omohayek: And here we have another Obi supporter, living up to all the stereotypes. How many converts are you expecting to win over through ad hominems? How does calling me a "hater" answer any of my questions about the man and his movement?
Really? What are those plans, and where can I read up on them? And how is it a mark of "integrity" to break the law by setting up hidden accounts in offshore tax havens, 4 years after becoming governor?
No facts, just insults and bald assertions in flagrant contradiction of well-attested public evidence. Thanks for providing such a vivid illustration of everything that is wrong with your sham of a tribalistic campaign masquerading as a political movement. I don't need to convince you. I don't even want to convince you. The man has a track record. Go and start from that. |

omohayek: None of them. I consider it the height of madness to pick a candidate based on tribe or religion without knowing what the candidate stands for and how he or she plans to achieve said ends. I'm waiting to hear what the candidates' actual policy proposals are, how they intend to pay for them, and whether they can be trusted to follow through on their promises if they win.
Atiku's plans for deregulation and privatisation sound very appealing, but the man himself has such a shady past in such matters that I don't know how much I should believe anything he says. Tinubu's desire to widen the tax base and massively improve education spending are also very positive steps, and he's also made clear that he will finally get rid of the idiotic multiple-exchange-rate scheme, but I worry that he will otherwise leave intact most of the statist bloat that Buhari has put in place. As for Obi, he is the only candidate who has yet to say anything concrete whatsoever about what he plans to do differently if he gets the presidency, and he has the additional challenge of explaining how he plans to achieve his plans in the face of two NASS chambers that will be in the hands of the APC and PDP - what is to stop them from frustrating his every proposal as America's Republicans routinely do to Democratic presidents?
If Obi and his supporters were providing detailed, plausible answers to questions like these, I might have had some reason to think of him as something other than the same old wine in a new "Labor Party" wineskin of convenience. Instead they content themselves with fabricating quotes, picking stats out of context, ignoring glaring evidence of Obi's past misdeeds, and insulting people with tribal epithets, as if Igbo votes alone could win him the election. The irony is that the one candidate this year who seemed to have all the right answers to Nigeria's questions was also an Igbo man - Moghalu - but his campaign never got any traction with the same lot now pushing Obi as a "genius" with a supposedly saintly character? Why is that, especially when they say they want new blood with fresh ideas? Guy, you are just a hater. Peter obi is the only person with a plan and has the integrity to back it up. |

How exactly do you pay taxes on money hidden in a foreign jurisdiction?
Dude, abeg confine yourself to primary school argument.
You are creating stories out if thin air. Peter obi does not evade taxes. That is a crime. Tax evasion is a crime. He pays taxes on businesess he has in Nigeria and the same to the UK. He already submitted his tax returns to the FIRS when they asked for it long ago. What Peter obi did was tax avoidance. That is not a crime. Tax avoidance is minimising taxable loopholes in your business. Moving funds to a tax Haven is a part of tax avoidance. You are reducing a loophole that can increase your tax burden. It's not a crime. The crime is when you EVADE to pay taxes on your legitimately and compulsorily taxable income. |

People like you cry about bad roads, no water, electricity, and so on, but people like crooked and unpatriotic Oha Pandora are not paying taxes in their massive wealth to build the roads and bridges that they walk and drive on.
Obi Pandora is crooked, corrupt and an unpatriotic leech on society. He is a businessman. An importer long before he entered politics. He has businesses in the UK and was recently invited by the UK govt for a dinner for business owners in the UK. Its not secret account. You just did not know. The relevant authorities know about it. Beer is going out of fashion and it's not Buhari's fault.
Abeg, come up with a sensible excuse for your poor investment choices,
And instead of changing direction like properly managing the investment against risks and downturns, they left the investment in that company unattended, they did not pay attention to losses and the fact that they are not getting dividends and return on investment for their money, they did not diversify, but Buhari is responsible for their poor choices and incompetence. Peter obi left office more than 8yrs ago. He did his Job by securing for his state a profitable investment. He and his the immediate past governor are not on very good terms. And peter obi is not a godfather that rules after he has left office. As much as we can blame the immediate past governor for not carefully monitoring the investments(they call him a drunk afterall), we can not divorce buhari from the main fault here. That old guy messed up our macro economics. Investments suffering across board. The only person with the least fault here is peter obi. While his mates were looting, he was investing for his state. That is a good leader. |

For other politicians, as long as they don't loot our money too much, then it is okay. We would elect them.
For peter obi, not only does he not loot, he has to prove the quality of his investments.
The same people that are supporting corrupt crooks in tinubu and atiku are the ones holding peter obi because of an investment he made for his state that is profitable in absolute terms.
Just like hundeyin said, you are a backbencher student getting D-, but you are asking the A- student in the front why he did not get an A+. It's ironic and laughable at the same time. |

omohayek: Why should I be "bitter", when I know that Obi's candidacy has about as much chance of succeeding as Nnamdi Kanu's fantasies about going to Abuja to remove "Jubril Al Sudani"? Your attempt at rebuttal is as unconvincing as the OP's: whether it's $5 to $100 million or $20 to $100 million, the reality is that the current financial value of the investment is wildly different from that, and even if the claim had been true for some few days in 2018, it's being used to campaign for Obi in 2022 - and is therefore a falsehood intended to mislead about Peter Obi's supposed investment wisdom.
If Obi were really the investment genius you and his other supporters wish to make him out to be, he'd have been publicly pushing for the incumbent Anambra government to cash out the investment before the shares went into freefall, but instead he chose to boast about their value at the time, as if he thought the share price would always stay that way (or he imagined no one would ever ask him in future about his past boasting). It's no sign of brilliance to have an investment that peaks at some stratospheric value for a few days and then comes crashing down, as all the cryptocurrency fanatics are currently learning the hard way.
The bottom line with Obi is that his candidacy is largely substance-free hot air, being pushed by aggressive lying and threat-making. Obi offers no concrete policies that set him apart from Atiku and Tinubu, and he is at least as compromised by corruption as Atiku and Tinubu (who, like the Obi fanatics say of their god, has never been arrested by the EFCC or convicted by the Nigerian courts). The only genuine selling point I see for Obi is the one his supporters are least ready to admit to (at least while they aren't attacking "Afonjas", "Yoruba Muslims", "Foolanis", etc.) - he happens to be the only Igbo man currently running for the presidency. That's it, the rest is all dishonest puffery. so who is the substance -full candidate you are supporting? Let me give you a chance. |

dominique: It seems a lot of obedient people are first time voters. They're just carrying the candidate not the party. Most times the party logo is absent or hardly visible in their campaign. They think they will go and thumbprint next to Peter Obi's picture or name on the ballot paper. Ask them to pick out his party logo out of a long list of logos placed before them, don't be surprised if 6 out of 10 of them won't be able to identify it. I don't think that is a problem. As long as they are convinced they want to vote for peter obi. They can always find the political party. Atleast, they know it is not pdp or apc. Even in the polling unit, they can always ask around for the party that peter obi is running on and vote. |
