Maybe you need to first understand the Distributable Pool Account (DPA) worked out at the London Constitutional Conference of 1957 & the Raisman-Tress Commision. The sources of Federal Revenue, etc.

You also need to first properly understand why the 1962 census cancelled by Balewa govt angered AG/Awo & Eastern Region, when the 1963 census (re-instating inflated Northern population) was adopted by NPC. And the constitutional crisis that ensued.

If the Fed didn't have massive revenues/developmental projects to distribute based on population figures (aside parliamentary seats), why the so much ado about it, if revenues really mostly stayed in the regions? It is all a myth.

Midwest Region with a healthy revenue from Rubber, Cocoa & Timber had to grudgingly/diplomatically accept 1963 population figures, despite strongly protesting it initially. Why? Officially to maintain peace/national unity. Actually reason was serious threat from Fed govt to punish just over a year old new Region by withdrawing funds, projects; essentially cause crisis there.

Centralisation stealthily began long ago & fed has been powerful economically/financially "it has tey". It was only formalised by Ironsi.

Cocoa house in ibadan was completed in 1972. Which means the SW had loads of income and resources then.

My point is, we haven't seen pictures of the north, SE and SS before 1960 but we have seen the pics of SW countless times.

We can see that even before 1960. The SW was very conducive and a good place to live and it was the yorubas that built and developed it.

If not for tinubu's foolishness by partnering with the north. The SW could have focused on itself and developed very quickly.

Lagos has the highest IGR in Nigeria. As of today, the SW does not need Nigeria for it to develop and it never needed Nigeria.

North had groundnut, SW cocoa, SE/SS had some coca, rubber & oil palm.

In fact all of Southern Nigeria had fairly similar things to offer. Oil palm or rubber wasn't scarce in SW either.

But no doubt federal income contributed to Lagos growth as National capital. Even though Lagos has been booming since 1860s already.

I think it was more about discipline & foresight of Awo and followers in the SW generally. Until Awo-Akintola stand off came about.

there was no federal income then.... regions contributed to the center Lagos was already developed before it was made the capital of Nigeria. groundnut didn't do anything for the north, the east was quite developed but their resources didn't boost it....

All the regions were relying on the SW cocoa, palm oil e.t.c. the east just had to be patient because oil boom was about to happen.... but they messed things up for themselves and the whole south.

Cocoa gotten from the SW developed the SW and still fed Nigeria.... not Nigeria's wealth..

The only option now is for the south (SW, SE and SS) to join forces and fight for our lives even if it amounts to the disintegration of this country which obviously is not working

There are Yorubas from other states who live and work in Lagos and during Xmas they go to their grand parents states and spend Xmas with them. Many Igbo don't even go to their states during Xmas. all Schools vacate during Xmas especially universities.

They didn't fail in 1967. It was a big master plan to make sure a minority tribe does not get as strong as the major tribes. 1967 was a success.

Lagos has always been developed. It was an agricultural hub before the British came and destroyed it by making it an urban area.

Nigerians and voodoo statistics. In 2006, Lagos' population was 8 million plus, today they tell us it is 21 million. Kano's population in the same 2006 was around 9 million, today they're saying it is 20 million. Even the population of the whole country that was 140 million in 2006 is now being put at 170 million. Haba!
