alutacontinua: I think this thread just started. *adjusts my sitting position*your bütt should be sore by now with the number of times you have adjusted your sitting position on this section. ![]() |
StarBoard: Bros, show us the evidence - show us the evidence..... |
ileobatojo: Amen!shut up abegi & stop your tunnel vision. if the society is not rigid, why is the traditional wedding still important in every tribe in nigeria? why should a groom buy rams & goats for inlaws or drink palm wine from a calabash in 2013? the hypocrisy is nigerian women like yourself don't see anything wrong with such practises(after all, the men are the ones getting pinched).......but when it comes to endurance in marriage, you quickly apply what obtained in kim kardashian's marriage to salawatu abeni's case..... you are worse than a hypocrite.... |
StarBoard: Horse dung doesn't even know what a ribbing is.do you have any evidence that supports the claims that elampiro makes alarmingly stüpid remarks? |
StarBoard: debosky, debosky would say anything against van persie. he was expecting van persie to flop with united but the dutchman keeps disappointing debosky..... see what iroha said about the siasia/yekini saga(the pass that never came) in 93.... “During our own time, Westerhof would reduce most of the superstars to ground zero and make sure you work your way back into the team,” Iroha, who once played for Vitesse of Holland said. |
Ujujoan: You don't 'hang' around in a hotel lobby . . . no hotel will allow such!i hung around the best hotels in nigeria dressed in shorts & t-shirt. no one has ever asked me to leave. when dem no chop craze? if you have never experienced discrimination in nigeria as a single woman, i can accept that. however, to say discrimination does not exist against single women in nigeria is being economical with the truth. Most hotels don't allow that . . . . You can tell the receptionists you are waiting on someone and they will usher you into the Bar to wait . . . Only a bush woman will hand around a hotel lobby for an hour!it doesn't matter what a single woman does in these hotels. the general perception is that any woman lingering around the hotel is a slüt looking to hook a man. |
Ujujoan: Lol . . . the same Sheraton Hotel where I stay most times I visit Abj abi?this is probably a lie too..... I'm glad you brought this issue to light - i happen to be a single lady of 27 who lives in the UK- every xmas i come home and I had arranged to meet my old school friends in a hotel on the island in lagos just to chat and catch up on life- I happened to be on time and forgot that nigerians are never on time - i got a lift from my cousins to the hotel and was waiting at the lobby - I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED IN ALL MY LIFE - the way the manager spoke to me was totally unacceptable and APPALLING - I was so upset my eyes watered - I work very very hard at least 6 days a week in IT - to afford nice things - i have earned my money -i like to dress well - not slutty but well - for myself - it makes me happy - the guy assumed I was some sort of ashewo or runs girl - it is not right to tar everyone with the same brush - but the stupid guys who were coming to hit on me with no shame did not get embarrassed or walked out of the premises - anyways this is part of the long list of reasons why as much as i love nigeria it becomes very hard to live there mehhnn anyways I held my head up high checked my purse still had my money and waka comot - their ignorance their loss - stüpid man - i took solace in the fact that i can probably pay the mofo's salary three times over with just the money i had in my purse LOL |
Nashville: Sorry I am a married man ok. First of all, I know several single ladies with high profile careers travelling at will and having hotels booked for them without even leaving their offices.that's not the point..... even a dog can have hotel rooms booked, the crux is what happens when she turns up at that hotel by herself? does she face discrimination or not? But to go back to your point, so a woman should rather die in an abusive marriage because she may not be able to go to a hotel by herself abi?. Very soon you will bring out another thread that says single ladies cannot open bank accounts without a man!we are not going back to my point that quick.....let's clear up the issue of your city life first before going back to my point. this discrimination happened at the abuja sheraton not a dinghy hotel in okokomaiko axis of lagos so this is for real!!! Ujujoan: Lol . . . the same Sheraton Hotel where I stay most times I visit Abj abi?how do we know for sure you visited that same hotel or you went there alone. I can't believe you people are even arguing single women aren't discriminated against in nigeria. are you guys living in a parallel universe? I have NEVER for one day been turned away from Sheraton just because I was single . . . NEVER!were you a single woman when you visited? if you weren't, no need to muddle up the waters. |
Nashville: Completely agree. He must live in some cave with internet access. Completely unbelievable. People see single ladies as prostitutes... i cant even laugh!https://www.nairaland.com/709508/single-ladies-discriminated-against-hotels i am 100% sure this article was also penned by a caveman with an internet access. like i said, i am done debating with people like you. http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/lounge/78516-woman-complains-single-lady-discrimination-sheraton-hotel-abuja.html it's funny how caveman coogar know more than city girl nashville. |
