2019 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: ASISAT OSHOALA TO LEAD SUPER FALCONS AGAINST GERMANY

June 22, 2019 TVCN

2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Asisat Oshoala to lead Super Falcons against Germany

The Super Falcons have released a strong starting XI to face Germany at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup round of 16 tie.

Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby, made only two changes to his starting line-up that loss 1-0 to France at the group stage a few days ago after the suspension of Ngozi Ebere (red card) and Rita Chikwelu (accumulated bookings).

Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, will lead the reigning African champions’ attack line. She will be assisted by Ordega and Oparanozie.

Nnadozie will be in goal, while Ayinde and Okobi will be at the midfield.

Evelyn Nwabuoku, Ohale Osinachi, Okeke and Ebi will mount the defence back four.

The kick-off time for the match is 4:30pm

This rubbishes the earlier report then. I never believed that "ACL sports" nonsense.

Please the authentic SE line up is yet to show abeg.

By the way, let's talk about Iwobi for a bit. Sentiments aside, that guy doesn't fill me with confidence at all.

His shooting is pathetic, ditto his long passing abilities, his goal sense below par, aerial ability is zero, ball control average at best....the only thing he has going for him is his one-two passes and once in a blue moon accurate defence splitting pass.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big Iwobi fan and I wish him the very best but if I were in Rohr's shoes right now, I'd play Etebo as 10 ahead of Iwobi.

Your thoughts?

terzurum5:
Sevilla offers Nigerian striker two-year contract extension after impressive performance

Sevilla have offered Nigerian-American female striker, Toni Payne, a two-year contract extension following an impressive first season in Spain.

Toni Payne agreed on Tuesday to sign a contract extension, tying her to Sevilla until 2021.

The Nigerian-American forward had agreed to a one-year deal with the Spanish outfit in June 2018.

The former Concacaf Women’s U-17 winner with the USA joined Sevilla after ending her two-year sojourn with Netherlands Eredivisie women’s champions Ajax in July 2018.

On her debut season in Spain, Payne impressed scoring 10 goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances, including three goals in Spanish Queen’s Cup same term.

Having excelled in her maiden outing for Cristian Toro’s side, the 24-year-old was handed a new two-year contract at Campo Huerto de la Mariana.

“Toni Payne will play three seasons wearing the Sevilla FC jersey,” the club announced in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

“The 24-year-old attacker from Birmingham will extend her stay in Spanish football, which was premiered in the last academic year 2018/2019 by the Seville team.

“Her tip of speed and effectiveness are two qualities highly valued by the technicians.

“In summary, Payne has signed some very interesting numbers in her first year in the capital of Andalusia.

“Over 30 matches, broken down by 27 in the Iberdrola League and three in the Copa de la Reina, contributed seven points.

“These figures are rounded up with two assists. The 2019/2020 project continues to take shape with the continuity of Toni Payne.”

Having ensured their top-flight survival last season, Sevilla will aim to go all the way in the 2019/20120 season, having retained the services of Payne, who is keen to represent Nigerian Super Falcons.

Hmm. All these qualities and somehow she wasn't considered to be good enough for this tourney. Na wa oh.

Bazee should please go to a strong prophet and sort out his spiritual issues oh. For a guy who practically sat out two seasons in a row to move to a bundesliga team means he must be exceptionally talented. If only he was playing regularly, who knows?, we might have had a serious CAF player of the year contender by now.

Oh thou foul injury demon from the pit if hell, I command thee, LOOSE THY GRIP!

This match is an eloquent testimony to the fact that with good strategy, a poor team can squeeze results off teams with far higher quality.

Surely, if you believe that Rohr has one secret genius magic plan hidden somewhere, you're in for a big shock.

"ROHR IS NOT A TACTICIAN". He is a good man manager alright, he is good at taking his players to beaches and other luxury locations, but that guy cannot read a game to save his life, talk more of making strategic substitutions or set his team up to play organized watchable football. Sometimes I wonder where Rohr learnt his own pattern of football because I know even the worst teams of the lowest levels in Germany are better organized than this poo he keeps serving up in the name of Super Eagles.

This AFCON would've been ours for the taking if only we had a half decent tactician at the helms, not one old rickety archaic antediluvian inept impotent slowpoke of a white Onigbinde.

