A conflict between students of the Federal Polytechnic Bida and Indigenes of Bida culminated in the death of multiple people while several were injured and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. According to reports, the clash was started by a conflict between a commercial river and students of Bida poly who boarded his vehicle and it soon escalated to become a communal clash. The students reportedly boarded a commercial bus from Minna to Bida on Saturday and agreed with the driver to take them straight to the campus.

But when they got to Bida, the driver took them to the park and ended the journey, informing them that that is normally the final bus stop. The students, who had paid to be taken to the campus, went to the garage officials to lay their complaints but they were ignored.The students returned to the garage on Sunday with some of the Students Union officials to lay their complaints but they were beaten up by some boys in the garage.
The students then returned to the campus, mobilized themselves and went back to Esso Motor Park in Bida to fight. Multiple students were killed in the clash. A lecturer of Bida Polytechnic was also killed according to reports. A driver believed to be an indigene was also killed and this led to a full-blown communal clash between indigenes and students. Efforts by the vigilante and the police to quell the crisis proved abortive. During the clash which lasted for hours, some shops were said to have been destroyed and vehicles had their windscreens smashed. A motorcycle was also burnt to ashes.

A suspected thief has met his end while trying to scale a fence into an estate in Abuja.

A newlywed Utah couple died Sunday in a lone-vehicle accident outside Prosser, Washington, according to a report from the Washington Highway Patrol.

Amy Moffat, 28, of Provo, and Stephen C. Graham, 30, of Riverton, were traveling westbound outside of the tri-cities area in southern Washington. .

Moffat fell asleep at the wheel and over-corrected, causing the red Ford F-150 truck to roll, according to the report.


They were pronounced dead at the scene. The couple had married just days before the accident according to Moffat’s Facebook page.

Over the weekend, the Lagos state police command arrested 57 suspected homosexuals who were allegedly being initaited into the act of homosexuality. The 57 suspects were paraded before newsmen yesterday.

Nigerian gayrights activist, Bisi Alimi, has reacted to the arrest. Bisi on his Facebook page, wrote
''People have parties in Lagos everyday. Sometimes the parties have more men than women and sometimes more women than men.
The idea that there is a “gay party” or a “gay initiation party” is nothing but lack or responsibilities from the part of our police and government.
Those innocent people are a victim of their poverty. Whether they are gay or not is not the issue, the issue is, they are poor and they will pay the highest price for being poor in a country that celebrate stolen wealth.

A closed-door meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission and the National Assembly is currently ongoing in Abuja over the 2019 election budget.




The National Assembly joint committee on INEC has begun the consideration of harmonised version of the 2019 election budget, reports.
The lawmakers went into a closed-door session after the co-Chairman, Suleiman Nazif, said the opening prayers and asked members to introduce themselves.


After the introductions, a member of the committee moved a motion for the meeting to go into a closed-door session, the motion was seconded and passed. The chairman now asked reporters to leave the hall.

After nearly two months of frantic search and fervent prayers National Daily authoritatively reported that Elo Ogidi was found. The four-year-old went missing during a church service in Lagos .

Elo was left in the care of her minder during the church’s children thanksgiving service on the day she went missing.
The Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Lagos Police Command, Bulus Musa, had confirmed the incident as a case of kidnapping and promised to investigate it.
National Daily gathered from impeccable sources that she was found in Benin City , Edo State Capital, in an Orphanage (names withheld).

Men and officers of the Police who accompanied the Church’s Security cordoned off the area before moving in at about 4.30pm to conduct a search on the kids in the orphanage during which Elo was identified with the photos sent by her parents. Her pictures were immediately taken after she was located and sent to the head of the Church’s Security who equally confirmed the identity.
The photos showed a happy Elo with a low cut in dirty clothes, against the cleaner, nicely made hair she wore before she went missing.

It was further disclosed that as soon the parents arrived in Lagos a video call was initiated between them and the police to ascertain the authenticity of the claim, during which Elo even identified her parents and sibling, and that convinced the police who have requested that the parents come to physically identify their child.



“So we were in Ghana this morning, A4 was with me. Suddenly he got a message from a woman who sent him a picture asking if that was his daughter and that she saw Elo in an orphanage in Benin. She gave the name of the orphanage and the address. Immediately he took up phone and called our security head in Lagos and gave him all the details as the lady gave us. He said we should give him an hour and he alerted a team of the Church Security in Benin. In collaboration with Edo Police Command operatives they immediately rounded up the place and found Elo in the said orphanage. Of course we got on the plane and headed straight for our security head’s office.

