On the Congolese issue, we are not really well informed on what actually happened on ground there; governments don't just take action recklessly without first verifying the true situation. What we saw on social media could be a very skewed version of whatever events occurred(we don't even know if it's the Nigerian ambassador, it's just hearsay), if the Nigerian ambassador was feeling threatened, he would have placed a call to the MoFA and the ONSA by now.

And it is even ridiculous that you think Nigeria will strike directly against another African country (without a collective regional mandate or support of multilateral institutions). Apart from the fact that we don't have the means to launch unilateral kinetic operations against far away Congo, our foreign policy has Africa as it's centrepiece,hence,we are tied by constitutional obligations of "Africa first". If at all the social media reports are true(which I am certain they are not), we can only issue strongly worded statements, recall our ambassador and send a "high powered" diplomatic delegation to Kinshasa.

Just look at the rubbish you wrote defending a failure of governance. It is on YouTube. What further evidence do you need. The ambassador himself was seen on the street confirming the disgrace. Really how old are u cos ur write up points to a kid excited to be heard.

As much as I hate to say it by all indications Nigeria is now a failed state under Buhari by reason of what happened to our embassy in Kinshasa which is a culmination of failure of governance at all levels. States don't spit in your face unless they know you can do nothing about it. That embassy is sovereign Nigerian territory and by diplomatic protocol can never be trespassed even if murder was committed inside it. How can you even dare write that rubbish you wrote. If Nigeria wasn't a failed state and acting its size that would never have happened and that it happened you actually act big brother by the signal you send out and that is a measure of some show of political, diplomatic, economic and above all within the context of Africa a military posture either by warning or some sort of maneuver whether home or elsewhere nearby so they get the message. If this is let to pass very soon the smallest of the smallest countries will do worse to us. Countries respond corresponding to their clout that's why the US bombed Syria before questions were asked at the UN. I feel more has to be done to curtail this embarrassing rivalry between our security forces. This is certainly not the first time one security agency has had a deadly shootout against another; Nigeria is such a place that any serving colonel, if sufficiently enraged, can point a finger and order his men to wipe out an entire police station.

Of course,this lack of interforce cohesion isn't unique to Nigeria or even Africa, but as a country facing myriads of security problems,one would expect more professionalism from our armed forces.


In this particular case,the army has a lot to anwser for(the fact that they haven't replied the police's recent press release simply suggests that either they have accepted guilt for the incident or they are cooking up more lies). It clearly appears that the arrested suspect has strong military connections, because the incident looks,feels and sounds like a jailbreak by the army.

To imagine that some of our finest intelligence operatives were wasted, ironically, by the government they worked for. I hope we not only get clarification on the issue,but also put mechanisms in place to ensure that issues such as this don't come up again in the future.

Stop chasing shadows saving face for a useless administration. Everything about the death of those officers can be traced back to the desk of the commander-in-chief. The consequences of his incompetence is unraveling in security failures across the country. How can u be so blind to reality. Let me help you it is under this administration of Buhari inter-agency rivalry shot through the roof for lack of direction. Under this government the role of the SSS has been subjugated so that we no longer know the premier domestic law enforcement agency of the state. These were all well streamlined by previous administrations beginning with Babangida but not too long ago under Buhari former heads of secret sensitive agencies are been hounded like rats for the slaughter as we saw in the DSS & NIA vs EFCC show of shame. Never happened before that an elite intelligence agency will be in public brawl of supremacy. The guys no longer know who is boss. And while the country is on a downward spiral the president is enroute to his village in Daura, Katsina state for 10 days instead of staying back in Abuja and demonstrating leadership becoming of a supposed "giant of africa" whose authority is now at its lowest been challenged by domestic and foreign enemies.

By now a hands on president would have had the Congolese ambassador and his essential staff on the next flight to Kinshasa while the Nigerian ambassador and entire embassy is evacuated for immediate consultations and at same time an F-7 supersonic flight is ordered over Kinshasa in a show of force.

In international diplomacy appearances matter.

While at it the army commander in that area of operation where those police intelligence officers were slain would be placed on temporary suspension pending the outcome of DHQ investigations.

Alas nothing of substance is happening but the most inept president is on his way to Sallah rendezvous.

In the Obasanjo days you think by now basing rights for combat troops are not been negotiated to deal with the belligerence of Kinshasa if for nothing at least as warning to others not to ever try such nonsense.

