EducationWhich Secondary Or High School (s) Did U Attend? by damoche07(op): 4:52pm On Oct 17, 2007
This idea occured to me while going through the thread 'bad things u did in secondary school'.

Why can't we have a thread where alumni can catch up with each other?

Don't u think it would be interesting catching up with an old skoolmate on Niaraland.

Now,lets do it.

Any Christ's School,Ado Ekiti old student out there?
EducationRe: Bad Things You Did In Secondary School? by damoche07(m): 4:17pm On Oct 17, 2007
Writing my crazy secondary school experience will take some efforts and many pages but to give u a general  overview of my person,i was given an award as he craziest guy in my set.couldnt attend the ceremony.my parents would av skinned me.

In my earlier years in school.was taken to the boarding house. What a mistake!Threw away almost almost my belongings. Fell terribly sick because i wouldnt just take care of myself.'Prosecuted' a very popular senior in a theft case.Ran away with a senior's fish money.told me to buy fish for him at Mr Jide's house.Sneaked away under his watchful eyes and blatantly denied when confronted.
My parents 'rescued' me from the boarding house and my troubles began.

Remember leaving school during school hours for one Egbon's house just to watch films and maybe blue films. That man was a terrible man,he was watching us destroy our lives and didnt warn us. How i loved him then?

Remember coming late to school and then singing songs and hymns on the famous Agidimo hills taunting and waiting for prefects or cadets to catch us.

Remember all those great fights.Remember, encouraging the fighters with shouts of Sending!Sending!!Sending!!!Sending!!!We loved those fights.Remember the grea fights beween Akeredolu and Sulaiman,Campus vs Osadare etc

I remember playing fooball after school hours in class and thereby breaking he asbestors.Show me any Christ School boy who is not guily of that.

Remember shouting the word 'order' like they do in court when there is noise in the class.it became my major nickname.

I remember stealing and tearing that famous 'vernacular' fine book.It was costing us too much.

I remember using my textbook money to eat Mama Moshood's Pekere.Oh!the teacher beat me to pulp when i coulndny buy the book.

I remember been sent out of the class for disturbing the class.I went out, collected a friends jacket and came back into the class. When the teacher saw me,he asked me if i wasnt the one he sent out and i told him it must av been my twin.he was decieved for a while but my classmates' giggles gave me up.

Remember people consulting me for lies after we have done some mischief.i told them it comes by inspiration and it will come when they exactly needed it.God is merciful.

reember those girls also.i better keep mute here.

I also remember almost being lured into homosexualism on that fateful day in Aiyegbami Quarters(a quiet area of our school, hence the name.Aiyegbami in Yoruba means we have all the chance).

I remember a lot more but they are not things to be proud of.Thanks to God's mercy. Many had their promising lives got derailed and some even got lost.Glory be to God they are now stories.

Hope u didnt get bored.
EducationRe: Bad Things You Did In Secondary School? by damoche07(m): 3:38pm On Oct 17, 2007
I better start from the nursery/primary school.

Rememeber drinknig a girl's(yeah, peju is her name but av 4goten her surname) water and refilled he water botle with my yellow urine.she must av drank some cos i can remember we fought after she discovered and she stuck a stick into my eye.thank God it didnt fully affect my eyes but the scar is still there to remind me. was in maybe primary 2

Remember moving to a new school more 'buttish' than my former one.when i told my father that there were some damages in my skool and we were told to pay 1Naira,(remember 1Naira note wih Herbert Macaulay's head and big moustache,oh how i love that money).upon investigation my father caught me and my classmates heard about it.they were amazed at that ingenuity.Butties.dont mind them most of hem became badder han i became.

Also remember going to the quarters near my skool to pluck some fruits. The quarters was mostly occupied by whites.remember having a lot of trouble with our mouth itching us after eating unripe pawpaws and orangesa white threatened us with a gun one day.cant remember going there after hat incident.remember our ring leader then,Gbenga Ige.Only God knows where he is today.

This incident is disgraceful.I just came to that new buttish skool then and was just settling in when we were given a test.I was not there when hey taugh them so i planned to copy the guy sitting beside me.Imagine,a primary skool pupil. As soon as we took our test sheets i started and the next thing i heard was a an alarm from the guy i was trying to dub.Guess why? I copied his name on my sheet.I really wanted to dub him.

These are just excerpts of my primary skool experiences.Maybe one day i will be able to put them down on a blog or on paper.

FamilyRe: Orphanages In Nigeria. by damoche07(op): 10:02am On Oct 05, 2007
Seun, how are u doing?

I am single, young and my job can take me anywhere in the world.

Don't u think i will be doing more harm to any kid i adopt if i can't provide the care he/she needs.

Some people have decided to take up that responsibility but need money to help take care of the kids.i am ready to fill that gap.You too can join in doing that.
Take care brother.

