I wanted to say that this is a new low for Oyedepo; however, I remembered that he is the same man who physically assaulted a defenseless young girl in public and then bragged about it shamelessly. |
I am very concerned about the NEPA situation in Lekki. It is almost non-existent. When I visited Nigeria for the Christmas, we had light for 2 - 3 hrs every 48 hrs (I am being very generous). I keep hearing that NEPA has improved but the last time I spoke to my family members in Nigeria, they said that the situation has not changed in Lekki. Why is NEPA non-existent in Lekki Phase 1? |
Biggyd2: A FORMER Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) director, Chief Charles Nwosu, was yesterday shot dead by gunmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital. Thanks!!! |
OlowoTee: She finished from high school some 7/8years back and since then she has tried so hard to pass in her compulsory courses, but not successful at it. Her most recent WAEC exam was not good enough, either...and, all she could alter on phone was 'I'm tired of my life'.Your friend needs to have a plan B. In Nigeria some people place so much value on education that they let their lives pass them by. Your friend has been out of school for 7 - 8 years and chances are, she has probably not had a job or tried to enroll in an apprenticeship. There are many lucrative fields out there that pay a lot of money. If you go to Alaba market, you will see many millionaires who can barely read. I know folks like to call them "money miss road," but they are able to support their families, and they enjoy the dignity that comes from work. Your friend needs to do some soul searching and find out what interests her outside of school and she needs to pursue it. 8 years is a long time to be away from school. By the time she graduates she will most likely be over 30 and she will be competing for entry level positions against 22 year old graduates from Covenant University. We must remember that Nigeria does not have laws against age discrimination. Most entry level jobs have age caps. I know having a degree can give her bragging rights, but a degree is worthless when you cannot use it to support your family. If she is having such a hard time passing WAEC, then do you think that she will be able to graduate with a 2:1 or a 2:2? Do you think that she wouldn’t have carry-overs that would keep her in school for more than 4 years? People should not forget that although a degree is important, having skills you can use to support yourself is even more important. If it hasn’t happened in 8 years, then it probably was not meant to be. Please don’t allow your friend waste her life trying to chase a degree that may not add any value to her life. |
seedord247: You dont need to tell them what u want..... Immediately they see you... They know the kind of car u drive and also the part u are looking for... Kwenu.LOL you are so correct. When I was a kid my Mom had a jalopy she used to drive. Every time she drove past Ladipo market, the traders were always signaling to her. It was embarrassing and funny at the same time. |
What is the name of the CBN official? |
As a Niger Deltan born and raised in Lagos, I admire the Igbos for being very entrepreneurial. I have always been amazed by the number of Igbo men who are very rich despite having limited formal education. I also admire the way Igbos have established a culture of lifting each other up via apprenticeships geared towards giving members of their family/community skills and resources they can use to become financially independent. However, my favorite Nigerian tribe is still the Yoruba race. Of all Nigeria's tribes, Yorubas are the most educated, the most enlightened, and the most accommodating. As a minority in Nigeria, if I was to choose among the options of living in a part of the country dominated by, Yorubas, or Igbos, or Hausas, I would pick Yorubas. As for living in the North as a Southern Christian, we all know that there are security concerns. However, I was disappointed when Governor Theodore Orji fired people from the Abia state civil service, not because of their performance, but because of their state of origin. If Orji can openly discriminate against another Igbo man from another state, is it me a non Igbo that he will accommodate? I don’t mean to digress. I just wanted to address any issue I anticipate folks bringing up. |
Billyonaire: Their merger should not fail. I expect them to merge and nominate someone better than GEJ. I am yet to see such a candidate, that can buckle the Sandals of GEJ. Buhari is politically dead. Tinubu is politically in limbo. El-Rufai has gone loco on twitter. Sanusi too north-extreme in his belief system. I look around in all honesty, I see nothing good coming out of the abortion called Merger. What do you think about a Fashola/Marwa Presidential ticket? |
