I hope it's not detailing. Mrbigman1, pls how's your experience in East Germany? And what's your take between it and west? And maybe other parts as well.

Different people have different experiences.

From DanielHouston's posts, I've crossed out anything Saxony as a no go. And west as better than east, safety wise.

Well my experience of East and West differs, even economically I prefer Leipzig and even Braunschweig to Rhinewaal in North Rhine-Westphalia. But in general, the west is more economically buoyant, it doesn't mean however that the east is poor.
In terms of safety, the east is generally not as dangerous as people think. It is not so different from other parts of Germany safety wise in my experience.

I guess you have never being to Leipzig to type this fall accusatory word about it.
Leipzig is more Friendly City than Berlin.
lol, ironically the first time I heard anyone gossip about my black skin was when I stayed in Leipzig for about 2 months. Then I studied in Magdeburg.
However, I still preferred Leipzig to Magdeburg even then, because it had a more vibrant Night life or social life than Magdeburg.

Magdeburg and some of these so called racist Eastern cities, in 2002 or 2005 may have been dangerous for the black man( physical danger), but things have changed drastically in many of the cities due to the universities that has attracted more black people there. However, the general stereotype about East Germany as a no go region for blacks due to violence would not easily go away until a few more years I guess.

Even economically, the East is changing and the Economy opening up for English speakers. For now though, I agree with the general sentiment of the op, that if you have a choice between small Eastern cities and the big cities, you should always choose the latter.

Hi, is it possible to do a list of some states or places (in Germany) you think black students should avoid? I will need it to guide my choice of university application.

Thanks in anticipation
In my opinion if you can avoid so many of these small cities especially in East and North Germany that would be fine, but if you do not have other choices, I do not think you have so much to worry about in terms of physical danger. The major problem we have with these cities are the job prospects, and most times you do not find so many friendly people in their clubs.
Once in a while ( in a few of these cities) you have Nazi skinheads making protests, but even that may not be so common.
Trust me, if you come to any of these racist cities, you would worry more about getting part time jobs( not needing German language) than you would about physical attacks from racist skinheads.

In my opinion, the cities to avoid based on the blatant racism and danger they pose for Black people are: Dresden, Magdeburg, Chemnitz, Braunschweig, Cottbus, infact I’d say the state of Saxony as a whole but Leipzig is better.
These are cities where you’re bound to experience racism and be attacked in broad daylight and even the police will say it did not happen.

I’d also add Potsdam to the list but you can live there safely, even though you won’t feel entirely safe. There have been cases of Black people being found dead in that city, which they ruled as suicide but we know what’s up.
I will update the list as I think of more cities.

In any case, please avoid Dresden and Chemnitz. If they offer you admission there, run.
Well Magdeburg might be racist but it's not really dangerous(danger to the black man's life) so to say.

I have also been to Halle and smaller cities in Saxony Anhalt, they are not dangerous, but some folks ( especially the old ones) stare at black people a lot probably due to ignorance, since many are yet to interact with blacks and the major news they get of Africa is that of poverty and famine. There are of course racist groups in all these towns but you would not be endangered as many believe. Also I agree that Dresden is the center of skinheads and chemnitz too (though I have not been to those cities nor do I hear much about them), but the reason many avoid these cities have more to do with the economy of Eastern Germany ( compared to the west) than issue of racist attacks generally.

In my opinion, Leipzig (though a more enlightened city) is even slightly more racist than Magdeburg.

There are so many black students in the University of Magdeburg for instance especially Nigerians and Cameroonians. I'm done with my studies in Magdeburg, studied there for 3 years and still have friends there, never heard of a racist attack (physical attack) on a black student.

Hi daniel, silent reader here. How possible is it to apply for a student visa for canada after masters in Germany??
Very possible, you can start with a visitor's visa while you are still a student in Germany, then begin the process thereafter. Immediately you complete your masters degree, you file in your degree as well.
Even if you don't go there visiting, you can still begin the Canadian application process.

