@ bukatyne,

There is still racism here in the UK. It's more pronounced in some parts of the UK more than the others. Personally, I have received worse treatment from people from other tribes in Nigeria than people from other race. I do know however that that is not the case for everyone.

tearoses:
Racism is a topic that is really too deep to discuss
Its everywhere; even back home in Nigeria even though its a different flavour (tribalism)

Its more pronounced in the US because damage can be instant and permanent due to guns and we hear about it everyday

There is racism here too but its not as widely reported and seen in the US.

I tell my son to work hard as he may come accross subtle undertones of racism in his life here (its against the law to do it openly) but I told him that there will come a point where even the most racist wont be able to do anything because he will be so good at what he does.
In that same America I heard that there is a Nigerian Major General in the US marines.

If you ask me, the society owes half and the individual owes half too. We cant sit at home and cry racism. We need to get out there, go to school, better ourselves and work hard and be good at what we do. We also need to integrate and follow the rules wherever we find ourselves.

He has comprehension issues.

I've given up trying to reason with him on adult level a long time ago. You might wanna do that and save yourself stress too.

Someone who understands a comment that says you shouldn't beat a child for their natural curiosity about sex as meaning that you would as well practice porn with them is not reasoning on a level you might want to engage.

Richy4:
You really really need some growing up to do.
Stop acting holier than Pope himself. It is your type that preaches super holy and do the otherwise in secret.
And FYI I hated your type with passion.

Here is a kid who really needed information, and the best you can think is beat him up. Don't you know that education is the key? Besides how do you yourself learn about sex. And please don't even say it came naturally.

No wonder people say pastors kids are the worst sets of kids ever produced. Why wouldn't they say that when they have the likes of you putting on the holy robe and ready to pass judgment on a kid who doesn't know why his body is functioning the way it does. Knowing fully well that teenagers are in a confused stage in life and needed guidance.

And as for your comments about kids not being safe with me, I will simply let a low life judgemental person like you pass today because it was the first time you got into my space. And it was your first offence but Make sure it doesn't happen again.
Family › Re: Pls Discuss. Does Beating A Child Make Them Live Right? by cococandy(f): 12:15am On Aug 11, 2015
This has been put to test over the decades and confirmed that it doesn't work.
The failure is right before our eyes. Beating does nothing to make kids into better adults. If it did, we would have better adults than other parts of the world who don't beat their kids.

To me this discussion is moot. If one can't look around the society and see that beating has done nothing for us, what else can you tell them to convince them otherwise?
Family › Re: I Caught My 14-year-old Son Watching Porn.. by cococandy(f): 11:58pm On Aug 10, 2015
Exactly. Kids should feel like they can talk about sexual stuff (at least to an extent with their parents. I know it's not easy but it has to be done) instead of being made to feel dirty and ungodly for having such thoughts.

It makes them retract and do stuff in secret that will harm them.
Richy4:
Hahaha. Thanks. I don't really understand. They gave him a weapon which was laptop and then they expected him not to go for the kill.

If they wanna be an analogue parents, they should keep smart phones and laptops far from their kids and stick with the words of analogue days"you touch her she will be pregnant "

But since the world is moving so fast technologically, and many parents can afford smart phones and laptops they "parents" got a lot of work to do. They have to monitor what their kids do on social media, and what they watch and be prepared to explain and answer questions.
I feel sorry for the OP because with proper explanation, she would have won the kid over to confind in so many things but the beating has done the damage. I hope she reads this and tell the husband so that he can repair the damage by making him trust and confind in him with good explanation.

The worst thing that can happen to any parent is when their kids cannot confind in them with the fear of beating and tongue lashing etc

Hmm some people still have sense.

Phew. Relief that not everyone is dumb.
Richy4:
I can't believe the OP said she or he actually beat a teenager for watching porn? What kinda parenting is that?

