The idea of refining our own crude oil will: 1. Provide jobs for citizens 2 save us foreign exchange
But it isn't going to reduce the price of petrol to less than what we currently pay unless of course the crude oil is sold at a far cheaper rate or even given free to the refineries, which is a kind of subsidy on its own. |
Politics › Re: Gov Fashola Ignorantly Seeks A Cut In Petrol Pump Price by Collynzo9: 9:49pm On Dec 07, 2014 |
Abagworo: There has never been subsidy. It is simply a scam used in stealing. We do not consume as much fuel as claimed by FG. Let a new government enter and all this truth will be revealed.
Why cant the refineries be built in Nigeria and subsidy payed in Naira to indegenous owners? Without subsidy you will be buying petrol at N300 per litre minimum. Refining here in Nigeria wouldn't even change much unless the crude oil is subsidized before selling to the refineries. The likes of Quatar, Venezuela etc subsidize even the crude oil they refine in their countries, that is why their citizens get them cheap. |

Why do Nigerian journalist like misleading titles? Don't insult journalists because of a paid liar called abisidiqu. He isn't a journalist in any way. |

The East-West Road that runs through Jonathan's home state is nonexistent. Stop lying to people,Jonathan is not supposed to be president. It was a woeful error. Let's make it clear in 2015.
Treat Jonathan's mess-ups.No other way. East west road non-existent? When last did you pass through it? You don't have to tell blatant lies in order to sell your candidate |

doctokwus: [s]Y not mass transit wt modern buses as in brt or lagbus in Lagos. The cost of this taxi will likely make it affordable only to d middle class, aside d fact it can only take a maximum of 4 passengers at a time. I long for a situation where comfortable buses wud b available to take passengers from one of d 3 major cities of Onitsha/awka/nnewi to each oda via transit thru smaller towns;and to see dem ply even at nite. This nite schedule say up to 9pm wud open up these places to more commerce, job opportunities and social life for the people[/s] This is absolute trash. Taxis have an advantage over buses in the sense that they take less time to fill up and move. Since when did taxis become an exclusive preserve of the middle class? Taxis all over the world move at night, so I have no idea what you are on about, it is even clearly written in the article that they will be available 24 hours. Some of you just criticise for the sake of it. |

I think the answer to Fashola's question lies in the fact that the FG has decided to drastically cut the amount spent on subsidy. I was explaining that to people in the thread below that the cut in amount spent on subsidy won't result in an increase in prices of petroleum products as they feared. www.nairaland.com/2007926/president-seeks-cut-fuel-subsidies |

jmaine: Thank you . . . . . . . . Bros in any case, the price is still supposed to drop because the naira did not fall as much as the price of crude oil. However, I believe what will drop is the amount spent in subsidizing those products rather than the price of the products. |

Immediately after the Kano mosque bombing, text messages began to circulate.People are saying, ‘the North should not forgive Murtala Nyako, Shehu Shema, Sule Lamido and Isa Yuguda’, they listed four governors for supporting President Goodluck Jonathan to be president in 2011. So they only realised this after a mosque was bombed? This kind of attitude and mentality is what brought about the rise of boko haram. The monster they created and nurtured is now attacking them. |

Politics › Flashback: 300 Killed As Muslimc Christian Riot Rage On In Kano (1991) by Collynzo9(op): 8:27am On Dec 06, 2014 |
Na mbu ka o bidoro Muslims pursued their hunt for Christians today in religious rioting in the northern city of Kano, witnesses said. Thousands of people reportedly besieged police stations to seek protection. The Government said 8 people had been killed since the rioting began on Monday, but an unconfirmed report in one newspaper said 300 had died. Another newspaper reported that witnesses had seen about 20 bodies. President Ibrahim Babangida cut short his visit to Zimbabwe for the meeting of Commonwealth nations to return to Lagos tonight. He said some press accounts of casualties were exaggerated. Protest Over Christian Meeting Government troops have failed to contain the violence, which began when thousands of Muslims took to the streets to protest the granting of police permission for a Christian revival meeting. The revival meeting was scheduled for today but apparently was canceled. It was planned by the Rev. Reinhard Bonnke, a German preacher whose missions are popular in Africa. A group from Nashville, Tenn., that was to have taken part in the revival reportedly left Kano, the United States Embassy said. The Americans -- including the Rev. Don Finto, minister of Belmont Church, and John J. Hooker, a former candidate for the United States Senate -- were said to be in Lagos today awaiting a flight home. Muslims were angered because a few weeks earlier the police denied a permit for a South African imam to go to Kano, an Islamic stronghold in the Muslim- dominated north of this West African nation. Deadly clashes between Muslim and Christian zealots are frequent in the north of Nigeria, which is Africa's most populous nation, with a population estimated at 100 million to 120 million. Muslims are believed to out number Christians, but the question is so sensitive that a national census will not ask people to identify their religion. Three previous attempts to conduct a census were abandoned because of religious and ethnic manipulation of the counts. Much of the violence was centered on Kano's Sabongari neighborhood, which has a large population of Christians. Mr. Bonnke was reported to be safe at a house in Sabongari, which residents blockaded with burning tires and vehicles to keep attackers out. www.nytimes.com/1991/10/17/world/at-least-8-dead-in-nigerian-city-as-muslim-christian-riots-go-on.html |
