blacksta: For allegedly blocking the Lekki-Epe Expressway with a truck at Ilasan area of Lekki, Eti- Osa, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, thereby causing obstruction to the convoy of Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday, a driver, Mr. David Abiodun, 31, has been arrested by the police at Ilasan Division.

He was arraigned Wednesday before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a five-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving without regard to other road users and causing obstruction to the Lagos State governor’s convoy.

The police stated in the charge sheet that the accused was arrested when he used his Mack truck with registration number XY 33 GGE to block the entire lane on the Lekki-Epe Expressway for unjustifiable reasons and in the process prevented the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola and his convoy from having easy passage to their destination.

During interogation, it was alleged that Abiodun could not give satisfactory reasons on why he blocked the road.

He could not also produce his driver’s licence and the vehicle’s particulars on demand.

The offences, the police prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu said, contravened Sections 28(i), 39(3) of the Traffic Act 548, 36 (P), 44 (1) Cap. 172, Vol. 7 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State of Nigeria and Section 126 (1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Famobiwo, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum who must produce evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and they must also be resident in the state.

She adjourned the matter till 6 June, 2012 for mention.

The defendant was moved to Ikoyi Prison when he could not perfect his bail conditions

the only reason why I see that he was jailed is because he didnt show his driver's licence and car particulars.

duen23: No where in the world are the police paid handsomely. Granted, 28, 000 Naira is too low and encourages people to be corrupt but that is too simplistic an answer. Our lawmakers earn millions but are still corrupt. Should you increase their pay so they will be less corrupt? A corrupt individual will not change because he earns more. There is something as selfless service. If you really want to be rich, get a degree in anything that will get you into the oil sector. If however, you want to serve, you should NOT expect to earn huge amounts of money.

Nice one...funny though when you said the oil sector¿ We have other options.

The problem I have with tie is the sweat associated with,especially when you're in a busy hood or in a public transport spiced with traffic....just imagine.

Faithnn: Nobody is supporting non payment of school fees,but all we should knw is that wheather school fees or not there is state budget for payment of salaries of workers in the state.The school fees is just internally generated revenue from the state.There is a monthlty federal allocation to the state from the federation account which covers the payment of workers salary in the state outside the school fees.Stopping a student from writing his/her exams is ridiculus by the school mgt.All the school mgt should have done is to allow them write exam and their results will not be release until prove of payment of school fee.There are a lot of students whose parents are facing d/f period,others may hve lost their sponsor to the cold hands of death,while some must have misused their school fees,but not stopping them from writing exams.The Govt of this country nigeria dont have any future for the youth.What is wrong with free education or susidising the fees?.

well said...The last time I checked,you can also sit for your exams in IMSU & ABSU. It might also interest you all to know that in FUTO as at 3years ago,one can pay ALL his/her school fees in his FINAL year. So the idea of not allowing ANSU students to write exams is simply wicked. Our Gov. Peter Obi is wacked.

guy u hv a foul mouth...hw cud a once undergraduate(dts if u were one) say ugly things as u hv done. Remember d sch didnt giv dm rum 4part payment and the fee ws increased by 92%. Its totally unfair simple.