My dear brother,I see no reason for the cascade of tears and emotions you are displaying. It is simply a matter of understanding,but that's okay,not everybody is equipped to understand these things.

I have no problem with you disliking the president and his approach to governance, in many cases,I will even support you. My point is,even if you remove the president and APC, then put your PDP Atiku or Sowore or any other random pervenu off the streets of Abuja into government,you'd get the same or most probably, a worse performance than what we currently have.

The system is faulty, the constitution is riddled with loopholes and contradictions. The political system is dreadful; right from the citizenry to the party platforms to the electoral umpire,to the judiciary. Institutions are weak,and personal ambitions takes precedence over public interest. Even Saint Benedict the benevolent will have a hard time doing anything meaningful in such a system, he'd look like a clueless buffoon.

So I am not disagreeing with you, I am only encouraging you to see the larger perspective.

And the larger perspective is to restructure the country which your president Buhari promised but reneged upon assuming power like he reneged on everything else like the 5000 NGN for unemployed youths and 1 dollar to the Naira etc. That speaks of his integrity.

You noticed I don't join issues with u whether sentimental or emotional cos the facts speak for themselves. This country is badly run and enormous powers are vested in the presidency to change that and you don't give excuses when elected, you change for the better what you find on ground. Buhari has had four years yet still blaming those four years on others. If Obasanjo did that we would not have paid off the Paris Club Debts or ever launched our first satellite or brought GSM to Nigeria. If Yar'Adua and Jonathan did that there would not have been a Nigeria for Buhari to rule. The truth is this APC government is evil.

We have only retrogressed under Buhari not progressed. We come here and sing praises of our military but those are individualistic efforts of patriots like Air Marshal Abubakar and the troops on the ground not the leadership of the country. How can a country of Nigeria's size not be flying fifth generation aircraft by now or modern Frigates and Destroyers. Something not impossible with the right leadership. People are quick to crucify the PDP but it was the PDP administrations that gave us our first stealth warships/OPVs, T-72s, F-7s, Mi-35s, SBS, satellites, increased NIA & SSS funding and even Abuja to a large extent. Yet APC propaganda tell us they did these things, something they already met on the table.

I tell you with all the PDP corruption say Atiku were president instead of Buhari you can expect to see major start up funding of some 5 billion dollars for our military with a shopping list for modern armaments and we wouldn't have had to wait for 4 months for a ministerial list of half dead men. Abubakar Atiku already had his economic adviser Prof. Chike doing the rounds with detailed plans of his programs for all sectors of the economy including the military. Atiku even had an agreement with our elders from North to South to restructure the country. I use Atiku cos he had a better chance of winning a fair election. Tinubu wan be president by force so a sick man must be foisted on us by all means to that end. I hope you try to read the intelligence between the lines. If you know how these evil men seek to stranglehold this country you would not only call for revolution you will call for worse.

Look at our young queuing at embassies to run. A country is only as strong as it's people. Instead of supporting mediocrity everyone should be ashamed we are were we are today. I feel you are displaying too much sentiments. Which known "convention of power rotation" are you talking about?, Is power rotation in the Constitution?. When people construct statements in certain ways,it makes one suspect that they are stoking an ethnic undertone. Even if we were to imagine such scenarios,where were certain ethnic groups when APC was mobilizing to take power in 2015?, same people distanced themselves from the new party,claiming it was a northern party. Now 6 years along the line,some people want to reap where they didn't sow, claiming a fictitious convention of power rotation that exists only in the dusty leaflets of Harry Potter. I will be the first to agree that governance in Nigeria is zero, but I think it's something that should be addressed constitutionally and consciously as citizens. The problem with revolutions is that it breeds dictators, whether good or bad. But in the end,there is probably no good dictator. Even if the leader turns out to be a benevolent dictator and devotes his lifetime to building a great country,when he dies,all he has built will come crashing down in the inferno of political instability that will ensue.

So,as much as many will like to blame Buhari and APC,we need to put sentiments aside and understand that the structure is very faulty.

A nationwide march/protest in the interest of security and social needs is just and the way to go; couching it in terms such as Revolution was the wrong move.

The word revolution in itself is not a bad word depending on how you adduce it. There's violent revolution and there's peaceful revolution. The Nigerian people have every right to revolt against a government that does not care for it but only exists for itself. This is a country that citizens are molested by it's own government that has not provided one dynamic social service since inception rather taking us back by every matrix of measuring social development indicators.

