Femeto: This is the best team we can field at this time. We had over 65 players from across Europe and America in camp before it was trimmed down to 15. We haven't had a basketball league running in Nigeria for almost 2 years now. best team with bad performance is not the best team.. |

Danielnino00: We aren't a sporting country because our government aren't investing enough in sport... talent wise, not many countries in the world can match us... It's obvious from the number of athletes of Nigeria heritage representing other countries... If we left Nigerian football to the government players like chukwueze osimhen nacho onyeka onuachu amoo ndidi will have never existed because they're from private academies. The major problem is the other sports are not like football and basketball where agents can get annual commissions from players. I don't know if athletes have agents. |

Beancounter94: That was our best ever side.
We even did better than previous olympics...where we could lose by 20 point margins. Here, we were losing by ten points.(It is still a loss, but it is better than the past.)
My point, which you are missing because like most Nigerians you people fight over which tribe gets what....is that we don't have a good basketball structure like the countries we competed against in the olympics.
If we had a good structure, we would have been able to produce consentient results, and every tribe would have been able to produce teams of good players that would have done us proud whatever the selection, man know man or man no know man.
And the whole man know man thing happens elsewhere too in other countries.
But if we want a good Olympic team....WE have to pay for a good Olympic team...in money, exposure, recruitment, etc etc. We don't have a good enough basketball team because we don't have enough great basketball players, home and abroad. it;s sad.
So, the NBBF has to do what the US did to improve its standing in soccer....make basketball more popular in this country...so that every kid is playing even in the villages...and then take it from there.
Good am. this is our worst ever side... you don't know what you're saying... Nigeria won a game in the last olympics.. its like you have a pre-recorded single answer to everything which is why I quoted your comment in the first place.. basketball does not have to be popular for there to be local talents in Nigeria.... it doesn't matter if there are local talents in Nigeria if the coach only picks those playing in the U.S.... As per tribe issue, this team lost because the majority of players playing full games were I:gbos... If the coach had mixed them they will have won at least one game... A lot of I:gbos have a natural behavior to become over confident and complacent which is one of the reasons they're always losing towards the 4th quarter instead of seeing the game off. Also tribes have to be concerned about who gets what because the national team can boost the careers of the players in it.. |

Beancounter94: Yes i know, and at the end of the day they were not good enough...yes they play abroad...in countries that have enough of local talent to the point that they cannot play regularly.
Which is why we have to spend more on our sports...getting the kind of talent and expertise that we need to win things. Nope you don't know.... the point I'm trying to make is even if we have the kind of talent and expertise that we need to win things they won't be selected... because even you yourself just said "at the end of the day they were not good enough" how do you know they were not good enough if they haven't been given a chance in the team... |

Beancounter94: Then go vote for politicians who would ensure federal character...don't complain to me. Politicians aren't involved in team selection unless it's in the coach's contract. I'm not complaining I'm just letting you know that there are no local players in the basketball team so even if Nigeria has world class facilities they won't have been selected. |

Barryseal: Nigeria is not a sporting country. We are just pretenders, you can't claim to be a proud sporting nation and all you can boast of is a paltry all time record of 2gold medals at the Olympics. As it stands we are unlikely to add any medal of any color at this games. Just like we returned zero medals at the London Olympics. Our bloated egos won't let us admit the obvious. Nigeria is a sporting country... the problem is lack of infrastructure and yearly age grade competitions in other sports apart from football... If Parents A like having children and not sending them to school then when they are adults Parents A starts to complain that the children are not productive when the gov:t or private sector fails to provide jobs for unskilled workers due to lack of infrastructure. or Parents B have children and send them to school then when they are adults they can't get jobs and Parents B starts to complain that the children are not productive when the gov:t or private sector fails to provide jobs for skilled workers due to lack of infrastructure.. Sports is a Job and most athletes start before they are 12 years old and have sponsors and sports academies that supports them from when they were 12 years old till they retire... Messi joined a football club when he was 4 years old... how many Nigerians have their 4 years olds in sporting clubs or academies and how many academies are even available for them |

Beancounter94: Yeah, this is the best we got...and we came up against countries with much better sides than we have.
The thing is, we need a side that can produce consistently good results...not one off results against the US, consistent results...and you do that by building up a critical mass of homebased basketball talent, good structures from youth to adult, enough expertise in the game in coaches and trainers and reserchers.
We lost because our best was not good enough. Time to go home and do things to make basketball more popular and better funded, and have more people playing so that we have a glut of talent to choose from.
Have fun peeing. Even if Nigeria builds good structures and has local talents those local talents will not be chosen and the team selection will be the same thing you are seeing. So you're saying rubbish. |

