Sincere 9gerian: GEJ did not go alone. He, along with other Niger delta leaders, brokered negotiations between the Yar Adua govt and the Niger delta militants.

However, lets not forget that boko haram problem started under Yar Adua. President Yar Adua, even as a northerner, was negotiating with Niger delta militants while at the same time using FORCE to crush boko haram.

The message in it is that Boko haram is not the same as Niger delta militants. Boko haram are terrorists motivated by religion. While money may lure Niger delta militants away from the creeks, money may not work when it comes to religion. Boko haram can deploy suicide bombing with ease because of religuous indoctrination.

Therefore, I always doubted the possibility of boko haram accept amnesty or dialogue. Its like a devout christian being granted amnesty after denouncing Christ. How possible is that? Or like Osama Bin Laden dialoguing with the US? These are all mere wishful thinking that cannot happen.

The effect of coming on board of the likes of Buhari in the fight against boko haram is that it will alienate boko haram the more and more, making their elimination swifter.

The truth is that at the level boko haram has attained now, even if Buhari becomes president of Nigeria, the violence will not end because as soon as even Buhari becomes president, he automatically becomes the number one enemy of boko haram. The only thing that will change is that more northerner leaders will enlist in the fight against boko haram and more intelligence will be available to the security agencies because northerners who were previously reluctant to volunteer information will now be more eager to so do. A combination of all these will make the security agencies more effective in routing boko haram.

General Buhari is a stakeholder as far as the entity called Nigeria is concerned, he enjoys inalienable rights to voice out his reservation(s), whenever and wherever he deem fits and I don"t see how his 'opinion' should be guided, or subjected to Presidential dictum.

Granted he has a role to play in the current restiveness in the north, General Buhari is not duty-bound to condemn Boko haram or visit Borno State to condole the Christians or Muslims that have been killed as Okupe said.

For him to come this far joining issues with a private individual airing his opinion on a selected platform smack of desperation to please, and an all time low in my opinion.

Going further with his 'Bole Kaja' conjectures to claim "Everybody knows that it was General Buhari, who vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan if he loses the last presidential election. It was in Minna, that he said that once votes are countered and he loses that people should go for blood clearly shows Okupe has outlived his usefulness in the Presidency.

General Buhari is a respected figure in the polity, irrespective of his perceived failings, and it will be wrong for dubious character like Okupe to make attempt at running down his personality just for the sake of it.

Sincere 9gerian: The TRUTH is that even if Igbos were the target, it didn't succeed because several ethnic group were affected, some even more than Igbos. Even the list released by the Kano state govt further confirms this fact.

Definitely, a Lagos bound bus from Kano, should be expected to contain passengers of various ethnic group.

Even figures from official quarters such is the police or red cross is jettisoned for SPECULATIVE eyewitness/nosewitness figures. I still cannot fathom how how an eyewitness/nosewitness is able to distinguish between the injured and the dead. In Medicine and science, it is only after you'v gone close to a person and examined (touched) the person that you can say whether the person is DEAD or not. I guess the casuality figures from the 9/11 attacks was not gotten by eyewitness/nosewitness account.

So many SILLY things happen in Nigeria and many of us are culpable.

And i can proudly say oshio baba is the best governor Edo has ever had. When you talk about demolition they were compensated and comrade govern is working not just in the construction of road but in the education sector. He has done a wonderful job and i have to give credit to him. The works speaks for themselves

The ugbowo road project is federal and the snail speed at which RCC is working is so annoying the traffic jam in the morning afternoon and evening is terrible if you don't have an ac in your car you are on your own. Let's wait for the rains to see how tomline area will b submerged?
Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I'd like to state a few of mine here.

For starters, this issue of water has being present for years...long before the Comrade's tenure. As far as I can tell, most residents in the state never benefitted from this so-called 'Ikpoba river dam project'.

Was this dam project intended for a select few? I know for a fact that areas along the Ugbowo axis, right up to Aduwawa, Upper Mission Extension, Ogbelaka, Oko but to mention a few still rely on the water board and generous neighbours for water supply.