What interpretation, pray tell Atheism is defined as "without belief" in god. Has naught to do with evolution, thus it makes no claim on it. That's just a despicable strawman you've fabricated to debunk an imaginary argument. Not new though, and judging from subsequent posts, I've noticed it's a pattern you and your friends will be willing to continue to heckle me with, for as long as it need be, to avoid the crux of the matter here: providing concrete objective evidence for your deity of choice

Unlike creationism, evolution is an established scientific fact. Creationism is mere subjective pseudo science fantasy by theists, that hasn't even been asserted as true by the scientific community before the theists start trotting it out as "scientific" unjustifiably

Logic is inferential. It does not always demonstrate objective truth

Precise? Look at the variety of species that have lived and died on this planet. All their shapes, sizes, and colors are the result of cumulative random mutations. Whether those mutants survive and prosper as new species depends on equally random events affecting the climate and landscape, as well as the emergence or extinction of other species of plants and animals.

How precise was the meteor that wiped out most of the dinosaurs? Why did your ancestors and mine survive the Black Death, smallpox, cholera, and the Spanish flu? Were they designed to survive by god, or just genetically or geographically lucky?

As far as I can tell, no one here has made the above conclusion. There is no algorithms in evolution. It is binary, you die or survive based on the environment around you.

And that’s a false dichotomy. The options for emergence and development of life on this planet are not abiogenesis + evolution, or a creator god. And BTW, evolution has nothing to say about the origin of life. It explains the development and diversity of life.

The options are abiogenesis (life from non-life through chemical means) + evolution, or something else that we have not yet discovered.

The truth or falsity of evolution has nothing to do with the existence of god/s. So that's also a non-sequitur.

You do not get to sneak your god in without evidence. If science is wrong, and has been wrong all along, the default position is "We don’t know." Wait a minute That IS the position science currently holds! You are not talking about evolution, you are talking about cosmology

Evolution is not cosmology.
Well Tamaratonye5, every ideology professes an opinion or bias, and atheism is not exempt.
Atheism is not an ideology on the fence, rather it questions the evidence for the existence of a God or Gods. When theists present evidence of God as creator, the atheist then says no, there is no creator, we just evolved randomly to become what we are.

By so doing, you are interpreting evolution and projecting your anti-theistic bias on the scientific report, no less guilty than the theist in that regard.
Evolution only explains the process, it doesn't necessarily tell us the why, nor does the science of evolution in itself uphold or debunk the God as creator claim specifically.

The non creationist theist says God was behind evolution, and the atheist says there was no God.
These are all just opinions, and has nothing to do with science. There are so many atheists who tout evolution, but are damn ignorant of the evolution they yap about all day long. They think the atheists are the heroes of science and science is atheistic dogma.

We are discussing your ideology here, and I am tired of correcting atheists on this one misunderstanding all the time, your atheistic ideology or interpretation of science does not equate to science, this goes for the theists as well. So when explaining these things, let us discuss our ideologies specifically.

Why is that a question for atheists specifically? It surely is more aptly aimed at evolutionary biologists.
No the question is for atheists specifically, because I am not arguing against evolution, I'm arguing against the interpretation of evolution by atheists. Many religious people accept evolution too.
Here is link to the talk origins website, as well as answering all your questions on evolution, it has a list of creationist propaganda claims that most creationists don't see aware that science has debunked
Am I a creationist? I am only asking you the why behind evolution, and how it relates to the God question, not the truth or falsehood of evolution.
I don't know, what objective evidence can you demonstrate for one? I'm pretty much an old hag now, and no theists has been able to demonstrate any thus far.
This question have been answered so many times, but you don't wanna deal with it, you keep asking it. The logical evidence is the existence of the world that we live in, and the fact that we exist, it is more logical to conclude that something or an intelligence made my hand evolve to be this way, so I can use it the way I currently use it.
So when you say objective evidence, is it objective evidence from a lab result or a scientific law? if so, then not everything we know today comes from such kind of evidence.