kadman: It's the same Coogar who said so. The brother lives in a timewrap and keeps saying that this is not the West.TIA = this is africa! Well Coogar most people here live in Nigeria and are saying it's not as you say it is. Are you living in your own world mate? I spent 25 years in Nigeria (including the village) and didn't see all this stigmatisation to single / seperated women.most people living in nigeria would not say the truth. it's part of the culture. even the ones who get battered everyday would tell you how happy their marriage is. you got a lot to learn if you are kowtowing popular opinion especially where nigerian marriages are concerned. |
Nashville: Bros, we are talking about adults and not kids. I do not except a fully group man to act like a 11 yr old ok.so a husband that was insulted by his wife cannot be provoked to physically demolish her? you must be living in a parallel universe. Second it seems we really come from different societies. Someone here was talking about how people view single ladies as prostitutes. Who still has that view in 2013. May be we should create a villagers section in Nairaland so that people with those views can start their own threads and comment!that's what they all say in public. we are no longer villagers, nigeria is now a civilised society and reh reh reh. i am over debating with people who come online to talk a good game. it's a waste of time. |
kadman: I think Coogar still lives in 1913, when people fetched water at rivers and knew everyones name in the village e.t.c (I'm sure even then women were going back to their parents home).ask the ladies in nigeria that are honest....they would tell you the society pretty much dictates most things.... Is it these days when you get back from your bank job at 9pm half asleep and don't know the name of the people even living in your building?everywhere 2-3 nigerians gather, cheap gossip exists there. you forget these women also go to church. how would they keep up the lie that they have a beautiful marriage? siddon there - the same nigeria where women buy cars for themselves and run to facebook that her husband bought it just to appeal to the romantics....... As I said the only stigma I can think of isn't society but religious ties (either religion).it's the society..... no one wants to be associated with failure especially those ones that did a societal wedding. they would do everything to keep the abuse undercover. |
mbulela: my chairman, i know say you be chairman but this one i no go gree with you o!words can make people commit suicide o....many kids would tell you they would rather take the cane than to be tongue/lashed. words can erode one's confidence to the extent of feeling totally worthless...... kadman: Yes, I'm aware of that. Are you also aware some landlords won't rent out house to single MEN. Their reasoning being their life isn't stable as of yet, a landlord might prefer a family to take a place as they would live in the house longer making it less hassle.all the man needs is to lower his age & he's good to go. of course, english people love the family man but we are talking about nigeria here. divorcees are not haunted in england..... So now have we established that this can happen to men AND women.not in nigeria, i am afraid..... men are free to live their life as they deem fit. |

Ujujoan:and you don't think a child seeing her mother with different boyfriends can be affected? should a mother be concerned about her sëxual gratification at the expense of raising her kids the proper way? Do you even read through what you post?i didn't read it - you know i am ray charles. ![]() And yes, if a man is being abused, he needs to leave for the sake of his sanity . . . Of course I doubt that a woman will be able to 'beat' a 9-month pregnant man!here we go again.... even uju thinks physical abuse is the only form of marital abuse. it's so tedious debating with you. words hurt more than slaps & blows. |
kadman: No it's actually not! Thoughts like this is what keeps women in abusive homes till their death. I know several women who left abusive relationships or marriages where another woman was brought in - as far back as 50 years ago. I haven't heard of them being ridiculed. Could it be that it's actually you who judge these women and you mask your opinion as "society".they made the decision to leave - they would be hesitant to tell you the abuses and gossips they get to hear about themselves. the nigerian society is judgemental.....some husbands would not even let their wives associate with a divorcee. hell, some mothers tell their married daughters not to keep friends with divorcees...it's that bad! I do know some parents force their daughters into unhappy marriages and then force them to stay in it. I've noticed this is mostly to do with religion especially when said parents are senior member of churches.well.....that's because they stayed when things were tough and these parents somehow believe their own children should be able to cope with the pressure as well. the abused mothers that stayed did it for their kids and most of them are reaping the benefits now...... |
