A young boy took social media by surprise last month when he drove his locally made 'customized car' to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu state. Other students admired the work of the brilliant engineer as he drove the car round the school environment. It was said that the young man had constructed the 'car' with locally sourced materials. Of recent, the customized car was spotted in the metropolis of Enugu, as people gathered around in amazement. Actress Yvonne Nelson has recounted how she narrowly escaped an accident involving an airplane at New York City’s JFK Airport. Yvonne was scheduled on a Delta flight which malfunctioned, catching fire and forcing the evacuation of all passengers on board. Yvonne shared a news report on the accident on her Instagram page, which revealed that the Delta Flight 420, NY to Accra, had its landing gears accidentally overheating, sparking a flame. Luckily it was spotted pretty much on time and measures taken to avert any disaster. Yvonne captioned the video of the accident: “My flight! So this happened to us! On the 1st of October, the senior pastor of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi and his wife, Esther, paid President Buhari a visit at the state house Abuja. In a post he shared on his Facebook page this afternoon, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, expressed his displeasure at the clergyman's visit to President Buhari. FFK says he is ashamed and outraged by the visit. Read what he wrote below My paternal great grandfather (my grandfather's father), Rev. Emmanuel Adelabi Kayode, was an Anglican priest. He was educated by the Christian missionaries and the Anglican Church and he studied theology at Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leonne which was at that time a satellite campus of the United Kingdom's Universty of Durham. In 1892 he graduated with honors with a Master of Arts degree in theology. He was the first Anglican priest to introduce Christianity to the ancient town of Ile-Ife in the Osun province of the western region of the old Southern Protectorate of Nigeria and he was the first to build and Pastor a Church there. He pastored the Church in Ile-Ife for many years before he was later transferred to Ondo province to head another branch of the Anglican Church for a further 16 years. After that he was posted to Ijebu province where he headed the local branch of the Anglican Church until he went into retirement in the old Lagos colony. He was a deeply courageous man who loved the Lord passionately, who was totally dedicated and committed to the spreading of the gospel, who served the Church all his life and who was a great, powerful and fiery orator and preacher. My second paternal great grandfather was Rev. Joseph Suberu Fanimokun. He was my grandmother's father. He was also educated by the Anglican Church and he also graduated with honors in 1892 from Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leonne. He was also later ordained as an Anglican priest. He was appointed Principal of the famous Christian Mission Society (CMS) Grammar School in the Lagos colony in 1896 and he remained principal until 1914. CMS Grammar School is the first and oldest secondry school in Nigeria. These facts, coupled with the fact that I am a devout and practising Evangelical/Pentecostal Christian, are a pointer to my rich Christian heritage and I am very proud of that. It is precisely because of that heritage that I have profound respect for the Body of Christ and that I revere all genuine men and women of God. I have the deepest affection for each of them even where and when I do not totally agree with all their views, actions and submissions. Yet despite that once in a while that affection is put to the test and my patience and good faith is exhausted. The picture below provides a good example of this. Frankly it is difficult for me to fathom or fully comprehend what is going on there. I see the much-loved and highly respected Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi of Deeper Life (one of the greatest Churches on the African continent and a pioneer Church within the Pentecostal denomination in Nigeria) and his wife felicitating with a man under whose watch more innocent and defenceless Nigerians, and particularly Christians, have been slaughtered than any other in the history of our country. So much innocent blood has flowed under Buhari yet Pastor Kumuyi is still comfortable with smiling and shaking hands with him and neither has he said one word publicly about Leah Sharibu. I and many others are saddened by this. This is all the more so because I happen to love Pastor Kumuyi and the Deeper Life Church. I always have and I always will. Yet sadly I also feel a deep sense of shame and outrage about this outing. For how long must a few of our clerics embarass the Body of Christ and Christendom by bowing before our oppressors and encouraging them to continously torment, afflict and terrorise our people. Pastor Kumuyi's photoshoot