Such a useless president in Buhari. I regretted ever having supported that man to get there in the first place. See our people treated like garbages around the world. Our military asked to fight with lean means and dying everyday against a better motivated enemy while them and their children go abroad for the best medical care yet send wounded soldiers to die in ill-equipped hospitals. How bad can it get. Other north african countries where there's been revolution like Algeria or even Sudan has not had an absentee president like this. Enough is enough. People should wake up.

I assume the nearest African country you insinuate is within SADC. Your open source info on Nigeria's federal budget still won't reflect the realities of an opaque budget. Nigeria is not South Africa. Reason corruption still thrives the way it does in Nigeria is yet again funds not accounted for in the official appropriation bill sent to the National Assembly every year by the president. An example are the security votes that are classified to which only the president is privy. State Governors too enjoy the same privilege to unaccounted for security votes within their jurisdiction. Funds for the office of the NSA to a large extent are classified and so are funds for the NIA, DSS and other clandestine operations some funded directly without any oversight.

Besides the two states have completely different budget systems when you factor in debt, politics and purchasing power parity (PPP). Having a 90 billion dollar budget does not equate a richer economy (most of the money could be borrowed anyway to fund the huge budget) compared to a country with less when exchange rate is factored in and debt to GDP ratio plus the wealth of a country is calculated by the totality of goods and services in a given year known as GDP.

While Nigeria's President Buhari maybe AWOL and the most useless we've ever had yet the dynamics inspite of him points on a macro economic level Africa's largest economy albeit slower. South Africa's national budget is ineffectual in meeting its increasing social problems albeit with a better president in Ramaphosa.

The right word to use is Federal Budget vs your National Budget. Nigeria is a Federal State with 36 sub-national states each with it's own Chief Executive and Budgetary Processes and then there's the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (FCT) with it's own Federal Minister and it's own huge Federal allocation in the Federal Governments Budget. SA on the other hand is a Unitary State with a National Budget provision.

Besides, Nigeria has supplementary budget provisions and many State entities has extra budgetary provisions for sensitive national security assets and social programs. Nigeria's budgetary process is opaque.

And to be clear some states in Nigeria have budgets larger than the next 35 African countries combined.

3. The Chadian Army are better managers of equipment. He said the Chadian military has far older weapons but that they ensure everything is working. The task force they sent over is 100% mobile, but the Nigerian Army struggles to maintain Hilux Pickups talkless of modern tanks.

He said the Chadians were suprised at the poor state of our army, that they doubted our ability to defeat Boko Haram, the said Chadians dont run from battle when Boko Haram attacks but that the Nigerians do.

4. The bulk of Boko Haram Haram weapons are captured from the Nigerian Army. He said the NA will declare trucks or Artillery as unservicable but Boko Haram will capture same assets and get then to work.

5. There are sufficient arms delivered to the NA. He said before he got to his post he read about "lack of arms" but found out that was not true....the army had lots of arms but did not know how to maintain or deploy them

6. There is zero air cover. I asked him about the attack helicopters, he said they were grounded. He said Nigerian Army preferred the Niger Airforce (not Nigerian) and Chadian Airforce to conduct close strike Air to Surface operations because the have better and dedicated ground attack planes like the Sukhoi flown by Eastern Europeans.

7. He said the recruits coming out of training to join the Nigerian Army are sub par training and standards have really fallen.

8. Many Forward Operations Bases have been overan by Boko Haram. The Nigerian Army has been forced to destroy their own equipment as they flee, including our modern T72 tanks

9. He says money or even equipment is not the problem, he says there is no leadership of purpose and that many military men are "breaking protocol" just to survive

I think we get the picture. I am just posting this with the hope that something good will come out of this.

Believe me, I will very much like to emulate you; it can be very addictive and ego boosting to bask in former glories. Fortunately,I choose instead to take the harsher alternative of accepting the truth of the matter.


Trying to paint this BH insurgency as a conflict that is beyond the comprehension or capabilities of the human race, so as to justify the sorry state of our military is not a sincere thing to do. We have had(and still have) nations on this continent who have fought more terrible assymetric insurgencies than BH. Those countries are still standing today.

I bid you goodluck and hope you don't get too demystified. On my part, I think we nationalists owe it to our people and to the brave men and women who have payed the supreme sacrifice due to the poor situation of things,to speak the truth.

