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/09/anambra-begins-urban-renewal-project/ |
Stnomso:If we can get Onitsha to become a very conducive city for business and pleasure, we would have achieved 50% of the need to re-position SE as a principal investment and tourist destination. But the task will not be easy. Moreover, it requires being done with new strategies and not the old strategies of the past which failed. That is partly my reason for kicking against dumping gutter silt on the road. it was a method used for decades in the so called "Environmental Sanitation" which has failed to clean Nigeria nor clean the drains. Because everything scrapped out of the gutters all these years were simply washed back into the gutters by the subsequent rains. It's almost as though Africans merely do things to appear as though they are cleaning the environment, knowing all their effort will result in naught because no real effort was ever made to evacuate the dirt from those spots to a landfill. |
AuntLaVIV:That is my fervent prayer and hope. Let those of us in Onitsha and environs please track and report this continuously so that they don't abandon these trash on the street. In the future, we should begin a practice of bringing a trash truck so that the rubbish is directly dumped on the truck instead of using them to deface the road for a few weeks before a good Samaritan comes to evacuate them (IF WE ARE LUCKY) |
investnow2013:When dirty is brought out from the gutters and used to litter the streets, i don't know if its a good idea at all. I pray, and hope and plead that the rubbish brought out of these gutters be evacuated into a tipper and discharged somewhere else rather than left of the streets as eyesore. If the rains meet these rubbish on the street, it will disperse them and make the streets even more dirty and in the absence of street sweepers, they will finally end up in the gutters again. Thus, work done = zero We just need to BAN desilting gutters and putting the trash on the street because it is counter productive. I feel sad just watching evacuation of trash onto the street knowing that in their minds, that is the end of what they should be doing. They will NEVER return to evacuate the trash they put on the streets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWyXAa67xRc |
I have heard too many nonsense talk about how to build Dubai and Los Angeles in Southeast. Truth is that those talks are either deliberately deceitful, or folks don't know a thing about how great cities evolve. The foundation of every great city isn't necessarily building skyscrapers from day one, but adequately planning the city very well to ensure development occurs evenly and future developments can still occur without destroying the city. Roads and use of roundabouts at every road intersection is critical. Many new African and Asian cities already know this and build new areas of their cities with lots of roundabouts to compensate for lack of power to operate traffic lights as we see in American cities. The plan below should be adopted as a model for city expansion. By the way, this is Palmas which is the capital city of the state of Tocantins, Brazil. This is their city extension plan and you can see their generous use of roundabouts. This is how Southeast cities should plan new areas for expansion.