I am speechless. This billboard is ill-advised at best and stupid at worst. Whoever paid for this billboard is not helping the cause of Pastor Chris. This ad makes Pastor Chris look silly, self-absorbed, narcissistic, egotistic, etc. |
taharqa: "Major" achievements you said. The 40 laptops arrived in full combat gear. LOL!!!! |
El Rufai, if you are reading this post please hear me. Writing on twitter and commenting on issues is easy; however, taking down PDP will be hard. If you want to succeed in your ambitious quest, you have to get on ground, form a Political Action Committee, find young intelligent people to mentor, and use whatever is left in your rolodex to raise money to support these people to run for political office. As the young people in your group become more relevant, they too can bring in more fundraisers and recruit more young intelligent people who can contest against PDP candidates across the country and take them down one by one. Mallam El Rufai, you are falling hard from your high pedestal. Very soon people will stop reading your inflammatory comments on twitter because they will become commonplace. Please heed this advice before you become the joke of Nigerian politics. As our elders say, a word is enough for the wise. |
El rufai is a frustrated man. I almost feel sorry for him. |
@poster: First of all am disappointed in the way you addressed your uncle/his family who your sister stayed with in UK. You only told us what your sister told you! We didn't hear from your uncle or his wife. I don't think they're that wicked to ask your sister to stay home and babysit on the days she have classes and babysitting in UK or US is no big deal for most family. Everybody work with eachother's schedule to know who will be with the Kids when others are gone! I babysit, my wife does, my mom does, and my wife's sister did too for about 10months when she was living with us. You don't expect this folks to help in paying your sister's school fees (with smile or tears on the face which ever) and still pay for daycare even on days your sister could be of assistance? Also, am disappointed in your sister for presenting this folks as bad people to you! And most of all for still depending on them after 3 whole years! She's lucky to have someone pay her tuition (2 semester a year) for 3yrs and have roof over her head eventhough she didn't appreciate it. Having said that, the school system here is not like naija where the lecturer decide or have control of your life and future. Like someone rightly said, the worst that should happen is take out some points from her grade. Even if she end up with a C in that class that won't stop her from graduating. As per appealing, she'll have to prove that the lecturer treated her differently and acted out of what she had in her handout which in this case you sister (Abi Na you lol) didn't follow instruction! All the same Goodluck to her!
I agree with you. Living with a person rent free, eating their food, and having them pay your school fees for 3 years, all in exchange for babysitting is a pretty good deal. I do not think I am going to provide that kind of help to relatives when I am married. My parents provided this kind of help to countless number of my relatives and all those people remember is what my parents didnt do. This seems to be common in Nigeria. |
If the school would not budge, they I think that she needs to go back to your relatives in the UK and ask them to pay for one more semester, not as a gift, but as a loan that she will start repaying once she gets a job upon graduation. Another option is to look into the possibility of taking out a student loan. The only problem with that option is the high interest rate she will get because she is a foreign student. In addition, she might need a cosigner. I doubt your relatives would want to cosign anything because it can mess up their credit if your sister cannot payback the loan. If she has a boyfriend, she can ask him to cosign for her. The best option that comes to mind is to ask your relatives for a loan. I am assuming the support they have been providing thus far has been a gift. Hence, she has to be somber when she approaches them. She has to thank them for all the support that they have provided thus far. She has to apologize for placing this burden on them, and she has to give them her word and her honor that she will pay them back for this one semester tuition loan that she is requesting from them. |
Ufeolorun: jonathan popular in the SWJonathan did not win in Gombe State. Buhari won 60% and Jonathan won 38%. From anecdotal evidence, I hear that Adamawa is almost 48% Christian. GEJ supposed to win a state like Adamawa. |
sbeezy8: you make no sense. to think that non SW living will in the SW is around 30-40% is just plain.... D.UMB.There is a large non-Yoruba population in Lagos. Outside of Lagos the SW is predominantly Yoruba. The larger point I was making was that even if Jonathan loses the SW, he will still get btwn 30 and 40% because of ethnic and religous reasons. |