The Boko terror insurgency is very much beyond human comprehension and no other state has had to deal with such madness not even Sri Lanka and Algeria with all the atrocities that happened there doesn't come close. It's so bad that ISIS had to issue guidelines which are to this day a friction among boko hardliners who want to go on strapping little girls below ten years old as human bombs. Listen what is going on up there is pure madness which is the only military language to define it. As I've said u got no clue.

There is something about humans or better said peoples. You go to Germany and wonder the modern world that exists there and u go just next door to Poland and further to Ukraine and there's no much difference the way they do things like developing countries. We are fighting mostly Nigerians here and that's the crux of the problem. We are witty, crafty, intelligent etc. That should tell you something.

Look, I am not interested in making comments just to be "heard"(as you put it),neither do I care much for the pointless task of being an arm-chair security expert. Might I be so bold as to remind you(and others of like mind) that people hearing my opinions on issues neither adds a single kobo to my bank account nor grants me the coveted gift of immortality. So why do you think I would waste so much of my precious time trying to rack up the volume of posts I have here?.


If your opinion differs from mine,I will accept it and tell you why I think you are wrong. That doesn't mean I am a pessimist or unpatriotic or trying to put down the military.

I have always believed,and still do,that the Nigerian military is grossly under-funded,under-armed,and lacking in discipline. If you choose to deceive yourself all in the name of blind patriotism or some sense of superior knowledge, I say goodluck. Far poorer countries like Sudan,Chad,Senegal,etc are better equipped than our military, especially the army.


If Nigeria does not curtail this BH insurgency in the nearest future,more countries in the region will become affected,and begin taking extraordinary measures(measures that could challenge our sovereignty). It is a fact devoid of selective myopia.

At least the "absentee" President has succeeded in ordering various military hardwares that will increase our capabilities; releasing money,and at least having most of the money used for what it is meant for. Every military is underfunded. The Nigerian military is not under-armed and lack discipline. The errors of a few does not make the whole. You see, there you go with sensational remarks that don't hold up to scrutiny.

Pls tell us which military hardware this president has ordered. The military is a continuous entity and what you see especially for the air force or navy has been in the pipeline since the advent of democracy from the Obasanjo years. The military has short term, medium term and long term acquisition plans. So tell us what this president ordered and pls don't mention the GULMA.

I hear you say poorer countries like Senegal et al, are better equipped than Nigeria. You see where you got no clue? Cos you hear high sounding armaments without knowing with what sub-munitions these countries acquire them. Most are stripped down weapons by their suppliers who are lobbied by regional and foreign powers to maintain the balance of power in the region. So Sudan is better armed but on its watch South Sudan split and is now a sovereign state and Darfur still in rebellion. Didn't see Sudan in game changing contact with the enemy. Didn't hear that about Biafra though, MEND, Liberia or Sierra Leone. Senegal is better armed but Nigeria brought the game changing hard assets that sent Jammeh scurrying from the state house in Banjul. And what was it that Senegal deployed that the lone NN stealth warship off the waters of Gambia and the NAF couldn't have used for target practice obliteration in a few hours or in days to make sure.

You are looking in the wrong places. Start looking at the real force posture in actionable terms. You really think those countries can stand a war with Nigeria then we just end the conversation to have even mentioned Chad that we whupped twice and would do so again if necessary seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

We are in a fratricidal war beyond the known asymmetric text book war. Boko haram I continue to say comes to die not fight. If BHT existed elsewhere in Africa it would long since have succeeded in caving out it's own Islamic Caliphate in Northern Borno which is its stated goal and something which the finest men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces has stopped from happening against all odds. This deserves commendation and not your apparent bias which still questions your stated claim of being a 'nationalist'.

To clear your doubts. Military planners look at threats in a given region both present and future ones and based on those threats and associated dynamics make assessments for necessary procurements factoring budget, costs, maintenance, supply, training. And of course not everything on the list gets approved by the powers that be as we have seen with different administrations but the core of it of course is met.

Take for example Nigeria in West and Central Africa. With all the Boko Haram, bandits and criminality plaguing the land it is still the regional hegemon politically, economically and militarily. Speaking in military terms it has the oil, money and human capital to fight, sustain and win a war against all of its neighbors combined. In real terms by combat capabilities today the armed forces of Nigeria can roll over any of these countries in a conventional war.