with Buhari reminds me of the famous picture of Pope Pius X11 shaking hands with and commending Adolf Hitler during the course of World War 11. The Catholic Church never lived it down and was compelled to tender a public apology for this grave error almost 50 years later. Let us hope that one day every man and woman of God, whether he or she be a Pastor, Bishop, General Overseer or Archbishop, that has in any way supported, encouraged, applauded or colluded with the evil tyrant that has afflicted, scourged and plagued our land and our people over the last 3 years and six months will find the decency and courage to apologise for it. Let us hope that more of our clerics can find the courage of the late Bishop Ajayi Crowther, the late Apostle Ayo Babalola, the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, the late Rev. Musa Asake, Rev. Ayo Oritsejafor, Bishop Emmanuel Bolanle Gbonigi, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor David Ibiyomi, Dr. Paul Eneche, Prophet T.B. Joshua, CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle, Pastor Paul Adefarasin. Bishop El Buba, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Apostle Samson Suleiman, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, Pastor Rhoda Awiliki and so many others. They and countless other leaders of the clergy from all over the country that have remained true to their calling, stood firm in the face of tyranny, refused to bow to evil, spoken truth to power and stood up against the manifest injustice that has gripped the land are our pride and joy. Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, has said that the 2019 presidential election will not be a contest between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and President Buhari, but "a straight fight between the president and Nigerians who are tired of his misrule." In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said President Buhari will have Nigerians to contend with in 2019 and not the PDP or other opposition parties alone. Governor Fayose said the tripod on which the Buhari administration was erected had collapsed like a pack of cards The international community has said corruption under Buhari is worse that in times past. Nigerians themselves know that murderous herdsmen have joined Boko Haram under Buhari and the economy, which was booming under Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, went into recession under Buhari and has remained comatose. For Nigerians, the 2019 election is not about political parties, particularly as it affects Buhari's presidency. "The election will be Nigerians versus Buhari and not PDP versus Buhari or PDP versus APC, especially knowing how negatively Buhari has impacted the lives of Nigerians." Fayose said with millions of Nigerians thrown out of jobs and an uncountable number of companies folding up on a daily basis, Nigerians in their teeming numbers were waiting for the 2019 election to vent their anger and frustration on what he described as the president's disruptive and destructive policies. "Buhari has damaged Nigeria. He has damaged the lives of an uncountable number of Nigerians. The suffering and untold hardship he has brought on Nigeria and Nigerians is unprecedented. Most importantly, he has destroyed the trust of Nigerians in the ballot box and the people can't wait to send him packing so that they can get their country back. In 2019, the same shocker of 2015 will be witnessed and it will be a ruder shock for those who believed in their mastery of election rigging to remain in power." On credibility of elections in the country, Governor Fayose said; "Look at how they subverted the will of the people in Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and the recent Osun governorship elections. The fact they had to rig those elections is a clear testimony that Nigerians have rejected Buhari and his party. They resorted again and again into relying on the security agencies to coerce and intimidate voters. In all the aforementioned elections and other bye-elections across the country, they stole the votes and compromised the electoral process. The European Union, Britain, United States and other election monitoring groups, be it local or international, said as much about the last Osun election." He called on Nigerians to stand up to INEC and insist on credible elections in 2019, noting that "a determined nation must free itself from a dictator who rules by nepotism and oppression." A teacher had sex with a 16-year-old pupil in an aeroplane toilet after the pair drank alcohol on the flight back from a school trip, a court has heard. Eleanor Wilson, 29, of The Rope Walk in Dursley, Gloucestershire, later told the boy she was pregnant, a jury heard. Miss Wilson told the boy he would be a father during a “clandestine” affair they had after the trip in 2015, the prosecution told Bristol Crown Court. She denies sexual activity with a child under 18 while in a position of trust. The pupil and the school concerned cannot be