Very interesting read. I always wondered what it would be like to witness a coup. Thanks for insight. |
The problem I have with this idea is that having prisoners do work would reduce the value of work for non-prisoners. In short, law-abiding citizens would suffer under lower wages because the prisoners are willing to do work for cheaper. |
That is the exact reason why strong Ethnic related groups should be built. What about African countries with multiple independent ethnic groups not getting along don't you understand? |
Akowole, stop lieing. Nigeria is a failure and everyone knows it. Just because you fail to open your eyes, does not mean other people are blind to reality. Maybe you have never been out of the country. Hence, you think things are ok because you don't know any better. Like they say, everything is relative. If you got a chance to experience how proper nations functioned, you would know that Nigeria is anything but ok. |
You don't need popular support for a civil war. All you need is a large number of dedicated, armed, able-bodied men/women that are willing to die for the cause. |
Nigerias status because we have oil. Where it not for all, no one (outside of Nigeria) would consider the country anything but a living example of how not to make a nation. And those figures are accurate. Just because you are an Upper-Upper middle class Nigerian does not mean that conditions in the country are not horrid. You should take a trip to the villages in the lesser known States in the creation of the British Nigeria. As for our politicians flying in private jets, I can't say I blame them. The nation has little in the way to inspire the people. |
Panafrican, very true. That is why I said there would be less in-fighting. You have to come up with a basic ground before differences can be settled. In the case of African countries, this basic ground always boils down to the British and French (for the most part) thinking certain geographical shapes would be kool to make into nations. Hence, trying to put an end to in-fighting while siting that we are all part of these artificial crap is only going to worsen the problem. Ethnic States do have a future. While not every country is in need of Ethnic States, others are. At the very least, States based on Ethnic groups that are similar to each other. If you are truly African, you would know that certain groups have similar cultures and languages and in general get along better than others. Such groups could combine to make sovereign States that are capable of rapid development. Note:Germany, France and the vast Majority of European countries are all ethnic states. You are only fooling yourselves if you think that nations based on false borders can truly be successful. As for the inter-ethnic fighting that goes on, that has as much to do with frustration over the pathetic state of these Artificial boundaries as it has to do with weak sense of Ethnic identity. There might be a time when Pan-Africanism is called for, but I will not support it till I am satisfied with the borders of West Africa. P.S. I will post a link to some information on European history and the formation of their States. It is the least I can do to get people to give up these illusions. |
GL, they believe everyone basically gets as much freedom as possible as long it does not negatively impact the lives of others. So, things like a ban on gay marriage or certain religious sects (As long as they are not hurting others) would not be tolerated by Libertarians. Personally, I don't like the libertarian mind-set. It is almost as if they assume that people are naturally good and can some how be trusted to make right decisions. It is my understanding that people that do not adhere to natural laws (i.e. not living nude out in the woods) are corrupted and therefore cannot be trusted to make untainted decisions. Hence, I would rather a fair and just government make the rules that all should follow. Yes, you lose some personal freedoms in a Statist State, but the collective glory of the State would be compensation enough. |
If those small countries were constructed along ethnic lines (Like the way most Countries around the World are constructed) there would be less internal fighting and more resources can/will be devoted to development. That is excellent for the Nigerians and other Africans that believe in Pan-Africanism. Well, I don't. If I was in a position of power, there would no talk of such non-sense. I do not take kindly to unification amongst strangers. I don't know you, I don't want to know you, and while I might not do anything to harm you, I also will not go out of my way to help you. In as long as you are not a member of my State (Real State. I.e. no Artificial crap), you are no different than anyone else. Forget my opinion on this Pan-African issue for a second. The biggest problem with your philosophy is how do you create Nationalism (Very critical in every country) when the people are so different? Are you going to some how pretend that everyone within these artificial boundaries likes each other? Or are you going to pretend that ethnic groups don't exist? (Refer to Nigeria's recent census. Hooray for One Nigeria) Pan-Africanism is flawed and only till these artificial borders are made official can there truly be cooperation between AU States. |
The actual figure of Nigeria's GDP per Capita places the country in at 19th on the (number 1 being the poorest country in the world). However, this figure also takes into account huge amounts of stolen Government money that is still being attributed to the economy even though it is technically not a part of GDP (I.e. It is in Swiss bank or being spent in London). Note: I am very busy so I will not provide a link to back up my claims. (Do a google search or something ) |
