​Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa and Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos have been rated among the worst 20 airports.

This is outcome of a survey by renowned aviation organization, Sleep in Airport (sleepinairports.net).

The website ranked Lagos the fifth worst airport in the world, while Port Harcourt was ranked the third worst airport globally.

The criteria used included comfort (gate seating and availability of rest zones), services, facilities and things to do, food options, immigration/security, customer service, cleanliness, navigation and ease of transit and sleepability.

The website explained that the airports that appeared on the list of worst airports in the world are those that have the capacity to truly offend travellers.

“Within these terminals, there appears to be a general disinterest in a positive traveller experience. In some cases, passengers are made to stand or sit on the floor as they await their flights. In others, the bathrooms don’t have water, toilet paper, or any semblance of cleanliness,” it said.

“In some cases, the physical structure of the airport is fine, but the personnel are the problem. Got a problem? Don’t expect much in terms of customer service at these airports.

“If you find yourself travelling through one of these 20 terminals, brace yourself. You’ll want to give yourself just enough time to get in and get out. A minute more and you’ll be unhappy and uncomfortable – a minute less, and you risk missing your flight”, it added.

In order of ranking, the worst five airports in the world comprised Juba International Airport, South Sudan (JUB), Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport, Saudi Arabia (JED), Port Harcourt International Airport, Nigeria (PHC), Crete Heraklion International Airport, Greece (HER) and Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nigeria (LOS).

Others are Santorini Thira National Airport, Greece (JTR), Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport, Tanzania (DAR), Rhodes International Airport, Greece (RHO), Paris Beauvais-Tille Airport, France (BVA), Tashkent International Airport, Uzbekistan (TAS) and London Luton International Airport, England (LTN).

Others on the list were Rome Ciampino International Airport, Italy (CIA), Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal (KTM), New York City LaGuardia, USA (LGA), Chania International Airport, Greece (CHQ), Caracas Simón Bolívar International Airport, Venezuela (CCS), Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, China (CAN), Cluj International Airport, Romania (CLJ), Islamabad Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Pakistan (ISB), and Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, Ethiopia (ADD).

On Port Harcourt airport, the website said for this year’s survey, respondents indicated that aggressive corruption was the biggest problem, with airport officials and staff allegedly demanding bribes for pretty much everything.

Other complaints included lack of bathroom facilities, lack of air conditioning, horrible baggage handling, and the tent that serves as the arrival terminal.

Port Harcourt airport last year was ranked the worst airport in the world by the same website.

On Lagos airport, the website said for many voters, there appears to be no discernible difference in the operations and facilities of the Lagos International Airport, but travellers also complained of massive corruption at the airport.

Others were filthy bathrooms, limited seating, archaic check-in procedures, sporadic air conditioning, and lousy customer service.

​National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has announced the list of requirements for postgraduate students.

This is contained in a statement by its director of media, Malam Ibrahim Sheme, in reaction to reports that some students have not gradated even after taking all their courses.

It said in line with NUC’s Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for Nigerian universities, the minimum pass mark for all postgraduate courses is a “C”, which is a “credit” and carries a grade point of 3 (in clinical/pharmaceutical sciences, it is a “B”).

‘In terms of the graduation requirements for most programmes, a student is required to have earned a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 and a Total Credit Earned (TCE, meaning the summation of all the courses registered and PASSED) of 30 before they may be pronounced “graduated” by the university”, it read.

“For professional programmes like the MBA, the TCE is far higher. In addition to CGPA and TCE, postgraduate students are similarly expected to have fulfilled other academic requirements like passing all the courses registered, particularly the core courses.

“For example, a postgraduate student must pass the Good Study Guide (GST707/807), which is an introductory course for an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) student, etc. A postgraduate student cannot, for example, fail a core course like Research Project, Research Methodology, etc., and expect to be graduated even though he/she has met the minimum TCE and CGPA for the programme.