I continue to maintain that we are better armed and trained than we ever were in our history. The only area I find the missing point is the current leadership and I don't just mean the service chiefs with the exception of the Air Chief, I mean the president. It is the prerogative of the president to sack and appoint competent leadership for the military something in dire need of presently for critical thinking, new impetus, new ideas and fresh eyes on the battle space. Hence I submit we have an apparent absentee president whose ineptitude smacks to high heavens thus clogging the wheel of bringing this terror insurgency to a swift end.

Now we will take the Air Force as an example of what is working in the current Order of Battle. Had to say the above for clarity and perhaps end your pessimism. The NAF inventory is currently over 80% active and expecting to induct 4++ generation warplanes that obviously will be game changing. The Tucano with its loiter ability and sensor-to-kill time span is a beast in the air. The JF-17 especially the Block 3 changes the air superiority question from Cape to Cairo. However, Abuja faces no threat and I repeat no threat from Cairo, Algiers or Pretoria and these are the only three states capable of trying anything silly from within Africa. So save the breath on twin engines for now.

The NAF is looking at cost effective measures to meet current threats and bridge the gap for force protection and projection within Nigeria, the waters of the GoG down to Angola and the sub-region. For ground attack and CAS the Alpha Jets, L-39s and other subsonic aircrafts in the hands of NAFs very skillful and young fighter pilots are still adequate in a low threat environment and the results in the North-East speaks for itself regardless of BHT strategy of remaining and propaganda.

For Air Defence & Interdiction and in some cases for CAS the NAF's relatively new F-7s near squadron strength with its excellent radar, avionics suite and panoply of weapon systems, easy to maintain, nimble size and fast turn rates in all weather along with ground based radars, satellite capabilities, excellent pool of the finest pilot skills can meet the current threats we face and even potential threats for another decade or more. Don't expect the F-7s to be phased out even with the arrival of new platforms.

This should settle the nuances.

Training units upon units of special forces combatants simply to protect air assets?,where are the air assets that needs such level of protection; a couple of push-to-start alpha jets, two rusty F7s and an unknown number of unspecified drones?.

I commend the CAS for his efficiency and transformational strides in recent years,there is no denying that he is the best service chief we have had throughout this BH insurgency. What worries me is how sustainable some of these policies are. A large NAF infantry will require huge resources yearly.

Can you stop being petty! The Alpha Jets are still in good shape, refurbished and bridging the gap until attrition replacements for future wars and the F7s are relatively new and a better version of the old Mig-21 variant with which India successfully countered a Pakistani F-16 despite having comparable aircraft.

What matters are the sub-systems on the jets and what roles they play for counter air or ground attack Ops. Besides Nigeria is not facing air threats from all azimuths by capable state actors to warrant buying jets expensive to maintain and budget depleting.

The Air Force continue to do very well under the circumstances whilst waiting the arrival of new 4++ generation acquisitions.

Irrespective of the shortcomings of the Nigerian military in the war against insurgency, people forget that the Nigerian military is deployed all over Africa.

In West and Central Africa, Nigerian troops are deployed in 8 countries. Cameroun, Chad, Niger, Mali, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Benin republic and Gambia.

In Gambia, Nigeria led that intervention. We paid for the operation, we deployed 1,200 Troops from the army, 400 Air Force QRF, 1 Navy Ship, SBS Special forces personnel and 6 aircrafts. The largest contributor.

So irrespective of our challenges, we would continue to be a military and political leader in Africa.

Look at the Nigerian Defence industry, it didn't exist in 2013, yet today we have become one of the leaders in military vehicle manufacturing in Africa.

We have made tremendous progress, well anyone who doubts can start of by naming the countries that have defeated Islamic insurgency in it's current form.

You forgot to mention Guinea Bissau and other ad hoc military staff & advisers scattered around the world.

Plus we are literally footing the bill of the MNJTF with HQ in Ndjamena, Chad and clandestine funding by the NIA of the intelligence agencies of most countries in the Sahel and Central Africa or whatever there is of it to track down ISWAP Jihadists headed to the NE.

We must not forget Idris Deby Itno is to all intents and purposes paid hard currency by Abuja to continue to play ball.

And yes no one country has comprehensively defeated terrorists today as we know them. The problem with the war in the North-East remains the brain thrust of the war from the C-in-C down to the planners at DHQ.
