coogar: if they don't qualify for the champions league, then blame the board for not releasing money? look at arsenal in the last 3 seasons, the board is now making money from transfer account. they sold nasri, van persie, adebayor, kolo toure, clichy, fabregas, alex song and they never replaced them back with the same quality. i can understand if the players just got fed up and asked to be sold - and the money made was then used to purchase equal quality. how's this trend going to be different if they sack wenger and replace him with del bosque? would del bosque buy quality players with his own personal money?Maybe I misunderstood you, I wasn't talking about sacking AW, I was talking about the overall philosophy of the club which I believe should be upheld by those in authority including AW. In any case what does AW feel about what is happening, its like he is destroying all he has built by remaining in a system that is selfish and antagonistic to the fans. To agrre to tell the fans of a FOOTBALL CLUB that CL qualification is like a trophy is an insult reasonable and unreasonable doubt and since AW is going along with it he take part of the blame. Can't he resign if he thinks its a bad policy? I guess he is getting paid so he doesn't really care. Its as if Arsenal is practicing modern slave trade, come and play for us so that the club keeps on making money, with little regard for the individual aspirations of the players who are supposedly playing for a supposed "TOP TEAM" that regularly qualifies for the big competion called CL and play with the big boys of europe. Imagine UNITED saying they would be satisfied with qualifying for CL and then sell of our top players season after season. |
coogar: arsenal fans are spoilt....So what happens when/if eventually Arsenal don't qualify for the money spinning champions league? I say this cause its getting tougher by the day, they managed to come 3rd last season by what many will describe as a result of the capitulation of spurs. Many taught they woludn't make the CL last year. Now Arsenal are just managed to move to 7th position from 10th a position they have never been b4 at this stage of the competition. The likes of spurs, everton and even westbrom who are acting like spoilers are not smiling as they seem ambitious, but the problem is not how determined these clubs are but how Arsenal are letting themselves down with their play and result, they don't seem like a team playing with any conviction. |
Schzeney, podolsky, Carzola, sagna, vermalaen, Ox, wilshere, gervinho, mertasacker all these guys played against the league 2 side and still lost after playing extra time. Where are the young guns that Arsene is known for when playing lower competitions or there is no diff btw first team and young developing players at Arsenal again. All the players and Arsene should hold there heads in shame. Maybe we can do business with wenger again in the summer. |
StarBoard: Exactly my point. The defence has majorly been the culprit don't know what is wrong with them. The truth is we can never really determine a season from the last one. We scored about 89 goals n conceded 33 came 2nd on goals diff, meaning if we had conceded less we coulda won the league, this is agreeing that a tally of 89 goals should be enough to win the league, but we may also score 100 goals more tha last season and concede 40 goals also more than last season and win the league. We just have to find a balance in the team. Its amazing how we almost always concede in every match but have shown character to outscore our opponents bar the games we lost. |
. |
StarBoard: Not sure all those names can do us much. Our midfield I'd doing ok and can do better if Fergie keeps selecting the right squad to play. TBH only Barca, Real and maybe Bayern can cause us problems if we both play to our strengths. Having Ozil, khadeira and Alonso 4 Real and Xavi, iniesta and Bousquet 4 barca is a tall order for any team. Energy and pace is an important requirement in todays game and if u add creativity then you will be a top team, most teams just have two of these qualities. We were the away team yesterday and played like we were at Home for long spells in the game and that's was due to the midfield, I dare say that nothing would have changed had it been either Fletcher or Anderson on the pitch yesterday we would have seen the same Zest in our game. |
Fletcher, Anderson, carrick, Cleverly, kagawa, Scholes and Giggs. I think these guys are doing ok as our midfielders. All we need to do is get rid of scholes and Giggs and buy a very creative player to play in the middle. The defence has been disappointing this term and don't know what kinda form Vidic will be in when he comes back. Will he be able to re-enact that formidable combo with Rio? They are both kinda getting old but have always held their own at the back when playing together. |
montelik: Its likely our strongest eleven at the moment, considering our injuries. I do worry about how we will cope physically. Tom C will be isolated against City big guys as Carrrick always sits deep with no mobility. We will need Rooney to justify his £250k wages.Exactly, T C and Carric will have to spread the ball to the wings to be able to neutalise City's play in the middle, also hope they don't try to hold the ball unnecessarily, Rooney will be key in this game cause he needs to support the midfield and also help in the attack. Am happy with line up. Where is Nani, is he injured or Fergie has made up his mind about him as per jan! |