Either the government ( both FG and state ) or private sector invests in infrastructure for this other sports and holds age grade competitions/leagues at least twice a year that will last for at least 4 weeks then don't expect such talents to be harnessed because a lot of Nigerian athletes sponsor themselves. Another method is private companies can sponsor those already sponsoring themselves to encourage them. I'm saying private companies because both State and FG may not pay them on time or at all. |

Africa kingdoms conquer kingdoms like the benin empire, ottoman empire, oyo empire etc this kindgoms upon conquering neighbouring kindgoms take up loots and slaves and later trade them with the merchants for some European products like matches, guns etc
Wish i can give u literatures written by Africa scholars though many can be found in JSTOR,PANGRAVE etc The books are written by authors who were influenced and most likely sponsored by e:uropeans... humility33: So slave trade didnt occur in west africa how about Liberia, Gold coast and Nigeria
You need visit free town in Sierra Leone and calabar to see the chains and route the slaves were transported
You refuting those literatures shows how well u detest facts and truths
Will have to create a thread for this so we can both learn on this - If you are African you will know Africans are tribal.. It is impossible for an African in that era to capture another person from the same ethnic nation as himself/herself and "sell" the person... - Any person can build chains and routes and claim so and so happened.. - its not facts and truths, its rubbish. - there's no need to create a thread... euro:peans were not as rich as Africans in that era, so there's no means of payment that could have enticed any African to sell their fellow tribesmens/tribeswomen, nothing was "shacking" Africans in that era, Africans had and still have all the gold, diamonds, luxuries of the world e.t.c. If an African committed a crime.. that criminal will be killed that same day because it was forbidden to kill another person.. the education eu:ropeans gave us limits our knowledge to their documents and books, that's one of the reasons I said you do not have the intelligence to understand because once I say something your brain will automatically seek out an euro:pean research or document to discredit me... Anytime someone says something you don't agree with your brain is groomed to automatically seek out europ:ean information on that topic.. |

humility33: Bro, the black americans migrated during the trans Atlantic slave trade era wise u read up the british Britannica for this info even JW awake magazines will help alot
There were two types of colonialism pursued the first was in the 16-17the century aimed at pursuing a more white settled economy and the other of 19-20th century aim at european economy expansion The first witnessed the migration of Europeans to new foundland like in new Zealand and austrialia, US,Canada etc for example new Zealand was originally owned by the maoris even the north africa many historians believed have whites due to the euorpeans that were captured as slaves about a 1000 by the arabs during the 15th century
The only countries in africa the Europeanz later choose settle where some of southern africa countries, senegal and algeria by France. The algerians greatly resisted
Saying that the USA originally belong to the blacks is simply out of context even the whites knows that red indians owns america lets leave this as sports. you're opening a door that you don't have the intelligence to understand where and what it leads to... I don't care what you've read because it does not tally with what's in reality... - transatlantic slavery never happened don't mind the "point of no return" locations its just to validate the history of slavery. - If slavery happened in Africa it did not happen in west Africa because west Africans were fighting the eur:opeans until the early 1900s.. - during the 16-17th century black americans were already enslaved.. - the first colonialism and slavery in Africa happened to north Africans over 1000 years ago through european-arabs people, its the descendants of enslaved north Africans that are behind terro:rism in Africa.. just because they wrote the history books does not make it true... |

U are wrong to say white americans dont like picking people that are of black america descent