“While the mantra of the current University Management is to make NOUN “more NUC than NUC” itself, the University is not unaware of the fact that in the formative years of the university, some of our operations were not properly aligned with the regulatory dictates of the NUC and as such some of the postgraduate students may not have been properly informed on the degree awarding rules for the programmes they applied for.

“We are mindful of this and steps are being taken to, first, adequately sensitise the students who were given admission with effect from the 2016 1st semester on the need to fully comply with the NUC BMAS and, secondly, to come up with a justifiable modality that would ensure that older students who are caught up in the system as a result of their inability to meet the minimum graduation requirements are accommodated.

“Let us be clear that the latter would be done bearing in mind the need to not water down the quality of the degrees and certificates of the National Open University of Nigeria.

“In this regard the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies is in the process of re-examining the cases of students in this category on a case-by-case basis, and its final decision would be deliberated on the floor of the University Senate.”

​Fresh strike may be in the offing across Nigeria Universities as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) holds its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting this week.

The NEC, which is the highest decision making body of the union, is to review Federal government’s implementation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA) it signed with the union before it suspended its strike a few months ago.

Both government and ASUU had agreed to an MoA which stipulated that the federal government would have implemented its agreed contents latest by October, 2017.

The federal government according to investigation, however, was yet to implement issuance of license for the registration of Nigerian University Pension Company (NUPEMCO) which it promised to do within two weeks of strike suspension.

The FG is also defaulting in payment of ‘Earned Academic Allowances and revatilisation funds’ for public universities.

Some lecturers at the University of Ibadan, who spoke with journalists on the condition of anormnity at the weekend noted that it was unfortunate that the government had not paid as promised by end of October.

They said they had asked their leadership not to suspend the strike until the government paid the money as promised but didn’t heed their advice.

Based on the tension generated on campuses, ASUU President Professor Biodun Ogunyemi sent a mail to all the members to douse the tension over the payment of earned academic allowances

“Dear Comrades, the leadership of the union is aware of the palpable tensions on our campuses over the delay in the payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).

“It is therefore not a surprise that for the past three days, a circular dated 24 October, 2017 related to EAA is already trending on some social media network/platforms. The leadership of the union can say categorically that the gaps/Omissions in the said circular were addressed at a meeting with the Honourable Minister of Education last weekend. We have gone far on the matter and there should be results in a matter of days. Thank you”, he wrote.

It was gathered that the Federal Government audit teams have visited campuses and concluded the auditing of staff as agreed but was yet to pay the 23billion Naira promised by the end of October as payment for the 2009/2010 Earned Academic Allowances of lecturers in public universities in Nigeria.

It was also gathered that the NEC of the union will review the implementation of the Memorandum of Action and jointly take a decision on it.

Ayo Fayose abruptly suspended his on spot assessment of the ongoing construction works in Ado, the state capital to branch off and have a brief chat with Hon. Bimbo Daramola , a prominent aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the next gubernatorial election in his situation office situated at Bashiri.

It was that gathered Gov. Fayose on his way to a particular construction site noticed the presence of Bimbo Daramola, the Director General of the rigged John Kayode Fayemi 2014 Governorship Re-Election and stopped and alighted from his convoy and exchanged pleasantries with him before settling for the seats.

The scene of the historic meeting left many ecstatic onlookers lips ajar as Daramola, who was the prime target of the killing squad of the then presidency during the last guber polls also cheerfully dashed out of the office on awareness of the governor’s presence to receive him to the premises.

​The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Zamfara on Thursday announced that it had sanctioned 19 members of the batch “B” Stream 1 of the programme for various offences.

The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Hajiya Walida Isah, announced the punishment at the passing out ceremony of the batch in Gasau.

Isah said eight of the corps members were to repeat the compulsory one year national youth service, for absconding from their duty posts of primary assignment.

She said that the corps members absconded from their duty posts soon after they departed the orientation camp.