BlueDiva: Torres scored, he even took a penalty.Yes oo he took a pen! Credit should be given to toress when he does what he is expected to do. He even scored from "general and specific markets" which is very encouraging. All he needs now is a little consistency then we might see the Torres we used to know and expect. |
debosky: Coded abeg leave Chelski yarns for the Chelski thread. You did not reach your conclusion on Arshavin based on y'terday's game? But based on the fact that he has been in the club since 2009. Am gonna assume your meaning of consistent means a stable improvement that is sustained. Now tell me - who or what has been consistent on the field in Arsenal since 2009? That you are basing your assessment of Arshavin's inconsistency from his performance since 2009. |
^^ chai see dodgement!! |
debosky: Arshavin played 45 minutes - what did he do? He had two clear chances to score and only hit the target once. Other times he was woeful in possession and didn't make right decisions. You can love Arshavin all you want, but he is not producing end-product consistently enough.Debo, could you kindly explain how one can marry this post with your support for Torres. Or is it that since its not your team you can support a player who is obviously not doing well and blame other players for his ineptitude. Arshvin got two chances and hit the target with one and you conclude that his end product is inconsistent. Does he play regularly like Torres, who would you expect to have had more chances talking about someone being consistent vis a vis number of games played. For someone who hit the target once out of two attempts, why not blame the other team mates for not playing the ball to Arshavin feet so that his 50% shot on goal might actually help the team. Pls don't tell me Torres is striker and Arshavin a winger, last time I checked if a full back makes himself available to score the ball should be passed to him talkless of a winger. |

dayokanu: Torres had a free header on goal and they said the chance wasnt clear enough. Its already about 12 hours since Torres scored his last league goalHe missed the free header because it was "general market" had it been "specific market" he might have hit the bar or something ![]() |
Am waiting for debo's indepth analysis of this game and arsenals position on the table, albeit with a positive slant. And them wan put clause for contract as per qualifying for CL. Music please! ![]() |
. |
where' the pary at ![]() Midtable champs. |
debosky: I agree they are - which is why you should be very careful in writing contracts in future as Arsenal are now doing. You can't complain that some players were given higher wages than deserved and then blame the club for being more prudent in negotiating future contracts.Did the players impose their wage bill on the club or was it negotiated. I just think what is being disseminated as being the reason to cut wage bill is wrong and puts the players on the edge. It also makes the players look bad and guilty when we all know that policies of the club has also contributed to the lack luster attitude and performance of the team. It is unfair for a supposedly top club to buy Gervinho and expect him to perform like Roberto Baggio. Why not just negotiate the wage bill and the clause would be that no bonuses if you don't qualify for CL instead of reducing my already negotiated wage. So what percentage will they negotiate the reduction to be if they fail to qualify for the CL? And Debo, the reason they gave for this reduction is the fear of not qualify for the CL. |
@ Debo Isn't it possible that Arsenal is paying too many mediocre players high wages than they deserve, hence the high wage bill and the fear of not qualifying for the champ league. Either way its like Arsenal are in tight corner. Will Arsene and the board also sign the performance contract? |
It haf teyed sef wey everybody except oga Torres don dey fvck up. |
I was disappointed with the scoreline against westham but was impressed with our play especially the crisp passing. Anderson and cleverly should be the first names on Fergie's team list for most of our games, they are young, energetic and ready to fight for the ball in the middle of the pack, they also drive forward and initiate attacks. I really thought we were gonna score more goals but somehow it did not happen. Thank God we got the 3points, I was impressed and encouraged. |
Concerning the pictorials trying to justify Torres' run, why use sturridge as an example of someone who should vindicate Torres. It is a known fact that sturridge is a selfish id1ot who finds it hard to do the simplest things. If the pictorials had shown any of MAZACAR in aposition to pass and did not then it it lays more credence to your position. Yes sturridge is a chelsea player who usually replaces Torres. When was the last time Anelka played for chelsea that we aare looking at examples from about 2years ago and using it to justify Torres' runs, Torres has lost a couple of yards since the likes of Anelka left an that's what is affecting MAZACAR now. The guy isn't making fast and intelligent runs again. |
