God doesn't like data.
The story goes that God, being all-knowing, already knew the exact figure. It'd be stupid to say God didn't know.. you see?
It was a test of David's faith and trust. You know, sometimes GOd works like that. Same way after creating the whole universe, and all the extra planets, he decided to plant the Tree in the same garden, same planet, with Adam. It's the same trick always. God sets you up. You fall. He blames you. You feel guilty. You start begging for forgiveness.
Same shit worked on Adam, worked on David. still works on AFRICANS.
NOw who's the Devil? Oh yeah, I forgot about Mysterious Ways™ Like how God created the world in Genesis 1 and then created it again in a different order in Genesis 2. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Suggest A Book/ Book Reviews by CoolUsername: 10:10am On Feb 14, 2016 |
finofaya: I'd suggest "Letters From The Earth" by Mark Twain. It's about the creation of the earth by God, written from the perspective of Lucifer who decided to spend one of his periods of banishment from heaven on earth out of curiosity. It's full of humour and its maybe a little irreverent.
The Hitchhiker trilogy (The Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy, Parts 1 - 5) by Douglas Adam is another good one too, especially part 1, followed by 2 and 3. It's hard to describe what it's exactly about but it's mostly about the adventures of two humans, two aliens and a robot across space and time. It's seriously funny, dabbles into philosophy a lot and toys with your belief in God. Here is an excerpt:
"The argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing." "But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves that You exist, and so therefore, by Your own arguments, You don't. QED" "Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. "Oh, that was easy," says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing."
You can also try "The Miracle Of Theism" by J. L. Mackie. It's sort of like The God Delusion but it's much earlier and written in a more balanced tone. It's also somewhat tedious and long, as the author tried to be exhaustive in examining the arguments for and against theism. There is even some maths involved, in weighing some arguments and in making others. Lol. It's a satisfying read.
My full weight (54kg) is behind the earlier mentioned Jim Holt's Why Does The World Exist too. You can't go wrong with that one. You can't go right either, as the book leaves its title question unanswered. The ride is worth it, however. As the author put it, it's an existential detective story, so it's very investigative but the case remains open.
"Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman is nice and puts a British twist on the Ghanaian trickster God, Anansi the spider. There is a massive plot twist too.
Then there is the FSM Gospel. Read at your own peril. I've read parts 1 and 2 of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and I was very impressed. I'm currently reading the Gospel of FSM and to be honest, it's actually very well-written satire. |

KingEbukasBlog: You just called it "the SUPERnatural" and expect it to be detected , measure and predictions made ? Come on !
Spirituality does that not science . Science studies nature not the supernatural . You atheists rule out the supernatural - an evidence of a close-mindedness Supernatural is supposed to transcend nature. That means that it is supposed to create events that won't be possible to replicate using conventional science. So let someone who claims to know about the supernatural do something really supernatural, like regrow an amputee's hand in front of doctors. Let the volunteer be neutral. Until then, there's no reason to believe. |

UyiIredia: Why not use reason to infer the supernatural. Why must atheists ask for empirical evidence whig is open o misinterpretation from poor reasoning. The supernatural supposedly transcends nature, right. So if you say that you can raise the dead, let's bring a cadaver so you can raise him/her in front of experts. The experts will supply the cadaver, obviously. I heard that one guy even offered a large sum of money to anyone who can perform straight-up magic in front of him. Nobody has been successful yet. |

UyiIredia: There can be bias despite peer review. It is a FACT that since the 20th century there has been a very obvious materialistic bias in science. The peer review process has flaws. All you have to do is Google it and see for yourself. Materialism would remain the scientific method until concrete evidence of the supernatural is brought forth. If there are supernatural forces then someone should detect them, measure them, and most importantly make predictions with them. Until then, you can't even call it a bias. |