The state coordinator added that the 11 other members would have their service year extended for violating various NYSC rules and regulations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 2,415 NYSC members were deployed to Zamfara under the 2016 batch “B” Stream 1.

Isah, however, commended nine of the outgoing corps members who received different awards for their diligence at their different primary assignment duty posts.

She said that three of them received state awards and three were given local government awards while three others got merit awards.

The state coordinator charged the outgoing corps members to utilise what they had learnt during the service year for their future development.

“You know what NYSC trained you for under its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development; you should practise what you have learnt from this programme.

“You should not wait for white collar jobs which are very scarce; you should, as soon as you go back home, embark on various businesses.

“God willing, you would sooner than later, become employers of labour.

“Whatever you are doing, you should be honest, transparent and committed; you should avoid involving yourself in any criminal activity.

“Try to be useful to your parents, society, states and Nigeria in general”, she said.

Isah, who assumed office on Wednesday, took over from the former coordinator, Hajiya Rahmatu Sanda, who is on transfer to Kastina State. (NAN)

One of the toughest thing for a sociable Nigerian university student is to avoid cultist. If he/she is not a member of a cult group, there is the chance that a friend is. And little did we know that we are causing more danger than good to our society at large.

Am not a cultist, have never been one, but I know lot of cultist and we rock.

The spate of blood shedding activities by cult group members in Nigeria is alarming, and the recent killings at the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), is a grim reminder.

The bold truth is there is nothing POSITIVE cult groups have to offer our society, so the big question is, WHY DO WE HARBOR THEM?

I salute the courage of present and past students of EKSU who have taken to social media to denounce association with cult groups, but is that enough to end this menace?

What we need is ZERO tolerance to cult groups and members of this evil confraternity (Zero in this context is literal), We can’t keep on harboring this monsters who are no goods to us, we need to rise to this challenge, so our children and those in the next generation can live a better life. If not we risk being remembered in history as failed people.

Cult groups began in Nigerian universities in a more refined manner, but today, their activities are barbaric and unacceptable.

They have in recent years expanded fast, become bolder, and gradually becoming a societal norm. They have been left largely unchecked by the security agencies thus operating in such ways that they cannot be described as a ‘secret cult’ any longer but a cult group.

Did you know that there was a time when cult groups could no longer breed in Nigerian universities, and were forced to migrate to the communities?

In the late 1990’s there was a nationwide renouncement of cultism by university students and the breakdown of traditional campus cults all over the country. This led to migration of cultists from the campuses to residential neighbourhoods and streets as campuses were no longer a safe haven for them. Though, incompetence of security officials and inadequate facilities to police campuses led to the resurgence of cultism in the campuses.

The sort of renouncement that occurred in the late 1990’s is what we need today, and we just don’t need to restrict ourselves to the university campuses, but the society at large. We don’t need to only sit on social media, but also mobilize ourselves on the streets.

In truth, cultism is just one of the many things that are wrong in Nigeria today, from the glorification of internet fraud, the maniac politicians, the randy lecturers, the botched judiciary, and even the rate of ritual killings. We might not be blamed for believing Frank Miller’s Sin City is a better place to be. But this should only be seen as a challenge, life is full of challenges and we can make Nigeria a better place by shunning the vices in our society, and a good start is ZERO tolerance to cultism.

​The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has published requirements for registration/mobilization, as qualified graduates prepare for this year’s Batch B service.

Graduates are to visit the Nysc portal via www.nysc.org.ng for online registration and bio-metric data capture.

Here is a list of requirements that will qualify you for registration and mobilization:

1. Prospective Corps members should ensure that they have functional e-mail addresses that they can access and Nigerian (GSM) telephone numbers with which to register.

2. Locally trained prospective Corps members are expected to use correct Matriculation numbers to register

3. For locally-trained graduates, only those whose names appear in the Senate/Academic Board Approved Result lists submitted by their Institutions will have access to the register on the NYSC portal.