@GL

U can try and contact the orphanages themselves but as u know adoption has a lot of intricacies though lesser in Nija than in the west.
FamilyOrphanages In Nigeria. by damoche07(op): 4:31pm On Oct 04, 2007
A colleague introduced me to this website that has a list of orphanages in Nigeria.

www.linkachild.org

You can also donate through them with your ATM Card. Its a non profit website.

If u are in doubt of their integrity,u can donate something small first maybe like N200,then confirm from the orphanage u donated to if they got your money.i have made a little payment through them, but i av not yet had the time to confirm with the orphanage if they got it.once i confirm that they got it,then i can make further donations without much fear.i will still advise that any payment must be confirmed.

One orphanage is just around you.

CareerRe: My Job Is Not Challenging by damoche07(m): 3:10pm On Oct 03, 2007
Hi friend,
I think i am fit enough to advise u on this issue because av been through it,infact am not yet through with it. The basic problem lies in the inability of most,(most not all)Nigerian companies to articulate a program for their new intakes most especilally fresh grads.after the elaborate recruitment processes u expect to be integrated into the system seamlessly.its not always so.Its quite frustrating and i understand how u feel finding yourself underutilised despite your certifications and maybe some experience. But i can tell u that u will be more frustated if u resign after a month.
Here are my advice. These advice are based on the what i used and am still using to breakthrough that frustating ordeal.1)'Wear' a great attitude to work.an attitude that exudes a readiness to learn and contribute.at least if they don't have the patience to teach you some things, they will definetely listen to your contributions.2)reduce the time u spend on that computer browsin the net.everybody knows u are just browsin and that doesnt speak well of u.u think your boss doesnt have time for u but i bet it,he is watching u even as busy as he is.he is watching your attitude and commitment.don't continue to give a wrong ompression by browsing all the time and going for lunch.3)frustrate them.yes, frustrate them.u have to frustrate them into giving u something to do.stick around them and let them know u are always available.having a great attitude and sticking around are great frustrating tools.4)be humble to start with jobs that are below your certifications or experience.i personally make sure i carry our equipments whenever we go around for presentations because i work in team.if u are senior officer and u are not expected to do the 'lesser jobs',attempt to do it anyway.that will help break the initial barriers encountered at new workplaces.Meg Whitman, the CEO of E-bay said that P&G told her to measure the width of shampoo bottles when she first joined them.she was a harvard grad by then but she still had to do it.5)Finally,try and find a more relaxed time to talk to your boss about getting involved.Let him know u are there to contribute and not just to use up  bandwith and eat lunch.he will remember u when something crops up.
I think thats all i got for now.Someone else can add something more reasonble than all the jargons i have said. So,u still have the chance to browse, very soon u wont have the much time to visit Nairaland at work again.take care.

SportsAdebayor's Jersey Worn Against Derby Sold For £50000. by damoche07(op): 9:25am On Sep 26, 2007

Christianity EtcRe: Don't U Think The Endtime Is At Hand by damoche07(m): 4:01pm On Sep 21, 2007
I believe the end is coming soon.

The middle east is getting ready for the terrible times prophesied.disasters, killings and all Christ predicted are happening in quick succession like we have never seen.
Evangelical icons are being exposed for abominable deeds.(Ted Haggard comes to mind).Pastors preaching on marriage and families are divorcing(Juanita Bynum,Paula White).
Gay rights are becoming more tolerable. We even have gay priests.Abomination!
The church has largely mixed with the society.there is little or no difference.
The church has shifted focus on love and souls to glamour and glory.
Few people want to hear and do the truth.
False prophets are on rampage.Just chek out a large percentage of religous posters littering the city.
Christians rarely preach of heaven, not to talk of hell.its more focused on either breaktroughs, covenants of blessing, firing ur enemies, moving to the next level, becoming a leader.motivational speakers can do that easily.we have left the weightier issues for junk ones.

the signs are so many.i hope someone else will add something to my liittle take.

Lest i forget, its also so hard to pray and preach this days.the devil brings a lot of distractions and strategies.Lord help me!!!

Christianity EtcRe: How To Preach In A Bus by damoche07(m): 12:36pm On Sep 19, 2007
Why cant u preach in a bus? Jesus commanded us to preach everywhere. If preaching in the bus is wrong, that means anytime a preacher comes up on the bus' tape, the driver has to put it off.

However wisdom is needed in doing everything. It depends on the leading of the spirit. There are frustrated, unhappy, and guilt ridden people in buses. They need Jesus.Once again i will say it depends much on the spirits leading.we must be careful not to stifle wen prompted but must be quiet wen we have to.I am gulity of stifling the promptings at times.God forgive me.I thinking sharing literatute will also do.But i dont know how apprropiate it would be to preach in an airplane.