identified for legal reasons. An allegation of the affair only came to light after another male pupil at the school became aware of the relationship and threatened to expose Miss Wilson unless she had sex with him, prosecutor Virginia Cornwall told the court. She said Miss Wilson, known as Ellie, was a “bright and capable” science teacher who was “highly regarded”. A “bond” developed between her and the boy on the trip, which took place when she was 26, after “an erosion of boundaries”, Mrs Cornwall said. On the flight home, the pair were seen by another pupil “sitting inappropriately” after they had been drinking, the jury heard. Mrs Cornwall said the alcohol led to “a lack of inhibition” and the pair went to the plane toilet together where they had sex. “It was a secret between them,” she said. After the trip they exchanged telephone numbers and met several times. She later told the boy she was pregnant by him and decided to have an abortion and kept it from her boyfriend. Mrs Cornwall said: “There is no doubt there was a pregnancy but she does not accept that she had intercourse with the boy or that he was the father.” She later informed the school which conducted an investigation and she resigned from her job, the jury heard. Miss Wilson faces four counts of sexual activity with a child under 18 while in a position of trust. The case continues. President Emmanuel Macron of France has reacted to a controversial middle finger photo of him posing with a bare-chested youth who is giving the middle finger during a trip to French territories in the Caribbean. Far-right leader Marine Le Pen said she was “unable to find the words to express our indignation” at the sight of Macron posing with two black youths on Saint Martin island in a snap that has gone viral. “The reasons I fought to be elected instead of Marine Le Pen and that I am here today is because I love all of the republic’s children, whatever their past troubles,” Macron shot back Sunday. Macron, who beat Le Pen in last year’s presidential election, on Saturday took a spontaneous trip to the home of one of the youths in the picture, seen wearing a white vest, who had recently left prison after serving time for robbery. After telling him to quit crime — “your mother deserves better than that” — the 40-year-old French leader posed for a picture with him and his bare-chested friend, who gave the middle finger to the camera. Defending the pair, Macron said they had carried a handicapped girl to meet him after the picture was taken. They were “capable of doing that because I showed confidence in them, because I respected them. That’s our republic,” he said. – A softer image? – Macron used the trip to France’s hurricane-hit islands in the Caribbean to spend time with local people — and to urge faster reconstruction — and the picture could help soften his image after a dramatic fall in the polls recently. But it also highlights his sometimes contradictory image-making, which sometimes casts him as a modernising, youthful president, while at other times shows him emphasising the traditions and sobriety of his office. A father of nine children has reportedly died while trying to rescue some cassava from flooding in Anambra state. Chief Ojike Ajanwu, a father of nine children, is the latest victim swept away by flood in Obolo village in Ogwuanicha, Anambra State. Ajanwu was said to have drowned in his attempt to evacuate his harvested cassava from his farm, on Thursday. His death brought the number of deaths in the flood to four, Arinze Awogu, Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, told NAN on Friday. According to Awogu, the wife of the deceased, and her eight children — including a one-month-old baby — were at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) centre in Ogwuaniocha. He said: “The deceased left behind a young wife, Chinasa, who hails from Ossomala and nine children; the oldest of the children is 13 years old. “Our hearts go out to the family, and we assure them of government’s support and sincere condolences. We shall inform the governor about the incident. We are still counting the number of deaths but as at it stood at four." The council boss noted that the flood has not shown signs of receding, as the 16 communities in the area have been submerged by flood, stating that “It’s a real emergency". "None of the 16 communities in Ogbaru is left out; the upland is congested; the IDPs camps are overstretched, so we are now moving them to Ihiala and Onitsha," he added. “I do not know the basis for the impression that this flood is receding. For us down here in Ogbaru, we are still at the middle of this emergency, and flood level is still rising." He, however, thanked the Anambra State government for its support and urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to do more to assist the victims. Meanwhile, Walsom Ibarakumo, Coordinator of Enugu office of NEMA, said the agency had handed over relief materials to Anambra SEMA for distribution to affected persons. Items