4. Foreign-trained prospective corps members should ensure that their Institutions are accredited. Where in doubt, it is their responsibility to approach Federal Ministry of Education for verification. The letter of verification must be uploaded during registration.

5. Those who graduated from Institutions outside Nigeria, (Foreign-trained graduates), are to visit the NYSC portal, register and upload the following documents:

1. West African School Certificate (WASC) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or General Certificate of Education (GCE O’ Level) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or NECO (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent; or High School Diploma or its equivalent.

2. First Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate (Second Degree or Ph.D not necessary).

3. Transcript of the first Degree or HND.

4. International travelling Passport showing data page and date of departure for the course of study.

6. It is the responsibility of the prospective corps members who studied in non-English speaking countries to get their Certificates and Transcripts translated into English language before uploading.

7. All graduates of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Physiotheraphy, Radiology, Optometry, Medical Laboratory Science and Pharmacy are expected to have their Certificates of Registration with their professional bodies. Payment receipts are not acceptable.

8. Unlike in the past, Foreign-trained graduates should NOT visit NYSC Headquarters, Abuja for verification of their documents. This exercise will now be done at the Orientation Camps. They should simply print their call-up letters on-line and report at the Orientation camps in their States of deployment, but should come to the camp with the original documents they uploaded for verification.

9. Anybody who presents any fake document will be demobilized and decamped.

10. Prospective corps members should ensure that Passport photographs used meet the following specifications:

1. Ensure your face (eyes, nose, ears, mouth and jaw) is fully shown without bending

2. Ensure the picture fills the frame and centralized

3. Ensure the Photo background is white or off-white with no shadow.

11. On no account should prospective corps members register by PROXY. They should also remember the fingers used for their biometric capturing as these will be used for verification at the orientation camps. Those who cannot be verified with their biometric at the orientation camp will not be registered.

12. Only prospective corps members who want their call-up numbers sent to them through SMS and wish to PRINT their call-up letters on-line are expected to pay (see NYSC Portal on how to make payment).

13. Prospective Corps members, who do not want to pay, have the option of going to their schools to collect their call-up numbers and call-up letters.

14. All prospective corps members who paid for the online registration before but were not mobilized need not pay again.

15. Married female prospective corps members (whether locally or foreign-trained) should upload copies of their marriage Certificates, evidence of Change of name and their husbands’ place of domicile during registration.

16. The orientation camp is highly not ideal for pregnant and nursing mothers. Prospective corps members in this category are therefore to note that they will not be accommodated.

​The Nigerian Law School on Saturday released the summary of the final examination results conducted in August.

Chinedu Ukekwe, Head of Information and Protocol of the Nigerian Law School, in a statement said 1,272 candidates failed out of a total of 5,891 that participated in the examinations.

The candidates who failed represented 21.6 per cent.

“29 students made First Class, 211 Second Class Upper, 1,046 Second Class Lower.”

He said 2,999 got a Pass, while 334 came out with conditional Pass.

4,285 candidates were successful and will be called to the Nigerian Bar.

A further breakdown of the results showed 72.7 per cent passed, while those with conditional Pass represented 5.7 per cent.

Ukekwe in the statement revealed that the “Call to the Bar ceremony for the successful candidates will hold on November 28 and 29 in Abuja”.

​A film Producer, Mr Lateef Onida and his company LAT -Larry Film Company whose film ‘Aroni Rogun Matidi’ was allegedly infringed by Multichoice Nigeria Limited has slammed N25 million suit on the digital Satellites Television, DSTV.

In a statement of claim filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria by a Lagos lawyer, Olu Ogunmola, on behalf of the plaintiffs, it was alleged that, sometimes in 2011, the plaintiff engaged and signed a contract with a film marketing company to market his film titled “Aroni Rogun Matidi,’ which was registered with the Nigeria Copyright Commission and also submitted it to National Film and Video Censors Board and got their approvals.