Again, I know that my father is my father, even though I do not look so much like him physically, but I have faith that my mother was faithful, I do not need a DNA test report.
Then you ask me, what objective evidence do you have to claim that your father is your father even without a DNA test, and you keep saying you haven't found one yet, but then until you define what type of objective evidence you are talking about, it becomes meaningless.
Is objective evidence a DNA test? I don't need one, my logic tells me that if I exist, and I have been living with my mum and so called father, and they took care of me till this time, it is more logical to accept the thesis that this is indeed my father.
I may be wrong, but it would be more foolish for me to insist on a DNA test before believing that he is my father. The more logical default for now before the DNA test, is that I am the son of my so called father.
Not every form of knowledge comes from a kind of lab or test report, not even in science.
What you should be asking is: What logical evidence do you have for the existence of a God? then I present the logical evidence and we discuss the foolishness or merit thereof.
FYI, Evolution is the way you describe it because it is randomness that is filtered. Not unlike a drunkard's walk.
Randomness that is filtered cannot be so precise. It is more logical to assume that nature has been pre programmed from the big bang. Randomness that is filtered can give algorithms like a drunkards' walk, but it's still a stretch of faith to conclude that this algorithm produced humans and the world, with life on earth, and made the earth livable bringing in all necessary conditions and stuff like that. The algorithm seem to know that we would need copper and iron someday, and it produced all of these in time billions of years ago after the big bang. The algorithm produced living things from a material earth all by itself just like that without a program using it? I am not arguing against the existence of the algorithm, but I am saying even if it exist, it is been applied via programming, this is why it could give birth to life on earth( the only planet with evidence of life so far).
The fact that there are these algorithms or programming laws that could lead to humans like you and I, and a spinning earth like this with all the perfect minute conditions for life, brings the theists to the logical conclusion that there is an intelligence in nature or a program at work. I am simply saying that this intelligence and life force was infused from the big bang.
If you argue otherwise, then would you admit that your conclusion is also a leap of faith? then show me why yours is more reasonable than mine.
Remember, we are not discussing the truth of evolution, but our interpretation of this truth. We use logic to interpret the evidence before us. Even in archeology, after the physical evidence, we put 1 and 2 together most times to arrive at a reasonable conclusion, while there may be other interpretations to the physical evidence.
How do you know nothing is even possible? Until you do the question seems so loaded as to make it rather facile. Either way I don't see how this remotely evidences any deity, or anything supernatural.
Well before the big bang, there was no universe. Also before you were born, you didn't exist I guess. So we know that nothing means non existent.
Let's pretend that evolution is completely wrong. 100% wrong. In fact, all of science is wrong [medicine, physics, astronomy, psychology, philosophy], and every other branch of science you can imagine. Every single branch is wrong… How does that prove the existence of your god? [b]You do not win by default. Ignorance pays
Well if science is wrong on evolution, the default assumption ( as it had been before evolution theory) would continue to be that god or gods created the world, so a higher intelligence created the world and us.
You either offer evidence for the existence of your god or you tuck your tail between your legs and run away like the loser you are trying not to be.
I believe I have discussed the issue of evidence above.

The human eye is fragile and poorly designed. There’s a blind spot right in the middle, and we have to waste brain power rectifying inverted images. The eye itself is an extremely fragile mess of jelly and is vulnerable to damage from dust, impacts, and even excessively strong light. Have you heard the expression "blind as bat"? Well bats have better vision than us, especially in low-light conditions.

No designer would be satisfied with the many defects and compromises in the human eye. It’s exactly what you’d expect to emerge from chance mutations combined with natural selection. It's evidence of the non-existence of a creator god.

Plus, MuttleyLaff, let us not forget that other animals have superior eyes. The mantis shrimp eyes have many superior characteristics. Some raptor birds function like telescopes. Cats can see where to us humans it is pitch black. Chameleons can rotate their eyes.

Of course, all of this makes a sham of the claim we were designed in the image of a god.

The question I have for you is this:
Why is there a human eye in the first place?
Why did it evolve to function the way it does?

You even admitted that other animals have better eyes than us, fine. However, we as humans generally have better brains than those animals, so couldn't it be that there is a creator who wasn't interested in giving an all perfect design ( probably in order to create a sort of balance) but a creator nonetheless?

If evolution is a disorganised or random process, why is it so self directed? it seems to me to be pre programmed.