timay: Fighting for our independence from the British was the best thing our founding fathers did and despite their numerous mistakes after that , I still feel they did the right thing.
Personally, I believe we were not suppose to get it right after independence, we will make mistakes and we will learn from it and get better. In the past, a coup would have happened after buhari shenanigans because past governments that weee overthrown didn't even do up to buhari but as a country, we lived through many coups to see that it doesn't work and we've learnt even the worse Democracy is better than the best military government.
If this country exists after buhari, I can assure you that we will learn from it as well and put more checks that will prevent a future Buhari type of government in future.
Also, we've lived through a civil war and we've learned our lesson from it that it's never a solution, despite the fact that there is enough reason for another civil war to happen today, but every same Nigeria no matter their ethnicity knows it is never a way.
It took America over a century to get their democracy straight, It took the British far more than that. Considering the age of most African countries, they are still toddlers learning to walk compared to Europeans that are seen as developed. We will get there too. we were getting it right after independence, but the fact that one person ( Azikiwe ) from one major ethnic nation ( the Igbo ) was eager to subjugate all other ethnic nations ruined everything.. Just because he did not know how to keep his focus on the eastern region, the bad thing is the eastern region was about to experience serious economic boom due to oil that will have ensured the eastern region rapid infrastructural developments.. U:S used slavery, Bri:tain used and still uses wealth from its former colonies to ensure it stays developed, France takes at least $500 billion yearly from its former colon:ies to sustain itself. so you're right.. but there's not another reason for a ci:vil war unless you want northern politicians to bring military regime back which is what they are trying to do with the help of the br:its and which will ensure complete subjugation of southern Nigeria like the br:its always wanted.. Remember it because southern Nigeria had excess revenue they joined it with northern Nigeria in 1914... if the br:its liked southern Nigerians they would have spent the excess revenue on housing, roads, schools, training centers. e.t.c. that's the point I'm trying to make. |

In as much as it could have been another apartheid had it been the english choose settle in west africa i dont agree wit the fact that it would have been like south africa western africa countries like gold coast and nigerians were just too intelligent to be managed like the way the british managed south africa....
Mind you Nigerians and Ghanians possesses one of the smartest folks in the early 1900s, this men were exposed, intelligent and were outspoken o forsee a situation where both race Caucasians and blacks would have coexist peacefully and make so much progress
The average black south african can't matcb nigerians in intelligence and output. I see the white subjugation of black south africans as psychological and mental motivated. humility33: Lol... somehow it appears the presence of the Caucasians in large numbers in countries somehow help in that country development
I cant wrap my head if there exist any country in the world that is like 95% blacks populated and it is developed even outside africa countries like haiti is languishing in poverty, corruption and under development
The time the british managed nigeria prior they start leave in droves Nigeria was way better and progressive in development than it is now, the railway system, kano...makurdi,enugu and others were functioning, there was stable electricity and education was greatly encouraged but ever since the Nigerians took full control it has been serious drawbacks that the country keep drifting backwards though we can as well blame the military juntas but not forget the corruption, electoral malpractice and tribal politics of the first republic prompted the military intervention and also the shehu shagari government according to amilca cabral has no equals in corruption as at then and that necessitated his overthrown
I do believe had it been the whites(british) stayed back like they did in south africa Nigeria would have been better developed i understand unlike in South africa, west africa was not habitable to the whites so much reason for the tag "west africa the white man's grave" the tropical climate and the infestation of malaria really ended many lives of the british..southern Africa was seen as a place they can settle and so they choose stay back even though they obviously denied the blacks access to basis essentials likeeducation etal and the dehumanization and others but notwithstanding their presence helps alot in the country infrastructural development and the likes It would have been worse than South Africa. You're only saying this because west Africans especially southern Nigerians were always prepared to attack the Bri:tish if the Brit:ish attacked them. And southern Nigerians of that era empowered each other. When the Brit:ish left Nigeria there was no University in Nigeria. before the br:itish left Nigeria, the Br:itish did not build one university, our number of primary and secondary schools were very low, br:itish did not build smooth roads all over Nigeria , no housing estates, no plans for clean water for communities, majority of the private companies where owned by the br:itish and they only gave Nigerians clerical work which is what the education system they gave us is meant to produce office assistants. All the developments you see in Nigeria today from Abuja to lagos to calabar to Akwa-ibom to oyo to Enugu e.t.c are all built by Nigerians, our parents, our grand parents e.t.c the br:itish left Nigeria to rot. Everything you had and have the privilege of enjoying in Nigeria was and is through the hardwork of parents, grand parents, and other Nigerians. |

chrisooblog: The point is the Apartheid government performed mostly for the population that they were meant for the minority whites. However the majority black government led by the ANC has yet to adequately address the concerns of the majority black population. Blacks still form part of the majority of poor people in south africa. How many black south africans run the major corporate businesses in south africa? Is land equitably distributed to black farmers? Considering that the ANC is in control of most levers of political power they ought to have done more. This is a sports thread leave politics out of it. Black south Africans have the higher population so there will always be more poor black south Africans than whytes same way there are more rich black south Africans than whytes but the population statistics will not agree. For example: If there are 5 million Whyte people and out of that only 3.5 million are rich that's 70% while if there are 20 million black south Africans and out of that only 11.5 million are rich that's 55%. So when the media is telling you the figures they'll say 70% whytes are rich while only 55% blacks are rich but if you look at the figures you'll notice that the amount of rich black south Africans is triple that of whytes. |

