The Evangelical Church Winning All has alleged that higher institutions in the North have been denying Christians admissions into professional courses while Christians have also been denied employment on account of their religion.

These were part of the 10-point observations made by ECWA and contained in a communiqué signed by its President, Dr. Jeremiah Gado, and the General Secretary, Rev. Yunusa Nmadu, after its five-day Pastors International Conference, held at Bingham University, in New Karu, Nasarawa State.

The church also accused the federal and nothern state governments of orchestrating retrogressive plots against Christianity through deliberate denials of candidates of Christian extraction admission into professional courses in tertiary institutions, especially universities.

ECWA stated, “We have noticed with great dismay the negative happenings in our country, especially the northern part of this country. It is the issue of admission into universities and other tertiary institutions, whereby qualified candidates are refused entry on the basis of their faith especially into professional courses.

Ogun State yesterday became the latest in the country to record another attack by herdsmen.

Three herders, who attempted to graze their cattle on a farm in Oke Odo, Ketu Local Council Development Area, were confronted by the owner, Ige Orisade. Infuriated by the challenge, the herdsmen allegedly assaulted the victim, who sustained serious injuries.

The commander, Vigilante Service of Ogun State (VSO), Mr. Soji Ganzallo, said: “The herdsmen have been attacking our farmers. Most times, they invade farms and destroy crops, leading to skirmishes between them and the farmers. The attacks on our people are always serious.

“They even attack farmers at night. They have also been involved in armed robbery. Even women that go to their farms are raped. Sometimes, they kill them.”

The Miyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association could not be reached for comments, as the telephone line of its secretary, Mr. Aminu, was switched off.

The Court of Appeal, Ado Ekiti, on Monday stayed the execution of the judgement of the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, recognising the Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe-led South-West zonal executive of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The appellate court also stayed the execution of the judgement restraining Dr. Eddy Olafeso-led South-West Zonal exco of the PDP from functioning.

Ogundipe is leading a group loyal to the ousted PDP National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, while Olafeso is leading another group recognised by Makarfi.

Ogundipe’s group has the support of the senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, while Olafeso’s group has the backing of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.