The marketer was given the right of releasing the film only at the Idumota market in Lagos, and it was further agreed that the agreement shall not cover the right to exhibit the film at Cinemas, Television, Cable Network, or the selling of the film ‘s Porter by the marketer unless as may be agreed by the producer.

However, it was alleged that, Multichoice Nigeria Limited’s DSTV having had unlawful, illegal and unauthorized access to the Plaintiffs’ film aired the said film on the 27th day of July 2012 at about 5pm vide their Network Digital Statellite Television in a Caption Yoruba African Magic and the airing continued through the 30th July, 2012 in flagrant breach of the Plaintiff ‘s Copyright of the film Aroni Rogun Matidi.

The Plaintiffs averred that on becoming aware of this flagrant breach of the Plaintiff ‘s Copyright of the film, instructed their lawyers to demand for a discontinuance of airing of the film, and also demanded for compensation and damages for the breach complained of, but the defendant ignored the two letters written to them, consequently,the Plaintiffs were compelled to write a petition to the Yoruba Video Film Producers/Marketers Association of Nigeria.

While the Plaintiffs were awaiting a response or reply to the petition, Multichoice who had earlier stopped the airing of the film after letters written to them informing it of the breach recommenced the unlawful and unauthorized the airing of the film by cleverly changing the film’s caption to something else, while the entire features and theme remained the same.

The Plaintiff’s counsel wrote another protest letter to the defendant, consequent of this letter the defendant lawyer for the first time in their reply requested for necessary proofs, including video coverage evidencing the infringement and this were furnish to the defendant, but the defendant still denied airing the film despite clear proof sent to the defendant and went ahead to send to the plaintiffs a letter of authority purportedly given to the defendant to air other films unrelated to the Plaintiff ‘s film by one Frank Dallas Communications.

The plaintiffs averred that a check at the purported 102, Ogunsanya Drive, Surulere, Lagos address of Frank Dallas Communications shows that no such company existed in the said address. Consequently the Plaintiff wrote a letter to Multichioce demanding for copyright Documents of Frank Dallas Communications on Ayeloja, Owo -Ida and Ofin and the Films Censors Boards Certificate of same but the letter was not replied by Multichoice.

Consequently the Plaintiffs is now urging the court to declare that the unlawful and unauthorized airing of its film entitled ‘Aroni Rogun Matidi’ by Multichioce and serialing same by cleverly changing the caption of the film is a flagrant breach of its copyright under the copyright Act 2004.

The Plaintiffs are also urging the court to order Multichoice to pay them the sum of N25 million as exemplary and General damages for the financial trauma, financial hardship, financial embarrassment, loss of income inflicted on them by Multichoice.

However, Multichoice in its statement of defense filed before the court by the law firm of Ogunsanya and Ogunsanya, denied almost all the claims of Mr Lateef Onida and his company and averred that it acquired some Yoruba Soap Opera series titled Ayeloja, Owo ida and Ofin which came in episode formats with 26 episodes each from their lawful owner being Frank Dallas Communications, therefore never had any unlawful, illegal and unauthorized access to the plaintiffs’ said movie titled Aroni rogun Matidi and that there was never a time the defendant aired the said movies as alleged, and it is not in any position to know whether the plaintiffs checked the address of Frank Dallas communications being 102,Ogunlana Drive, Surulere to ascertain its existence or not.

The defendant then prays the court to dismiss this suit with substantial cost for being frivolous and an abused of court process.

The presiding judge, justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo has adjourned till 4th of December, 2017 for hearing to commence.

​About two weeks ago, Nigerians woke up to the news of the death of one Tagbo Umeike, who was later introduced as a friend of Nigerian hip hop star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

The death of the young man was brought to the public domain by a Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma, who pointed an accusing finger at the artiste.

As the Lagos State Police Command continues digging into the circumstance surrounding the death of Tagbo who, unfortunately died on his birthday, Fabinfos.com brings to you five things you need to know about the deceased.