There we made a video call to Benin where the commissioner of police put Elo on the call. Elo screamed in ecstacy when she saw her parents and her older sister Treasure…. she identified all of them while jumping happily and even told A4 “daddy they barbed my hair”. Praise God she’s found.” Said PU a close friend of the family on Kingschat a leading social networking platform.

He added: “Friends and family have been calling in and celebrating this miracle of God giving God praises and worship.”

An apparently aggrieved young boy has declared he wants to become a soldier who will go on rampage and kill many Boko Haram terrorists.


According to a reports, a 12-year-old internally displaced person at the Abuja IDPs camp, simply identified as Subairu, has called on the federal government to come to their aid.


Subairu, who is from Gwoza in Borno State, while speaking with Tribune on Saturday lamented their plights, disclosing that he would love to be a soldier when he grows up and kill at least 1,000 Boko Haram terrorists.
He said: “It is true that some of us don’t have shoes or sandals to wear. When I grow up, I want to be a soldier. I want to be able to kill the Boko Haram terrorists. I want to kill at least 1,000 of them.
“We don’t have anything in our house here in the camp. I miss Gwoza. I miss my grandmother, my father and my other relations in Gwoza. I don’t have a school uniform. It is not easy coming to school without these things.”
Subairu, who said he was not finding school easy as a result of hunger, poor amenities and lack of care, appealed to the government to come to their aid.
Another 12-year-old, Aliyu Bakura, a primary five student, while lamenting on the plight of the pupils, also begged the federal government to provide them with food, uniforms and sandals.
“During the break time, we have nothing to eat. We don’t eat anything throughout school hours. We have food at home, but it is not enough to bring to school. My father and mother are in the house. I have three brothers and a sister in the school. We are from the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. My teachers teach me very well. I learn all the subjects.
“I want to become a doctor when I grow up. I want the government to help us. They should give us food, school uniforms and shoes,” he pleaded.

A robbery suspect has confessed to Police and news reporters that he engaged in robbery to raise money for his cattle business.

The police in Niger State have arrested two suspected motorcycle thieves terrorising the Magama Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects – Buba Auta, 30, of Lade village Fulani Camp and Na-Allah Shekere, 30, of Koso village in Magama – were nabbed by the police detectives attached to Nasko Division based on a tip-off.


Northern City News gathered that their victims, Saidu Shehu and Moses Andrawus, both of Majame village, were robbed of one Bajaj motorcycle on their way to Salka.
Checks revealed that the victims were attempting to remove a barricade on the road when the suspects emerged from the bush, inflicted injuries on them and made away with their motorcycle.


One of the suspects, Shekere, told our correspondent that he engaged in robbery to raise money for cattle business.
‘I am a farmer but the money I’m making was not enough to start cattle rearing business which required substantial amount of money and now that l am in the police net, my hope and aspiration is dashed.


“I have wicked relations who never bothered to help anyone; in fact, they contibuted to the hopeless situation in which I found myself; Allah will judge them,” he said.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the suspects admitted to the crime, adding that a cutlass was recovered from them.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday promised that his administration would jail more looters who caused the nation’s economic woes.Buhari made the promise in an interview he granted shortly after he returned to the country from London, United Kingdom where he spent his 10-day working vacation.

When asked what Nigerians should expect from him on resumption, the President said, “Most Nigerians are expecting that we are going to jail more of the thieves that brought economic problem to the country. I think that is being expected of me and I will do it.”



Buhari who also fielded questions on the recent defection of politicians, especially that of Godswill Akpabio from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, said it was part of the beauty of democracy.

He said under democracy, individuals have the choice of identifying with political parties of their choice.Buhari however advised politicians to provide the necessary dividends of democracy to the people.

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the President also urged politicians to sensitise their constituents to get their Permanent Voter Cards.This, he said, would enable them to freely vote for the candidates of their choice during the elections.He said, “Defection should be appreciated as the beauty of democracy. People can choose the party they want to belong to.

“Let them make sure that they empower their constituents by educating them on voters registration and making sure that they get their Permanent Voter Cards and they use their rights as Nigerians to vote whoever they like across ethnicity and religion. “This is a beauty of democracy in Nigeria, this is what I am hoping to see.”

