Five Deputy Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service allegedly tendered a "voluntary" jointly signed resignation letter to the Chairman, Nigeria Custom Service on Thursday October 29. The officers includes; DCG A.J. Atte, DCG T.A. Musa, DCG I.M. Mera, DCG A.C. Nwosu, and DCG A.A. Adewuyi.

In the one-page letter, the officers thanked President Buhari for the opportunity to serve the country having risen to the enviable position.

It can be recalled that President Buhari recently named Colonel Hameed Ali (Rtd) as the new Comptroller General of the Customs.

Raises a lot of questions:

1. Could this resignation be voluntary?
2. Why would 5 DCG resign together, same day, using same letter? This looks more like protest resignation, than voluntary
3. Is Hamid Alli, former Secretary General of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) clearing the deck for some sinister purpose?

Questions! Questions!!

Just for the records:
Col Hamid Ali (rtd) was one of General Abacha's goons together with Col Omenka and Major Okuntimo who were neck deep in the murder of the late Ogoni environmental activist and playwright, Ken Saro-Wiwa. Till date the figures behind the murder of Saro Wiwa have not been brought to justices.

Hamid Ali was initially rumoured as being penciled for the EFCC Chairman job. But apparently, that was not seen as juicy or strategic enough to cover Northern interest by the new thinkers in Buhari's kitchen cabinet of El-Rufai, General Dambazzau and Emir Sanusi Lamido.

Col Hamid Ali (rtd) served in the military police in the army. He is not a career Customs officer. His appointment by Buhari to head Nigerian Customs Service, first for an outsider, was roundly condemned by Nigerians. Apparently, Buhari has his own agenda.

This is simply another dirty job someone who is eyeing the Min of Justices/AGF slot has commissioned Sahara Reporters (SR) to do.

It is shameful that SR will seek to rubbish a lawyer for defending a client professionally. What was Ocholi supposed to do? Administer lie detector test before taking on clients?

Lawyers are like doctors, you treat the good, the bad and the ugly. If the lawyers were to start moralizing, then there will be no lawyer to defend armed robbery suspects.

People should see the story for what it is - a paid job. Period

President Buhari will clock 5 months in office exactly on Thursday, 29th October 2015.

Since assuming office, Buhari has made it his pet hobby to travel outside Nigeria under various guises at least once every month. Initial trips were to neighbouring African countries, ostensibly to build a coalition in the fight against Boko Haram.

Subsequently, he covered most of Europe and North America. Now our Baba Presido has set his sights on Asia and Indian sub-continent. So far he seems to be avoiding the Middle East.

I have a little game for NL'ers. Predict which country Buhari will visit next before end November 2015 and stand a chance to win N1500 re-charge card. Three prices will awarded.

But there is absolutely no officer as highly ranked as a Major General among them. Absolutely, none of that rank from the North.

For goodness sake, at that rank you command a whole army Division. You can also be Chief of Army Staff as a Major General, similar to Maj Gen Buratai. In that exalted command, was he in the war front? If your court martial him, you have to court marshal the entire Division.

Practically, all of GEJ's policies that were pooh-poohed by Buhari is being recycled shamelessly.

The ones Buhari cannot recycle he destroys it, only to have a rethink a few weeks down the road. Good example is the incontrovertible gains and stellar performance in Agriculture, that made Buhari to actively fight for GEJ's Agric Minister to be elevated to the exalted position President of the African Development Bank, even before Buhari was sworn in.

Part and parcel of GEJ's Agric policy was to gradually increase tariff, and eventually ban importation of rice to encourage local production that was massively ramping up. Even his worst critics applauded him on his Agric policies and solid achievements. He ended the perennial fertilizer scam, much to the chagrin and dislike of Northern elites.. The entire rice value chain was coming alive. Now Buhari has thrown the door open to unbridled rice importation thereby threatening to kill off this sector.

Perhaps this was one of the conditions America gave him so they will "support" the war on corruption and give him peanuts to take care of IDPs. Is that enough to mortgage Agric sector and the livelihood of many rice grower, millers, etc?

You are missing the point completely.

All past governments in Nigeria have always exercised care to ensure that the electoral body chairman always comes from another part of the country from that of the President or Head of State. Go and check the records, beginning with the late Justices Ovie-Whiskey during Shagari's 2nd republic.

Even OBJ with all his shenanigans respected this convention to assuage the feelings of other parts of the country and to foster confidence in the electoral process.

It is not about balancing. Go and read Fayose's statement carefully again. Right now all arms of the government reside firmly in the hadns of the North, including the election umpire. It has never happed like this.

Under Buhari what we have is:

Executive Arm - North (Buhari)
Legislative Arm - North (Saraki/Dogara)
Judiciary - North (Justices Mahmud Mohammed).

In fact the last 4 Supreme Court Chief Justices of Nigeria have been Northerners ( Katsina-Alu, Dahiru Musdapher, Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, and Mahmud Mohammed)

This is truly scary huh

Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido is the 2015 Amirul Hajj. He abandoned the trampled and dying Nigerians on pilgrimage at Mina, Saudi Arabia and raced home to marry his teenage bride.

Till date Emir Sanusi is yet to fully give account of how so many Nigerians died in 2015 hajj, and how he managed the entire hajj operation. He is yet to account to Nigerians, and meet the Sultan of Sokoto Sa'ad Abubakar who is the leader of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria to account for his stewardship as the 2015 Amirul Hajj.

Many prominent Nigerians, including the brother of former INEC Chairman perished in 2015 hajj. Till date, nobody is exactly sure how many Nigerians lost their lives in 2015 hajj. Many Nigerians are still declared as missing, weeks after the hajj ended. The man in-charge, Emir Sanusi Lamido is more concerned with adding to his harem of wives and making himself popular as if he is standing for elections.

Some of the bodies piled up in those pictures are probably some of the still "missing" Nigerians. Emir Sanusi does not give a hoot. A more responsible Amirul Hajj whould have stayed back in Saudi Arabia until all Nigerians are fully accounted for. Not our Conji-challenged and popularity loving cub-Emir.

His dumb suggestion to forestall the perennial deaths during the stoning ceremony was that pilgrims should slaughter a ram each in place of stoning as if the poor masses who are usually sponsored by their state pilgrim board can afford a ram each. He made the proclamation without referral to, or approval of Sultan Abubakar. How so impudent and disrespectful huh

He is presently pulling all kinds of publicity stunts, like riding a she-camel instead of a horse, strutting his swagger in Kano while relatives and families of the Mina hajj stampede are grieving. The man loves public posturing, adulation and publicity.