1. Tagbo Umeike attended Home Science Association Secondary School and later graduated from the Lagos State University.

2. He was the first son but second child of his father. He has a younger brother, Chigbo and an elder sister based in the United Kingdom.

3. Tagbo’s father died six years ago.

4. Tagbo’s mother, Mrs. Umeike, is currently suffering from stroke.

5. Tagbo died on his birthday, October 3, 2017 after a night out with friends, including Davido.

​The NYSC Cultural Troupe has arrived the Russian Federation for the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students taking place from today to 22nd October, 2017.

The troupe, comprising serving Corps members from Kebbi State, will use dance and drama presentations to address some issues of international interest as well as showcase Nigeria's cultural heritage to a global audience.

They arrived Sochi, Russia, on Friday at 3:54 am (local time) in company of some officials, and are presently undergoing accreditation at the programme venue.

​The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Toyin Ojo, Ekiti State Finance Commissioner and the Accountant-General, Mrs Yemisi Owolabi.

This was confirmed in a statement by Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Governor Ayodele Fayose.

“Today, God gave Ekiti State and its people another victory over the EFCC and its APC collaborators as the State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo and Accountant General, Mrs Yemisi Owolabi were released after spending 14 days in EFCC detention for doing nothing.

“In celebration of this victory over agents of tyranny, all public servants in Ekiti State are enjoined to converge on Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti by 10 am tomorrow, Thursday, October 12, 2017 to welcome the Commissioner for Finance and the Accountant General back to the State.

“Consequently, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has directed that public servants in Ekiti State should work for half day tomorrow so as to enable them to join the governor to give heroic welcome to the Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General.

“Governor Fayose will be at Fajuyi, Ado Ekiti at 10am. All lovers of justice should join the governor to welcome our commissioner for Finance and Accountant General back to the State,” the statement read.

The officials were arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on September 28.

The EFCC said the officials were arrested for their refusal to honour its invitations over alleged misuse of bailout funds.

​The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Ondo State in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Federal Government introduced the U-Report program, for serving corps members in the state.

U-Report which is a free SMS social monitoring tool for community participation, designed to address issues that the population cares about, was introduced to the corps members at the NYSC Zonal Secretariat, Oda Road, Akure.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Ondo State, Mr Sunday Aroni, made it known to the corps members that the U-Report project is going to enable them contribute to government policies, and give them a voice as to things happening around them.

The NYSC scheme joined the U-Report program in the year 2014, the program is aimed at drawing the government closer to the people, through the corps members.

​The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has explained why it called off its over one-month industrial action.

ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed that the decision was reached after an extensive consultation process with relevant stakeholders.

In a statement he signed, Ogunyemi, said the body took into cognizance major proposals from government.

Ogunyemi, however, placed a deadline of October ending for government to meet up with its promises.

The statement reads in part: “After an elaborate and extensive consultation process, the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU has agreed to conditionally suspend the ongoing action, taking into cognizance that major proposals from government to address the contending issues in the strike action has a deadline of the end of October, 2017.

“All members of ASUU are to resume work after their branch congresses tomorrow, 19th September, 2017. However, ASUU will not hesitate to review its position should government reneges on the signed Memorandum of Action.

“As a Union of intellectuals, ASUU shall not relent in confronting all human and artificial barriers to a transformed university education for the betterment of Nigerians and our dear Nation. For us, this may be a life-time project. We owe it to prosperity, for the sake of our children and their children’s children.

“We thank all Nigerians for their understanding of the irrepressible concern and concerted efforts of ASUU for an educational system and Nigeria of our dream.

“In particular, our appreciation goes to members of the Press and our dear students who at various stages engaged ASUU leadership for clarifications on the basis of our struggle. Together we can make Nigerian universities enviable. Until and unless this happens, ASUU will not rest.”

​There are indications that the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Lawrence Adetemi Omowole has joined his ancestors.