I lived at Agenmonmen Crescent off Oyadie and Gapiona Avenues once upon a time. In the very heart of the so-called GRA and there was and still is water scarcity.

My point is, you can talk about water and its scarcity just because once upon a time, you probably benefitted from the dam project. What happens to those who never benefitted from it? Did the project supply water to all the corners of the state? Capital NO!

Whatever the case, I'm sure there are very good reasons for discontinuing the project. Rome wasn't built in a day. Let's give room for this wind of change and be the better for it. DELAY does not mean DENIAL.

Secondly, terming the on-going road projects as 'renovation' works, is nothing short of myopic. Haba! He has done a wonderful job! Give credit to whom it is due. Prior to his tenure, majority of the roads in Benin were nothing to write home about. Now we have smoothly tarred road that are properly demarcated and dualized, making life easy for both pedestrians and those driving.

Or is it the traffic control system? This has brought sanity back on to our roads. Still on the issue of roads, can you honestly term the ongoing work being done on the stretch of Uselu-Ugbowo-Lagos road a 'renovation' project? If this is the only project he accomplishes, he deserves a warm handshake jor! This stretch of road has been a nightmare for years now, most especially during the rainy season. Adolor junction is perpetually submerged in water and the gutters were non-existent.

Also, the demolition exercise is not something you can actually talk about unless you understand the motive behind it. My dad was employed in the ministry of lands, survey and housing and he explained this to me in great detail.

This ministry is the brain and back bone behind these demolitions. What happens is this...when you buy a plot of land and make plans to build, there is a certain minimum setback which must be given from the edge of said building to the fence line....this is applicable to all the sides of the building.

Even as a practising architect, this detail is very necessary before any building plan is approved. Some very stubborn people within the state deliberately flout this by either extending their fences towards the road, by building retail shops in front, which weren't indicated on the plan.

Others simply skip the approval process and go right ahead to start building. For such, you'll usually find a big bold and sexy 'X'...followed by 'REMOVE' and then 'MLSH'.

For those who built close to the moat, you said it yourself that they were given fair warning. Why didn't they comply? Now you wanna paint the state government black over the stubborn nature of those peeps? You're wrong.

In the heat of the road expansion and dualization projects, I recall that the fence around the Oba's Palace was affected and the Oba himself had to break down the said walls and rebuild another. The moral lesson? No one is above the Oba himself. If he can do it, I believe every other person should be able to toe the same line should the situation arise.

Lastly, I believe those who have eyes have seen what the Comrade has done and still is doing. This aint propaganda. In all of the 8 years Lucky ' Big Thief' Igbins spent at the helm of affairs, Edo state and her people were the worse for it. Could he dare paste posters of his face around town? People were ever ready to scratch out the eyes and entire face from the poster sef.

The comrade can do this because his works precede him.

This shows that it wasn't a one man decision but a collective one made by both the state governments and former heads of state still living.

She gathered just 3 persons in Lagos and asked them to say something about their power supply, and all of them said that power had not increased and that they had not had light for 3 weeks!!! Those are the views of an average Nigerian, right? *smh*.

I stay in Benin and Power has improved on my end for many many months now except for some few times when there are National issues, like last Friday till Wednesday this week when we had a terrible supply probably cos of the new Benin-Onitsha Transmission Line repairs. THIS IS FACT.

Amanpour just behaved as badly as that other CNN presenter (the Kenya Guy- I have forgotten his name) who presented an extremely wrong programme on the Niger Delta crisis some years ago, and just like this programme also gathered FAKE persons to conduct his interviews. Nigeria protested, He was SACKED and that ended his International career. She ought to know better.

taharqa: I talk like commenting on these 'how is power supply in yr area' threads cos they are relative BUT @emboldend, I stay in Benin (Ugbowo area to be precise) and we even at times hv more than 20 hours power supply, although always more than 18 hrs... Where do you stay that you hv nt witnessd ANY changes in yr power supply