Ujujoan: So you want her kids to grow up to becomes abusers and abusee's in the futureif she leaves, her kids would be worse off....they would also grow up watching different men bouncing in & out of their mother's bed. which is worse? steph7: kids or no kids, a woman should leave an abusive spouse immediately. some of these grown men learn this from watching their mothers stay with their abusive fathers and grow up thinking it is right. The smart kids that know it is wrong may end being scarred for life especially the females. Coogar come back to Nigeria, these things happen in broad daylight, men beating their pregnant wives, its not all nollywood.should a man leave an abusive wife too? abandon the wife & kids in the house and go start afresh? jennykadry: I saw a thread where someone asked of traditional marriages must be done in the village? Quite a good question, we can call it culture or give it whatever name but the truth is, people do it to please societythe society dictates everything we do in nigeria otherwise why the need to please umuadas in a traditional marriage? my girlfriend's people want 5 apple laptops - i doubt there's internet in their village. ![]() |
bukatyne: I am from Mars and stay in Jupiter Lol!everything in nigeria is about the society. 80% of what you do is because of what the society dictates. your elaborate wedding is for the society otherwise why can't nigerian women go to a court with 4-5 witnesses and get over the ish. all you hear is make up artiste, aso-ebi and live cows.....many newlyweds spent their salary of 5 years in one day to please the society... As she is staying, is the same society not ridiculing her? I bet some women whose husbands pound them secretly will still be pointing fingers at her laughing.the ridicule is bearable as it is. if she leaves him, then it's a different tale entirely. you cannot compare what obtains in the west with africa. it's easy to come on the internet and talk a good game. |
Ujujoan: That's where you are wrong . . . . Divorce will definitely mean freedom(no 'might' here); and might even mean her own life.at whose expense? the kids! if there are no kids involved, a woman should leave an abusive spouse immediately. however, kids throw a different spin into the issue. If the man can still beat her mercilessly at 9-months pregnancy, it means he's a brute and is capable of killing her sef.you really believe any man would brutalise his wife carrying his child? you watch too much nollywood.... Better for her to leave now and see her kids later than stay and die in the process!leave her kids with who? I have a cousin whose husband battered her to death so I'm talking from first class experience . . . . he's married to some other woman now and God knows what has become of their poor son!perhaps your cousin was a troublesome wife. |
Ujujoan: If they tongue-leash you, you tongue-leash back nah . . . . must you hit a woman? Must your beat a pregnant woman?well - a man with a razor tongue would kowtow her but how many men are blessed with a caustic tongue? most men talk less and let their actions speak for them. verbal abuse can lead to provocation. provocation can lead to a physical abuse. both parties must embrace mutual respect. it's impossible for a man to wake up to start beating his wife without any reason. i will never believe such tales. |
ifyalways: Sometimes and reading threads like this,I think educated women are the problem of women in Nigerianot all men are abusive.... some families are happy with only the husband bringing in the bacon with the wife taking care of the home front! the problem is - nigerian women think physical abuse is the only form of abuse. married women in that country tonguelash their spouses and they expect a bouquet in return. when a woman provokes a man, she should be ready to face the consequences. I don't tolerate any form of violence and by the same token, i don't tolerate any form of verbal abuse as well. mutual respect towards each other is the way to go..... bukatyne: Which society? Who really in the society? At the end of the day, who really cares about you?which society? your society! the irony is it is the same female folk that would use her divorce status as a whip to flog her. Anybody doing one thing or the other because of the 'society' has nothing to do in the first place.not in a society where single women are seen as pröstitutes. are you aware some landlords would not rent their houses to single women of a marriageable age? When a person has no purpose/dream/ambition, anywhere becomes his/her destination. Let her not live her life and be talking of society!i really don't think you stay in nigeria....you either stay in chad or douala. |
bukatyne: What/ where is the social stigma? Who is stigmatizing her?the society, duh! |
debosky: That guy at bleachers is on some cheap spliffs. Why isn't RVP played wide and in midfield to 'develop' him too? Unconsolidated bollocks.why would RVP be played on the wide? rooney's best role is behind the striker - he's always said that. when rooney led the line, he missed so many games due to suspension and he's overweight! All (ok someare you silly? have you seen the incident we are talking about or you just want to troll for the fun of it? what's the most natural thing to do on a 2 V 1 situation? if you line up 100 players and create that scenario, all of them would pass the ball instead of trying to score from an acute angle. rooney was too thirsty for his 200th goal and he could have jeopardised the results cos of his selfish interest. the game was still in balance as at the time rooney brainfarted..... https://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/article/media_slots/photos/001/067/940/ibvscRxSohcZyS_original.gif?1379448180 Players sometimes shoot when a cross would be better. However, criticizing a player who scored TWICE and provided an assist in a 4-1 win simply because of one pass is not only churlish, it's downright idiocy.he scored later because we were playing an inferior side. a seasoned european team would have punished us after the equaliser. they would just bring in an extra defender and park the bus. that's 2 points lost on our home soil. I hope I see the same thing when RVP tries to shoot when a pass is a better alternative.in that same situation, i would blame any player. siasia lost his first team privilege when he did the same under westerhof. yekini had scored the first goal in a difficult away game at abidjan..... siasia managed to beat an offside trap and it was him & yekini against the goalie. yekini called for the ball but siasia decided to shoot from an impossible angle when he should have just rolled the ball to yekini who would have tapped into an empty net.....nigeria lost that game 1-2. |
