Lol@poverty mentality - how is it poverty mentality to ask sane questions biko?

We elected someone (Saraki) that claims he and his wife comes from a wealthy lineage - they steal
We elected a poor lecturer who had no shoes - he stole

So which is poverty mentality and which is wealthy mentality... cheesy cheesy
Nobody should tell Saraki and Mark they both need to resign immediately

I'm good sis. Yeah, been very busy with work these days...miss u lots kiss
The mind boggles at how much money do we really need. undecided undecided huh

I ask these questions but a lot of people tell me same poverty mentality or its because I am not yet in that position.

Its different if you become wealthy by being an entrepreneur/innovator because you are creating jobs, adding value and very often creating a legacy that would most likely outlive you e.g. the Henry Fords, Steve Jobs etc of this world.

But to just be stealing and stashing away billions and billions especially by people who have never lacked or seen poverty in the real sense, I just cant lipsrsealed lipsrsealed I really cant lipsrsealed

grin grin grin grin

Ediwife ooooo grin grin grin

All those parents here in Nigeria. I'm not talking of obodo oyinbo o.I mean here in Nigeria who leave their kids for weeks and leave food in the fridge for them to help themselves while they are away nko? It's part of letting them grow fast and taking care of themselves and their siblings independently when you're away

My owanmbe friends do that.though the kids may break few plates but they cope and they do well.so I don't see anything wrong. I mean for adolescents o not young lads cheesy
This sambarry ehn grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

I 100% agree with Edwife on this though.

However I disagree that this is the norm even in Nigeria( I grew up in Nigeria) it is irresponsible to leave a 10/13 year old at home UNSUPERVISED for weeks on end just to party. Maybe a 16 and 13 year old ( even that sef you should have a guardian check in on them once in a while you cant just leave SOME teenagers to their own devices). The issue and why she got into trouble was not making arrangements for an adult guardian to check in on them while she was away( and away for such a flimsy reason).

At Topic, wont pay them for chores but I believe in Incentivising children for going above and beyond. I feel certain chores are just what you need to do but if you for instance spend hours helping me clear out the loft with a lot of work that you would not normally do , I believe you should be rewarded for it. I had that as a child and will do the same for my children.

byvan03:
One woman told me " I feel sorry for you ", I laughed her to scorn. I wanted boys only and had them, why then should someone feel sorry that I have what I wanted? I only wish God gives as we ask to reduce the problem some women are facing because of such issues. I know a neighbour with 3 sons, she had to go for number 4 because husband threatened her with a second wife for not having a female yet.

Surprisingly the male child issue isn't just an African thing even though it's more prevalent in Africa . I watched a real life story on IDX about a Caucasian woman that murdered her female kids at infancy and raised the boys only. I know how much an Asian friend of mine wants a male child because of the birth restrictions. I really wish people can be more grateful for whatever gender God blessed them with. One useful child irrespective of gender is better than 7 useless sons or daughters.
So true at bold.

Serial killers, terrorists, murderers etc are all someone's children.
FamilyRe: No Male Child Yet, I Feel Suicidal Sometimes by damiso(f): 9:49am On Apr 05, 2016
byvan03:
Suicide for what reason? Let me tell you one thing you don't know, people get an earful for not having female children too. There is no trash that I have not heard, a woman with two daughters out rightly told me that you have no kid if you don't have a female. When she had her 3rd daughter, she nearly ruined her health over it, BP skyrocketing and all. I was amazed on the complexity of human nature, few months earlier you yab*bed another woman for having all boys, why aren't you giving a testimony when God blessed you with a third daughter?

My point is this, every one gets a jab in this crazy world . You have all girls, it's a problem, all boys? They will still mock you! A boy and a girl? They complain that it's just one boy and an only daughter, 2 boys and a girl? They will complain that your daughter has no sister. You have no life if you keep worrying about this crazy society and their idiosyncrasies. I personally don't give a damn if both the dead and the living rolls over on top my matter. Raise the wonderful kids God has given you, if you feel up to it, try what Delishpot mentioned and be prepared for either outcome.

Some pray for just one, just one my dear, yet nothing. Be more than grateful, thank God everyday of your life that you can conceive and birth successfully. You want to die because of what people say? Lol, they will still laugh at you for dying, may be you will kill yourself again when that happens . My MIL told me stories of how she was mocked by other women for not having daughters, the fact that she cried for these women's jabs was funny to me. People will always see something to mock at, you don't live to please them.
Very well said. People say that ish a lot to people who have only boys i.e. . Boys don't care of you and people still then go ahead to mock those who have only girls. The mind boggles. undecided

At OP I know nothing we might say might make you feel better but as I know someone who lost a child last week, Just be grateful and thankful for the ones you already have. Treasure them. be grateful they are alive, well and healthy.

