My point that africa was doing relatively well even with their "devilish" religion before the arrival of external influence.
It wasn't devilish. The foreigners studied how Africans worshipped and wrote in their 'holy' books that it was a crime to worship objects.

People of the same tribe have always fought each other.

Even in the Benin kingdom, some of the towns in Edo state were formed by people who fled from the Oba . (When they felt oppressed).

Throughout history, brothers have fought brothers for power.
You're contradicting yourself, the article says they were peaceful and didn't have doors, that means they never fought each other. In your bid to defend and promote your religion you're talking from two sides of your mouth.

Brothers never fought each other. It was western and Arab religion that caused it. Africans had serious respect for morals and traditions.

There were great Muslim empires in Africa that had great literacy, organization and military strength.
Examples are:
The Mali empire,
The Songhai Empire

The problem was not religion as you are trying to claim.
Religion was a problem cos it turned people of the same tribe against each other. African countries did well with their own traditional religion.

You cannot find any trace of Yoruba in core Beninland, the Yoruba's always call on the Benin for military support ask Ogendegbe of Ekiti Parapo it was the benin soldiers among them that renders the invading Ibadan army useless and they never dare any Benin land.

Religion nada comon kid grow up! What religion? There was NOTHING like Yoruba when BEnin Empire existed and Oyo was a garrison of criminals who were slave raiders hence the reason for the Kiriji war. Tell me one town outside the Yoruba speaking region was conquered by Oyo?

Kids with no knowledge of their history trying to disrespect the tribe who made them.

We gave you Oduduwa, we united you all with our support of the Kiriji war without Benin there is no Yoruba!
Yorubas existed long before the benin kingdom

Well planned, peaceful and crime free.
All of these before the arrival of christianity and islam.
Yes, but by 1897 there was already christianity and islam.

Try and imagine the extent the Benin empire stretched. I guess you are using todays Benin to gauge your view of that large and mighty Ancient Kingdom..It stretched all the way to present day Ogun state so that wall is part of the Ancient Benin Kingdom.
It never stretched to ogun or any other part of yoruba territory.

The two tribes worked with each other so there is high possibility of using the same architecture and methods to build.

Sungbo Eredo use to be part of the benin empire.
It was never part of the benin empire. Ogun has always been yoruba territory but the yorubas and binis used eko (lagos) as a trade, farming and shipment center.

Funny thing is we 9ja people of today prefer to dismiss things recorded by eye witness of the time as lies.

Tribalism & bigotry doesn't help either.

The destruction of heritage all over 9ja make us look like a people without any history of achievement prior to oyinbo.

It has massive psychological impact on us.

African say things like "I hate being black, we contribute nothing to the world, what have we Africans ever invented?", etc.
It was destroyed by the same oyinbos.

Ehen! Where're those Yoruba Obas (lemme not mention their names) that insist the Benin Kingdom is an offshoot of the Yoruba? Come and see that the Benin empire is far older than what you guys claim oh
The yorubas worked with them.. Its this 21st weird obas that are suffering from superiority and inferiority complex

It should not be site anywhere in the south and it shouldn't be considered in the first place.

We have coal,
We have vast natural gas,
We have water (hydro),

If we are serious as a country, why can't we generate enough power from these three sources.
Now we are talking of nuclear power plant when we can't even maintain hydro power plant. Hope we are not thinking of setting another time bomb in this country. Boko haram are still in operation.
Not in support of this because we are not ready as a country to manage nuclear plant though it is one of the best form of power generation.
All the resources u mentioned can't be found in the north... So it will not be considered.

Only southerners can develop those things but the fg will looks for ways to sabotage it or make sure it favors the north.
PoliticsRe: FG Targets 4,000MW From Nuclear Energy by codemaniacs: 8:56am On Mar 17, 2016
Kenchukky:
Do we even understand the consequences of Nuclear power generation. We cannot manage small safety issues in Nigeria and we want to venture into nuclear energy. The hazard from sourcing, use and waste management is something we are presently not capable of handling. Do a check of the developed countries who use this as source of energy and see incidents that have happened in the past and see if we have the capacity to manage such incidents. Ordinary flood was a herculean task no talk of nuclear disaster. The coal in Enugu can generate energy enough to serve the entire country. I just pity the state where the nuclear plants would be sited. they can site them in Borno or Ogun
enugu coal will never be utilised by the fg because its in the SE. only the igbos can use it. the moment the igbos start trying to build it the fg would look for ways to sabotage it.

groundnut and cotton are not grown in central nigeria. The are grown in north east and north west go and checkout facts before you post rubbish
there were cotton trees in my school in lagos. its only groundnut they had in abundance in the past not today. cocoa house was built in 1972 in ibadan from proceeds gotten from cocoa.

what did the proceeds from groundnut build that u can point to till date. abuja was built with proceeds from the south crude oil.

