Nigeria is not like other nations. Things don't work they way it operates in other places. Other nations have government supporting local businesses. Providing welfare for growth. Giving tax reliefs to growing companies etc.

That is not how it is here. Things are bad in this side. Remember Siasia feeding the Olympics team from his pocket until his credit card got stolen. Then Mikel, Ekong, and co. came in to help.

I remember Peterside Idah getting to the Nigerian camp in South Africa for CHAN when Oliseh was coach. He said the first thing he had to do was to contribute money for feeding because the boys were abandoned. Oliseh spend thousands of dollars feeding the team.

Due to this challenges, and keep in mind the central control of National resources in this country, we always have a system of using the national sources to help our football.

So serious national input should be made for scouting and exposure until we get things right.
From what you've written you already know that Nigeria can't get things on a national level so state governments, private individuals, private academies, private companies, local governments e.t.c are the ones that can help Nigerian sports.

Whatever that is happening behind the scene can go on but on the National level, there should be some sort of commitment. We need a sound program, support systems for grooming and exposing young players. It is in such state that external sponsors can key in.

Unfortunately, it is just eat, eat, eat going on.
All over the world players and athletes are groomed in local or private academies nothing is mostly done at the national level except for the creation of annual youth leagues and competitions.

More gifted I understand, that may be your preference but are they better in the position?

I think merit for each position should supercede whatever bias one may have.

The issues people are having with Rhor is because of his bias towards his players (if he is the actual person picking them) and you too it is okay to have your bias but where merit isn't considered even in bias, one tends to fail.
They are both midfielders so both of them have "merit" for the position which also means the Nigerian born players must be given "preferential treatment" over foreign born Nigerians.

It's the same way you'll give your own children preferential treatment over your brothers or sisters children.

On another note, I believe despite the growth of our players in Europe, I feel we are missing a gold mine because the current people running our football are lazy. They are just in the business to harness what they want.

I will give you an instance.

When Christian Chukwu was appointed coach of the Super Eagles, at a certain period he was on break, he carried out a screening camp for players in feeders of our local clubs.

He went about watching matches of feeder teams and collecting phone numbers of players he saw with potentials.

Then after drafted a list of players from them and invited them to a camp in Ogun State, at Otta to be exact.

One of the players from Sharks FC feeders then made the cut. He said the first thing Coach Christian Chukwu taught them was endurance.

He said he brought axes, machetes, shovels, rakes and other farm tools. Measured a large piece of land in something that looked like a forest and told them to carry out a bush clearing work. (It is football they came to play)

He said they worked all day for days, clearing bush, raking, with not much food to eat. He said after about a week plus, they were done. Well raked pitches, wide and fresh.

He said, they rested, and keep in mind, feeding was not easy. They were supporting themselves and the coach was doing his best too.

Then he gave them a thorough lesson in total-football. He said for days, they did more of theory than field work. They only did intense jogging every morning and then lessons.

By the time they were ready for the field, he says it was nothing like he had ever seen. He said, he learnt things he did not know about football like breaking defences with triangular passes, etc. He said you will pass ball until it became second nature of you. Pass and move.

He said, unfortunately, Christian Chukwu got sacked during their program and he believed if the coach had finished with them, they would have done wonders. The coach wanted to use them for one of the friendly games.

What I am pointing out is that, there is so much work to do in Nigerian football, but this current set have showed extreme laziness. No grassroot work, no grooming of future players. We just wait for players to break through in clubs or some foreign player to do well and pledge allegiance to us.

I hope we pick up from where we are and shoot for our potentials.
TheGoodJoe:

Wow. That would be interesting. A national camp sounds good. The thing is that, I don't think most of the guys running football are interested.
Camps don't have to be "national" and the guys running football don't have to be interested before private individuals or companies organize such camps and academies.

It's because of private academies in Nigeria that you seem not to know about that players like osimhen sadiq onyeka onuachu amoo ndidi iheanacho awoniyi Dennis uzoho e.t.c.. have been trained and groomed in Nigeria.

Its not rude to regard other people's opinions as nonsense if that opinion ends up putting them into an endless cycle of mediocrity because they won't know they are in mediocrity and people like you will continue to give them opinions on grace and hope instead of telling them the truth in a direct way and manner you'll tell them to look for synonyms like "just" in a bid to save your face..

My opinion is that we should find out what works for us and stick to it. Some persons believe in quantity and they are making a killing while some others believe in quality and they are equally making a killing.

Both route requires work, effort and patience.

Some others are still dabbling and struggling & havent found the one that works for them. Truth be told most of us here cant compete with Auctions and back order due to cash restraint (dollar palava) so we are left with the option of hand reg and ED.

The man who has 2-3 letter domain name or killer 4letter/2worded domain name might not want to agree with the concept of Grace.

Same with the man who has money to go for such names via auction.

Truth be told, where our strength fails us, we fall to what we believe in, hence Grace.
Most of the people on SH that have quantity also have quality in the quantity that they have.

I have only seen 1 person who has only 1 sale and 1 SH approved name out of over 600 names in his SH White Label marketplace..

So it has nothing to do with grace.