so far handed over to Anambra SEMA were food and non-food items including 600 bags of rice; 300 bags of garri; 600 bags of cement; 200 cartons of Milo; 300 bags of beans; 1,000 cartons of detergent, and 300 cartons of tinned tomato paste. Others were 2,000 pieces of treated mosquito nets; 1,000 pieces of toilet soap; 1,500 pieces of printed wax; 150 kegs of vegetable oil; 150 bags of salts,;150 bags of sugar and 150 kegs of red oil. The Nigerian Army has on Thursday, September 27, denied a report from Champion News that army personnels were deployed to Osun state to take over from the police and provide security during the ongoing governorship election rerun. In a statement signed by the deputy director of Army public relations, Colonel Hassan Ifijeh Mohammed, the army said the report which was culled from Champion News is misleading Mohammed said: "The Nigerian Army is very much aware of its constitutional roles therefore can not and will never usurp the roles of the Nigeria Police during elections. "When and wherever the Nigerian Army deploys during elections, it does so to compliment the efforts of the Nigeria Police in providing security in aid to civil authority in conjunction with other security agencies." A video that shows a food service worker at Comerica Park in Detroit spitting on pizza intended for customers has gone viral and the employee has now been fired and arrested. The incident happened on Friday, September 21, 2018, when Detroit Tigers hosted the Kansas City Royals. The video posted to Instagram by another employee shows a food service worker at Comerica Park in Detroit spitting on the pizza, then rubbing the sauce in it. Sharing the video online, Quinelle May wrote: I was sent home early today because I didn’t have on my Comerica Park shirt and they say I was at the bathroom for too long. So they yelled at me and told me to go home. But since they made me go home early I couldn’t wait until after the game to tell them an employee was spitting in customer pizzas!!!  #detroittigers#worldstar #detroitThe customers don’t deserve this!! This is disgusting! And for the company to threaten me and let me go for exposing this video to the fans is also disgusting!!? Quinelle May said the worker who spat in the food was "mad and having a bad day" and also claimed to have done it in the past. May said after he recorded the video, he went to the bathroom looking around to tell people about the video, but couldn't find anybody. He said his managers got mad at him and shut him down when they tried to tell them. Officials say the employee is in police custody and could face charges. Detroit Sportservice, which provides food service at the ballpark, said in a statement: As soon as we became aware through social media of potential food tampering Friday night, we immediately closed that food stand and disposed of all the product. Food safety is our top priority and we will take any appropriate action necessary to protect our guests. Though May says he's been fired for posting the video online, a spokesperson for Detroit Sportservice says May has not been fired but was suspended. They released the following statement: The employee who filmed and posted the video was sent home from the game Friday evening on an unrelated uniform violation prior to us learning about the food tampering via the video being posted on social media. Our only subsequent communication with that employee was to let him know that he would not be working Saturday or Sunday. No one acting in an official work capacity asked him to remove the video. We referred information regarding the video to the Detroit Police Department and they have told us it is an active investigation. A 20-year -old woman, Zulac Kabiru has confessed to killing her eight month old step daughter, Rukaiya Kabiru, to teach her co-wife how to respect ‘her superior’ by giving her local insecticide ‘otapiapia’ to drink. Zulac who was arrested by the police in Niger State for allegedly killing her eight month old step daughter at Danauta village in the Mariga Local Government Area of the state said that the second wife had the habit of insulting and assaulting her so she decided to poison her daughter. The suspect was said to have secretly given the baby the locally made insecticide popularly known as ‘otapiapia’ to drink which resulted to her death. It was gathered that the suspect and her fellow wife had not been in good terms for a long time; facts gathered also revealed that the first wife resented the marriage to the second wife. Speaking to newsmen when she was paraded, she said, “I warned my husband to desist from getting another wife in the family but he could not listen. The second wife was in the habit of insulting and assaulting me at all times and one day I decided to poison her eight month old daughter to death to increase her sorrow in the family, so that she will learn how to respect her superior in the family. “Before my husband married her whom I kicked against, we have been living in peace