The driver died in the fire. He was trapped in the truck and called for help for over fifteen minutes before the truck caught fire.The tanker driver was trying to avoid a reckless driver and the trailer driver lost control and tipped over and boom . An audi carrying rice got burnt but the occupants survived. The two lorry motor boy survuved

The whereabout of the driver cannot be ascertained but the motor boy is in custody. This is the popular 5-Junction in Benin City, Edo state.

The “5-Junction” is one of the major roads in the city that serves the Benin Metropolis.

Daily, thousands of motorists and public transportation, especially to and from the Eastern part of Nigeria, use this road.

5- Junction was one of the most complicated areas in the state. The road was afflicted by flooding and erosion. For years, it was left in a state of disrepair.

However, in 2013, the Adams Oshionmhole-led administration remodeled and reconstructed the 5-Junction in order to salvage it from years of erosion and flooding.

The remodeling and reconstruction work on the 5-Junction involved the construction of Service Lanes on both sides of Akpakpava- Dawson-Uselu-Ugbowo section of Benin Ofosu Road.

It also involved concrete works, beautification, walkways and streetlights as well as laying of asphaltic concrete pavement into connecting streets.

However, the primary focus was on flooding and erosion control.

The Contractor in charge of the reconstruction project was Reynolds Construction Company (RCC).

The project was completed in 2013.

Today, the 5-Junction, which was constructed without any consideration for placing road-signs around it, appears to be relapsing to its former condition. Flooding has resumed at that strategic transport location.

Apparently, the drainage system built around it is inadequate to control the flooding on the popular junction in Benin-city.

I got in touch with this seller and he agreed to sell to me at 17k which includes the cost of sending the console down to Lagos. I pleaded with him to let me pay an advance of 7k and then balance him after over a week when I will be back to Lagos so I can receive which he seemed so kind enough to grant. He sent me a video of him turning on the console and various pictures of the console and the game on his TV screen, I felt it's a risk I could take since my guts told me he is trustworthy.
I asked him if it had any faults and he told me it does not have. He said he was only selling off because he ordered a ps4 online.

After paying him the balance, he sent the console to me in Lagos and I picked it up without any hassles, fair enough right!
He advised me not to play the game with a pass my neighbour generator and also use a fan to cool the console because of the heat. I got a usb fan for the game and didn't even bother playing the game when there was no light since I barely stay at home too.

I played the game once in a while and after 3days, the game started to trip of automatically. I left the game for some days and later tried to play it but it kept on tripping off. I got in touch with the seller to tell him the problem i'm facing, he said he never faced such issue. He said he will talk to me later because he was at work then.

I have heard nothing from him since then!!! Not even a bit of concern for passing on a faulty console to me.

Effective from Nov 27

Edo State Government has further reduced by 75% the annual levies, rates and dues paid by traders across the 18 local governments in the state.

This was sequel to series of appeal by the traders to government over the high amount hitherto imposed on them.

The state Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu who is also chairman of the state tax harmonization committee, made the declaration at the Government House, Benin shortly after a meeting between the committee and executives of Coalition of Oredo Traders.

While giving a break down of the reduction, Shaibu explained that the traders will now pay 12 thousand naira as against 50 thousand naira for medium sized stores while small sized stores which hitherto paid 25 thousand naira will now pay 8 thousand naira per annum as yearly dues.

He further explained that the reduction was the outcome of series of meetings held between the traders and the government at the end of which Governor Godwin Obaseki directed that the dues must not be too high to be burden on the people. According to the Deputy Governor, “the implication is that the medium sized shops will pay 1000 naira per month while the smaller shops pay about 750 naira. This is in accordance with the directive of Mr Governor that we should tax with human face and ensure taxation does not become a burden on the people in our quest to improve the finances of the local governments to make them viable.

“We want to have a local government system that will complement the development of the state government. We want a local government that will be able to pay salaries and pensions and at the same time construct roads, hospitals and provide other basic facilities to make life comfortable to the people.”

