Rugaria: The police failed this society in so many ways! They re paid to secure lives and property and not to start check points to collect toles. In moments like this, the police should never have collapsed totally! The disappearance of the police was deliberate and should be investigated. It was as if the police wanted to use such actions to teach the people some rare lessons forgetting that not everyone was even in support of the mass actions! This should be investigated!
We have seen many countries that witnessed such uprisings, the police did their job, arresting hoodlums while protecting both properties and civil protesters. But here, it seems like protests have been criminalized. Once you say no and match, you become the new enemy of the state... If the policeman can not stand firm and enforce the law during jumpy periods, such characters should not be in the police force! The Nigerian Police Force failed woefully yet again.. period! Nigerians never ever take responsibility for anything. It is always someone else to blame. This is what happens when you ask to disband the police. You see, just because some members of SARS are bad doesn't mean all its officers are bad. So, this is what you all have now. Total chaos! Own up to your s*it for once. It's not the police looting and destroying, it's Nigerians. And before you switch to blame the Government ask yourself, who are the Government and what nationality are they? |
Politics › Re: Why Are Nigerians Still So Poor? by CookieBrown: 8:38pm On Apr 24, 2020 |
Lyoncrescent: Being poor is multidimensional and not limited to food alone and can be analysed different ways. I want to focus on Security, Health, Education and Food Security.
All these things are elitist.
If you are a VIP or a multimillionaire, just go and see your DPO and he can give you two police men to be following you around. We see it everywhere. The police is poorly trained and poorly paid and has poor investigation mechanism and structures. First role of government is securing life and property but even that they have failed and we are all victims .
If you are a VIP again , you will have access to the best hospitals and not the government rubbish ones . Even some government hospitals have private wards for VIP and rich patients and those ones are treated so highly that you won't believe that it's the same hospital. In a developed nation , health is key but here even the president runs to London when he has a health crisis. Even the middle class is not spared in the poor nature of the health sector.
Education is a tragedy. No one that has a choice will send their children to a public primary school which is the foundation. In developed nations , public primary education is the rule while private primary education is the exception while in Nigeria it is the other way around . However FG will say the school feeding program that gulps 600 million naira daily has been a success and that primary school education is not under the FG ; in other words we can feed them but we can't equip their classrooms or pay their teachers because it's not our job. And the rot is all the way to tertiary level. With the exception of Lagos Business school, no MBA program in Nigeria meets international standards of any of AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB. It's all poor.
Food security is in shambles. Why is it so expensive to transport food from Kano to Lagos ? No one has been able to answer this question. Why are incentives not given to food production and processing companies so that we all benefit one way or the other ? It's beyond me .
Nigeria is a clueless nation . When they came with surep and you win , I said nothing will change and that it will only set a dangerous precedence. Then they came again with npower , trade moni and cash transfer. Yet another misplaced priority. This schemes are supposed to be the icing on the cake; Additional initiatives to a core initiative. However there is little or no cake. Nigeria is spending more on icing than the main cake . We spend so much on helping the poor with tokenism while neglecting the core of Security,Health, Education and Food Security.
At the end of the day, we are all poor including the elites and the rich. We never know when we will be victims of this poor system. When a wayward and poor policeman may out of frustration kill a family relation, when a niece may be rushed to a teaching hospital with pregnancy complications and the doctor on call will be in his own private hospital , when the children we refused to educate will kidnap us and when lack of standards will result to us consuming poisoned beans in our mansions . In the end , being rich and living in a poor system means we are all poor .
This rot is not limited to the Federal Government. State Governors are even worse and if I use Lagos state as a case study, we won't leave here today. God help Nigeria. When the nation completely runs out of food, all currencies will be rendered useless. I mean, how can you buy what you can't see in the first place? Leave a Nigerian without food for 3 days and he'll kill you, literally to get food. Now, imagine if he has access to weapons, not to mention the number of people all marching to tear down the so-called rich man's mansion. Before most flee to neighboring countries for food, most will die on the way, Not to mention time it'll take for OXFAM to come help a starving nation. Nigerians need to stop thinking about the NOW and focus on the future. This pandemic is a warning and sign of what to expect in the future. Accumulation of wealth, be it cash, material gains or what have you is useless if not put into the nation's benefit. God will not help Nigeria!! |

