Thank you if you are going into consulting it’s a no brainer oooo! |

If you make more of your 3 points and attempt less than the others, does that mean they're reliant on 3 points? Izz dar nor Curry and Klay's problem?
How do you now explain the fact that they have score more 2 pointers and second in midrange than the whole NBA? Shei na 3 pointers be that?
How do you now explain even with their efficiency on 3 pointers, they still make less than 7 teams? Waiting for your analogy... i see why SmoochCHN was vexed |

It might be easier if the male is the student than if the male is the f2. ... vo might feel why will a man go sit without working for 2 years
Anyway it possible and others have been successful. No body can predict so all you can do is prepare well and hope for the best the stereotype tho but I get you. |

dabaniru: Hey Bracelum,
It appears you have a good grasp about US MBA programs and all... So I'd hope you can provide any guidance.
I have an admission to a top 10 MBA program with very good scholarship (say 70% COA). The balance should be sorted with student loans.
My worry is I'd like to travel with my spouse (as we would rather not be apart for that long). What do I need to put in place/do to help ensure we get the F1/F2 visa? What hurdles would you reckon I might face.
Anyone with helpful insights can please also chip in...will appreciate any help/advice. 70% scholarship to a top 10mba prog? hearty congratulations |

bracelum: Hahahaha, different strokes for different folks. Based on what you have said, all I see here is myopic reasoning. You'll never know the benefits of something if you never enjoyed it.
Not everyone attends schools to learn algebra or linear equations. In fact, with advancements in online learning, a lot of people now do not need to attend the 4 walls of classrooms to learn algebra and linear equations again. Some people attend schools to meet co-founders, enjoy lifelong connections with highly connected people or even to compete with very ambitious and intelligent classmates. All these cannot be ascertained from the $$$ in tuition.
And yeah, those experiences end up making a lot of those folks very very successful. |

bracelum: Hahaha! Clap for yourself. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks the same way you do.
The cost of education (not just education) is not only the value attached to the $$ sign in the tuition. In everything we purchase, there are monetary and non-monetary costs as well as monetary and non-monetary benefits. When faced with such a situation, a smart person will open a spreadsheet and run the numbers. A smart person will evaluate the alumni benefits, the location, the quality of education, the network, the career opportunities, the prestige (yeah, the prestige) and the quality of classmates. All these are benefits and costs that are not associated with tuition but are what determines the educational experience of people. Depending on what you want to get out of the educational experience, these factors are even more influential than the tuition.
After running the numbers, a smart person will choose the option that provides the highest utility. I believe the 18-year-old boy did something similar and that was why I was moved to provide the best guidance I could provide. Some people are just too damn smart and age is never a determining factor for smartness.
So, next time, when faced with two decisions like that, never compare the monetary costs alone. If you do so, you will lose out on a hell lot of utility. I don't expect you understand or accept, but you don't take a horse to a river and force it to drink water. Use your brain well!
For someone that wants to have a wonderful educational experience (including those factors I listed), Northeastern University trumps the University of Arkansas significantly. I'm beginning to think that you are a student at the University of Arkansas which explains why you are getting so emotional about the issue.
No more comments on this again. Gbam |

Time2win: I am not assuming, i know the tuition fees for Northeastern University, it's very expensive.. The bottom line is that he couldn't prove why he chose the expensive school over a less expensive one. Both are very good schools. Put yourself in the V.O position, why do you want to spend over 20m per year for a program? Without a good answer, a V.O might not approve the person. I meant you assumed the reason for the denial was because it was too expensive, when i have stated for the umpteenth time that there was nothing to show that was the reason for the rejection. He wasn't even asked about his financial statements. I believe his response to the question and his lack of confidence was what caused the reject. Anyway we can end here. |

Time2win: Well you are getting the whole picture wrong. A V.O will want to know why you chose such an expensive school without any form of funding over another good school that's quite affordable. Seeing 65k$ on your i20 screens an alarm on their head they will want to know why you are spending such amount of money. So if you tell the V.O about jobs you can't get with UF, you are indirectly telling him/her that you are eyeing the big money over there and might permanently stay over there and that means you haven't overcome the 214B non immigrant rule. Also taking a huge loan just cos you want to attend a top ranked school is not a nigerian thing and i won't advice anyone to do that. If you have the money to pay, then give a good reason why you chose the school. Well, Lagosismyhome has answered what's on my mind. you are assuming the amount is the issue whereby the transcript didn’t show any hint of that being the problem. @bolded Good, that’s the best we can all do which is to advice people and not otherwise as I stated earlier. Not everyone agrees with our school of thought on matters and that should be ok. I am not even in support nor against his decision i just want us to be careful in denigrating people’s decisions when we don’t have enough context. |

I think I need to apply to more schools, please which schools waive application fee because I don't want to waste more money on application fee. Which schools offer GA? Thanks in anticipation for your response. send schools a request for a waiver also attach your unofficial credentials and talk about your professional experience/academic achievements if any. Also ask them if your profile is competitive enough to apply so that you don’t waste effort in applying to a place where you won’t have a chance. Wish you the best! |

Time2win: V.O knows only few nigerians can actually afford US tuition fees without any form of assistantship. His honesty would have saved him but he flopped when asked why he chose the school. The V.O will conclude he is going there cos of his friend. yeah I agree he should have given a stronger and more confident reason for choosing the school. |

Time2win: So if harvard university gave you admit and the tuition fees is 85k$ without funding, then you choose it over university of florida that's also well respected and the tuition fee is 35k$. How is choosing harvard university a good choice. How many Nigerians can afford their tuition fees? Let's be realistic and leave ranking aside now. We haven't even talked about living expenses in both states lol as I said it’s your opinion. There are a million factors to choose Harvard are you kidding me? the exposure, networks, contacts, doors, prestige etc! Unparalleled!! UF bawo? There are some jobs you can’t even get without going to certain schools eg Consulting jobs (McKinsey,Bain etc). We can be too short sighted when it comes to these things I think it’s the Nigerian Mentality. I believe there are other schools cheaper than the university you attended. With cheaper accommodations and cost of feeding. Why you attended your school is your choice and no one should hassle you for that. We all have different goals and pursuits abeg. Anyone wanting to take a risk for factors best known to him/her in choosing a better but expensive school shouldn’t be tagged unreasonable. Pls it’s one thing to advice people it’s another to call nonsense people’s life decisions. |

Considering that Harvard is damn expensive but ranked higher, and the University of Florida is a good and cheaper school. exactly my thought! |