Depending on grace means promoting mediocrity and registering low quality domain names that won't sell but due to people like you who promote grace mentality people hope for sales of the low quality names they own..

Most who listens to your kind end up been disappointed because they will keep wondering why their names are not selling.

so yes with the above comment you definitely suggested portfolio size and quality don't matter...

In domaining, quality matters more than size.

the first image below the person has over 140 domain names and has sold only 4 domains worth over $294,000..

the second image below the person has only 2 domain names and has sold only 1 domain name worth over $105,000..

the third image is mine and I have over 120 domain names and sold only 2 domains worth over $3,000..

it has nothing to do with grace... In domaining quality is very important.

Quietmover, what people read or hear on the surface is what they understand If a person has "to Understand his context, the exaggeration used, figures of speech used" in everything someone says then that person is saying nonsense and shouldn't be encouraged to keep saying nonsense...

Lagos was part of Benin Empire, Benin handed Lagos over to the British directly in 1860.

Eko was no corruption of Oko, they do not mean the same thing at all and Eko means war camp in Benin. it was not borrowed at all, quarters with Idumu, Eko and others are colonial relics of Edo on lagos. Families like Obanikoro, Olotu Odibu are families that claim descent from Benin.

the foreigner wrote it in 1977 not in the 1800s..

you're quoting a foreigner ... you expect a foreigner to tell the correct history of people the foreigner has no connection with...

In the 1800s, the bri:tish was at war against the Yorubas in Lagos and one of the people fighting them was madame Tinubu, not the Oba of Bini or any Bini warrior..

Years after the death of Madame Tinubu, the foreigners branded her a slave trader in other to demonize her and her legacy....

There is no way any Oba or traditional king or queen in Lagos will accept anything from other Africans as long as it was not a form of trade and they will have to first honor Madame Tinubu before anyone else...

You don't understand the fact that the Bri:tish started the demonizing of Yorubas because of the wars they fought against the Yorubas and attitude the Yorubas had towards the Bri:tish was considered disrespectful by the british...

If Bini empire had influence in Lagos they would have lobbied the bri:tish to build the first school, first college, first hospital e.t.c. in Nigeria in the Bini Empire and also ensured that the Bini empire was the capital of Nigeria..

Don't let foreign revision of history deceive you because it massages your ego...

Yorubas have always had more population than the Binis so it will be foolish for the Binis to try to go to war against the Yorubas whether in pre-colonial times or 2021.

because we have no history with Kano, we might have with portharcourt but it is not so clear, but there are certainly migrant Edo population in rivers state ( degema and Engenni) they are Edoids group linguistically, and it is in their Orals they migrated from Benin.

Urhobo and Isoko are Edo groups by blood, linguistically and culturally, they share so much similarity with Bini than anyother group in Nigeria because that is what they are ( Edos by ancestry) They have a local name for Bini in their native tongue (Aka) where they migrated from. They are the ones preaching their descent from Bini not the other way round.

There has been some move to downplay Binis influence on precolonial lagos, up till 1850 Lagos paid tribute to the Oba of Benin that is why there is some reinforcement of Opinions on their part, up till the 19th century, Lagos was an integral part of Benin Empire
Lagos was part of present day Ogun state and part of the Oyo empire and it didn't exist as Lagos before the bri:tish and por:tuguese got there it was called Oko ( farm in Yoruba ) by the Yorubas which the Binis corrupted to Eko ( war camp ) because it was heavily guarded and militarized by the Yorubas..

it is foolish for you to try to revise history and link a part of Oyo empire with another totally different empire in Bini empire.. the binis have never had any influence in any part of the Oyo empire.. the binis only traded with the Yorubas.

Mr. Masari has a good political argument but a lame economics one!

If we take Democratic economies like India, USA etc for instance, you'll discover that a region like Goa decided to promote economically proactive policies when it became clear she had to compete with regions like Punjab and Central India or fall into the non-viable brackets of regions like Pradesh - note that they all have seaports!
The idea is that the economic less-viable states should rather be challenged to bring to the front burner their economic comparative advantages instead of complaining about being threatened (even as a consumer based economy)!

In Masari's Katsina for example, Sharp sand is in excessive abundance. Why can't he think of generating IGR by 'exporting' the commodity to a predominantly rocky Abuja for an economic exchange?

Utah does not begrudge Indianapolis for being a gateway to the US, nor does N.Dakota feel cheated by the prosperity of Florida simply because they operate within the same federation.
Each state look inward to bring up a competitive advantage...

That's what Wike meant by "putting on their thinking caps..." That's what Masari should be doing, and not arguing about being the "demand aide".

What happened to the Katsina Steel Rolling Mill under Masari? This complex is capable of triggering a multiplier effect of chain markets, but what we saw is that it has gone moribund!

So, Oga no one will lower the bar for you simply because you chose to be unproductive... Get in the ring and compete! That's what Democratic economics is all about!
he has no point...

There are advantages that lagos has (populations, ports) etc that it can use to its advantage. So also Katsina has some advantages (arable and vast Land for agriculture).

Every state must learn to use what it has in abundance to facilitate trade and business.

Therein lies the unity in diversity that we profess