The same story over and over again, all complaints, no solutions whatsoever. A nation where its citizens constantly keep making wrong decisions and having misplaced priorities. Are Nigerians suppose to be worried about a dead corrupt politician, blaming the government or rather, marching to the streets in "face masks" demanding answers from the government? Everyone talks, talks talks, but no action to back up. How in God's name do Nigerians think the politicians got elected? Who elected them? Who stood by while the nation's resources and finances were being pilfered? Who??
Now a pandemic takes the nation by surprise, everyone is acting surprised like corruption started when COVID-19 popped up. A nations blessed with rain and arable land, constantly waiting for the government to eat. Oil prices are now heading to -$ very soon, so, let's see who's fooling who. Maybe when Nigerians begin eating human flesh, everyone would wake up and take back their country from the hands of these vile repeat elected individuals.
The FG is now taking its responsibilities so seriously for the first time in Nigeria's history because COVID-19 targets middle age and old politicians who also fear death and leaving ill gotten gains behind. |

oyb: they are typical nigerians
it has nothing to with hunger per se. before that road construction started, they were engaged in some other form of hustling; selling fruits, farming etc.
now that road construction is going on , they see it as an opportunity to make some quick money
it is the same way people going about their daily hustle abandon it to scoop fuel from a fallen truck
it is the same way a civil servant with a salary will abuse his position in a project he is overseeing to corner kickbacks
or a dpr official will abuse the fuel scarcity to shake down station dealers
or a station dealer who would use the fuel scarcity to hoard, or divert product
or a station pump attendant who would start demanding n1000 to fill jerrycans
go to orile; the people doing alaaru and carrying load will turn to robbers at night once there is a traffic jam
each and everyone of these people is earning a living, yet at any small opportunity, they become thieves
all the thieves in senate, government etc, are from the pool of nigerians, and they are doing the exact same thing on a bigger scale. @Go to Orile. A very wise poster you are I must say. I've often mentioned to people in Lagos, how can anyone make a living selling toothpicks or rat traps in Lagos? It's impossible but then you wonder why crime in the city is high compared to other states. These individuals will leave their current occupation at any given opportunity, be it robbery, be stealing or even contract killers. |

IamaNigerianGuy: You dey your house dey talk. Pontificating and self righteous.
Do you see the hunger and depression in the eyes of those children ? Do they look like they eat 2 meals a day ? In a country where a road project can go on for decades eg Lagos-Ibadan, East -West road, you expect people to have patience and forbearance while fat cats in business and government skim off their share now ? Stop blaming the victims. Nigeria is a near failed state and the citizenry is not to blame The classic "Play the victim". Before the arrival of Western Civilization, there was never any documentation of hunger or Poverty, hard-working men and women tilled the soil, farmed and harvested for their families. Today, everyone waits for the government or their fellow countryman to come feed them, even worse, most pray for food, in 2017!!! A nation blessed with good soil, steady rainfall, great climate, yet people can't dig up the soil and plant a seed but would rather beg for alms or wait for the government. The Middle East is mostly desertified, however, they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves in the food department. So, keep waiting for the government to come serve you food in your home. |