The news of the monarch’S demise which started as a rumour on social media has been confirmed to Press by competent palace source.

The source, who pleaded anonymity said the kingmakers and other traditionalists in the town were performing the necessary rituals before the death of the Monarch can be announced publicly.

Besides, the Kingmakers of the town has said Oba Lawrence Omowole had long been reinstated as the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom.

It will be recalled that there were media reports that Oba Omowole has been allegedly deposed by kingmakers for alleged abuse of office.

Omowole was alleged to have removed Oba Beniah Idiogbe as the Alaboto of Aboto and installed a foreigner, one Oyetayo Ofoaye as the new king of the town.

But, in a press statement signed by the Yasere of Mahin land, High Chief Godwin Balogun debunked the media reports, saying that the issue between the monarch and the Mahin Kingmakers had been resolved in a meeting of Mahin Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs held recently.

According to the statement, ” Oba Lawrence Adetemi Omowole remains the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom. ”

The Balogun further said the kingmakers pledged their supports and loyalty to the Monarch in his strive towards the development of Mahinland.

According to the statement, “That the Mahin Kingmakers pledge their supports, solidarity and loyalty to His Imperial Majesty in his avowed commitment to the progress and development of Mahinland and particularly ensuring the speedy inauguration of Oba Beniah Adeola Idiogbe as the Alaboto of Aboto in Mahin Kingdom.”

He expressed the appreciation of the kingmakers to the Governor of the State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi and other stakeholders in the state for their contributions and intervention in achieving ultimate peace.

Chief Balogun, however, assured members of the public, particularly sons and daughters of Mahin and residents within the kingdom of continued peace and the enabling environment for the pursuit of business and general well-being of all.

​As part of it Community Development Service, CDS, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC members on the Legal Aid Scheme and serving in Katsina State have secured release of 50 prison inmates in the state.

President of the NYSC Legal Aid Scheme, Peter Terve Gbende who disclosed this, yesterday, said it secured the release of the inmates between 2016 and 2017.

Gbende also said the inmates release was secured through bail applications without fines paid.

He said the inmates were in the prison custody mostly for drug related offences while others were accused of rape and homicide offences.

To this end, Gbende said it didn’t stop at just securing the release of inmates but took it sensitization campaign against drug abuse to schools particularly Government Day Senior Secondary School, Kofar Yandaka, Katsina.

According to him, “the NYSC Legal Aid Scheme is a CDS group targeted to securing release of indigents inmates. We travelled down to Funtua and Kaura prisons to visit and see the conditions of inmates and secure their release while it is a routine for it to visit the Katsina prisons.”

​The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, on Friday said he would arrange a meeting with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to address agitations by the group.

The monarch also disclsoed he would meet with some significant traditional rulers in the South East, to seek an end to the tension in the region.

Speaking on Friday at a public lecture and conferment of the Distinguished Service Award on the Chairman of the Oyo State Chapter, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Wunmi Faniran, and others, Oba Akanbi condemned the spate of violence in the Southe East.

“As a father of all Nigerians, I’m visiting the Southeast soon to mediate for the sustenance of ‘one Nigeria’ because when elders are in the market, a child’s head shouldn’t drop.

“I will personally meet the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and some notable traditional rulers and I’m optimistic it (the meeting) will yield peace.

“It is unfortunate the (IPOB) threat came at a time we have a serious government ready to fight the genocidal disease (corruption) killing this nation. It must be addressed.

“The best the agitators should be doing is praying for this government and (making) not secession threat. The country has been in mess owing to maladministration.

“Such has promoted the proliferation of militant syndicates in Nigeria. If the government is responsible, the spate of insurgencies will be decimated,” he said.

​Nigerian government on Thursday warned that N-Power volunteers caught or implicated in the sale of the programme’s tablets would be dismissed.

Presidential Aide on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment, Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, gave the warning in Abuja.

