The police in Niger State have arrested a 25-year-old-man, Nasiru Bala, of the Suleja Local Government Area of the state for car theft.

It was learnt the police operatives, on January 4, 2019, arrested the suspect with a Toyota Camry with number plate, Nasarawa AKW 722 AA.

Northern City News gathered that the suspect received the car in December 2018 from a man simply identified as Usman from Gwagwalada, who allegedly stole the vehicle from one Akwa Mallo of the same address and gave it to the suspect to sell.

Bala confessed to his involvement in the sale of several stolen cars in the past. He told punch correspondent that he had sold several such cars and shared the proceeds with his accomplices.
He said, “I operate in Suleja-Minna axis and beyond, depending on the location of the cars. We have many customers who patronise us across the country.

“Usman introduced me to this business; I thought it was a genuine business until I found myself in the police net.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, said the operatives recovered the stolen car from the suspect, adding that he would be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on January 7, 2019 secured the conviction of Mustapha Babangida for a one-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust to the tune of N2.5 million.

Babangida was brought before Justice Ibrahim Karaye of the Kano State High Court for defrauding Obi Bartholomew, in a fraudulent business deal involving the importation of drugs from Turkey into Nigeria.

The petitioner alleged that sometime in May 2018, Babangida presented himself to him as a businessman who deals in the importation of drugs from Turkey. Bartholomew, convinced about the deal, subsequently invested N2 million, having been promised a mouth-watering interest of N500, 000.

Afterwards, Babangida approached him for an additional N150, 000 “to clear the goods”.

Bartholomew alleged that the accused person issued him two cheques of N2.5 million and N150, 000 dated May 19 and 22, 2018, which turned out to be dud cheques as they were returned unpaid, due to insufficient funds in the account.

He pleaded “guilty” to the charge when it was read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecuting counsel, Michael Ojo, prayed the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Defence counsel, Sani Amani, however, notified the court that Babangida had paid the entire sum in question, which was acknowledged by the nominal complainant and the EFCC.

Justice Karaye, thereafter convicted him and sentenced him to six months in prison with an option of N250, 000 as fine.

An alleged serial rapist, Solomon Imhontu, 45 and his wife have been arrested by the police in Delta state.

According to activist and leader of the Behind Bars Rights foundation, Prince Harrison Gwamnishu, Imhontu and his wife brought an eight year old girl into their home a few years ago. Sadly, for all the years she lived with them, the man had repeated sex with her and also got her pregnant and had abortions carried out on her with the help of his wife.

He was arrested today and a video of him confessing to having multiple sex with the girl was shared online.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned and secured the convictions of three Internet fraudsters, fondly referred to as “yahoo-yahoo boys”, on December 18, 2018.

The boys; Emeka Anyanechi Ekene, 27; Anthony Oghuma, 26, and Onokebhagbe Okouromi Franklin, 25 were brought before Justice D.Z. Senchi of a Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, Jabi, for various offences bordering on Internet fraud.

Ekene was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on cheating, and for specializing in inducing his victims through a Facebook account, to part with their hard earned money. The offence contravenes Section 95 of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990.

Oghuma, on his part, was arraigned on a one-count charge, bordering on obtaining by false pretence. He allegedly induced a Canadian who goes simply by the name, David, to transfer N2 million to him. The offence contravenes Section 320 (a) of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law.

Franklin was arraigned on a four-count charge, bordering on obtaining by false pretence, for inducing a New York-based divorcee who goes by the name, Mary, posing as Peter Mark, a Contractor based in Malaysia.

He swindled Mary of $10,000 (about N3.6million) and lured her to send him several expensive gadgets including: Apple Macbook Laptop, Apple Iphone X, Apple Iphone 7, amongst others. His offence contravenes Section 320 (a) of the Penal Code, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) 1990 and punishable under Section 322 of the same law.

They did not waste the time of the court as they all pleaded "guilty" to the charges.

Their journey to prison followed an intelligence report received by the EFCC on November 30, 2018, concerning the fraudulent activities of some fraudsters, housed by one Alheri E. B. Sajo, at Cluster 4, River Park in Abuja.

There was a mild drama in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital after a young man caught his wife with her female partner in a hotel.

Residents of Ekotedo area of Ibadan metropolis were reportedly woken up from sleep by the distress cry of a middle-aged woman, Martha, being beaten by her husband, who allegedly caught her with her female lover in a hotel.

According to Reporters, the couple, who are based in Benin City, Edo State, were reportedly invited to Ibadan by her step-father for a discussion over a misunderstanding between them, which was amicably settled.

A source disclosed that after the intervention of the step-father, the woman was said to have lodged at a hotel for the night because her husband had other engagements in town.

However, trouble started when the husband, Dickson, who had checked on her early in the morning, allegedly caught her in the act of Lesbianism.

Angry Dickson reportedly pounced on his wife and beat her to stupor. It was the noise of the woman that woke up the people in the area, who expressed surprise when they got the hint of what led to the scuffle.

The battered woman, who denied the allegation, reportedly went to Iddo Police Station to lodge complaints before going to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned members of his church to desist from using his pictures and that of his wife, Foluke, on souvenirs for sale. According to him, he is not God and can never share in God's glory.

