DrLevi: Okay, thanks
Is it okay to get a client to open a gig on upwork for a hob that is already done but payment hasn't been made. Hope it isn't against any upwork rules?
Organic gigs from upwork is hard. 100% okay |

jackest1: I thought the shorter and more direct, the better. Well thanks boss, will see to it The shorter and more direct approach works if your profile has more exciting things to look at ( reviews and portfolios) but you only have one portfolio, so your profile description needs to do the talking for now until you get reviews. |

Thanks in advance

sEGXY2: I don't know if anyone is still here, I have some couple of questions and I'm hoping to get answers here.
1) The name I used to sign up on upwork is not my actual name. I understand that there will be routine ID checks. I have tried changing the name but it seems impossible. should I just create another account or there is a way to change names?
2) How do you identify a high demand niche on upwork?
3) is it advisable to Buy reviews at first??
codedboy95 qtguru You will have issues, if you can't change your name, create a new account 2) There are a lot of categories on upwork, just search one by one if you have the time or narrow down your search to niches you are interested in, see how many times client posts jobs in that niche. 3) no comment |

lazyDev: Drawing inspiration from Nairaland and Discord, I give you Discuscity ( https://discuscity.netlify.app ) a real time chat app...
Key Features: Real time messaging, Creation of topics and posts, Like and Dislike other user's posts, Admin can push to front page, Updating Personal Data, Viewing other user's profile, etc.
Technology Used: Front-end React JS, Backend Django Rest Framework, Socketio, React Hook Form, Material UI, Eventlet, etc.
URL: https://discuscity.netlify.app
username: test3
password: !15rfbDIIItg
PS: This is just a Side Project whose backend is hosted entirely on Heroku free tire. Hence, it's slow to load and anytime dynos are refreshed (less than 24 hours) all uploaded images are cleared (only user default profile will be available).
Your reviews and criticism are highly welcomed. Thanks so much for your time.... Not bad for a first project , instead of calling it nairaland clone, why not just call it a "discussion forum" ? Also it looks like you are leaning towards backend development ? your design really needs some help , atleast you are better than me, I can't even center a div. Keep it up |

tensazangetsu20: PHP just has more opportunities especially for beginners than Django. WordPress, Magento, Drupal, laravel, symphony etc and more all use PHP. personally, I won't advice a beginner to learn PHP, except they are looking to get a job really fast. I will say they should learn Javascript or python. Although PHP is a very good language. I have used it for 10 years but I am not very sure how relevant it will be in next 10 years. People don't really rate PHP devs |

Any reason why you discourage the guy from learning Django and told him to learn PHP instead? Because There are a lot of PHP jobs? |

"Undefined index: address" on line 567 of /home/xxxx/dashboard.xxxxx.com/modules/cms/classes/CodeParser.php(289) : eval()'d code This error is self-explanatory, make sure that the address index is set before trying to access it. Something like if(isset($array['address'])) { //it's set, access the value of address $address = $array['address'] ; } You can convert this to a one-liner using ternary operator |

If you are goal-oriented and really serious, please don't waste your time going to school, atleast not in Nigeria. I wasted almost 6 years in school studying an agric course and i regret it. now, I am doing pretty fine as a backend engineer and for all the jobs I have worked, I have never for once had to provide my degree. If you become very good and land a good job, you can study abroad and get a degree in two years. |

Programming › Re: I Want To Learn This by Codedboy95(m): 4:35pm On May 07, 2021 |
Karleb: That's one thing tho.
About Laravel, it's funny but Laravel developers are actually scare especially in Nigeria. Take this section for example, how many Laravel developers are here? Even on twitter, it's all Javascript and python.
I see Laravel as a platform in itself. They have an official job site lara-jobs that is more active than WordPress official job site. The documentation is one of the best around.
If anyone wants to learn Laravel, they should go ahead. It has a steep learning curve especially for absolute beginners though. laravel developer scarce ke? |

toby345: But why do people on nairaland don't talk about Solidity i read somewhere that it is also a good language since it is used for blockchain. I am not a programmer yet but I think this language is also a good one but I have seen very few Nigerians use this language but their pay is damn good Solidity is in my 'to learn' list this year, just like you said, the pay is really good. The reason you don't hear much about it in Nigeria is because most Nigerians jump on things late ( we prefer to jump on things that has already 'blown' than trying out things, but thanks crypto, blockchain development is getting really popular now), we do have some Blockchain devs in Nigeria but not very much. But i predict that in 2 - 3 years alot of people will jump on the train because the world is moving towards decentralized applications. |

wordsNOTswords: . There is still plugins for paystack like websites. Your answer should have been, web developer just choose to code for theirselves for bragging right purposes and probably because of the frequent update that comes when you decide to use plugins. If you are doing basic payment integration, then those plugin will be just okay, if you are doing something more complicated, you will need to build the plugin yourself. I am not a fan of reinventing the wheel, if a plugin doesn't have a particular feature i want, i will rather just fork the plug-in, add my edits to it. I will only do a complete re-write if the plugin isn't well written. But then i don't even do WordPress |

justli: You obviously haven't built anything since you don't have an appreciation for long hours of work. Developers spend hours sometimes days trying to fix a bug. It's an obsession, it keeps you awake. With a problem up in your head, you don't feel happy going to sleep. And finally you fix it, the joy is priceless and you feel accomplished.
That's the life of a developer, it's not a path for a lazy man. Wozniak didn't single handedly build a computer and code an OS from scratch just by working two hours a day. And if for any reason you see the hours you spend as some kind of suffering, then maybe this path isn't for you.
Lastly, I see a lot of people put the cart before the horse when they emphasize techpreneur and building a project you can commercialize as a beginner.
My suggestion: as a beginner, concentrate on really understanding your art: the art of coding. Learn it well to be able to get a good job in a tech company. Even if you are working on a project, which I highly recommend, let it be for the purpose of learning and boosting your profile. When you land a job, you'll learn what it takes to build and run a successful tech agency hands-on.
Anybody can code a profile matching platform like facebook, or a news forum like Nairaland but how many can run the business of facebook or Nairaland? Man, you talk too much, never assume what you don't know man. It's very wrong. If I tell you I need to reduce the hours I spend on my laptop screen, I have my reasons. Attached below 1) My freelance account on upwork 2) My contributions on github Does any of the two looks "beginner" to you ? ***Attachment removed*** |

justli: Why confuse people? What do you stand to gain? Did he tell you he is made? A young man is putting his sweat equity, learning discipline and getting technical problem solving dept, the type that comes from long hours of coding, and you are here talking about diminishing returns.
Go read the book, the outliers by Gladwel, and Mastery by Robert Greene, then you'll know the place of time in conquering an art and mastering it. Most people just learn html and css then run off the street as the latest "web developer". Tomorrow they will say no job Hi, if someone tells you not to work hard and you follow what the person says, then you are the cause of your own problem. He is not a toddler, that comment i made is my on view, i feel i have gotten to that stage where i need to spend lesser time on my screen. |

CSTRR: Coding is an investment in your future.
The more the hours you put in, the better you become.
I have a Friend that gets Jobs of 250-500k Evey month on average. I know when he started 3 years ago.
He recently passed Turing interview and is getting freelance jobs that is bigger than Yahoo Yahoo. 250k - 400k is like the basic salary for a mid level reactjs developer. Some people make more than 2m per month writing code. I know few here on nairaland that does. |
