True. Very true.

Henry Boyo writes an economic column in Vanguard. He has never failed to draw attention to the weird exchange rate system we operate in Nigeria.

Absolutely correct.

I remember watching that BBC documentary on MC Oluomo.
Mamok led the BBC crew around. He really took great pride in his thug life, extortion from shop owners and poor old women trading by the roadside.

Emir Sanusi Lamido II:
I am sure NC members all have their views and have kept quiet out of (appropriate) deference to our right to make our individual choice. Obviously I do not need to explain anything to anyone in a purely personal matter but a few points are worthy of note:

The lady in question is 18 and therefore legally of age to marry under all laws and certainly under Muslim law.
She is proceeding for her undergraduate education in the UK in January. She had an A in computer science in her O levels and plans to get a degree in computer science.
3. Each and every one of my wives is a university graduate and some have worked and then stopped and in each case the choice was purely theirs.

It is a tradition in Kano that emirs and princes in choosing wives consider issues beyond the individual. The family is in every sense a social unit. My predecessor was married to princesses from Ilorin, Katsina and Sokoto.
5. The relationship between the late Lamido of Adamawa Aliyu Musdafa the father of the current Lamido is well known. Lamido Aliyu was the first emir turbaned after emir Sanusi I and they remained close until Sanusi’s death.

My own relationship with the current Lamido dates back to 1981 when he was Ciroma and commissioner for works. By the way the Lamido and I are not illiterates we know what we are doing and he does have a PhD in Engineering.
My own mother was married in Adamawa and lived there for more than two decades and I have eight younger brothers and sisters from there.
8. It is therefore natural that if I choose to marry from another kingdom Adamawa would be the first choice for me and I am extremely happy to strengthen these long historical bonds.

The young lady in question gave her free consent and even after the contract the wedding will not happen for a few years. By then she may be 21. If she freely consents to this I do not know on what moral grounds anyone has a grouse. She is an adult, she gave her consent, and her education is not being in anyway interrupted.
The real issue is that people do not accept cultural difference. And you can see it in the approach to these issues. I am supposed to be urbane and western educated. Yes but I am not European. I am a northern Nigerian Fulani Muslim brought up in a setting exactly like the one my children are being brought up in.
If you read this and it improves your understanding of this issue that is fine. If it does not just remember it is not your life, it is not your daughter and you are not my wife therefore it is not your business.

I obviously cannot stoop to the level of responding publicly to these kinds of articles. I have always been an advocate of girls marrying after maturing. I personally like the minimum age of 18 even though I understand those who say 16 is fine and indeed this is the law in most so called advanced countries.

Is this something that I expect a European or western trained or feminist mind to appreciate or endorse? Not at all. But has any American been bothered about my views on men marrying men or women marrying women who frankly I find primitive and bestial? No and my views do not matter. These are cultural issues.

Even in Nigeria I have heard all this stuff as in Pius article about “north” and northerners. Again it is a failure to respect difference. There are parts of this country where parents expect their daughters to live with their boyfriends for years and actually get pregnant before they marry. It has become culture. We do not have that in the north and if your daughter gets pregnant before marriage she brings nothing but shame to the name. But we do not issue condemnations. We agree that this is how they choose to live. And I can give many other examples.

When people use the term libido they do themselves injustice. First of all it shows how they view women and marriage. Women are nothing but the object of sexual desire. Marriage is nothing but sexual gratification. Well I am sorry but in my tradition it is not. Beauty and attraction rank third after religion and lineage in the choice of a wife.

They see an 18 year old young lady. I see a princess of noble birth whose mother is also a princess, and who has been brought up in a good Muslim home. This is the kind of woman that is prepared for giving birth to princes and bringing them up for the role expected of them in society.

Marriage is both social and political. Expanding the links of Kano which have already been established by my predecessors through inter-marriage with Katsina, Sokoto, Ilorin, Katagum, Ningi, Bauchi etc to Adamawa is an important and significant step and this is obvious to anyone with a sense of how royal families work and Ibn Khaldun’s sociological concept of Asabiyyah.

When the Emir of Kano marries it has to be something beyond what he personally desires to what is appropriate for that position and the expectations of the people he represents. You don’t just pick up any girl on the street. And by the way, for those who shout libido, sex is cheap and available everywhere in all shapes and sizes and all colours if that is what they want. And all ages too. Marriage is a very different proposition. The mother of your children has to be something other than, not at least much more than a mere object of sexual fantasy. But if you do not know that you need to buy yourself a brain.