Okay, need some advice pls. I went food shopping and bought some nice looking almond seeds. Thing is, I've never used them so don't know what to do with them. What can they be used for? Suggestions pls...

In no particular order: Edwife, Smartmom, Chillisauce, Cococandy, Babygirlfl, Naijababe, Kimoni, Ifyalways, thelish, Damiso, Burntpalace, Sambarry, and anyone else.

Me, I wan use them for Easter cooking, but with what / how? huh huh
Just logged In but based on following comments your baked goods sounded yummy ( where is that iphone lip licking emoticon).

I just eat almonds and looooove them . They are my standard go to snack but very calorie dense so these days I try to measure my portions cos if I don't I could go through a 200 gram bag in one sitting. I love almond croissants dieeee but these days they are a treat embarassed

Exactly, how can the same rumor be peddled against the same person year on year undecided na only him be the male teacher ni? And to make matters worse, they are now recruiting innocents students to carry placard in public angry arrant nonsense! Dem lucky say my child no dey there, I for just hammer. Early retirement things wink cheesy

Anyway, I'm glad the issue is gaining wider attention everyday. Naija'll get there!!

A lot of people think I was wink wink I wonder why too huh I would have said maybe cos y'all think am posh tongue but you suppose think say na Vivian Fowler/Atlantic Hall/Home Science I go then grin grin

At this point there should be an independent unbiased investigation into the whole issue and the teacher needs to be on some sort of leave of absence while that is going on. That's what you get when results i.e. exam grades are more important than the welfare of the children.

Damiso, are you following the drama playing out in QC? The students' protest?? shocked shocked

Joy Bewaji has challenged you old students, her write up is on FB. The comments under it are quite interesting and hilarious.

I have read accusations and counter accusations from most parties and I am wondering who the heck is this teacher's juju man?

Principal after principal keep receiving similar petitions about him, yet somehow, they always manage to clear his name and he comes out squeaky clean shocked shocked

Like seriously?? (in Toyin's Aimakhu's voice)
I am not a QC old gal o cheesy I wonder at the whole story e really get as e be. undecided very fishy something. and the gals protesting just threw me too.

More often than not though, when there tends to be various suspicions/accusations about a person being a paedophile it ends up being true. Reminds of me of the Jimmy Saville case here, there had always been rumours, whispering about him abusing young children and it had to be when he was dead and could no longer face justice that it all blew open angry angry angry

Shock:
What 'Happening' Nigerian churches would you recommend? I am in similar situation as the OP
Depending on where you live ,most of the big 'brand' ( sorry could not think another adjective) churches i.e. RCCG, Winners, Christ Embassy, House on the rock etc. would tend to have a big parish/branch. For instance in RCCG, Jesus House in Brent Cross Comes to mind, Fola Alade church in the East ( think he has left RCCG) its in Ilford or Canary Wharf not too sure. and loads of others.

Personally though, I am sometimes wary of the 'happening' church hook ups. I would prefer not to expand on that so I don't come off as being judgemental.

However, they do work for some people. Especially for those who are very particular about their spouses being Nigerian.

LOL grin grin grin lots of good tips from others cant really add much.

On the train issue it really depends on what time you travel. I tend to travel before the peak rush hour times and yes I have even made a friend who notices when I am not the train. However, after a really annoying commute to work this morning though rush hour embarassed embarassed embarassed I can feel the OP on not being in the mood for chit chat or chatting up people when travelling during peak times.

Tearoses is spot on the Pure Gym bit as well. grin

Join a gym and attend classes . Spin especially grin grin grin There tends to be a lot girls in Spin class and so the few bros dotted will be noticed. the girls might not be Nigerian though wink wink wink but you can never know wink

If you are really bent on the Nigerian gal angle though, the surest( not necessarily the best) bet is to attend a 'Happening' Nigerian Church.

Has to be. TeHN is a charity organisation. This however is more of an opportunity for nairalanders to invest in other people's ideas and receive a specific return. The returns could be units of produce like, for example, in a kickstarter project where a start up to produce say ankara fabrics will give samples to every one that contributed to the startup as their return, or a situation where investors to the startup become co-owners of said startup.

I am invoking the TeHN system as the folks running TeHN have proven to be able to sift the many many tares from the wheat here on Nairaland plus already have established reputations within the Nairaland community.
Very similar to the case of the guy with the keke napep who also wanted to open a restaurant . Cant seem to remember his name. only in that case there was no returns as it was all charitable giving.

Not too sure how monitoring would work in the sense of getting ROI for those who choose to invest though.

We had set back on the donor.. The doctors said the willing donors are not compatible with her.

I tried though and I have been moderately good so far ( had a few bad days and I cant do without eating rice though I just eat little of it or mostly brown rice ) but just kept going. Gotten to my target weight( even below sef) .I now wear size 10/12.
