Good that a woman is elected but has she got the requisite will/desire to make the change needed to better the lives of the citizens of her state? If not, granted it’s symbolic, but it’s not worth celebrating.

I used to think women would make better leaders than men due to their emotional intelligence. However, I don’t think any woman globally has shown that in the last 50yrs and they always end up being worse.

The worst 2 Secretary of State the US has had (Hilary Clinton and Madeleine Albright) are women.?The worst 3 and arguably the most hated PMs the UK has had are women. Then you look at all these tiny dot Baltic countries with no military that stay threatening a nuclear power like Russia and sabre rattling because they’re in NATO are all led by women (the ones governed by men don’t use the same aggressive rhetoric). Etc.

I think most women in power tend to still bend over for a higher authority and get too emotional in trying to please that authority. Hence I can’t celebrate a woman attaining a leadership position - until I see her track record.

Not exactly. Lagos was originally Eko, a trading post established by the Benin Kingdom. Before then it was probably a fishing outpost for Aworis and the Eguns from Badagry. The Portuguese came and made it their main trading post and thus renamed it Lagos. The British took over, made it their slave post on the way to Badagry which was the main slave port. During colonization, the British made it their administrative capital, they actually attempted to set up a colony in Lagos. That's why almost all roads, buildings and infrastructures on Lagos was named after British Royals and amniniststrors until they began to change them fairly recently.
Beforw independence the status Lagos was contentious. The Yorubas wanted Lagos handed over to Western Nigeria, the others opposed and demanded it to be defined as belonging to all Nigerians, aka no man's land. At the end of the day, Lagos was defined as belonging to all Nigerians, and the post independent capital remained there. Please note that the capital of western nigeria remained in Ibadan. The road that leads from Lagos to Western Nigeria was named Western Avenue.
In 1967 General Gowon created 12 states with Lagos State as one of them. He then joined Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry, Ikeja, etc, from western nigeria into Lagos.
Then the migrations started. Yorubas from all over the former Western Region migrated to Lagod. Igbos who lost everything during the civil war faced Lagos. Even northerners from all over former northern nigeria started migrating to Lagos.
Today Lagos has become overpopulated and under tremendous social problems. Everyone now wants to claim Lagos now. If something is not done to decongest Lagos by developing other urban centres even in Yoruba land, Lagos will literallyexplode.t

No, Eko already had settlements with fishermen and hunters before Benin got there. And Benin got to Lagos with the Itsekiris after their war against the Mahin (Ilaje) - in search of the Mahin leader. Eguns are part of the larger Aja people that can be found in Benin (the country) and Togo and I doubt they were anywhere in Eko at this point in history.

Also, the Portuguese didn't make Eko their main trading post - the Portuguese trading was in Victoria Island which was given to them by the Ijebu and the Portuguese name for it was: Lago De Curamo. Lago De Curamo was corrupted by the Brits - to Lagos - after their arrival. The Brits went with the Portuguese name for their trading post and decided to call the whole place Lagos.

At this stage and with the current situation in Lagos - violence would most likely be the answer. You don't use diplomacy with animals - especially armed ones. Violence seems like the only language Igbos understand based on how they have been tamed in other parts of Nigeria.

I don't know your depth of understanding of Yoruba culture/tradition. However, for a lot of Yoruba Obas in Lagos to declare Oro festivals all over Lagos state at the eve of an election - it shows something is brewing. Oro festival is part of the war ritual in a lot of eastern Yoruba groups like the Ilaje, Ikale and Ijebu.

The CofO should be reviewed too. How many CofO do Igbo states give to Yoruba or businesses owned by Yoruba, if this is not balanced, cancel some CofO and pay them compendation then place an embargo on further Cof O to Igbo until their states of origin give equal amount to Yoruba in Igboland.

Public schools and health services are absolutely important so same should apply. If you come to Lagos as an Igbo and your state has not done anything to favour the Yoruba in your state, you will get nothing and you can only lease not outrighy purchase. If you want to buy land, it should be 70:30 ownership with an indigene. Same can be adopted in Igboland.

Jobs and admission to schools can go back to how it was in pre-1999. All the slots must first be filled by the Yoruba and whatever is left will now be alloted on the principle of reciprocity.
Streets naming application at LGs should follow same.

If there are 50 Igbo street names in Lagos, give 50 streets in your state Yoruba names too while Lagos stops new application and revoke existing ones until their states of origin reciprocate.

You're an idealist with pipe dreams. I know you like building castles in the air but you have to be realistic sometimes. Granted the governor of a state is in control of all the land within the state. However, as long as Lagos exist within Nigeria: you can't just revoke the CofO of lands people bought legitimately. Especially when there's a pattern that a particular ethnic group is being targeted. They will file a Class Action lawsuit and will most likely win.

Only traditional rulers have a better chance at reclaiming lands, if they can find a loophole to exploit, like the Ojora family did because they're protected by customary laws. Keep dreaming after wetting the bed - hopefully, you'll wake up without slobbering too much.

That said, Lagos Island was forcefully signed away by King Dosunmu on a British warship, to British empire - with threats of heavy bombardment if he didn’t sign it. However, it was reclaimed back in 1921, in a court in London, when an Awori Idejo Chief, Chief Amodu Tijani, sued the British empire for forcefully taking the Land. He was represented by Herbert Macaulay and won - with £22,500 as compensation and the land was returned.

Attached are the pictures of the British war ship where King Dosunmu signed away the land under duress and pictures of Chief Amodu Tijani.

All these guys contesting in Lagos, a Yoruba state, expressing their affinity with foreigners - either by blood, language, meetings or wearing the traditional regalia - is disgraceful.