I have daughters. And they know they can only marry from certain backgrounds. I always prefer family. When my daughter wanted to marry Mouftah Baba Ahmed’s son and she asked me, knowing my views on family, I told her Mouftah is family. And this is not about me and Mouftah or me an Hakeem or Nafiu. No. It goes back to Baba Ahmed and Emirs Sanusi and Bayero. And the same rule applies to my sons. And it applied to me as well.

It is, I am sure, very strange that I should even bother to comment on this. But it would be hypocritical for me to just keep quiet so long as these things are being posted and commented upon explicitly or in a snide manner. There was no secrecy in the marriage fatiha. The date was fixed and it was to be done in the central mosque after Friday prayers.

The day before we had a tragedy in Saudi Arabia and decided the fatiha must be very low key as a mark of respect for the dead. All traditional rulers in Adamawa were there, as were governors and commissioners, members of my own emirate council and Adamawa people. There is nothing here to hide or be apologetic about.

The emirs of Adamawa have shown love to my parents and grandparents and it is a sign of my appreciation of their love that i marry their daughter. This is the highest statement of friendship and loyalty on both sides.

Again if you understand this this is fine. If you do not, buy yourself a brain, A la Pius.

In any event this is my one and final and only comment on this. And I am making it out of respect for NC members.

According to Femi Adesina, the president’s Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) in a chat with Daily Independent on Wednesday, the September deadline given by the president stands, as it not midnight yet.

He said: ”Yes, I agree that today is the last day of September and the President promised to make the list available in September. But there is no cause for alarm since the day is not yet over. September will come to and by 11:59pm.”

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has said that he has received the list from the Nigerian president, but it is unsure if the list would be made public tonight.

Sahara Reporters also tweeted that the Nigerian president and his chief of staff were meeting over the list.

Why are you even concerned about who is marrying who of all the problems you have in the country? Would you have loved for her to be at a brothel in Nigeria or Italy? You can give your sister out in marriage at any age you want, and let others do according to their culture and religion.

If Sanusi's new bride Sa'adatu is truly 18 years, why all the frenzy to plant false stories and hoodwink people?

The true name of the model posted by Sanusi Lamido is Hauwa Yazid. She does lots of photo modelling work for MaiGaskiya Photos.
MaiGaskiya Photos is a professional photographer in the North who specialises in doing photo shoots for high profile weddings.

Proof that the picture and story on SugarDaily.Ng is false. Do the following:

2) Click on Image link

3) Scroll down the many pictures you will see the picture of the model among many others. On the third row, it is 4th pic from left. I have attached a screen dump as 3rd picture below.

http://www.sugardaily.ng/here-comes-the-bride-picture-of-emir-sanusis-18-yr-old-bride-on-their-wedding-day/

Seems ongoing social media storm over Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido's newest addition to his harem, a supposedly 18year old Sa'adatu, who recently wrote her WAEC is making the Emir uncomfortable. Most commentators believe the quoted age of 18yrs is too convenient, arbitrarily fixed to align with constitutional age of adulthood in Nigeria.

To deflect attention and mislead the public against the outcry, a fake picture of a much older fashion model has been posted at blog site with a fake news of a marriage ceremony that is yet to take place.

Few posers that makes the planted story untrue:

1. Has Sanusi Lamido returned already from the Hajj, to hurriedly carry out the Nikkai marriage ceremony?

2. Where are the other wedding guests? Nikkai ceremony of such magnitude to such a personality will be attended by key Northern figures and his many friends in the banking and financial sector, talk less of the cream of APC stalwarts. Gov of Kaduna, Mallam El-Rufai his soul mate who helped him fight his battle when he was suspended as CBN governor can never be absent.

3. Where is the bridegroom, Mallam Sanusi Lamido himself? Can a man be absent in his own marriage?

4. Can a bride to a first class Emir dorn such attire for a Nikkai ceremony?

5. Why doesn't she have the traditional hand and face painting of a bride that is a must for Nikkai ceremony among the fulanis? Instead what we see is that garish purple make-up favoured by fashion models
.

Attached is the true picture of young Sa'adatu as published in Linda Ikeji blog, and the fake one published by sugardaily.ng.

The Truth:
The true name of the model is Hauwa Yazid. She does lots of photo modelling work for Mai Gaskiya Photos.

PoliticsNigerian Foreign Reserves In Steady Decline by cuteboy2(op): 9:05am On Sep 29, 2015
http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/foreign-reserves-in-steady-decline/

Vanguard: Nigeria’s foreign reserves is now on a steady decline against the backdrop of the decision by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to protect the Naira from depreciation.