This is my little opinion.I hope someone else will contribute sometin more meaningful.
TV/MoviesRe: HiTV And The 'Nigerian Factor' by damoche07(m): 11:36am On Sep 19, 2007
@olofofo. u made a valid point. They should behave more responsibly considering the hitches they are having. Its criminal to be smiling to the banks when u are not offering services u promised to provide.I hope one of those directly linked to Hitv reads ur point. Ur point doesn't smell of beef or hurt.

However i wont blame them alone. They must have learnt the trick from some companies, foreign and local in the communications industry who have been ripping us of our money for years and yet are not giving us the best of services. No one has taken measures to punish them.

We need to set a standard in this country for both local and foreign companies.

Seun, thanks for the clarification and lest i forget the editing of my first reaction.Thats quite clever.

Long Live Nairaland!!
Long Live HITV!!
Long Live Nigeria!!!
TV/MoviesRe: HiTV And The 'Nigerian Factor' by damoche07(m): 11:21am On Sep 18, 2007
@Seun 'n' Ayusman.

Sometimes in August 2006,a frustrated jobseeker visited Nairaland as he always did.Someone posted a link to a job vacancy and he applied. That guy got the job after 10 agonising months of joblessness. His life was turned around because he came to nairaland.that guy is my humble self.

I have always loved Nairaland.I preach Nairaland.I can't imagine not visiting Nairaland anytime i am online.I love Nairaland because its a melting point for Nigerians all over the world.Nairaland is purely Nigeria. It 'smells','tastes', and reflects Nigeria.I have thought of recommending Seun Osewa for an award.(God is my witness).Nairaland will outlive Seun.Seun will never know the influence Nairaland has.You think you know but you will never.Nairaland has grown beyond you even if you still own it.

Hitv is also Nigerian.I don't work for them, neither do i own any stake in the company.Infact,i have never seen it anywhere because i have left Lagos for some time. But i do read about the complaints fron Nairaland and other places. The complaints are many and are increasing everyday.I have started getting worried, but the 'Nigerianess' in me still tells me to give them a chance.I believe every company has its teething problems, just like u must have had when setting up our,oh your Nairaland. Our GSM providers(most are foreigners) are a typical example. They promised us qualitative services but u know what we go through after years of operation.we even pay for services they don't render yet we dont call for their heads every time.I am not here to support the seeming failure of Hitv to act as expected.

Seun talked about foreign content and i wonder if  The premiership(which is the priced content in sattelite tv in Nigeria) was local all the while Dstv was showing it.They just started beaming our own league here two seasons ago. They spoilt us with the premiership and i don't think Nigeria will ever recover from this.imagine NTA postponing the network news because of the Newcastle vs derby match.

He also talked about exclusitivity.I don't think i need to expantiate on that because everybody knows about the TOTAL exclusitivity Dstv had all over the years.

On the issue of foreign investors owning the company.i have to confess that i was surprised to hear you say that.how many companies in Nigeria today are not looking for  foreign investors?Even Union Bank, yes our own ultra conservative Union Bank is trying to get Foreign Investors. The inflow of FDI is a good sign of confidence in any company.Few companies in the world can boast of having their Nationals as investors.Diamond,Intercontinental,First,Access,Zenith Banks all have foreign investors. Not to talk of Dangote(yes he borrows money from foreign banks),Zenon,Nigerian Breweries(Heineken) etc.Does that make them less Nigerian. Its a give and take situation.Get foreign investors to make your business grow and everybody goes home happy.its a win win situation.Apart from foreign investors,i think i read in the papers some months ago that GTBank borrowed Hitv  2Billion Naira. At an interest rate of 10%,thats 200million for them on one deal.GTBank shareholders, hold on to your shares please.
This is apart from the gains from employment, exposure of Nigerians to technology in that sector. The human resorce development is unquantifiable.Above all other gains is the fact that whereever tha name HITV is mentioned in the world,Nigeria will come to mind.Anywhere Al jazeera is mentioned today, everyones mind switches to The Middle East.Anytime Fox Tv and other Mordoch owned media giant is mentioned people see it as American, but Murdoch is of Australian descent. The gains are endless.

With the discourse above few people will believe i don't work for Hitv.I still maintain that i don't work for them or own a stake in them.Just like i love Nairaland because its Nigerian,i also love hITV because its Nigerian.I can never love Nigeria more than Seun Osewa does because i have not done anything that has affected Nigerians like he has done.He is a great Nigerian.i mean it.He shouldnt just use Nairaland whom we all love to kill another company we all have hope for.

However if HITV continues with their embarrasing services and shows no sign of seriousness,we can give someone else the opportunity. If Nigerians over some reasonable time prove to be incompetent,i will gladly have any company from even Cameroon to  provide the services.