Great4God: Any man that knows His onion, that knows where He is heading to should not take it personal when a woman says no to His feelings based on His financial standing. It is expected to motivate you to achieve higher things, anytime a woman says no to me with the impression that I am not capable enough, It pushes me the more to achieve, I always take that as a challenge. I had an experience when I was much younger, a girl I had a strong feelings for told me plainly that I wasn't up to her standard then, I didn't take it out with her, I didn't hate or abuse her, but I simply told myself that I would be back for her,yes after 3 years,I was ready for her and She couldn't stand me again, my capacity, my intelligence, she lacked confidence where I was.I have a deep respect for any woman that knows and defines what she wants,it is never a crime, In life, while we are grateful to people who opened their doors for us, we should also be grateful to those that closed their doors to our face, they contributed to the success we attain in this life, that is only when you are passionate enough to succeed. If a woman ignores you because you don't have a car, it is not bad,She needs a guy with a car for convenience, all she told you was to go get a car and when you do,no be you go enjoy am Unfortunely, with this knid of thinking, you will never find true love or know what it truly feels like to be loved. It's people like you who turn to scams, kidnapping and all other forms of corruption just to get rich to attract a ladies attention when all doesn't work out as planned. After all, success in this country is defined by how much money you can acquire, no matter what it takes. If every job was given to individuals on merit, 80% of the so-called workers / ambitious minded men and women working today would be out of a job in the blink of an eye, then such write up would not even exist. Working in a low job position or unemployed today doesn't equate to being poor for life, that's why we have what's called a promotion and constant job vacancies!!
What's wrong with a woman earning more than a man? After all, her employer is most likely a man! Dear Lord, the Nigerian way of reasoning is so tiring. A Nigerian woman doesn't want a poor man because she's poor, unemployed and can't get a job because of men taking most jobs. Now she has a job, equal rights and financially stable, still, she can't be on the same level or date a man earning less?
Enough of all these petty I'm richer than you or them, by World standards, Nigeria is a very poor country and its citizens are all poor!

The program will cost 16,000 CAD which amounts to about 4m. My
Living expenses is 8000 CAD that's another 2m.
School said you can pay half of the tuition fee but recommended that you pay all because it will enhance your chances of a visa.
I have put my sports Trac for sale at 1.5m last. in order to raise some money for tuition.....
House any heads up for me? Please I'm all ears. Aww! . That's a really beautiful truck you want to give up for your future plans. I wish you the best and hope you succeed but remember, buy that same truck when you get to Canada . Best wishes. |

This brief anecdote is obviously cooked up and untrue, but I will indulge it anyway. When you base your love life or relationship on financial or material gains, it would be impossible to truly love anyone, you wouldn't even be capable of loving your own self.
It's simple, most Nigerian ladies want rich guys and this causes most Nigerian guys look for wealth at any cost. When they begin looking for wealth at any cost, this brings about corruption, desperation, armed robbery, kidnapping and all other forms of social degradation. Finally, he gets the girl, spends, fcuks* and then realizes that all wasn't as it seems, he dumps her. Then she goes around looking for another rich guy and the vicious circle continues all over again.
Unfortunately, this is the situation we have in our society today, a situation created by Nigerian men. I completely support equal rights for both men and women in this country but even if this is finally achieved, I doubt it will change the mindset of the more hungry average Nigerian lady. At the end of the day, not every rich guy sitting at home is a criminal nor is every Nigerian girl a gold digger.

MedicMan1role1: i don't get how it is hypocrisy, but i build my facts from a balance of mainstream and alternate media
I am a big fan of the Machiavellian ideals on consolidation of power. And if you want to site this as hypocrisy, i must remind you that, that his little book is the anti-thesis of the user manual handed to us by the white man called the bible. And the principles of his book has been applied by great leaders from the time immemorial. Khadaffi was a cruel man but he did not let his people suffer; well not until he ran mad.
All 7 points you mentioned still has at its roots, a dependency on the white mans narrative as a causative factor to our problems. Early coups in Africa were doctored by western interest who saw the military as the tool for securing the status quo as regards to their principalities. The tragedy is that when these interests had been consolidated, they left us with those devices to govern ourselves.
The problem with governing ourselves then is that it cannot come naturally cos it did not originate naturally Khadaffi was a cruel man but he did not let his people suffer; well not until he ran mad. ---> Finally, we agree on something, I think. All 7 points you mentioned still has at its roots, a dependency on the white man's narrative as a causative factor to our problems. ---> Please stop with this way of thinking. There's no country in the world that wouldn't seek to take advantage of another country, I mean, no single country!! No European put a gun, machete or RPG in the hands of these dictators and their cohorts to carry out these atrocities. It's akin to blaming the devil for all our misdeeds. Also, stop mentioning ''the White man'', that's a statement used by unintelligent folks. Now I know you're aren't one, so let's focus on the issue at hand. We, as a race, are largely the cause of our own problems. We made the choice to be deceived as well as maltreat our own people, not some damn conspiracy theory. |