Wednesday, September 23, the reserves had fallen to $30.485 billion, about $1.139 billion drop from this year’s peak of $31.624 billion recorded about six weeks ago, August 9.

Foreign reserves, which mirrors an economy’s relative strength and ability to finance its imports and foreign investors’ obligations, had witnessed an upward growth since June from $29 billion, reversed the trend on August 9 and has since been on the decline.

The declining trend, according to financial sector analysts, is a result of CBN’s operations in the foreign exchange market, where it tries to meet demands at a predetermined exchange rate amidst declining oil revenue.

However, foreign exchange market reports still indicate continued excess demand which has continued to put pressure on exchange rate, while premium on parallel market continue to widen.

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, said that the weak performance of the external sector and its vulnerability to external shocks reflect the dismal contributions of the non-oil sector and low production in the economy.

Many financial analysts have also attributed the outflows to recent announcement by USA investment banker, JP Morgan, that it was withdrawing Nigeria from its Government Bond Index for Emerging Markets, GBI-EM.

Afrinvest Group, a Lagos-based investment banker, said the development would further pressure the external reserves as funds attracted to the economy through GBI-EM, will be expected to leave the financial system.
CrimeRe: 61-year-old Guard Rapes Two Sisters, Gives Them N200 by cuteboy2: 9:01am On Sep 29, 2015
Terrible news.

If our governors (Sani Yerima of Zamfara and Audu of Kogi state) are committing statutory rape in the name of marrying 12 year olds, why wont the citizenry take a cue from their leaders?

This week, Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido who is currently on Hajj, has prepared for himself a fresh new "18 year old" bride who has just finished writing her WAEC to take cool body when he returns from the pilgrimage. Controversy is still raging as to whether the young innocent girl is even up to 18 years as Sanusi Lamido claims since these days children write WAEC at very early age, similar to the Chibok girls.

Should these prominent political figures also be hung by the ball.s?

From reports from my friends in Osun, i heard the governor has paid them four months salary arrears just about a week to sallah.
From "your friends", abi?

No other person in planet earth heard the news, except your friends. Even Gov Aregbe himself who knows the value of propaganda does not have that information. Else he would have been screaming from roof tops that he has paid.
PoliticsRe: Ministerial List: See List Of Speculated Nominees by cuteboy2: 7:55am On Sep 29, 2015
helinues:
Barely 48 hours to September 30, the deadline given by President Muhammadu Buhari, to release the list of his long-awaited ministerial nominees, the social media was again abuzz on Monday, with a list of politicians and technocrats who are speculated to make the ministerial nominees to be sent to the Senate tomorrow.

However, this list is not an official list from the Presidency. Again, this is not likely the real list because some names such as that of Dr Kayode Fayemi, Femi Falana and Engineer Segun Oni are all from Ekiti State. According to the constitution, the President must appoint a minister from each state.

Here is the list:

Prof. Tam David West
Femi Falana (SAN)
Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazu (rtd)
Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola
Wale Edun
Abubakar Malami (SAN).
Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okaru
Chief Bode Mustapha
Engineer Segun Oni
Dr Kayode Fayemi
Dr. Abba Ruma
Chief Kanu Agabi
Donald Duke
Babatunde Raji Fashola
Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi
Rotimi Akeredolu
Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso
Festus Odimegwu
Engineer Funsho Kupolokun
Yinka Folashade Oredola
Bisola Adegbenro
Isaiah Danjuma (son of TY Danjuma)
Dele Momodu
Kehinde Lawanson
Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN)
Pat Utomi
Charles Chukwuma Soludo

Meanwhile, as Nigerians await the official announcement from President Buhari:

* Who would you want to be on the list?
* Who would you want removed from the aforementioned names?

I wonder why we still glorify this fake list. Even Vanguard the source of the list has discredited it (see bolded text in the report)

I dont expect u to agree, are u a lady, if yes at wat age did u lose ur virginity and if no ask most ladies around u. Stop setting double standard. Ill rather allow my daughter get married early than turn a public property moving from one man to d other, im so in support of early marriage for girls.
If marrying underage children is so good, why doesn't Sanusi Lamido give out these his under-aged and teen daughters in marriage.
Why do they always ensure their own daughters get educated up to University level, sometimes up to Masters degree before they marry?

Sani Yerima (ex-gov of Zamfara), ex-gov Audu of Kogi, President Muhammadu Buhari, and now Sanusi Lamido Sanusi all have daughters. But they will protect them until after university education while going after other people's under-aged daughters angry angry angry
