Time2win: Just because a school is better ranked with huge tuition fee, then you choose it over another good school with low tuition fees? Doesn't make sense. Don't you think the V.O might be thinking he wants to go and meet his friends over there probably stay with him if he can't afford to pay the fees later. Just take a look at Northeastern university tuition fees and the cost of living in boston, you Will shake your heard. University of arkansas should have been a good choice, cost of living in arkansas is lower too. doesnt make sense for you maybe. There are various reasons why one chooses a school regardless of how expensive it is pls!.... Him wanting to go to NEU because of his friend is another thing entirely. As I mentioned earlier nothing from his transcript shows that he can’t afford the fees. He wasn’t even asked that at all. |

Time2win: Your problem started on why you chose northeastern over university of arkansas. If Northeastern university didn't offer you any form of funding and you chose it over university of arkansas, then you made a wrong choice cos Northeastern university though ranked higher, the tuition fee is very high and your answer on why you chose it doesn't sound convincing at all if not to go and meet your friend, probably stay with him. Please choose university of arkansas and refire or find a good reason why you chose Northeastern university. so if a school is more expensive than the other I shouldn’t choose the more expensive but better ranked school? Don’t see how that should be a factor at all. Also coupled with the fact that his financial ability wasn’t asked. What I can point out is she obviously has a different position on the ranking of both schools. Maybe Arkansas is ranked better in Journalism than Northeastern because I wonder why she was shaking her head. |

No, it has not. I would be very glad if you can help I gave you an alternative which you can employ now and anytime you find a new school, so you don't have to always ask for help when making international payments. But I guess you prefer otherwise. |

SpatialKing: Can someone help me with list schools in the USA that don't require any form of test for masters admission for course like Mathematics? I think you should carry out the research yourself using Google. You really don't want to make another mistake based on another person's recommendation. A simple "MSC MATHEMATICS WITHOUT GRE USA" Would bring out some options if they are available. |
Travel › Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by CuteRedd(f): 9:05am On Feb 24, 2019 |
SpatialKing: And have paid sorry but you have two options either write GRE or look for other schools which does not require GRE. Its a no brainer and if you choose the latter, then you have lost your application fee for the previous. That's why it's good to be thorough when researching on schools down to the tiniest of details to avoid stories that touch. |

In as much as I like Steph and the Warriors, I still believe they are overrated.
All these talk of best team ever by the media is just a way to justify Lebron's failure imo. overrated?? Naso |

NoelJunior: Good evening Scholars,
The last couple of months have been traumatic for me, following the shock loss of my foster-father, hence my inability to respond and make contributions on this wonderful thread. Thank you CptCharlesVane, Instinct20, fame12k for your prompt and encouraging responses to my earlier post. I got an offer from K-State with funding as a GTA (full tuition + stipend), it is the first decision out of two.
MY GRE AND TOEFL
I prepared for the GRE for 3 weeks and used only the ETS official guides. After two weeks I took the first powerprep and had Q157, V152. A couple of days before the actual test I took the second powerprep and had Q162, V153. I do not intend to make other materials lose relevance but for prospective test takers, please endeavor to also use the official prep materials (if possible begin with them) and take simulated tests prior to the exam. In a like manner, I practiced for the TOEFL using the ETS guide. I practiced listening using VOA, TedTalks, documentaries and CNN. For the speaking, I would not recommend going in with “templates” as the questions may not fit well with them. I suggest you speak freely and flow naturally but on-point. For those applying to study STEM courses, please endeavor to learn R and MATLAB/GNU Octave software. A friend who got into the Geophysics program of a top Canadian School is really finding it challenging without proficiency in the software. There are free tutorials in form of books and videos online but if they are difficult to access, please feel free to contact me.
SOP
Please make effort to spend good time in writing your SOP. I used, on the average, 4 days per paragraph in drafting my SOP. Whatever exposure you’ve had that will be beneficial to your application, if documented or reported on the internet (such as magazines or national dailies), please include the url in your SOP. For example, undergraduate awards/scholarships, publications, presentations etc. I’m sorry if my write up isn’t detailed enough, still trying to pull myself together, seeing that the one who single-handedly invested in my life and education is no more to see his efforts yielding fruits and prayers for me being answered. Lastly, I'd like to urge you NEVER TO GIVE UP. If you’ve not succeeded, it doesn’t mean you will not. Failure is never final and success is never ending. Trust God and He will make all thing beautiful in His time. You will get there!
I love you all!!! wow congratulations go and make him proud... So sorry for your loss. What was your final score for GRE and toefl? |

preciousnobel: Good day all, Big kudos to our seniors here! May your shadows never grow less! I noticed that most applications here are engineering or related disciplines. Anybody here applying for Phd/Msc in any biomedical discipline? i am an undergraduate of human physiology in a Nigerian university and I intend to apply for Phd in neuroscience in the nearest future.
Also, the information I got is that it is impossible for immigrants to live legally after Phd in Trump's America. Is it true? What do you think is the best thing to do about this? It wouldn't be nice to travel back to Nigeria and start looking for an academic or industry job after Phd in US @Scholastica16 Time2Smile, CuteRedd, Sherlock5577, Pronto543
Thanks. scholartisca16 has answered you beautifully. Also this should dispel the Trump narrative. Plus read the latest news on h1b etc which favours international students who schooled in the US. Plus PhD has an upper hand.

Scholastica16: Everything here is on point. I will only add that some Boston, NYC and Cali PhDs get as much as 2800-3500 a month. There is someone in Boston University who even views this thread occasionally that earns $3500/month. But their rent no be here. A 4-bedroom apartment shared where he stays is $1300 per person. Some Stanford people see $5000 a month single bedroom apartments and $1800/month each in a 3 bedroom shared. Someone who visited recently and stayed with a friend said his friend pays $800 each a month in a 5 bedroom shared spot close to Stanford and that was even subsidised by the school.
In Iowa State here, the PhDs get $1900+ after taxes. The ball park figure is however $30k/year. nice view points. I have always wanted to know the actual living cost range in Boston and New York especially for an international student. I know that the rate stated on the school site is a watered-down version and not the true picture of things. Can you pls connect me to this person in Boston U? Would love to ask some questions about the school and other things. Thanks |