The Deputy Governor appealed to the traders to cooperate with the enforcers to reciprocate government's gesture as it will be deploying the same technology used by the state in the collection of revenues, saying that “the Governor has insisted that we upgrade the local government in terms of finances as we use the same technology deployed by the state to improve its finances and block all areas of leakages.”
He however announced that the implementation would begin on Monday, November 27, 2017 warning that the law against tax defaulters would be fully enforced.

ÀOba Ewuare 11 stops the installation of Pere Of Olodiama

There is tension between Ijaw traditional rulers and the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare 11, following the attempt by the Ijaw traditional rulers led by the Paramount Ruler of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta state, Pere Oboro Gbaraun 11, to install one Godwin Ogunyebo, as the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom, in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state last Tuesday. The tension heightened when the Ijaw traditional rulers both from Delta and Bayelsa state, who were on their way for the coronation ceremony were sent back by security agents including the Army which stalled the ceremony. Sunday Vanguard learnt that they have been several attempts to carry out the installation but has hit the wall following the resistant of the Benin traditional council who accused the Ijaw people of trying to install a monarch in the soil of Benin land which is under the jurisdiction of Omo N’Oba N’edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, Ogidigan. After the botched attempt to install Godwin as the Pere of Olodiama Kingdom last Tuesday, the angry Ijaw traditional rulers accused the Federal Government of conniving with the Oba of Benin, to obstruct the land and territories belonging to the Ijaw people of Olodiama in Edo state. The traditional rulers who addressed journalists alleged that “armed security men who claimed to be acting from orders from above prevented them from accessing Olodiama Kingdom where a new King was to be crowned”. According to the monarchs they were heading to Gelegele community where the installation was to hold on Tuesday where they were barred from proceeding. Spokesman of Gbaramatu traditional kingdom, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, accused Oba Ewuare 11 of masterminding the incident, alleging that “the monarch has been making moves to annex ijaw enclave to his kingdom. The entourage and their chiefs were on their way to Gelegele for the coronation ceremony of the traditional ruler of Olodiama kingdom in Edo state, but we got information that there was a military siege in Gelegele throughout the night. From happenings we suspect that the Oba of Benin knows about the plot to stop the coronation. The Benin kingdom has been struggling to annex Olodiaman Kingdom as part of their territory because of the oil and the sea port recently sited in Gelegele. Olodiaman kingdom has always had king but there was an interregnum at a point but following interventions, the people agreed on a new king. So these monarchs from Bayelsa and Delta state were going to felicitate with the new monarch when information reached that no one was allowed in and out of the area. We are not happy with the situation, this is neither an issue of militancy or criminality. For the Federal government to reach the people it needs a head to talk to the people. Halting the installation is an aberration and something we cannot accept”.

Vanguard learnt that the state government became worried about the development in the area, when it got hint of the planned installation ceremony and alerted security agencies to stop what they described as illegality through a letter signed by the Secretary to the state Government, Osarodion Ogie. That was how security agents aborted the ceremony. The Benin monarch who was angered with the development reacted through his top chiefs, led by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe and the Esogban of the Kingdom, Chief David Edebiri, who declared that the Ijaws have no right over Gelegele land following a Supreme Court judgment of 1986. The Iyase recalled that the Ijaws took similar action then but the then Bendel state government stopped the action declaring that Gelegele land is an enclave of the Benin monarch. Chief Igbe gave historical background of what was said then by the Bendel state government on the issue. His words, “Perhaps it is necessary to tell you that in 1986, exactly what they are doing now happened. risonment for six months or two years respectively without an option of fine”.