But you can't just say things happen randomly like that without a spiritual or universal law behind them. Come on! Even TY Bello hasn't been able to get herself the kind of worldwide recognition the girl is getting. This is not chance or luck. Dude/dudette, if we were to look at all the agege bread sellers who have been praying for years to get a better life, you'll see that this can randomly occur. Is it every agege bread seller that prays fervently that gets recognition? Just because a series improbable events happened doesn't automatically prove God. Let's look at the series of improbable events that led to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand: When the Archduke's motorcade passed close by, the first two conspirators failed to take any shots because of the crowds and an inadequate line of sight. The next conspirator managed to throw a bomb. the Archduke's car but it simply bounced off and fell into the car behind. The two conspirators quietly disappeared while the third tried to commit suicide by ingesting cyanide but simply vomited and was captured by the police. Unlucky Princip and the other two insurgents gave up and sauntered away. Meanwhile the Archduke made it all the way to the city hall and gave a speech, expressing outrage to the mayor that he had just been subjected to an assassination attempt. Since the Archduke had just expressed outrage at an attempted assassination, he should have known better than to drive back the same way he came. However it seems that only one of the generals in his entourage suggested taking an alternative route back. But in the heat of the moment, for some reason this timely advice was not communicated to the driver who decided to again drive back through the city center. While this was happening Princip had purportedly given up and was hanging around a bakery, maybe enjoying a pastry. However when he saw the car return on the same route the opportunity was too good to pass; more so since the transmission seemed to be jammed and the driver could not back up. The rest is very much history. Source: blogs.scientificamerican.com/the-curious-wavefunction/gavrilo-princip-conspiracy-theories-and-the-fragility-of-cause-and-effect/ The assassination of this man eventually led to WW1 and the death of millions. Does the fact that the events leading to it mean that we can say God orchestrated things in this event, thereby causing WW1? |

What I love about Mugabe is not just running his mouth. He has delivered something to his people - land. That is the greatest resource any man would need to make their own future. It's for that reason that land was the first thing to go when Africa was taken by colonial governments. You think he would have done it without retaliation from the "global economy?"

What has happened has happened, yes it was bad but you have to move on and stop blaming them for problems that you brought upon yourself. Christianity Etc › Re: What Has Religion Done For Africa. by CoolUsername: 7:40pm On Feb 09, 2016 |
Muafrika2: Coolusername I do not agree with the blame put on religion and in total disregard of the economic, social and political systems that are in play. But you are wrong....
The colonialism of Africa did not end in Africa in 1958 or whenever individual countries in Africa celebrate their "self rule." What happened then was the birth of a new form of colonialism. The indirect rule of Africa by the same powers.
We may have black faces on the faces of the system (the president, politicians, CEOs of multinationals - when they let us,) But they are there as a cover up. Most of the economic decisions of African countries are made by the World bank. Who owns the world Bank? You know the piper will play to the music of whoever pays him.
Now, the beneficiaries of the current pillaging of Africa are (this may sound racist) white people. You see that petroleum being mined in Nigeria, it will, while still on the African soil, be sold to a subsidiary of the parent company that mined it at a negligible price. This is the only price on which the Nigerian/ or other African government will charge a tax. Remember its still unrefined petrol.
Now that subsidiary of the mother company has a "headquarters" in tax free Switzerland. In Switzerland, there is a World Commodity Market. That is where all the minerals of Africa are "traded". But as I have demonstrated, Africa was cut off from the trade in its own commodity by that first, below market price transaction. It's in Switzerland where real money is made. In the commodity markets. It's why it's the richest country in terms of per capita income. Allegedly, also the happiest.
Most of the trade in Switzerland is still between subsidiaries. But the profits are huge. The commodity marked is a huge, lucrative employer of the (white) Swedish people.
From Switzerland, the African resourced minerals ( also gold, copper, iron, nickel, etc) are resold to mainly European and US markets. They benefit their respective countries (white) populations in several ways, among them:
1. Bought as raw products, they get to be refined and converted into usable goods in US and Europe, and in the process, create factories, refineries and dealers in processed goods in Europe and US who are the (white) citizens of those countries and direct beneficiaries of the pillaging of Africa.
2. The (white)citizens of those countries resell to us those finished goods made out of our pillaged resources at an incomparably higher price than the prices they got it from us, in the process, recovering the little money they had left as taxes.
That is why Nigeria imports refined oil. Othe countries like Zambia which produces copper imports copper products, and so on. That is why Africa's minerals are considered a curse. They are only of benefit to those (whites) who pillage them.
I submit to you, there is no innocent white man as far as the pillaging, usury and raping of Africa, as the op put it, is concerned. When Singapore wanted to get it's act together, it did, and almost overnight too. It's not any white man's fault that we can't refine our own resources, is it? Nigeria, for example actually makes some good money in the international market. But most of it is lost too corruption. Robert Mugabe, the tyrannical leader of Zimbabwe who has probably run the country to the ground still has a lot of suppoters in Africa because he can 'stand up to the whites'. That attitude is not going to improve Africa. Africans are biggest problem to Africa. And as long as we keep this attitude of blaming everything on white people who have nothing to do with our current state, we won't improve. |
