persius555: All these is cock and bull story. Allow as many players into the fencing sector and allow free market economy take shape.
This dangote celebration is just another means of economically pinning down the growth of Nigeria. it took Dangote some 7 years to build his so expect him to have a strong monopoly of petroleum products for same number of years. It isnt as easy as allowing others join Dangote. As it stands now, time is needed and a lot could go wrong. What I expected a serious govt to have done was to heavily partner with Dangote and aim for 50% stake in that refinery. That way, they get to share forex inflow, profit and other benefits. That should have been done when Dangote was getting cheap forex. All we have now are weak emotion based suggestions that Dangote should make his product and forex cheap. Sad. |

Jogs1900: The subsidy must go. If you are close to the border, you will know that it's Nigeria that subsidizes fuel consumed in neighboring countries. Most times, the smugglers buy the fuel in Nigeria at the subsidized price of #l65/ltr and smuggle it to Chad, Niger, Benin, Togo, and even as far as Ghana.
How can they say we consume 60 million liters of fuel daily? Let it go and the money used to subsidize other critical areas like health, education, electricity, etc. same borders that was manned effectively against food inflow from neighbouring countries or another one? Please come up with something better to justify a wicked and insensitive policy of a govt looking to avoid fighting corruption. |

Benekkk: The eighth wonder of the world if it’s true. The existing refineries are the biggest scam of the 21st century. All the yahoo boys in the world put together are learners where NNPC and Nigeria’s “Refineries” - (so called) are concerned. Trillions of dollars spent on a colossal white elephant and yet more to come. Ride on G’s! Even Ajaokuta “steel” will be jealous! This is just a promise to allow the removal of subsidy scale through. Nothing more. One Dangote start refining, another excuse.will originate and suppress any hopes this news raises. |

omohayek: Again, all of this is utterly irrelevant. The economic analysis is what matters here, not who voted for whom. It's notable that you have nothing whatsoever to say about said economics, and how they would differ under any other government. Would Atiku or Obi have abolished the laws of supply and demand? If you have nothing to say about the economic realities at hand, all you're doing is spewing bile over the electoral defeat of your preferred candidate. so you know about supply and demand and how they influence prices but you are quick to blame Emefiele for weakened naira when he has no direct control over the supply or demand of forex and by extension Naira value. |

nairalanda1: I could lie, and say that subsidy is OK...but ten years of reading about it has only left me horrified.
Subsidy is like having an addiciton to sugary stuff. You won't see the effects today, but you will see them years down the line.
Easy. Subsidy means that the refineries basically operate at a loss...which means they do not have enough profit to produce fuel right.
No profit....means government has to send them money....which means that sabotage and corruption result.
We have had subsidy since the 1970's when we had 2 working refineries...and now we do not have any working ones. Tells me a lot.
By contrast, GSM works because at the end, they make enough profit to make it work. No subsidy.
(If you want to see how subsidising everything can wreck an economy...see the old USSR and most of its satellites.).
The kind that ruins its refineries by forcing them to operate at a loss in the name of subsidy.
Remove the profit motive, and a distortion in the economy results.
I did not know I had so much power over a country. Wow. You are liar. Refinery sell at profit to govt who sell to masses at a loss. It is the same thing but you rearranged it to suit your mischievous argument. GSM isnt subaidized.so stop comparing apples to oranges. Plus airtime isnt desirable for smugglers. |

Seun: I suggested that govt should license at least 50 companies to import petrol in spite of the existence of the Dangote refinery because I don't want Dangote to have a monopoly on petrol in Nigeria. I want Dangote & importers to compete on price. Competition is very important. instead of this, N75k salary for 10,000 personnel to man borders and infiltrate smugglers comes to N10B/annum. That's like what subsidy thieves stand to make in a day. |

Isn it possible the FG employ 10,000 to man the borders and constantly infiltrate the smuggling cartel to foil their operations? Paying 10,000 people N75,000 a month. That's N750 million a month and N10 billion a year. It is far better than claiming smugglers are smuggling so much and incurring billions of losses a day. |