Buhari wrote the letter titled “Resumption of Office” shortly after he returned to Nigeria from London, United Kingdom where he remained throughout the vacation period.The President’s letter to the National Assembly read, “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended),

I write to intimate the Senate (House of Representatives) that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from today, Saturday, August 18, 2018,after my vacation.“Please accept, Distinguished Senate President, (Hon. The Edo State Police Command on Friday, paraded a 14-year-old girl, who allegedly killed her septugenarian madam in Benin, Edo State by smashing her head with a stone.

Anna Amos, a secondary school student was arrested by the police on Tuesday, for the murder of 71-year-old Hellen Adodo, whom she had lived with since March, 2018, as a house-maid.


Anna, from Abuja, gave the step-by-step description of how she committed the murder, when she was paraded alongside 101 other criminal suspects arrested by the police.

The teenager who was in tears all thorough the period, narrated how her victim had treated her fairly all the years she lived with her.

She however blamed her dastardly act on influence of unseen voodoo spirit which possessed her.


According to the suspect, in the morning of that fateful day, she boiled water for the deceased to bathe, after which she served her her meal, before she killed her.
“After that?, I packed the dirty plates outside to wash them. As I opened the door and stepped on the varanda, something just came into my body as if possessing me. I no longer know what I was doing and I abandoned the plates? I was supposed to wash. I stood on the stone, and later took it, went inside with it and hit it on her head,” she narrated.


"I do not know what entered my body. It was a spirit. It told me to go and kill her. She did not offend me.” she added.
The deceased was initially reported to have died after her head was smashed with a stone by unknown persons who allegedly sneaked into her residence on Guobadia Street, in Benin, at about 7am. The assailants suposedly blindfolded the teenage suspect before killing the septuagenarian.


When asked why she earlier said some people came into their house, gagged her mouth before smashing the head of the late woman, Anna blamed her dastardly act on influence of unseen voodoo spirit which possessed her.
“The thing that entered into me was controlling me, it told me that if I expose it, it will kill me.”
She later confessed her crime to the son of the deceased, who handed her to the police operatives.


A clip obtained by journalists on Wednesday showed the teenager confessing to the crime in the presence of some residents in the area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, had stated that the Command received a distress call over the matter at about 8:30 am.


Nwabuzor also disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
“At about 8:30 am, the Divisional Police Officer of New Etete Police Station received a distress call that the woman in question was murdered. The DPO went there and found her lifeless body in her house in a pool of blood from the head region and a stone close to the body. The (distress) caller said that two men came into the residence, murdered the woman and went away. The DPO went there with operatives only to find the body on the ground in a pool of blood from the head region.


Then on investigation, it was revealed today that a girl who was staying with her, named Anna Amos, who came from the North with the help of the daughter of the late woman, was the one that killed the woman.


“Confession was made by this Anna Amos that she actually killed the woman. Anna Amos is 14 years old and by law, she is still a minor. But we will do all we can to see what we can do. We will not rely on the confession of that girl because she might not be the one responsible for the killing of that woman.

According to investigation, the woman has been going through a lot of challenges with her health and before her death, she was down with a stroke. Perhaps somebody else did and asked this little girl to own up as the culprit. So, investigation in ongoing. We will try our best to unravel the situation and the report will be made public,” Nwabuzor said.

A 28-year-old man was yesterday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly refusing to pay a commercial sex worker after she rendered her services.

Sunday Omale, an Uber driver who lives at Alhaja Elesin Street, Ogudu, is facing an assault charge occasioning bodily harm after having three rounds of sex with one Precious Mustapha, 28. The accused was alleged to have refused to pay the N6, 000 she charged him after they met at the Afrika Shrine, Ikeja.

Prosecuting Sergeant Lucky Ihiehie said the accused committed the offence on July 29 at Ogudu. Iheihei said Omale allegedly assaulted the complainant after sleeping with her.

The prosecution said an argument ensued when Omale claimed he did not have cash on him to pay her. He suggested using his ATM card to withdraw for her and they got in his car, but Omale drove with the sex worker round Ikeja and Ogudu axis without stopping at any bank to use his ATM card.

The prosecution said Omale also deceived the complainant by driving her to his friend’s house under the pretext of collecting money from him to pay her. But the friend drove them out of his house.

“When it became clear to the accused that there was no place where he could get money, he used an object to hit Precious Mustapha on the head and started beating her,’’ Ihiehie said, according to reports.

Magistrate E. Kubeinje admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties who must have evidence of tax payment for two years. The magistrate adjourned the case until September 25.