jmaine: Wrong bruv . .last i checked, GEJ won outstandingly in the strongest ACN state which is Lagos; and he also won in Ogun, Oyo and Ekiti, all with ACN governors . . .With Osun the only exception to the rule . . .I agree with you that there are complex undertones that sway voters. Remember that Ribadu's candidacy was severely damaged by the failure of the alliance talks to be fruitful. In addition, ACN did not mobilize voters for Ribadu on Election Day. I know that for a fact. If you think that Jonathan is still as popular in the SW as he was in 2011, then a big surprise is awaiting you. People were hoodwinked, they believed in Jonathan's tale of having no shoes. In politics perception is important. Right now, when it comes to Presidential politics, people view the opposition as midgets next to an elephant. A merger will help close that perception gap. Once the gap is closed the opposition will be able to attract more votes. Yes, SW voted Jonathan for President but they elected ACN governors. The NW and NE voted for Buhari for President, but they voted for PDP governors as well. What I am saying is that if ACN and CPC come together, they have a realistic chance of making inroads in 18 states. They have proven that they have some level of support in those states. An alliance can help solidify that support. The Southwest is disappointed with Jonathan. Jonathan will probably lose the SW in 2015. However, it does not mean that he will lose the Presidency. All Jonathan needs is to win the SE, SS, and NC and hold steady at 25 - 30% in the NW and WE as he did in 2011. Even if he loses the SW, there are enough Igbos and Niger Delta folks in the SW to give him 35 - 40%. After all is said and done, the most realistic outcome of the alliance is a very respectable second place finish in the Presidential election (45% and above), more governors and legislators for the opposition, and momentum to have a very realistic chance of winning the Presidency in 2019. Notwithstanding, anything can still happen. A Fashola candidacy for President could make GEJ pee in his pants. |
dedeike: I wouldnt want the alliance to fail. I want it to succeed so that the opposition can be strengthened. It's healthy for our democracy. But unfortunately, the merger of ACN and CPC is of no consequence. The last time I checked, ACN controlled only 6 states while CPC has only one.My friend, you need to look at the potential of the merger. Yes, ACN controls 6 states and CPC controls only 1. But in the 2011 Presidential election Buhari won 12 states and over 12 million votes. If you add the 12 states Buhari won to the 6 states ACN controls, that is 18. ACN has the financial resources and CPC has a political personality who is very popular in 12 states. The task at hand is, how can you make Buhari's popularity in the North trickle down to electoral victories on the local level? |
Idokojimmy: It is no longer news that some opposition Parties are working assiduously to see how they can dislodge PDP from power. Notable figures here include ACN and CPC. Recently, these parties reportedly held a meeting in Ghana, to fine tune the merger talk. But will the alliance work? If you ask me, I'll say their chances are slim. For instance,Here are my rebuttals to your arguments according to how you have listed them above: 1. Picking the party name is not a big issue. It can be Action Congress for Progressive Change (ACPC) or Action Congress Alliance or it can be a completely new name. It is not a big deal. 2. Like any merger, there is a senior partner and a junior partner. We all know that AC will be the major financier of the new party. Based on the result from the governorship and national assembly election of 2011, ACN proved itself to have a stronger grassroots network. However, based on the result from the Presidential election, Buhari also proved that he could get 12 million votes based almost entirely on his name recognition and goodwill in the North. When you analyze these two things, AC is the senior partner. They have more financial resources and they have a grassroots network that elected more governors and legislators. CPC has potential but they need the resources of AC to help Buhari’s popularity trickle down to electoral victories on the local level. To settle the issue of who has a greater say, the party leadership can have both a Governing Council and a Board of Trustees. In the Governing Council, AC and CPC will have an equal number of members, while in the Boart of Trustees membership will be based on the proportion of sits won in the 2011 national assembly election. 3. Aburi accord did not fail because it was held in Ghana. The agreement signed by Ojukwu and Gowon would have failed even if it was signed in the Vatican. 4. The personalities you mention above are not the only political personalities in ACN and CPC. They can also run a Fashola/Marwa ticket if they wanted to. There are other political personalities in the party. In addition, we shouldn’t forget that in Nigeria people switch parties. The merger can attract popular people like Donald Duke etc. 5. This argument is a bit disjointed. Tinubu persuaded Ribadu to suspend his campaign and support another Northerner, Buhari. Yes ACN left Ribadu out in the cold after the alliance talks failed but it was because Ribadu had no realistic chance of winning. Why spend billions of naira on grassroots mobilization for a lost cause? |
