Jobs/VacanciesN-power: FG Completes Training Of 774 Extension Workers In Agriculture by dammy13(op): 4:59pm On Jul 07, 2017
About 774 extension workers have completed the Federal Government training in the use of modern technologies in delivering extension services in the agricultural sector of the economy under its N-Power programme.

This was stated in a report the programme by the Director-General, National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services, Prof. Mohammed Othman.

Othman’s agency was responsible for the training programme tagged, ‘Agro Master Trainers.’

He said the trainees were drawn from all the local government areas in the country.

According to him, the exercise, which is part of the Federal Government’s Agricultural Development Plan being executed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, resulted in the training of 774 extension personnel to work as master trainers for the 30,000 youths engaged under the N-Power Agro Programme?

Othman stated, “The agricultural sector is one of the critical sectors in the first phase of the N-Power programme because it is capable of employing more than half of the nation’s unemployed graduates in the areas of farming, livestock and fisheries, diary production and advisory services delivery.

“Many of the participants are optimistic that the N-Power programme will not only create employment opportunities, but also prepare Nigeria for international outsourcing where young Nigerians can export their products and attract foreign investments that will eventually sustain the economy.

“This is because the training was not only about building the capacity of unemployed graduates for employment as agricultural extension support service providers, but also about empowering senior extension personnel with new effective extension methodologies to enable them to train 100,000 unemployed graduates for agricultural extension service delivery.”

PoliticsBREAKING: Fayose Bans Public Procession, Students’ Activities In Ekiti by dammy13(op): 8:47am On Jul 06, 2017
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has placed a ban on all students’ activities and public procession in the state.

A press release on Thursday morning said it was to forestall the gathering of cultists who want to embark on public procession.

In statement signed by Fayose’s Special Adviser on Public Communications, Lere Olayina, security operatives were said to have been put on the red alert to prevent any such gathering in the state, especially in cities with high students’ population.

It said the ban was coming as a result of the information available to the State Government that cultists will embark on public procession every July 7 in the state.

The statement added: “Security operatives are to also be on red alert in Ijero Ekiti, Oye Ekiti and other towns with high students activities. They are to conduct stop and search on any vehicles within the State.

“There must be no activities of secret cults in Ekiti State henceforth and there must no students procession of any form.

“Anyone found culpable in this act of using cultists to cause anarchy in the State will be dealt with decisively. This directive should be adhered to strictly.”

BusinessNaira May Rise Further Against Dollar As CBN Pumps Additional $195m by dammy13(op): 9:56am On Jul 04, 2017
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in continuation of its drive to ensure liquidity and stability in the foreign exchange (Forex) market, has injected 195 million dollars into various segments of the inter-bank foreign exchange market.

The acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor in a statement on Monday in Abuja said that 100 million dollars was offered to authorised dealers in the wholesale window.

Similarly the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) window was allocated the sum of 50 million dollars.

Also, those seeking forex for the purpose of business and personal travel, tuition and medical bills, among other invisibles, received the sum of 45 million dollars.

Okorafor said that the Bank’s continued intervention was aimed at strengthening the international value of the Naira, while ensuring accessibility to the greenback by customers who required it for genuine purposes.

The CBN in the last round of forex intervention in the inter-bank market on June 28, injected $195million to the wholesale, SMEs and invisibles segments of the market.

Recall that the Naira on Monday slightly appreciated against the dollar at the parallel market.

Naira gained two points to exchange at N365 to the dollar.

Pound sterling and the Euro traded at N465 and N412 respectively.

Trading at the interbank market saw the Naira closed officially at N305.95 to the dollar, while the pound sterling and the Euro closed at N397.12 and N349.22, respectively.

LiteratureEtisalat Prize For Literature Announces 2018 Call For Entries by dammy13(op): 3:19pm On Jul 03, 2017
Etisalat has announced a call for entries for the 2018 #Etisalat Prize for Literature. The opening date for the submissions is 3rd July 2017 and the closing deadline is 18th September 2017. The Etisalat Prize for Literature is the first pan-African literary prize that celebrates African writers of a debut published book of fiction. The Chief Executive Officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher, said the company was delighted to flag off the fifth year of the Etisalat Prize for Literature, which has become a leading platform for the discovery and promotion of African literary talent.

He disclosed that the new panel of judges will comprise: Harry Garuba (chair), Doreen Baingana and Siphiwo Mahala. Willsher added, “Over the years, we have seen the Etisalat Prize for Literature impact on the African literary space by encouraging creative writers and publishers to help tell compelling stories about the African continent, and it is our conviction that the judging panel – made up of very experienced writers, academics, literary critics and editors – will be devoted to upholding the legacy and reputation of the Prize.”