Reacting on the current situation, Chief Igbe said, “Once again they did exactly what they did before. They want to install a new Chief by whatever name and the matter has come to the notice of our father Oba Ewuare 11. We want to state this categorically, that Ovia North East is under the authority of the Oba of Benin who is the prescribed authority. We only have one monarch in the whole Edo South senatorial district, that is the Oba. The title Pere of Olodiama Kingdom does not exist. Gelegele is under the over lordship of the Oba of Benin and there cannot be two Monarchs in Benin. We would advise that any one who recognizes of purports to install or present himself to be installed as a traditional ruler outside the provisions of the Edo state Traditional Rulers and chiefs edict of 1979 is in violation, and would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly. We are advising the Pere of Gbaramatu, Delta state to avoid falling foul of the relevant laws of Edo state. The Ijaw people in Gelegele are free to live in the area just as any other ethnic groups that live in that axis. Any attempt to lay claim to non-existent title and community or village under any guise would be totally resisted. We call on law enforcement agencies to fully investigate and arrest those that are behind this abominable and sacrilegious act”.

Also reacting in a statement signed by the Secretary to the state Government, Osarodion Ogie, Governor Obaseki ordered security agents to arrest the perpetrators of the illegal act which he described as sacrilegious and an affront on the authority of the Oba of Benin. “the pronouncement constitutes an unprecedented affront to the long-settled culture, traditions and norms of our people. Government is of the view that the claim of such a non-existent title in a non-existent community under any guise is a clear and pre-meditated breach of our Laws particularly the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law of Edo State which said Law sets out the list of all recognised Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in Edo State. The said Law further makes it a criminal offence for any person to recognise or purport to install any person as a Traditional Ruler except as provided for under the Law and in fact makes it an offence for any unqualified person to present or permit to be so addressed.”

The Edo State SSG, maintained that the state government is of the view that “this act is intended to precipitate strife and contestation leading inevitably to the breakdown of Law and Order in our dear State.” He said in the light of the foregoing, Governor Godwin Obaseki has issued clear directives to the Law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies to take all steps to immediately abort the proposed or purported coronation anywhere within Edo State on the date proposed or on any other date whatsoever..Obaseki also directed law enforcement agencies to effect the immediate arrest and prosecution of all persons involved in the said coronation either as beneficiary, participant or sponsor, to the full extent of all extant laws, as the government and people of Edo State have always projected a peaceful and welcoming disposition to all persons living within its boundaries. “Edo State Government will not tolerate actions and pronouncements which seek to abuse the hospitality which our land offers. Let it be clearly noted that this Government will take all necessary steps to preserve our peace, enforce our Laws and defend our revered institutions. All those who intend to test the resolve of Government in this regard should be assured of the certainty that swift and severe sanctions will be the natural conserisonment for six months or two years respectively without an option of fine”.

The suspects are also linked to a dead body that was found wrapped at the Apenkwa neighbourhood two weeks ago.

A suspected cyber crime syndicate was last Saturday busted by the Achimota Mile 7 Police in Accra. In all, 29 suspects, all Nigerians, were arrested in an early morning swoop on a house at Alhaji Tabora in Accra.



Retrieved from the suspects were 34 laptops and 48 mobile phones they allegedly used in committing crimes.

The suspects are also linked to a dead body that was found wrapped at the Apenkwa neighbourhood two weeks ago.

The suspects are aged from 21 to 30.

Another suspect, Peter Konadu Frimpong, 34, who was on top of a storey building videoing the police action, was also arrested.

The suspects

Among the suspects rounded up were Ike Ogu, 24; Ike Iduozi, 23; Blessing Adebayo, 25; Awudu Abdul Razak, 23; Daley Emmanuel, 26; Moses Madjaki, 30; Onaghnise Osahou, 24; Peter Andrews,25; Benjamin Akumeze, 25; Kelvin Osayi, 23; Oforufemi Adrigu, 25, Anthony Irughe, 22 and Kelvin Uche, 22.