The clergyman gave the warning on Friday December 7th at the ongoing annual Holy Ghost Congress of the church holding at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He said it had come to his notice that some members of his church have started seeing him as God that they use his photos and that of his wife on any of their materials. He appealed to them to stop it as he does not want to incur the wrath of God.

“It has been brought to my notice that people are using my picture and that of my wife on key holders, calendars, books and other souvenirs. This is wrong and anyone found with such materials should be arrested and reported to the police. I am not God. I did not send them. I have nothing to do with those materials. I am an ordinary man of God. God will never share his glory with any man. I am not ready to die. Devil, I am not ready to go.

If at any time, God is sensing that a man is trying to share his glory, the man is dead. If you find anyone selling anything whatsoever with my picture or my wife’s, report them to the police immediately.”

Four persons have been arrested by the police in Abia State for unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects are Udodirim Nwandu, William Enoch, Ezeudoh Onyebuchi and Friday Onuoha.

The commissioner of police in the state, Mr. Chris Ezike, who confirmed the arrests, said the suspects were apprehended by policemen on patrol around Mbom Afrata Ibeku in Umuahia, the state capital.

He said one automatic English-made double-barrelled gun, three Dane guns and 19 cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

Ezike said the suspects claimed to be hunters, adding that they would need to explain why they were in possession of prohibited firearms or be charged to Court.

Also in the command’s custody are four suspected cult members, identified as Gabriel Ofordozie, 39; Lucky Nwoye, 27; Chukwudimma Mezeh, 30; and Abuchi Ezekwe, 30.

It was learnt that they were arrested following intelligence report received by police detectives attached to Ndiegoro Police Division in Aba. Six revolver pistols were said to have been recovered from the suspects.

The suspects however denied that they were members of any secret cults. They claimed that hardship forced them to become armed robbers.

Born-again singer and rapper, Chukie Edozien, aka Lynxx, says it is not a sin to take alcoholic drinks. The rapper had reportedly been seen smoking at social functions but he had never addressed the issue.

While refusing to comment on reports of him smoking, he told Sunday Scoop,

“It is not a sin to drink (alcohol). What was Jesus’ first miracle in the Bible? He turned water to wine. I still hang out with my old friends in the entertainment industry.”

He argued that despite being a born-again Christian, he wasn’t doing gospel music. He said, “I am born-again, but I am not doing gospel music and I don’t do secular music again too. I cannot call myself a minister of God just because I performed at a gospel show. I don’t have a name for my kind of music. Lynxx stated that he hadn’t released a new song in a while because he took time off music. “I took a break because I needed to focus on business and my new found relationship with God in 2015. You could have a career but also have goals that might not be in line with what you do for a living. Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices and focus on other things before you get back to what you are known for,” he said.

The rapper maintained that he had never regretted his decision to quit secular music. He added, “God is the most important thing to me. You can never experience Christ in His true form and regret it. I don’t think there is anyone who can tell me that they have encountered the Holy Spirit and regretted it. It is impossible!”

After performing at the Catholic Church’s Unusual Praise concert two years ago, Lynxx explained why he didn’t perform at this year’s edition.

An Abeokuta Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isabo, on Friday, remanded a truck driver, Nurudeen Bashir in prison custody for allegedly assaulting a Vehicle Inspection Officer in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Bashir was accused of inflicting injuries on a motorcyclist while attempting to escape from the VIO. The prosecutor, Inspector Bukky Abolade, told the court that the accused was stopped by the VIO on duty last Wednesday at Aro in Abeokuta, but failed to produce his vehicle documents.

Abolade explained that Bashir drove one of the officials who entered his vehicle to Oke-Ata, where he and others at large assaulted the official. The Chief Magistrate, Adeola Adelaja, ordered that Bashir be remanded in the prison custody till December 14, when his application would be considered.

“I cannot be responsible for how people interpret a work of art. It is like a painting, a man would value a painting for millions of dollars but to the other man, it does not make sense. Art should be subjected to everyone’s interpretation. My interpretation of that form of art was made very obvious,” he said.

The veteran singer who further told Saturday Beats why it’s been difficult releasing another hit song that could rival, Yahooze, said;

“It is a different generation and a different era with a different demography. As an artiste; as you grow, your core demography changes.

“Yahooze came out in an era when there was no social media. Today, people’s patience to digest any material is very short; 11 years ago, it was not like that. If you had a hit song, it could last for about two years but these days you are competing with so many bodies of work and it would take something special for you to have the same kind of buzz that a song like Yahooze had.”

The Niger state police command has arrested sixteen-year-old Idrisu Muhammadu, pictured above, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Fatima Isah whom he accused of dating his older brother as well.

According to reports, Muhammadu who is from Evutagi village in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger state, was in a relationship with Fatima when he found out she was also seeing someone else. He threatened he would kill her if she leaves him for another man.

When he discovered that her father, Isah Evutagi, was about to give her to his older brother as a wife, he killed her. He later told police he had warned his brother to stop seeing his girlfriend but he refused.

“I told my brother to leave Fatimah for me because I planned to marry her, but he would not listen to me and he kept on seeing her until one day, I lost my temper and killed her. Look at what it has resulted to; I am now a murderer. I am going to spend all my life in jail from the age of 16; it is unfortunate.”

he told newsmen.

Confirming the incident, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammad Abubakar, said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation.