This stuff has happened before on a name I submitted (EvoCart//king). After approving, told me there is a problem with it when I wanted to publish. Went to whois, saw that it wasn't registered. I checked a few weeks later and saw that the name had been registered, but backdated to 2012 or '11

There is big interest for the continent of Africa which our fore grand grand fathers were intelligent enough to acquire. There were Africans on all continents... the first invasion of Africa was started by the Ara:b-Euro:peans through north Africa that's one of the reasons their population is half euro half arab and small black Africans... if europeans had invaded west Africa first then west Africa will look just like north Africa and southern Africa... long before the invasion of Africa, West Africans had already migrated to several parts of the world... No one was shipped out of Africa, Africa is where most of the natural resources are why would they ship out millions of abled-bodied men, women and children when they ( europeans ) could have turned them to slaves on the continent... don't let the so called "points of no return" locations deceive you... those locations are meant to support the story of slave trade just like Egypt is suppose to support the story of the Is:raelis when in reality Is:rael was created in the 1940s - 1950s... |

LutanFyah: Let's assume that what you said is correct, what is African scientists and countries doing to develop their own vaccines to avoid the things you listed there?
Malaria has been killing Africans for hundreds of years and we did nothing serious to stop it,but immediately an European steps in to help us,we begin to pull out some conspiracy theories. Nigerian pharmaceutical companies created medicine tablets. Malaria started killing Africans due to open drainages and stagnant unsanitized water . It has not been killing Africans for hundreds of years. |

NOGRUDGES: Malaria was wiped out from Europe a long time ago. How was it done? No open drainages. |

palsenator: I love the last statement... The company in question is a private firm set out to make profit and it doesn't mean everything is still good with them... I think they are not been fed with the truth.. There was a round of polio vaccines that were sent to the north some years back. These vaccines aside handling polio which was the original purpose will also turn a man sterile and unable to reproduce forever thereby limiting the population systemically. We should just stop being stupid to think the west and eastern Europe love us like that. We are a burden to the world.. African leaders need to find a way to stem these growth. It's crazy.
They brought HIV which to them has no cure to deter is from reproduction and we believe it truly has no cure but when COVID-19 started killing them, within six month they could find a vaccine.
Years back, there were some free condoms that were to be distributed in Africa that were already infected with the virus but African leaders once paid, will keep quiet. Alot is going underground. palsenator: Just stop being unreasonable. We offer nothing to the world except burdens. Technologically we are backward, leadership is zero despite being blessed natural. We are nothing but spoilt children of nature.
Our population keeps increasing geometrically and you think even If the west does not caution us, nature won't? Either we control our population or nature will do it in a harder. The West is still busy with diplomacies on our population especially in the sub Sahara but when nature sets in to control the population, it will be too late if we are Just being unnecessarily reproducing.
Back to the nonsense you are saying, maybe you should take a time through history to find a time the Russian government was planning to use biology weapon on Africa in order to drastically reduce the population. Anyone that says "wipe off" is being stupid but reducing it will definitely happen in the future. Bluntemperor: A very BIG and a good question! It is not because we love Foreign things but because we love to Steal all those Money in Dollars! Go and check all the Institutional Supports like Bill Gates, etc Mallaria Projects,as we thought the White Man how to adapt to our Systemic Corruption, they too decided to play along since we are not Committed to it. • No Research to bequeath our home grown Scientists. • The Politicians at helm of affairs play politics with our developmental goals since they have own agenda, different from the People's goals and aspirations.Just imagine that all the arms of government ( Executives, Legislatures and even Judiciary )are now involved in dismal performance of Nigeria and Africa tanted growth. Many Doctors,Pharmacists etc, have decided to just observed as things fall apart, since the days of Ramsome Kuti,as a Physician! Just imagine, going to Dubai, London,Paris and Miami in USA is now a way of life to those ruling us! Politicians have no idea how to move Nigeria forward but will tell you that Nigerians should sacrifice more! Too Shameful! most African countries are under indirect rule which means that the former c:olonialists are the ones who choose most or all of the presidents on the continent. so they won't perform as you expect and most of them are not intelligent enough to perform better. the point of this vac:cine is to create a stronger "variant" of malaria that will lead to the deaths of millions of Africans... |
