The soldiers that guard the RCC expertrate staff along ugbowo always have their hands on their trigger and always alert. They should go and see the chinese construction workers in ogbomoso they don't even have police escort and move freely all through the day. I weep for my beloved edo state. 2013-07-06 23:00:52 Recent deaths of Nigeria's ex-footballers has sent warning signals to those alive to act fast, reports 'TANA AIYEJINA I want to serve my state and earn money to take care of my family before I fall down and die like the others. It's about time to do something. I am making a plea to my state governor. Look at Sam Okwaraji's statue in front of the National Stadium (Lagos). Anytime I come to the stadium, the statue reminds me of him. He died before my eyes on August 12, 1989. What happened after then?" The above statement was made by former Super Eagles midfielder, Etim Esin, during a protest organised by former and serving footballers on the plight of the country's retired footballers. The protest, which had Esin, Harrison Jalla, Monday Odiaka and several other retired footballers in attendance, was held inside the National Stadium, Lagos. It was triggered by the deaths of ex-players in the last one year, the most recent being that of 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner, Thompson Oliha and Kenneth Olayombo. Jalla, President of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers, said young footballers were involved in the protest because they needed to secure a future for them. He also advocated for a 'comprehensive welfare programme' saying it would help curb life in penury for the retired players. Jalla said, "In our football, we have people who have been reaping from where they never sowed. We have to protect the future of these young players; it's about them because they are the future of Nigeria. If our football is still in the hands of those who are running it now, then there is no future for these young ones. "Our own story is a very sad one. As I speak to you, we have lost about six ex-internationals in the last six months because there is no inbuilt mechanism that will cushion the effect of the welfare of players. "What we are asking for is that 10 per cent of every income and revenue accruing to football in this country should be set aside for a comprehensive welfare programme for Nigerian footballers. We lost Thompson Oliha on Sunday and on Wednesday, Kenneth Olayombo also died. We also lost Sunny Ozogula and Jossy Lad. You saw how we lost Rashidi Yekini." Oliha died without getting the house promised members of the 1994 AFCON winning team while two other members of the squad, regarded as Nigeria's golden generation, Rashidi Yekini and Uche Okafor, died in pitiable circumstances. Yekini, Nigeria's all-time highest goal scorer was reportedly ill for a long period of time before he died in 2012 while Okafor allegedly committed suicide in Dallas, USA. In Yekini's case, it is widely believed that he would have survived if he was given the desired attention. Jalla adds, "It is unfortunate that the Federal Government has failed to fulfill a pledge it made since 1994. It's the usual promises government make and don't keep to them and this is because of the people running our football. They have made their money and they don't care what happens to the players. "If you put professionals there, they will ensure the promises are fulfilled. Oliha complained to me about his house and I wrote a letter on this about two years ago. The likes of Shaibu Amodu and Christian Chukwu are still being owed by the Glass House." In a country notorious for its gross neglect of former sporting heroes, the list of footballers left to rue their faith after retirement keeps progressing From the likes of goalkeeper Inuwa Lawal Rigogo- once described by former Ghanaian President, Kwame Nkrumah, as the 'Flying Cat' to Haruna Ilerika, Sam Nwobum, Sam Ojebode, Oliha, Olayombo and so many others, the trend is disturbing. Presently, Atlanta 1994 Olympics gold medal winning football coach Willy Bazuaye and ex-Eagles defender, Sunday Eboigbe are down with stroke in Benin City. The duo may probably have bid the world farewell but for the intervention of the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola. In fact, Bazuaye is reportedly bitter that "not even the Nigeria Football Association, which he served, nor his state government (Edo), looked his way." Former Nigerian boxing champion, Jerry Okorodudu, says the problem does not affect football alone. Okorodudu said, "I went to the Olympics, I did well in two Commonwealth Games. I won medals; in pre-Olympics, I won silver and was named African Best Boxer of The Year in 1985 but today, what do I have to show for it? "Davidson Andeh was a world champion, who won a gold in world boxing championship for this country as an amateur. He trained me, Charles Nwokolo and a lot of other boxers, but today, he sleeps at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. "Also in Benin, Roland Omoruyi, my Olympic captain rides okada (motorbike). It was (Lucky) Igbinedion that once took him off the street but the man has left office and Omoruyi has returned to riding okada. There are a lot of us who have nothing to show for what we did for this country." But the footballers have been blamed for their own problems. Some of them are seen as spendthrifts, who live luxurious lifestyles during their playing days without planning for the future. Monday Odiaka, the Golden Boot winner at the Moscow '85 U-20 World Cup, said they got nothing playing for the country during their time. "We only played for the interest we had for the game and for the country; we were not given anything. In Benin Republic, I agree I was the highest paid footballer there but that's a long time ago. I have three graduates and the fourth is in the university. I used part of that money