Panafrican ideology has always been dead to me. I would rather the creation of small but strong State. Than a large retarded entity. |
Thats an excellent point. The government might want to look into funding a public education program to inform the population what each of branch of Government is there for. Honestly, a Federal Democracy is fairly complicated, especially when you consider that the only long-lasting governing system that most Nigerians have ever known have been Military Dictatorship. Hence, the reason that a lot of people are convinced Obj is "chopping" their money, instead of directing their anger at Governors, LG Chairmen and their Reps in the National Assembly. |
All men are virgins as long as they are prepared to tell a little lie. |
Total garbage. Such vague non-sense. Charlatans like this should be shot for corrupting the minds of the youth. I don't believe at all. And come to think about it, the guy is so vague in his so-called professes that there really is nothing to believe in. As for his comments about the economy getting better, anyone with half a brain cell would know that current situations in the State and international community bodes well for Nigeria's economic future. Believe him if you want. I am not ready, nor am I in a position to control the minds of our beloved. However, if the time does come, this madness will come to an end. Either way, his professes are not in line with my desires for the State. Note: My views on this man might change if you post the date he published his professes. |
Some Senators care. However, there are just too many alliances in the present day National situation that it is not like one Senator can make a difference. On basically any issue, the votes are already pre-determined based on factors that I would not mention for fear of being labeled a trouble maker. ![]() And while on the topic of Senators, there should be a minimum educational requirement for people to run in elections for the National Assembly. I find it difficult to imagine how a semi-illiterate Senator or Rep, can come up with convicing arguments to sway the minds of fellow members of the National Assembly. Not to mention I bury my head in shame when some of our law makers open their mouth in front of National television. Maybe they should be given a comprehensive Writing and Reading test before they are allowed to get on the ballot. |
The cleaning issues that Lagos is experiencing also has a lot to do with with residents. Most people in Lagos are not from the State, as such, they couldn't careless what happens to it. Similar to how you won't throw trash on the floor at home, but you might in the class room. Especially when whoever is in charge is unable or unwilling to make sure people do the right thing. This goes back to the lack of resources in Lagos State that make it impossible to actually enforce sanitation laws. No amount of ideas or vision can save Lagos from filth, unless there is enough resources to back enforcement of sanitation laws. |
To be honest, it doesn't matter what ethnic group we come from. It is only a matter of 4-5 decades because our respective groups are all dead. Even now, you run into a lot of Yorubas that can't speak the language. If you can't speak the language, then what are you? Nothing. |
Baby4u2, that would take far too much work. Whatever system that is implemented (if there would be a system) will have to automatically assign ranks once you pass a post count mark. |
According to www.answer.com (note: I checked multiple websites just to make sure they too are reporting similar figures.) The average Ghanaian income is $2,300 annually.(some sites have it as high as $2,500 yearly. 2.3 times that of the average Nigerian) http://www.answers.com/topic/ghana-1 The average Beninese income is $1,200 annually. http://www.answers.com/topic/benin-1 The average Ivorian income is $1,500. http://www.answers.com/topic/c-te-d-ivoire (yes, thats right. The average Ivorian, a country that is in the middle of a civil war, makes 50 percent more than the average Nigerian.) The average Nigerian income is $1,000 annually. http://www.answers.com/topic/nigeria Also keep in mind that I have been to the major cities in Benin Republic (Cotonou and Port Novo) and both of them have constant electricity. Both cities are also more beautiful than the nicer parts of Lagos. So, like I was saying, continue to look down on other West-African countries while Nigeria lags behind. I guess it is true what they say, ignorance is bliss. |

It depends. If you recently gained weight or are pregnant, then they would appear. However, there are also some conditions that would create stretch marks even though your actual size remains the same. I'll do some research in this in about 3 hours. (After exams) The ones you get from diseases/illness should vanish once you treat the cause. But I can't think of any treatment right now. Maybe later. |
Taking into account the present situation in Nigeria, God has done everything but bless Nigeria (Second poorest country in the world). Yep, thats right. Even poorer than Somalia that has no central government. IBB should be killed if he tries to take power. This madness must stop. You do not steal billions and all of a sudden repent. If he was really sorry about what he has done, he would give back what is left of his stolen loot and then commit suicide out of shame. |
Ojukwu_rsg, I hope you are not comparing a small country like Liberia to Nigeria. Nigeria has over 12 times the population of Liberia and it is a lot more ethnically diverse. Like I said earlier, elect a woman at this time, and the filth in the Military would be there to seize power within days. *Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been elected President *1 min later* Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been deposed in a coup *[Insert poorly educated Military man]: My fellow patriots . . . . . |