The judging panel will initially select a longlist of nine titles, and following a second round of screening will announce a shortlist of three finalists, ahead of the 2018 grand finale/award ceremony. Outlining the criteria for entry, Willsher said that books submitted must have been published in the previous 24 months from the date of the call for entries. Such books should contain no fewer than 30,000 words and must be the author’s first published fiction book.

The author must be an African citizen, but may reside anywhere in the world. Furthermore, all entries must be submitted by incorporated publishing houses that have existed for six years or more, with registered ISBN or the equivalent, and the publishers must have published a minimum of three authors. A publisher may enter a maximum of three titles. Seven copies of each title entered must accompany the application form, along with an acceptance of the publicity terms of the Etisalat Prize http://prize.etisalat.com.ng/terms.php .

The winner receives £15,000, an engraved Montblanc Meisterstück pen, and an Etisalat-sponsored fellowship at the University of East Anglia, where he or she will be mentored by Professor Giles Foden, author of The Last King of Scotland’. The winner and the two runners-up also participate in a multi-city book tour sponsored by Etisalat.

Etisalat purchases 1,000 copies of each of the shortlisted titles for distribution to schools, libraries and book clubs across the African continent. Alongside the Prize for Literature is the Flash Fiction Award, an online-based competition open to all African writers of unpublished short stories of no more than 300 words. The winner of the Flash Fiction Award receives £1,000 and a high-end device, while the two runners-up for the Flash Fiction Award receive £500 each in addition to high-end devices.

SportsBarcelona Legends 1 – 3 Manchester United Legends Highlights 2017 by dammy13(op): 5:26pm On Jul 01, 2017
Manchester United partied like it was 1999 as the Red Devils legends defeated Barcelona in a charity match at the Nou Camp on Friday.

Despite Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert gracing the pitch once again for the Catalans, it was the men from Manchester who triumphed, goals from Jesper Blomqvist, Karel Poborsky and Dwight Yorke firing them to a 3-1 win.

Blomqvist and Poborsky netted either side of half-time before United captain Dwight Yorke, who famously scored here on the way to the Treble in 1999, iced the cake with a fine finish from outside the box. Frederic Dehu scored a consolation for the home side with the last kick of the game.

NYSCNYSC Empowers Physically Challenged Persons With Wheelchairs In Ondo [photos] by dammy13(op): 8:36pm On Jun 29, 2017
https://fabinfos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/IMG_20170629_193656_914.jpg

The residents of Ose and Owo Local Government Area who are physically challenged have benefited respectively from the distribution of the wheelchair by National Youth Service Corps.

The event which took place earlier at the Owo local Government Secretariat witnessed a large turnout of people of the area who could not hold back their appreciation for the scheme’s gesture towards the people.

Speaking at the event, the chairman of Owo Local Government, Hon. Durodola Omoluka who was represented by the Director of Administration of the Local Government, Barr. Dare Onipede described NYSC as one of the good things in the country that keep the hope of the people alive. He further stated that the distributed wheelchairs will go a long way to ease the mobility of the beneficiaries. He therefore enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the A-class chairs to justify the purpose for which they were provided.

The Chairman also assured security of the corps members in the area. He said the area is relatively peaceful but nevertheless “ we are going to make sure corps members enjoy maximum security…you have nothing to worry about“ He added

Meanwhile,the State Coordinator of NYSC Ondo state, Mr Sunny Aroni disclosed that the scheme deemed it fit to cater for the well being of the people. He said;

“It has been imperative on NYSC to see to reach out to indigent members of the society who might find it difficult to access medical attention…this is evident in Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers of NYSC championed by the Director General, Brig Gen S.Z Kazaure.

The programme is designed mainly by the scheme to cater for the health needs of the people in the rural areas across the country. Hence, the one we are witnessing today should be considered extension of the HIRD.”

The NYSC State coordinator further encouraged people who are facing one or the other health related challenges not to lose hope for there is always solution for those who keep their hope alive. He added that the beneficiaries should not see the gesture of the scheme in giving the wheelchair as one done out of pity, but rather to identify with them through a special show of love.

Mr Aroni however availed the avenue to solicit for improved welfare for the Corps Members in the state. The coordinator who likened his yearning for better package for Corps Members to the proverbial Olivier twist appreciated government for her effort toward the running of the scheme in the state. He added that it would be a pillar up if there could be improved on the welfare to make them feel more at home.