but when she came she divide the family. My husband gave her more attention than myself and since then our family had been in shambles, “she explained. Zulac said that she did not know when she carried out the act stating that it was the work of the devil, “it was the work of devil, I don’t know when I did it trust me, it is a wicked act.” The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo should be ready to clear his name of any allegation levelled against him. The governor also asked the ex-President to stop raising alarm on plot to arrest him by the Federal Government. He said: “Nigerians are being humiliated every day by President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime which he (Obasanjo) helped to enthrone.” “Some of us have gone through trials before and we are not afraid of trials even today.” The governor, who insisted that Obasanjo deserves whatever humiliation he was getting from President Buhari, said “the President can go ahead and arrest the ex-President if he desires but should remember that what goes around comes around.” “He won’t be President forever too. After all, they have been intimidating and humiliating former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife,” Fayose said. The governor referred to Page 96 of Obasanjo’s book, “My Watch,” where he wrote “I prefer him (Buhari) to jail me than Jonathan to return to destroy this nation,” noting that “since the ex-President himself said he preferred to be jailed by Buhari and worked for his enthronement, the President can hasten his arrest and imprisonment. In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said: “When other Nigerians were at the receiving end of President Buhari’s dictatorship, Obasanjo was going in and out of the Presidential Villa. “Where was he when Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) was arrested and detained since 2015 despite court orders for his release? When over 1,000 members of the Nigeria’s Islamic Movement were killed in Zaria and their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, arrested and dumped in detention since 2016 despite of court orders, what did Obasanjo do? “Where was Obasanjo when armed men of the DSS invaded the Ekiti State House Assembly and abducted one of its members? There has been chaos in Lagos Island for some time now following clashes between two notorious groups in the area. The clash between the Onala boys and Okepopo boys, which happened recently – saw thugs armed with cutlasses, guns and other weapons battle each other in the street, thereby causing fear and tension among the residents. Multiple trending videos which were posted online, show the thugs fight each other with weapons and even shooting in broad daylight. Report has it that despite the presence of police stations in the area especially the central police station located at Adeniji street, the area boys fight each other consistently with the security men doing little or nothing to stop the crisis. The residents are calling on the state government to find a way to stop the re-occurring clash. Some time ago, two people were killed and many others injured as suspected hoodlums from the Okepopo area of Lagos Island in Lagos State went on rampage to avenge an earlier attack on one of them from their counterparts from Onola. One of the deceased persons, Small Shakiru, was killed around Agarawu on Monday night, while another unidentified person was also macheted to death by the rampaging Okepopo Boys. The hoodlums also reportedly took advantage of the pandemonium created by their activities to rob unsuspecting residents and loot shops around Onola, Hafiner and Andrew. The Ogun state police have held a 70-year-old man who allegedly defiled two underage girls. Sunday Tugbobo was arrested last Tuesday for defiling the girls who are 7 and 8 years of age. According to the police, the arrest of the septuagenarian followed a complaint by one Mr John Oru, a resident of House Number 10, Ondo Road, Ijebu-Ode, and the father to one of the defiled girls. A statement from the Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says Oru reported at Igbeba Divisional Headquarters “that the suspect who is a co-tenant in the same house had unlawful carnal knowledge of his 7-year-old daughter (name withheld) He stated further that it was their landlady who caught the suspect right in the act and informed them. It was when the landlady was informing them that the other girl who is eight years old also accused the man of having done the same thing to her earlier. “Upon the report, the acting DPO Igbeba Division, SP Onah Lawrence, detailed his detectives to the scene where the randy suspect was arrested. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime. He also admitted that he lured the two minors to his room with a mince pie at a different time where he had carnal knowledge of them. The two victims had been taken to Ijebu-Ode General Hospital for medical examination.” Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