People calling the north parasites while in reality the very foundation of this country was built by money generated from the north and the south West. Was it oil money that built the railways, the refineries, the highways of the past. If we are talking about stealing oil who are the ones stealing your oil is it not u bunkering your own oil ,busting pipelines causing oil spillage, kidnapping oil workers or is it still northerners doing that for you.
The oil producing region is home to some of the laziest people on earth all they know how to do is drink ogogoro and cause trouble.
central nigeria used to be part of southern protectorate. the north never contributed anything.

the yorubas work and develop their land... after the SS and SE oil its lagos, then ogun and oyo that sustains Nigeria. you should read the story of usman dan fodio you'll know the north will never allow any southern go peacefully...

usman dan fodio or one of the northern leaders allegedly claimed that he had dream that a day will come when northerners will need passports and other identification to come to the south... till date every northern leader has that same fear.

In spite of all the aforementioned, you didn't address the main reasons for the argument which are
1. Do southerners think the North offers nothing in the country Nigeria.

2. Do southerners believe the North cannot survive without the oil.

Answer is a candid Yes to both questions.

Truth is that school of thought is very flawed.

1. The North provides the majority of food consumed in the south which means they are contributing agriculturally at the very least.

2. History shows Nigeria's economy thrived better when the country was dependent on agriculture and it wasn't until the oil boom that the Nigerian govt started running on *oil money* simply because it's easy money so to speak.

You have to understand that if oil dries up this instant, the North will not collapse and neither will the south but the south will have a harder time dealing with it and would need a major overhaul to put in place structures to generate income from other largely ignored sources.

About having a one Nigeria after such event is a whole other can of worms.
the north does not contribute anything... they don't have land for agriculture... Benue and other central Nigerian states are not in the north. it is called north central because of political reasons, they were part of southern Nigeria when Nigeria consisted of north and south protectorates..

Like I said large scale commercial agriculture. An average southerner prefers building or selling hi piece of land instead of going into agricuture. And besides most youth in the south go into agriculture cos of lack of "whit-collar" jobs, I stand to be corrected.
I know southerners that have large scale farms and have over 20,000 chickens for sale of eggs and chickens.

just because u don't know doesn't mean southerners don't have large scale farms.

Without prejudice to th original post, I beg to differ. The southern part of Nigeria which includes the south west, south south and south east are capable enough to produce food in commercial commodity but most don't want to go into agriculture. And to say the southerners are dependent on the north is just how Sen. Ben sees it. The south has more fertile soil for large scale commercial farming and can even survive without food supply from the north but can the north survive without the oil from the south?
check nairaland agriculture section.. there are many youths that are into farming in southern Nigeria... Most are already into agriculture.... northern labor is cheap.. so some southerners use northerners to sell their agric products.

of course grin Mind you I am not from the north but I am currently at the north central! Beleive me, in terms of food, I dont see how these people will depend on the south! They farm here all year round and the people of the south are already becoming very lazy, they do not really farm in the south again!
North central is not the north... it is only referred to north for northern political gain... it is meant to be called central Nigeria.... when Nigeria was northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria.. the place they call north central was part of southern Nigeria..

Without the discovery of oil, Nigeria would have been a very poor country like Niger and Mali, Cocoa was never a major source of Nigeria income, in the 60's the major source of Nigeria income is from Groundnut and Cotton from the North, Coal mining in Enugu and Palm oil from the East, Cocoa from the Mid West and West. The major contributor then was Cotton, Coal mining in Enugu and Tin mining in Jos.
EasternActivist is right... Cocoa was the major source of income... even today, after crude oil its cocoa... Palm produce is also abundant in the SW.. there is place named Palm Groove in Lagos.... It used to consist of palm trees and other farming activities before the influx of people ruined Lagos farming activities.