Others were Timothy Irughe, 22; Elvis Uzeogbu, 24; Owen Zakari, 24; Joe Steve Obozu, 29; Festus Owubu, 25; Abraham Femi, 24; Suleman Abudu, 25; Abraham Femi, 24; Age Michael, 25; Philip Aghariaha, 25; Nathaniel Owobu, 27; Teddy Atigbin, 23; Henry Onege, 27; Daniel Ukuokolo, 21; Osas Uhuns, 22; Kelvin Ola, 23, Lucky Osahou,21 and Yakubu Dido, 26.

Tip-off

Briefing the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osabarima Oware Asare Pinkro II, said the police, acting on a tip-off, kept the house under surveillance before conducting the swoop.

He said the police met almost all the suspects busily engaged in fraudulent cyber activities during the swoop around 7 a.m. last Saturday.

“The suspects were all living in one big house where they undertake their nefarious activities,” he added.

Link to dead body

On the dead body found at Apenkwa which was linked to the suspected cyber fraudsters, DCOP Pinkro said a search on the body revealed that the victim had been killed somewhere and dumped at the place.

Information gathered by the police indicated that the deceased was one of the Nigerian suspects who had gone missing.

“The information was that he was beaten to death and wrapped and dumped there for leaking the group’s activities to a third party whom we cannot name. They saw it as a betrayal. We are investigating this case, in addition to the cyber crime cases,” he said.



The suspects will be put before court today, pending further police investigations.

Simultaneous swoop

In a related development, the Accra Regional Police Command, on March 10, 2017, simultaneously carried out swoops in all 14 of its divisions in parts of the city believed to be dens of criminals.

In the process, 112 suspects were arrested in areas including Adenta, the Odorkor Market, Kwashieman, Gbawe, Anyaa, Sowutuom and its environs, the Achimota Charcoal Station, Aborfu, the Santana Market, the Abeka Market, Kissieman, Akweteman, the Madina Market, the Redco Flats, Madina Zongo, the Madina Lorry Station, Madina Firestone, Adabraka, Tuobodom at Adabraka, the Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and Accra New Town.

Apart from the items, including electronic gadgets, retrieved from the suspects, the police found wrapped substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

At Accra New Town, for instance, the police collected 179 wrapped dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 61 wrapped whitish substances suspected to be narcotic drugs and 65 wrapped rock-like material suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Commenting on the suspected narcotic drugs seized, DCOP Osabarima Pinkro said: “It tells you the danger of people abusing drugs in the city. This is a contributory factor to the violent crimes, including murder, suicide and robbery.”

He said it was, therefore, important that the police conducted those swoops to get rid of criminals to make the communities safer.

“Police work thrives on information. What we want the public to do is provide us with information. They should give us information on the hideouts of these criminals. They know them; they live with some of them. If possible, they should come to me personally,” he appealed.

He urged the public to erase the perception that when they reported crime to the police, the police would turn around to reveal the identities of the informants to the criminals.

Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has perfected the modality for the employment of the first set of 10,000 unemployed persons in the state in fulfillment of his electioneering promise to create 200,000 jobs.


The governor, who made the disclosure in Benin, said government would introduce the Point of Service, POS, electronic platform for revenue collection via scratch cards for those who do not have ATM cards.

Consequently, Governor Obaseki has directed Heads of Local Government administrations in the state to forward names of contractors initially contracted as revenue collectors to Government House to jumpstart the job scheme.

A statement, weekend, by the Interim Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. John Mayaki, said the submission of the contractors’ names was in furtherance of government’s avowed commitment to streamline tax collection in the state.

The statement said government’s decision followed Governor Obaseki’s meeting with stakeholders in Government House on Friday.

Speaking after the meeting, Chairman of Edo State Internal Revenue Service, Chief Oseni Elamah, said the concerned contractors are those previously selected to collect revenue on behalf of the local governments.

He disclosed that the concerned contractors were also required to supply the names of their staff, phone numbers and passport photographs respectively, adding that, “this is with a view to capturing their details in our employment database.”