I'm very patriotic but even in my wildest fantasies I cannot see us scraping a win over that French team. Heck, if we get away with less than 3 goals that day we should consider ourselves lucky.

To be honest, I wonder why Rohr has his mind bent on this 3-5-2 thing.

Why rule out two good wingers ( Onyekuru and Chukwueze) from the tournament?

Mickael2:

If the second part happens, then why didn't the boy just play in the U20 World Cup? I do not think he is exactly above that level, and it would have done his ratings no harm at all but that's by the way.

I have never seen/heard that he can play behind the striker or with a striker in a double-9 kinda formation so is it something that will work? He may turn the formation to a 3-6-1 by running constantly to the flanks and we both know Rohr will start Ighalo who isn't much of a goal-threat so we may become toothless.

By the way I read a report that the coach now favours a 3-5-2 although it is conflicting with this recent Owngoal report of 4-3-3

1. I think Chukwueze has actually featured in that role (strike partner) for Villareal this season. Somebody can help us confirm.

2. I disagree that Ighalo is not a goal threat.

3. I think Rohr's primary formation remains 4-3-3. 3-5-2 is only a back up formation to checkmate high quality teams. That's why Chukwueze is needed.

4. Chukwueze dodged a real bullet by opting out of that piss poor carpenter-filled egunje-influenced U-40 team Aigbogun paraded. A tree cannot make a forest. It would've only ended up denting his reputation.

If you are basing your arguments on this, then it is flawed. The WC is ancient history now. I don't see Musa as the Ideal partner to ighalo, Based on form, i'll pick osimhen or chukwueze

YOU will do that. Not Rohr.

Rohr's a conservative. Once you impress him, you need to bleep up again and again and really hard before he drops you.

If Rohr plays 3-5-2, Musa is starting and Samu is getting benched. Take it or leave it.

Bro, the talk here tire me oh. Like seriously, weeks to Afcon and with the coach confirming that we will be playing a 3-5-2 formation all them still dey talk here na Senegal get better players pass Ivory Coast, are you for real?

By now we should be deep into analysis, playing a 3-5-2 formation does it not automatically mean that Samu will sit on the bench through the tournament? Because I don't see where he fits. Playing a 3-5-2 also means either Ighalo or Oshimen will start and not both, Rohr will favour Ighalo, does that leave Oshimen on the bench? Should Iwobi start in our midfield since we have seen that a 3-5-2 needs plenty of runners, ball carriers/shuttlers and energy in the middle and Mikel will not bring any, do we play Iwobi too who is also not an engine room nor a ball carrier? If it will be a 3-5-2 what exactly is Shehu doing in the Afcon? There are only 4 CBs in the team and the formation requires 3 CBs at a time, given Leon's injury record was it wise dropping Ajayi for Shehu? Who will play in the hole right behind the striker? Apart from Musa, who else can comfortably play there? These are some of the tactical discussions we used to have back then, now it is just rape talk and which team has the better players as if that will help us win any trophy or improve our chances.

Anyways Bro, I dey just dey wait for Afcon proper and Copa America

My guess is that Rohr will start with the 4-3-3 and then change to 3-5-2 in the knockout stages when we face the big boys.

You have made a good observation, 3-5-2 means our darling Chukwueze won't play. Unless we will start him as a strike partner to Ighalo, and given Musa's performance in that role at the WC, I think the Musa-Ighalo strike pairing has come to stay.

Anyways, I think 4-3-3 is a sure bet for the group stage matches at least, if Chukwueze makes a huge impression, Rohr may be forced to pick him ahead of Musa to pair Ighalo in attack when he reverts to 3-5-2 in the knockout stages. Otherwise, Samu may have to sit it out like Iwobi at the WC. Sadly.

That's the way it is.

Unpopular/sexist opinion here:
I strongly think that IFAB should reduce the dimensions of the soccer pitch and the goal posts for women’s football. This is because 95% of the female players look like little kids on the pitch, and full backs can barely run the width of the pitch without gassing out.
Also, due to the fact that the average height of the goalies is 5’7” - 5’8”, it won’t be out of place for the height and length of the goalposts to be reduced by, say, 1ft.,

Honest advice. Don't let a feminist hear you say that.