I think what we should be concerned about, is not whether or not a creator exist ( because a creator most likely exists) but rather who this creator is and why the creator exists in the first place.

Why is there something rather than absolute nothing?

Actually, that's action and a history of your own ability… say you have a history of getting Bs to A and you have an interest in your subject material. You study, listen take notes - pass tests. Your "faith" is confidence in yourself to accomplish
your goal.

Some people have an irrational view of themselves and this might lead to “faith” in their abilities - even though there is no evidence for it - like some of these folks
Exactly, confidence in yourself, in God, or in something, for certain reasons, is what is called Faith.
Even if they have irrational views of themselves, it is still Faith, but not faith on solid grounds.
Faith in jesus or God to me, is based on solid grounds, if the words of jesus when applied to my life for instance, turn things around for me as compared to my previous ways, then I can say that I have some reasons for my faith( they may not be completely rational reasons and they may be subjective, but at least they are also not totally irrational as well nor am I without reasons for believing).
Religion / Re: What Is Faith Really? by Daejoyoung: 4:59pm On Jul 18, 2020
Tamaratonye5:

This is where religion makes people into irresponsible and illogical creatures, in my opinion of course. I am confident you are a "good" person, and if we encountered each other in person, notwithstanding anything religion, we would probably buy drinks and enjoy a wonderful time together.

But then along comes religion. You advocate fully buying into something, without checking it out. But ask yourself, do you do that in any other aspect of your life? Would you send five million naira to a complete stranger because he says "trust me", in the promise of a ten-fold return? Or buy a house without first having it inspected? Of buy a car without checking out how reliable it is? Would you send your children to a school that you did not check out first? Or cross a major express road without looking both ways?

Please, ponder the folly of accepting anything before some form of validation or examination.
Your mistake is that you think faith just comes without checking or inspection. If there is no reason to believe, then it is useless.

In John 6v45, we read jesus saying that WHOEVER wants to do the will of God or has been taught by God would know if his words are true or not and they would come to him. This means that they would be convinced.
There is a certain form of knowledge you have that triggers faith. Faith usually does not need so much rational reasoning before coming alive, but rational reasons could be part of its ingredients.

Even when jesus was recorded as saying to Thomas, blessed are those who have not seen but believe. That belief is still not blind faith, it comes from understanding the scriptures that the messaiah should die and rise again for the hope of Israel to become realized.
Thomas should have understood the scriptures that jesus would rise again, even without seeing. Apart from the scriptures, Thomas had also seen the miracles of jesus, and heard the teachings of jesus, and concluded that jesus was the messiah, if jesus was the Messiah and jesus said he would die and rise again, then Thomas should have faith ( even without further evidence or without seeing) that jesus would rise again from the dead.

It's difficult, but I tried to explain Biblical Faith there, it is not blind or totally without rational as many atheists and even Christians assume.

Kobojunkie:

Jesus Christ, the New Covenant, is explicit about the promise of a Kingdom of Heaven. Beginning in Matthew 5, He makes clear through the details of the blessings of the Covenant that indeed Heaven is a destination for a select.

In Matthew 6, i believe, He continues by explicitly commanding that all His followers seek First the Kingdom of Heaven, and God's righteousness...

In Matthew 25, He reiterates that only a select will indeed enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Jesus Christ also provides at least 10 parables about said Kingdom of Heaven, and even states that only those who become like children will indeed enter into the Kingdom of God.

Just as the disciples were able to learn of there acceptance into the Kingdom while they were yet alive, i believe everyone who is chosen will know even while they yet live that indeed the Kingdom awaits them after they close their eyes for the last time here on earth.

The old Covenant did not offer each individual israelite eternal life, not did it come with a promise of everlasting life for each of the children of Israel. So it cannot be compared to the New Covenant that is Jesus Christ, and so cannot be used as a valid argument against all that Jesus Christ said about the Kingdom of God being a destination and not a state of mind(rest).
Well the kingdom jesus spoke about is not a spiritual place above the skies, it is a kingdom that would be here on earth but given from above. The kingdom of God simply means the rule of God. That rule is to be here on earth, the kingdom would accompany the resurrection of dead bodies, where the righteous rule with christ and reign. Jesus taught us to live our lives as though the kingdom has already begun with us here on earth.
All his parables were about that physical kingdom that was to be given from above, not established by the hands of men. This is in sync with the old testament promise also.