LynLee Hope who suffered from a tumor know a 'sacrococcygeal teratoma' underwent a crucial operation at 23 weeks and then returned to her mother's womb. She healed and continued to grow until she was born again at 36 weeks. When Margaret Boemer went for a routine ultrasound 16 weeks into her pregnancy with her third child, she found out that things were far from routine.

"They saw something on the scan, and the doctor came in and told us that there was something seriously wrong with our baby and that she had a sacrococcygeal teratoma," the Plano, Texas, mom said in an interview shared by Texas Children's Hospital. "And it was very shocking and scary, because we didn't know what that long word meant or what diagnosis that would bring,"

Sacrococcygeal teratoma is a tumor that develops before birth and grows from a baby's coccyx, the tailbone. Found more often in girls than boys, this tumor occurs in one out of every 35,000 births.
"This is the most common tumor we see in a newborn," said Dr. Darrell Cass, co-director of Texas Children's Fetal Center and associate professor of surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College Medicine. "Even though it's the most common we see, it's still pretty rare."
Booemer had been pregnant with twins, but lost one of the babies before her second trimester so it was a shock at 16 weeks to learn of her daughter's rare birth defect.

"Some of these tumors can be very well-tolerated, so the fetus has it and can get born with it and we can take it out after the baby's born," said Cass. "But about half of the time, they cause problems for the fetus and it's usually causing problems because of a blood flow problem."

Cass explained that the tumor is trying to grow by sucking blood flow from the baby, yet the baby is also trying to grow, too "so it becomes a competition. And in some instances, the tumor wins and the heart just can't keep up and the heart goes into failure and the baby dies," he said.

With a large tumor stealing the blood supply, Boemer's fetus was becoming more ill each day, doctors explained to the expectant mother. Something had to be done.

Although other doctors had advised her to terminate the pregnancy, Cass and his team told her about another possibility: fetal surgery. This option, though, would not be an easy road. Even worse, her baby's chances of survival would be grim.

"LynLee didn't have much of a chance," Boemer said. "At 23 weeks, the tumor was shutting her heart down and causing her to go into cardiac failure, so it was a choice of allowing the tumor to take over her body or giving her a chance at life. It was an easy decision for us: We wanted to give her life.
She was 23 weeks and 5 days pregnant, when Cass and his partner surgeon, Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, performed the emergency fetal surgery. By this time, the tumor was nearly larger than the fetus. They operated for about five hours.


"The part on the fetus we do very, very quickly," said Cass. "It's only 20 minutes or so on the actual fetus." Most of the time is spent opening the uterus, which he described as "a big muscle lined with membranes. We don't want the mom's health to be jeopardized," said Cass, who explained they work carefully, both making the incision and sewing it up in order "to make that uterus be as sealed and as water tight as possible."
Still, Cass said, the tumor in this case was so large a huge incision was needed to get to it, "so it ended up that the baby was hanging out in the air... Essentially, the fetus is outside, like completely out, all the amniotic fluid falls out, it's actually fairly dramatic," said Cass.

The surgical team removed the bulk of the tumor. When they finished their operation, the surgeons placed LynLee back inside the womb and sewed her mother's uterus shut. It's kind of a miracle you're able to open the uterus like that and seal it all back and the whole thing works," said Cass.

Boemer was on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. Despite her pain, she marshaled her strength and made it another 12 weeks to nearly 36 weeks -- full term -- when Lynlee Hope was born for the second time via C-section on June 6. She weighed 5 pounds and 5 ounces.

After she was born, LynLee faced one more ordeal: removing the bits of tumor that surgeons could not reach, which had begun to grow again.

"At eight days old, she had more surgery, and they were able to remove the rest of the tumor," explained Boemer. LynLee recovered in the NICU and weeks later, arrived in her family home. Baby Boemer is still an infant but is doing beautiful," said Cass, remarking that she is perfectly healthy. His one previous surgery of this kind was also a success. "I think she's about 7 now, and she sings karaoke to Taylor swift -- she's completely normal," said Cass.