elampiro: Can you be sincere with yourself what you did with your mb/gb? Whether a woman used it for you or whether you used it to download films? How many Wayne Rooney news have been posted here since Tuesday? You also joined Coogar posting some irrelevant things trying to be negative about Rooney. You didn't know you could have saved some MBs when you did all that. You couldn't even complain about the Bundesliga arguments which were a far talk from the matter at hand.this was how bleacherreport observed it.... No player is untouchable and yet Ferguson seemed to be implying the striker felt he should start any game so long as he was fit. Plenty of players have had to miss out on big games over the years, nothing should be taken for granted. No exception should be made for Rooney. It is a selfishness that puts his own needs ahead of the needs of the team. It was a similar story during Tuesday's match. At 1-0, with the game still in the balance, Rooney twice had the opportunity to play Robin van Persie in for an open goal during one passage of play. Instead, he went alone and squandered the chance. Minutes later, Leverkusen equalised. All's well that ends well, but the forward's desire to get his 200th United goal seemed to cloud his judgement and it could have proved far more costly. Rooney is an excellent player but it is high time he realised that sacrifices are essential to improvement. Sometimes he will have to play out wide and sometimes he'll be fielded in the centre of midfield. That's the manager's prerogative. Just as he needs to cut down on junk food and alcohol in the offseason if he wishes to prolong his career, Rooney needs to accept that self-sacrifice is the key to greatness. Make no mistake, he could well break records for England and United, but only if he tweaks his game to put the team first and Wayne Rooney second. |
I notice our thread as been free of some Chelsea scoundrels recently. I wonder why? ![]()
they got baseled ![]() |
ibime is so unreasonable.... how can you blame emenalo for chelsea's poor start? this time last season when chelsea won their first 5 games, you gave RDM the credits, not emenalo. this is like blaming ed woodward for united's loss at anfield or a spurs fan blaming bandini for losing at the emirates. i would have beaten basel with that squad of players last night. jose's selection was rubbish. etoo has to be bedded in gradually, not jose's fire brigade approach.....torres should have started last night instead of etoo.... mourinho should be using carling cup games to warm etoo up first to dust the fluff of the russian league out of etoo..... |
nateevs: Let's keep peddling false info. Ninjah's will say anything to continue to support their pathetic point of view. Anybody who thinks you need a ball winner against the likes of Basel to win is delivering the most insane football analysis ever made. What kind of rubbish talk is this?you're 100% correct.... i have never been a fan of stockpiling hard men in the midfield - to the best of my knowledge, hatchet men are criminally overrated. what's so hardened about carrick & cleverley when they damaged chelsea, city, liverpool away from home last season? if it's about hard men, city should have won the last 3 titles with toure, de jong, barry, etc. the problem with chelsea is nothing to do with the nonsense ibime is spewing. jose is a brilliant manager but some of his decisions particularly his intransigence to play juan mata is a big flaw. if your system does not suit the best player in your club for 2 consecutive seasons then use a system that suits him - it's that simple. mata is the brain box of that team. bring torres back, play MAZACAR behind him with ramires + lampard/mikel in the pivot - that would improve chelsea's game play. mourinho should not take his la liga frustrations out on his spanish players(azpicueleta, torres, mata) are being marginalised. |
debosky: ^^^ No one mentioned RVP's egregious miss at the end. Only Rooney's matters.game had been effectively won then. the score was 4-2 with seconds to go. rooney's idiocy was at 1-0. immediately after the miss, leverkusen equalised. if they weren't a useless team, they could have just seen the game out with some ultra-defensive schemes/tactics & that could have proven costly. |
i am highly embarrassed..... |
Re: Scholesy, Gerrard, Lampard debate. Would have accepted Carragher's opinion if his reasoning wasn't beyond skewed. Saying things like why did England play him on the left and why did SAF buy Veron. Comments I expected from people down the pub who don't truly watch the game.
when there's nothing else to say, charlatans look for the flimsiest of excuses to buttress their points. carragher must believe madrid bought bale cos they are sure ronaldo isn't good enough....
|
StarBoard: I'm not a financial expert or economist, neither do I claim to be one.united have about 80-100 primary & secondary sponsors. this is where the money is coming from and where ed woodward earned his stripes. he's a guru at getting those deals anywhere on the planet. |