The bible did not promise a so called heaven in the sky. The bible speaks about a resurrection and the righteous inheriting the earth. Did the old testament also tell us if David or Abraham made heaven? I don't think it did. That's because the Christian notion of going to heaven is an evolved doctrine. What the people of the bible looked forward to was the "resurrection" with new bodies, living in new jerusalem ( the land flowing with milk and honey).

So in that sense, neither Solomon, David, Abraham, etc made heaven, from my understanding of the bible though, and yes I could be wrong or right, it's open for discussion.

Please it's Germany safe for black students?
There are so many black students in Germany from all over Africa, you wouldn't believe it. Even the so called East Germany is very very safe for blacks and safer than many parts of Nigeria. When I was about travelling to Germany, people had thesame stereotype, like I would be attacked by racists immediately I arrive, but I keep wondering till this day why many feel that way. Of course there are racist groups, but even in East Germany l've hardly seen them, I only hear about them. You are probably safer in Germany ( security wise) as a black man than in the U.S(going by the news of several killings of blacks in the U.S at least).
Also is German also really difficult as they say
it's not that German is so difficult like probably Arabic or Chinese, but rather English is too simple. So when comparing German to English, German is more difficult to learn properly. For example to say : "the boy", "the woman", "the girl" all use the definite artikel THE, but in German it is der(for boy), die(for woman), das(for girl), sometimes you would also have den, dem, and stuff like that, all meaning THE. So this means that words and expressions can change depending on what you are talking about.
Then lastly, can I stay there even after my studies to maybe work or establish a business?
I'll be awaiting your reply. Thanks
Like many other things in life, " IT DEPENDS ".

Thank you my brother,I just feel it is too late to pursue first degree in design at 35years..would have love to do it.
Surprisingly for German schools, age rarely matters. In my opinion, it is not too late, if it is a career you love. Of course you can also apply for jobs in Design ( or similar) directly from Nigeria, you can also check for Masters program in design ( or similar) and apply anyway. The Bachelor application thing could just be one of your various applications and plans.
Starting a Bachelor's program in Germany also have its' advantages, because you are guaranteed 7-9 years of stay ( since you have the opportunity to continue with masters), and in a carrer like Design( whether interior, graphic, U.I/U.X), many employers just need a Bachelor's degree and that's all.
The only downside is that it takes 3 years, but there are compulsory internships.
In the end however, the decision is yours. I'm just giving out information, to help you weigh your options.

If you apply for Masters program in Design, while having a degree in Industrial Chemistry, your chances of getting admission would be slim, but not impossible( especially if you have good portfolio). However it is safer to apply for a first degree again. Germans value specialization a lot, they do not seem to understand this switching of a thing, so most Masters Design courses would require a degree in Design or similar.
However with your good portfolio, you may find one or two schools willing to accept you, but they would likely be few.

God bless you,i will do that now.My other concern is:Is it in demand in Germany?can i get job after grad?is it worth it as am already 35years.
Anyone can state there opinion pls
Yes it is, since you have a good portfolio, you can also apply for internship while in school.
It is in demand in places like Berlin. You may have to learn German to an extent though depending on the requirements of the company.

Great thread. I must add that before travelling to Germany, it would be helpful to study German up to intermediate level ( if you have the time). Also your driving license could be important at some point for jobs.

I am an interior designer with good potfolio.
I have been executing project since 2015 and my company
is registered.I want to migrate to Germany via study pathway.
Kindly advice which course i can do for MSC.
NOTE:My first degree is Industrial chemistry but i hate chemistry
Therefore,i can not do anything related to chemistry.
Can i get something under construction or interior design?

You can search for design courses generally on daad.de. You check for Bachelor's in Design first, because you have a degree not related to Design, and so getting a masters program directly would be difficult, but you can still check for the requirements of various schools ( Masters and Bachelors) on daad.de.