nateevs: On the Torres argument, Coogar endeavours always, to make granular as well as pictorial and interactive analysis where possible. The default state of an intelligent mind is to review his analysis and discuss if they are right or wrong. Instead, it is met by dogmatic, beer-parlour like counter-arguments like "sebi he was bought for £50m", "before it was Malouda and Lampard" and sometimes you just wonder what the point is. You cannot help but conclude, each time Coogar makes a case, he makes sense. Why not also show us gifs of Nando running into space in anticipation of the ball and MAZACAR refused to pass, that would make more sense than showing us gifs from chicharito. We can't show u the gifs cos part of our argument is that the dud either runs away from the ball or is actually nowhere to be found, hence no gif like that. |
Hahahaha Torres general market/ specific market! LMAO |
The team also needs Torres' support!! Everybody must, I repeat must work for Torres, Torres does not have to work for anybody, not even himself in a sport regarded to be a team sport.SMH He can't even stand still and score like the beach ball that scored against Liverpool some seasons ago. |
@ coogar You can admit that mata could lose form and not perform as he is supposed to, that is, supply balls to torres right at his feet but would not want to admit that Torres himself has also lost his own blistering form as you so succinctly put it when describing Mata form. Even when Torres is with the ball he seems clumsy like clusty the clown, he probably needs to rest and do some soul searching to rediscovver his form again. Playing him day in day out will only increase the pressure on the guy. It is now believed that Torres gets games because of RA. Simples. Most other coaches would have dumped him like hot iron regrdless of his price tag. Note: Am not hEaping the dismal play of the team on Torres, just that, he is not helping himself and blaming everyone except torres just does not cut it. Team should not be playing for one person, last time a checked, football was a team sports. Everybody should work for every body. |
dayokanu: 40 take it easy on Dobo, He has certain limitationsHahahah Debo has been owned!!! He needs to lie down. |
coogar: torres didn't tag himself £50m....It was a simple question I asked, what's the worth of the coach and about 5 players ccompared with Torres? It has absolutely nothing to do with weather Abrahamovic tagged torres 50m or not. From your logic since all these players are not playing to torres' strength then they are the ones culpable, no? Its easier to change 5 personel in a team than changing one person who obviously can't adapt to these players, but feel that these players shud adapt to his style. If they buy Fabregas, would MAZACAR still play or it would now be FAMAZACAR? |
So what's the worth of MAZACAR, RDM, Mikel, Ramirez compared to torres? It seems chelsea would need to change all these players to accommodate torres' style of play. What will RB do now, since jan is still far and we don't even know if Roman is ready to spend, or which player would be available that can play to torres' strength. We will all be here to see how the spanish waiter will fair. I also wonder what Torres himself thinks about what is going on. |
Coogar was right afterall, everyone and I mean everyone must play to torres strenght regardless of if he decides to pick his nose in front of goal instead of shooting to decides to hide away from the ball instead of attacking it. Everyone, RDM, OSMAZAD, CECH, RA, fans, cleaners, Benitez, commentators, ref, fashola, GEJ, facrook, Ubah etc everybody!!!! |
How a 50m striker who is not injured would be kept on the bench in a crucial UCL game leaves a lot to be desired. Its either the coach does not know what he is doing or the said striker is a disgrace to the amount he was bought. 6or me Torres has not helped himself at all, arguements like the team needs to play to torres's strenght is rather weak, the question is the few times torres has been given the ball what did he do with it. The guy just can't re-enact the form that we all know him to be and its pathetic. Torres has failed woefully and to even suggest playing a false 9 in the game against juv is an indictment on his game. Even from set pieces we don't see torres attempting to head the ball or attack the ball as a striker should consistently do. Juv were far better yesternite, they passed the ball with more conviction and I think saying chelsea was two goals down b4 Torres came on is not the issue, Torres has been on the field for 90minutes and chelsea would still have lost the game. When players are not confident that if they give torres the ball he would do justice they tend to take irrational decisions, then playing a false 9 like they did against juv is also an experiment that backed fired all because a certain 50million pound striker has refused to hit form. At least during the days of drogba worst case scenerio is lob the ball upfront and let the one man army do justice, there is always a 50/50 chance something will haPpen, with Torres, there is no option. |