Spent in dollars and it boosts the country's tourism cos from what i understand, their currency has been poisoned by western interests. World bank and IMF have been sanctioning him because of his indigenisation policies.
2.this was basically hearsay.
3.Zimbabwe has been using cassava flour since way back as a standard. The Europeans that lived among them created very good value chain for their agricultural produce. They are almost self sustained when it comes to agricultural produce.
4.no, I am not complaining about our assimilation of their culture, but our dependency on their narrative to build our world view. he is very popular in his country and due to its a multi-tribal state, his opposition are often across that line and are funded by western interest. His tribe is a majority tribe so his stand on power is secure. His legitimacy is also rightly so because he has been democratic in his hold on power.
5. Khadaffi was a good leader to his people, and bad to foriegn interests. Its unfortunate his ways weren't pure, but a leader must know when to be kind, and also know how to use wickedness. Its the burden of their work. However, he did build a great country. He went completely mad towards the end, but it was due to he did not understand why a people he had done so much for would turn against him. He brought the whole house down on him.
Afrocentrism is an ideal... i believe in a United Africa protecting its own interests and trading freely with itself. no, I am not complaining about our assimilation of their culture, but our dependency on their narrative to build our world view ---> Hypocrisy again and again. Khadaffi was a good leader to his people----> I'm sorry but are you playing devil's advocate? Gadhafi was never a good man, there's absolutely no way to sugar coat it. The same goes for Mugabe. Until Africans take responsibility for their own problems and accept logic and critical reasoning as part of their culture, Africa will never ever move forward. No matter how obsessed we are with Europeans and try to blame them for any little problem we have, it will never change the following facts: 1. The people who killed the only few good men we had as good leaders were Africans. No European put a gun or knife in the hand of any African to commit these atrocities 2. The people who sell out their own African countries and its people as peanuts to the Europeans are African 3. The Civil wars, Wars, and Genocide are committed by Africans. Again, No European put a gun or knife in the hand of any African to commit these atrocities 4. We caused colonialism through slavery and even after slavery, Africans embrace Neocolonialism with pleasure 5. The poor state of the nation or nations are caused by the Africans 6. The huge loans taken from the IMF and other Organisations were done by Africans 7. We kill ourselves daily for Religion, ethnic and tribal bigotry I could go on and on but I'm sure you understand the point I'm trying to make. I repeat, Afrocentrism never helps anyone, it's only a mask for reverse racism, that's why we're only united when it comes to the Europeans, yet, we're so disunited amongst ourselves. |

Franzinni: For an intelligent ape of your caliber I. See no reason to blame you for your lack of a brain as you have easy access to the medium to help you display your stupidity....
It will be an utter shame if you happen to be a black or a non white excuse for a person... because it just goes to show how brain washed you are... to think every body you meet in life understand how to speak "ape".
I still say go and read my initial post and let your brain do some work for once...
Shiiiiiit!! For your information I run my company and I will never send my employee of that level an errands to go buy something... We have people that have that in their job description...
You seem to be dancing round the topic.... Oloriburuku!!!!
Omokomo!!! ''I run my company and I will never send my employee of that level an errands to go buy something'' --> Honesty and truthfulness is a quality most Nigerians lack. Please try to construct proper grammar before replying, damn you can't even spell. Black man, Black brain! |

