CrimeHerdsman Attacks Ondo Woman In Her Farm by comos(op): 11:05am On Feb 05, 2018
Akure—A 28-year-old mother of two, Florence Godday, escaped death by the whiskers in Igbo Abo community in Akure North area of Ondo State, as a herdsman attacked her with a machete and attempted to rape her in her farm.

Narrating her ordeal to newsmen, Florence said she was working on her farm alone, when she suddenly noticed that a herdsman was on her farm.According to her, “I decided to fetch some firewood after working on my cassava farm, when I suddenly noticed the herdsman and decided to leave immediately for fear of possible attack. “I greeted him and he replied. I sought his assistance in putting the firewood on my head and he obliged. But before I could thank him, he attacked me with his cutlass and cut me on the head. “Before I could question him or know what was happening, he gagged me, tore my clothes and I raised alarm. “He took to his heels after he noticed that my noise had attracted other farmers around. He ran away with his blood-stained clothes. “I managed to get to the nearest community, where I was given clothes to wear. I was too tired and weak to walk again, because I had lost so much blood. “But they helped me to the nearest hospital where I was treated. “I can’t really explain the motive behind the attack by the herdsman. But he removed all my clothes after he had cut me.”

Her husband A good Samaritan in the community, according to her “contacted my husband, Thomas Godday, who is a member of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, and the incident was reported at the Police station.” Also speaking with newsmen, the husband, Godday, from Delta State, said he mobilised his members to comb the area and also reported the case to the head of Fulani in the area. Godday said the suspect was arrested and handed over to the Police with his blood-soaked clothes, but expressed shock and disappointment over the release of the suspect. Godday, who is a commercial driver, called for justice, insisting that the matter should not be swept under the carpet.

Why we released him- Police Command
the Police imagemaker, Femi Joseph, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that he had been granted bail while investigation continues on the matter.

Politics80 Cameroonian Paramilitary Police Officers Invade Cross River Community by comos(op): 3:30pm On Jan 30, 2018
At least more than 80 Cameroonian gendarmes late Monday night crossed the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon and invaded Danare, in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The gendarmes, according to sources, claimed that they were fighting Cameroon militants who took refuge in the community.

There are well over 5,000 Cameroonian refugees seeking asylum in Danare 1 and 2 communities following the unrest in the southern part of Cameroon.

Cameroonian gendarmes from Bodam community had, in October 2017, invaded Danare, killing two farmers.

The PUNCH learnt that gendarmes from Cameroon had also, in December, abducted five persons from Danare on the claims that they were suspected youths involved in the fight for the creation of Ambazonia.

A group of Danare indigenes, led by a former councillor in the Boki LGA, Mr. Douglas Ogar, who spoke with journalists in Calabar on Tuesday, said the gendarmes stormed their village at about 2am on Monday and started shooting.

A lot of residents, according to him, had to scamper for safety.

He said, “Our people did not sleep on Monday because gendarmes from Cameroon invaded our community claiming to be looking for Ambazonia militants.

“The militants, who have since taken refuge in the surrounding forests, were also shooting and the whole community was in chaos.

“It is important to recall the sad invasion of Danare communities by the Cameroonian soldiers, which first started on January 25 where more than 80 well armed Cameroonian soldiers with various range of military weapons and arms crossed the international boundary in the Danare-Daddi/Danare-Bodam international border openings and abducted five natives.

“By the time they left on Monday morning, they said their mission was to warn residents of Danare communities to be aware of their return to carry out a military raid which, according to them, is intended to cleanse Danare communities of all Ambazonia refugees’ threat to the Cameroon Government.

“We feel disappointed with the way the Nigerian Government has handled this.

“As I speak, we are living in fear. I am sure they have come to take surveillance and they have seen that the community is porous.”

He lamented that the gendarmes had threatened to come back to Danare to execute the proscription of Southern Cameroonians taking asylum in Danare as a result of the ongoing Anbazonia crises, which resulted in the mass influx of refugees.

“This is a calculated offensive from Cameroon military on Nigeria. They have shown outright defiance to supremacy of Nigerian territorial sovereignty and blighted the consequences of crossing the international boundary to carrying out all sort of intimidation and harassment on already alarmed citizens of Danare, with warnings of their further assault,” he said.

When contacted, the Cross River State Security Adviser, Mr. Jude Ngaji said the matter was being handled at the highest level of government in the country.

Ngaji said, “The issue has gone beyond the Police and the Nigerian Army has just deployed a battalion to the area.

“No Nigerian has been killed and as you know, this is an international issue which is being handled at the highest level of government.”

PoliticsJos Youths Foil DSS’ Attempt To Arrest Preacher by comos(op): 8:20am On Jan 17, 2018
There was apprehension in Jos on Tuesday as youths numbering over 100 resisted the arrest of a radical pastor and the General Overseer of the Evangelical Outreach Ministries international, Prophet Isa El-Buba, `by operatives of the Department of State Services.

Northern City News learnt that the DSS allegedly accused the cleric of delivering an inciting sermon in which he challenged Christians to use their voter cards to vote out “wickedness in government.”

The incident, which happened on Kassim Ibrahim Street in Jos city centre, threw the neighbourhood into a panic when the DSS operatives in their large number moved to arrest the cleric.

When journalists visited the church, the incident was being discussed in hushed tones by the Assistant Pastors, while clerics from other churches visited to solidarise with El-Buba over the incident.

The security agents were said to have laid siege to the church till 11.30pm on Monday, but were prevented from arresting the cleric by the youths.

El-Buba, in an interview with journalists, confirmed the aborted arrest.

The cleric insisted that the killings going on in Nigeria must stop; and that all Nigerians must rise up to ensure that it stops.

He said, “What transpired was that the DSS (operatives) invaded my house and my church premises and wanted to have me on Monday night. They came in their number, including a Deputy Director to arrest me in connection with the cross-over night (New Year Eve) broadcast I made to Nigerians.

“I stand by my words. I am neither scared nor intimidated by their invasion. Why should I be scared when I am saying the truth? Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin brings reproach. I said in my broadcast that the unrighteousness in Nigeria will not do any one of us any good and I stand by it.

“This is because our generation and generations yet unborn will suffer if we refuse to do the right thing. Nigeria is a great nation, but we must uphold righteousness to be able to stand among great nations. So, I have just said that the right thing should be done in our nation, and I do not have anything against anyone.”

The development has drawn wide condemnation from human rights activists and other observers who believe that the cleric’s rights to freedom of expression were being trampled upon by the DSS.