tpapi: No weapon fashioned against pdp shal prosperMy friend no need for biblical quotes here. PDP has betrayed the trust the public conferred on it in the last election. If Nigeria's progress hinges on PDP losing an election, then so be it. We need to choose what is in the best interest of the country. |
tonadoes: I hope dis merger will not see Buhari or Tinubu vying 4 d post of d president or vp vice versa. Dey hav both lost public confidence in so many quarters. I will rather vote 4 a known THIEF dan someone believed 2 b a MURDERER, cos Buhari's inciting statement resulted in d kiling of some coppers and xtians in d N after last election. Ppl ar stil waitin 4 him 2 publicly condemn d act.It amazes me that you are waiting for Buhari to do something he has already done: http://www.english.rfi.fr/africa/20110419-buhari-condemns-post-poll-violence-mosque-attacked http://allafrica.com/stories/201104190684.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-13126839 |
mactonnyso: A merger of Agberos (ACN) and BOKO boys (CPC) these 2 tribal and islamic extrimist in my opinion isIf the stellar performance of Fashola and Oshiomhole is what you call tribal extremism, then I pick tribal extremism over cluelessness. The last time I checked Yaradua used his right hand to sign Sharia into law in Kastina but nobody called him an Islamic extremist. My friend, if Buhari's record of building 2 refineries as Minister of Petroleum, and if his aggressive fight against corruption via the War Against Indiscipline, is what you call Islamic extremism, then once again, I will pick that over cluelessness. |
werepeLeri: LOL. Example - the king of CPC - dem dem. The Day o Kanus and many more of them.werepeLeri, after you finish laughing, please join Retardeen to pray for Boko Haram members to come out and confess. Please dont forget. Im sure Retardeen wouldnt. |
jmaine: He who attempts to push down an Iroko tree . .only ends up pushing only himself . . .My friend please do not forget that a giant who feels invisible is only destined to fall. Nigerians are becoming wiser everyday. All we need is a credible platform to channel our frustration. Once that is provided, the fate of General Airhiavbere will be visited upon Jonathan. |
kumbalo: Take a tour to Maiduguri.Keep Shouting "bastard boko haram" in Hausa after one of the friday jumat service. You'll get a proof. An argument like this should not be dignified with a proper response. |
WOW the 40 laptops have arrived in full combat gear. |
warrior01: you guys keep calling Gej a thief... And I keep asking: WHERE IS THE PROOF?Can you please show me a video of Buhari saying anything anti-christian? |
jmaine: CorrectI laugh in Ijaw. Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad. |
tshoboy: Bt Buhari's VP in last election nah Pastor,so wats d sharia talkPlease ask them? I don't get it. I guess when you tell a lie too many times, it begins to sound like the truth. |
foyeks2001: I wasn't born during Buhari/Idiagbon's era but heard a lot abt dat era from my parents...they were nice things I must confess...so I will forever support Buhari anyday and anytime...am not a northernerI do not understand why people cannot smell the coffee. The PDP launched a very aggressive campaign to assassinate Buhari's character in the media. After it is all said and done, Buhari is still one of the most upright Nigerian public servants. Sai Buhari!!! |
oxford: Buzz words on nairaland:Oxford, I hope you didnt forget to pray for Boko Haram memebers to come out and confess. Please dont forget. Im sure Retardeen didnt. |
onyewec3: A.C.N, CPC n PDP are all thieves....all of dem all so don't decieve nigerians.we'll vote based on the candidates and not party ok.You mean the same way Nigerians voted for Jonathan and not PDP ![]() |
His win was an ACN/Jonathan arrangee- Money deals, lowering pdp gubernatorial resistance in Ogun and Oyo.These were more important to Acn than a long shot presidential candidate(Ribadu),now that more ground has been conceded to acn and they are stronger for it,Jonathan has nothing really to offer them any more and that's why I think they would be more serious about this merger or alliance.