His words: “Information reaching us is that some of our N-Power Volunteers are attempting to dispose their device, we urge you in your best interest not to do so.

“Once caught, you would not only be dismissed from the programme, you would be blacklisted from other federal government’s social Investment Programmes.

“A lien would also be placed on your bank accounts for the full refund of the asset cost to the Bank of Industry”.

He reminded the beneficiaries that the devices currently being distributed to the volunteers were secured through an Asset Finance arrangement.

Imoukhuede said the arrangement was made with the Bank of Industry (BOI) for 20 months by the National Social Investment Programme.

“As such, the devices are to aid the continual learning and development of our volunteers, which seek to enhance their employability ready for the labour market when they exit the programme after 24 months.

“These devices are also their work tools as it would aid the discharge of their community functions in their primary places of assignment be it at the Public Schools, Primary Health Centres or the Agriculture Development Farm Settlements.

“In addition, these devices contain global knowledge content contributed by some of our global partners such as Cisco, Google, Microsoft on ICT, Leadership and Entrepreneurship for their continuous development,’’ he said.

Corps members of the NYSC Drug Free and Quality Control (DFQC) CDS group, Akure South Local Government Area in Ondo State, took to the street earlier today to sensitise the public on drug abuse, quality and to avoid self medication.

The corps members taught with fanfare, as they advised the public to visit medical practitioners and to avoid self medication, and also advised youths to avoid hard drugs.

​Residents of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, are currently lamenting the continuous shutdown of globacom network as subscribers are unable to reach their families, friends and business partners via their mobile lines.

Fabinfos reports that the service shutdown affecting chiefly the Bwari Area Council of Abuja has made subscribers in Dutse Alhaji, Ushafa, Bwari , Usuma Dam, Kubwa, Dawaki and some part of Gwarinpa to lament the continuous network shutdown without explanation or apologies from the service providers.

Speaking with Fabinfos, a subscriber at Dutse Alhaji, Mr Emmanuel Chukwuka described the situation as embarrassing and unbearable. He said, ‘’ Can you imagine that for complete one week, I’m unable to use my Glo line. Unfortunately, this line is what I use for my business. Customers cannot reach me, my family members cannot reach me. It’s highly embarrassing and very unfortunate,’’ he said, lamenting that he had called the customer service on 121 but could not get a satisfactory response.

Similarly, another subscriber in Ushafa, Mrs Josephine Abah said, ‘’This service disruption is almost the trademark of Globacom. This is the 4th time we are experiencing the development in this part of Abuja. But whenever you call their customer service unit, they will provide no explanation. Different agents will attend to you with similar questions, but will provide no further explanation as to why there is a network shutdown. It’s a shame that in this 21st century, a network provider could shut down for one full week, not minding how their customers feel.’’

Mr Usman Aliu, a resident of Kubwa said with the development, the best thing is to swap with another mobile line, but lamented that it’s difficult to just drop a mobile line known by majority of people whom one deals with. ‘’ In this situation, the best thing is to just swap. But how do you swap a line you are known with? We can only take such a decision when it becomes obvious that the network providers can no longer help the situation,’’ he said.

Queen Okoro, a resident of Bwari threatened to throw her sim-card away. ‘’ By Monday, I will throw this sim card out of my phone. I’m tired of this line.’’

When Fabinfos contacted Glo customer care service on 121, no explanation could be provided on the network shutdown as a customer care representative told our Correspondent that queries would be forwarded to their technical unit for further action. The representative assured that network would be restored in the next 24 hours.

But 98 hours, our Correspondent was told that the situation has remained the same, even as many subscribers have now gotten alternative mobile lines in case of emergency and for internet browsing.

When Fabinfos contacted the customer care service for the second time for complaints and to confirm the development, he was told again that complaints would be forwarded. The representative could not disclose what had gone wrong with the network in the affected areas and could not confirm if the management and technical unit were aware of the development.