Franzinni: Why do some people comment like inbred brainless no good fools This is why they say smart phones will soon have to do everything for people...
How can some people's fingers be faster than their brain..
I categorically started my previous comment with..
Is errand part of his job description and if not...
Then he deserves the 2k for his troubles... Which is standard practice since he is offering his time at work for money..
But some inconsiquential.... Unimportant nobodys. Whos half baked iQ.. Now think their opinions matter to my on this very topic..
I was waiting for that goodie 2 shoes that will feel he holds the moral high ground and try to sit on my face...
You made a big mistake because you are trying to sit on a venomous snake. At the end of the day, not a single sentence made any logical sense but it's ok, you're black and an unintelligent Nigerian, I expect nothing more. An individual robbed of critical reasoning acts out with an outburst of insults when he or she has nothing logical to contribute or argue with in defense. Imagine a bush monkey mentioning IQ like he or she has any. ''He deserves 2k for his troubles''? What troubles? Did anyone force the individual in question to say yes or cheat? Only a hardcore career criminal will defend a criminal. ''You made a big mistake because you are trying to sit on a venomous snake'' --> What the hell does that even mean? A warning in monkey language? |

He deserves the two k for his troubles...
Like the mumu.. Boss doesn't inflate the price of what ever service he or she provides There you go ladies and gentlemen, the cycle of stupidity and unintelligence continues. Well, someone is fooling someone in this nation, let's see how far we are all willing to go in bringing this nation down. geni340: pls wats so bad bout celeron? am using intel celeron @2.16GHz... is there somfin i need to knw? i plan on changing my pc soon Intel Celeron is at the bottom in terms of performance. It has a low cache, overheats fast and processes multi-tasks at a slow rate. There is a reason why Laptops, new or old running Celeron are cheap. However, if the financial constraint is that bad, then, by all means, go for it but don't expect much. BR. |

olahandsome: I would love to get a core i3, i5 or i7. But financial constraint is the issue that's why I going for lower processor. I am thinking of getting 1.8GHZ AMD or DUAL CORE Hello again, and sorry for the financial constraint. In this situation then, I advise you go for a Dual core (Intel Pentium or AMD) with nothing less than 2.0 GHz. Stay away from Celeron, please. Regards. |

VomeSchakleton: Again stupidity they say is limitless.
The europeans when they got here, did they dwell here over thousands of years? no! when they came here they had already acquired knowledge and stability. Something that was hindered for africans by the factors i mentioned. Did you even read how i told you weather affects productivity? Seems when people can read understanding is a whole different thing.
Again you seem like a very ignorant person. Theres a reason why "tropical diseases" send chills down the spine of most europeans. Theres a reason why they kept dying when they first came to africa.
After the second world war strong institutions had already been built by these people, so any damage can be overcome.I also listed some social factors that hinder growth like murdering a sitting prime minister because he wasnt of your ethnic stock. If you want to believe you were made an im.becile by every means go ahead, but don't claim to have proof to back that up because you have none.
Please learn to read critically and comprehensively.
Today many africans that benefit from their institutions are doing great things. The fact that you still try to argue with me on this is proof that there is something fundamentally wrong with being African. However, I wouldn't expect anything less from someone who can't even construct proper grammar or use punctuation when typing. The problems of Nigeria are the Nigerians. Replace Nigerians in Nigeria with Australians and put the Nigerians in Australia, within 5 to 10 years, the Nigerians will be queuing up for a visa back to Nigeria. Computers › Re: Computer Science Vs Computer Engineer by CookieBrown: 2:07am On May 03, 2017 |
Hello there,
In this current job market (Globally), Computer Science Majors are more in demand as compared to Computer Engineering. Also, most jobs offered in the CE industry can actually be done by unskilled labour, mostly in the assembly section. CS on the other is a bit more complex and requires more effort or brain power due to complex programming among others. |
