I was thinking the group is for educating the existing and new joiners in the e hailing business. Some of us also are reading to learn, but I seem to observe that answers don't come quickly to those who seek it here.

Rather the gurus in the business prefer to showcase their success and banter each other. You guys should teach the want to join the rudiments of e hailing, the already new joiners who re seeking on how to succeed teach them also.

If he responds that yes indeed he had changed the transmission fluid before but doesn’t remember the exact type used then it’s imperative that you change it out yourself for the right type of fluid. The correct transmission fluid is Honda genuine ATF-DW1.

If during/after you using the black cover mobil 2000 5w30 and you didn’t notice any abnormal shortening of oil (oil going below the lower dot on the dipstick before driving 1000 miles) or a smoking tailpipe you should continue using any good brand oil with the 5w30 weight.

I finally got the naija used, V4 2012 Accord.

When I asked the previous owner what type of engine oil was used to service the car to enable me to continue to use the same engine oil type, he replied that he didn't know because it was his former driver who normally took the car for servicing.

Please advise on the best way forward.

For a vehicle owner to delegate the servicing of his vehicle to his driver it invariably means that the cheapest of the cheap parts and fluids were being used.

If you are sure that he had never changed his transmission fluid before then leave it be. Use style to ask so he tells you the truth. You should know if the right fluid was used in the transmission if it was ever replaced at all.

For the engine oil it’s common sense to believe that the mechanic wouldn’t shell out N35k for mobil 1 to service his oga’s vehicle when there is mobil XHP of N11k in the market nearby.

If I were you I’d use the black cover mobil 2000 5w30 first and watch the engine oil dipstick for any signs of oil shortage and watch the tailpipe closely too for any smoking or oily discharge. If you find any symptoms of such then you’d know that it was the usual blue cover mobil XHP 20w50 that was used all along in the engine and revert accordingly.

If you want something new, vote for someone who has never been in power at all or someone who has not been in power in recent years. Among the 3 leading candidates, Peter Obi is even the one that was still in power recently. He was still a governor as recently as 2014 and he was an adviser to Jonathan up till 2015. So, how is he anything new or a departure from the old norm? While I won’t call any one a fool for their political choices, I think it takes a level of crass senselessness for anyone to actually believe a former governor that failed woefully is a messiah and a departure from the norm. Funny enough, Tinubu and Atiku have not being in power since 2007. They represent something new far more than Peter Obi.

Now is the time you need a scan. When next the light starts blinking try to take the vehicle to someone who can scan it and bring out the transmission fault codes for you to see. That is the only move you have to make right now to pinpoint your issue properly.

I don’t think it’s the mud that’s causing it. If you truly change brake pads every 4 months then I believe you have a very serious issue with a component of your brake system or you buy very cheaply made brake pads.

I service my jeep every 3 months and the recommended oil for my model is SAE 5w20. I also change my brake pad every 4 months due to my environment.

What type of environment would require you to change your brake pads so often?

My 08 accord vibrates a bit when accelerating. Took it to a mech, he said ball joints need changing; bought the pair. After changing on the driver side, he said the passenger side is still okay. Did alignment thereafter but still notice the vibration.

Next place to check will be your CV joints aka Shafts. Left and right side.

Honda Accord especially with oil maintenance reminder will never let you enjoy those benefits of 5000, 7000 or 10,000 miles/km b4 oil change. Infact, the ones I know are just for 3000km and the oil life percent hits 0. Next thing is negative counting. I deliberately watched the negative counting in a DC got to almost -500% b4 I could change it. (I was topping oil cos it was consuming oil)

So if u buy the most expensive high mileage engine oil with approved rating, once it gets to 0%, u mind won't be at rest. But in other cars, u are sure of getting a good mileage.

All those pre 2011 Honda accords had their oil life monitoring set at a rather FIXED count (mainly determined by mileage, idle time) mostly because those vehicle’s engines didn’t specify the use of synthetic oil so the ECU is factory programmed to calculate its change interval as if you’re using conventional oil in your engine. Some vehicles of that era even allowed you the user to program how many miles you want to drive before the maintenance light comes up.

The newer accords that specify the use of synthetic oil have a rather DYNAMIC range for their oil life counter because they take data from more sensors in the ecu (ie. Heat, outside temperature, stop/starts, idle time etc.)

If I was using a vehicle with the earlier versions of the oil life monitoring and the light came on at 3000 miles, I’d reset the minder and continue using my oil and filter till the right mileage or time for a change arrives but only if the oil is synthetic

Oil is usually changed on a TIME or MILEAGE basis. Some cars now come with oil life monitors which the users are supposed to follow. It is a rule of thumb that frequent ’short trippers’ like yourself need to change your oil more frequently than those who drive for longer or further hence your oil life getting to 0% when you’ve not driven far enough.

For conventional oil you either use it for 3000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first and for synthetic oil you either use it for 5000 miles or not longer than a year whichever comes first

After I put my fingers into the tail pipe and rubbed it in between my fingers it felt dry and not oily.

Then the engine seems fine. Inspect other areas of the vehicle as well.

During a routine check of the car, I stuck my finger in the silencer and discovered a small black substance inside . However, black smoke does not appear to come out of the silencer when I press the throttle. Everything else appears to be fine.

Erm . . . Are you sure the pictures you posted was from the same vehicle?

If it felt dry then it’s okay and very normal as it’s just the byproduct of internal combustion BUT if it felt oily then it means the vehicle either has a bad PCV valve or it is burning oil.

From the look of things that engine’s combustion process seems sound to me. If you decide to purchase it then make sure you continue to use the same engine oil type that the previous owner uses.