Wasn't it the best time to talk about sex and explain things to him first hand? Must every thing be left in the hands of teachers. Shouldn't she be apologising to the boy on her part for not starting it early enough.

Don't you think God or nature or whatever you believe in blessed you with that kid to be a caretaker?

So as a caretaker if your roof is licking, the first thing you do is take a stick or hammer and hit it before fixing the problem?

Don't you think that your son was curious and really need to know about everything that revolves around him? And the best you can offer was beat him?

I thought moms and dads of this day are Y2K compliant. I never knew some still have very old and analogue mentality. Imagine her saying she raised him in Christian home. So Christians don't have sex....

Me just wondered where it was written be fruitful and replenish the earth.... if you as a parent cannot give him the guide lines on how to go about it, the mistake he's gonna make is doing press up.

Are you kidding us?
So you don't know this is when his interest in sex should be at its peak.
Does Christianity abhor interests in sexual affairs,

Madam what he needs now is guidance and direction not condemnation like his interest is abnormal. You will just push him to learn the negative bits from outside (which he's already doing from porn) probably because you never talked about it with him.

More alarming is their opinions on issues of rape. Ask any older male and they may remember it as an abominable act for which the perpetrator would pay dearly.
But these days, they consider common friendly visits as implicit agreement to sexual encounters.

Its obvious the older guys are not doing much to shape these younger boys into proper young men.
Some try I can attest to that. But they need to do more.

Romance section is filled with twisted young boys. It's appalling to imagine the kind of fathers they will make when they get to the age of settling down.

Onegai:
Thorpido you're in your 30s right? People of that era have a different mindset and were brought up differently (my brothers are of that age group), not all of them but there was a different mindset. My dad encouraged his sons and daughters to do their best. Decades later, I befriended a younger woman and her junior brother. One day, this much younger guy was flaring up at his older sister and one of his complaints was "she doesn't even cook for me and leave food for me. Is that how she will behave in her hubby's house? ". Meanwhile, they were in school together at that time and came home together and he expected her to drive him home (which she did), then enter the kitchen and make him a meal, he didn't feel to help her. And look around NL, majority of the male commenters are young unmarried men who keep denigrating women and advocating violence to solve issues. Older men were not like this, my FIL (in his 70s) says things have gotten worse.

Women older than me (their 60s) achieved more than all these girls shouting here. But it looks like we are sliding back, not forward.

I know suicide is extreme and not the solution in any case.

But imagining the horror of one's mother and her husband. She must have been overwhelmed.

I just pity her. That's why it's hard to blame her.
SAMBARRY:
is that why she should commit suicide. Can't she give them the disgrace of their lives undecided

she should have pulled the 2 of them out naked or call crowd on their head. Both ways she has lost her marriage and mother. Report him to his family and report her mother to every member of her family

But those men and people I spoke about are Nigerian men,No?

Because some comments like 'the only 2 sane men I have met among them are my brothers' are also people known to Onegai.Which I am not discounting.

I never said it was not happening as you see I agreed that there are sexist Nigerian men, I have experienced my own share of sexism from both Nigerian and Non Nigerian men.

My point was to say ALL( even Most) Nigerian men think their daughters are less than their sons, think their daughters will end up in the kitchen, beat and abuse their wives, is simply not true.

I think doing something is by highlighting the men who are not like that so that the next generation have role models to look up to. Simply saying all Nigerian men are sexist reinforces it as the norm.

I am not discounting other peoples experiences I am just highlighting the fact that those men being spoken about are not all what Nigerian men are or should be.

Same way I would call out Men who say ' all Nigerian girls are materialistic and will only marry made men' . there are Nigerian girls who are materialistic and will only marry made guys but I know Nigerian girls who are not and did not marry only made men so that makes that statement untrue.
@bold, you're right.

I think the exemplary male role models also need to speak up and let the younger ones know that's the right way to go.

We have older females all the time trying to mold younger ladies into line and proper behavior, yet these older men do nothing and watch the younger men go astray.