to achieve that," the former ACB of Lagos striker said. Esin adds, "I might not look hungry because I am a born survivor; from gunshot to rape case, I have always survived. I made money no doubt. The military get pension on retirement but they look at us like bunch of illiterates who do not know their right from left. If you come out to tell them the truth, they will blackmail you and label you names. "I thank God I am alive today. They should provide jobs. Everybody cannot be a coach or work in the Glass House. How many ex-internationals are in their states' FA? It's pathetic. It's difficult combining education and sports. You will have to choose one. "The commissioner of sports in my state does not even know who is Etim Esin. It's very sad. I called the FA chairman, Effiong Johnson, when I heard of Oliha's death but he didn't even know Thompson Oliha. "My regret is that my colleagues are dying in large numbers without any benefit after serving their country. If they can die with a house, they will be happy but how many footballers have houses?" Nigeria Football Federation spokesman, Demola Olajire, however, dismissed the protest with a wave of the hand, saying the present NFF board had done its best to help footballers. Olajire said, "The protest does not interest us. It's not of interest to us. We cannot be commenting on people who are wanted by the police. We have othing to say about people lacking credibility. "Take a count; which other board has employed ex-internationals in various positions than the present board? Look at all the national teams, are they not the coaches? Look at the technical committee of the NFF, are they not there? Which board has done better? "In the Eagles, you have Stephen Keshi, Dan Amokachi, Ike Shorunmu and Emmanuel Attah. The U-23 former crew was made up of Austin Eguavoen and Ben Iroha; the Flying Eagles have Aloy Agu while Eaglets have Manu Garba, Emmanuel Amuneke, Nduka Ugbade and Emeka Amadi. "So, it is with the female national teams. In the Technical Committee, there is Christian Chukwu, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Okocha, Graba Lawal. Where in ogbomoso do you get up to 20 hours of electricity in a day? Please go to apake all the way to Randa area through to Ora park and ask people that live there how the light situation is like or better still go to Bowen university teaching hospital there and ask the security at the gate the power situation and then give us here another feedback. I know the light situation in lautech area,under G and towards that illorin side is better but don't just come here and generalise. The voltage in all the previously mentioned area(apake,randa,ora,californa n around the local government secretariat) is always low and I keep wondering why cos there are no industries in ogbomoso so why the low voltage. kaze4blues: With the various reforms that are been put in place by federal govt in the power sector and with the commissioning of several power projects and their addition into the national grid, I believe strongly that things have gotten much better in terms of electricity supply in the country. 3 Likes |

It is quiet commendable the road construction been carried out in benin city and its environs but the big issue now is the drainage issue which could be a clog in the wheel of progress. The drainage channels need to be worked on as once it rains for over an hour the flog that follows is overwhelming. It rained yesterday tuesday the 2nd of july and from uselu shell (uselu motor park area) to uwasota area was flooded up to saint patricks catholic church. It was so bad that the flood spilled from the oshiomole part of the road tho the federal government part of the road. The drainage actually seperates both sides of the road. Something needs to be done so that these roads won't get bad under a short period of time 1 Like

Excerpts: What really happened that you went off the radar for several years? I have been talking. A prophet doesn’t just say things. It’s when God asks me to speak that I speak. Many atimes, I warn our leaders but they don’t have listening ears. I was the only one who said President Umaru Yar’Adua had a terminal disease and when the condition got worse, the wife called some of us to Abuja to ask of the chances of her husband. I said the husband would die and Jonathan would become president. I warned President Goodluck Jonathan that people would make the country ungovernable for him, but people said I was a prophet of doom. Is it not happening now? Let me quickly say this here that worse than Boko Haram is about to happen. It’s no secret that you had some health challenges which may have been responsible for your absence for some time. What is the nature of your ailment? I did not lay off. Elijah was sick and he was still doing God’s work. I had an attack. A spiritual attack but I am still hale and hearty. Spirit cannot die. The spirit of God cannot die in you. The body may be weak, it doesn’t matter. But the spirit cannot die. God will continue to speak through you. Is it true that you had stroke, Sir? It’s not a big deal that someone has stroke but I am okay. While on a trip to Kaduna, God had revealed to me that I would have stroke and would be away for some time. So I looked for someone who knew about stroke; one of my pastors. How did it happen and what was your first reaction? I was going for a revival in Kaduna and God told me to go with somebody who knows about stroke. The man had to follow me to Kaduna. When I got to Kaduna, they told me one of my townsmen was sick and when I got to his place, God said I should not do anything though he was suffering. I got a room for him, paid his bills and left after praying for him. As I was returning to the church in Kaduna, I had the attack. And did you have any medical treatment? Definitely! Why do you think it’s a spiritual attack? I know because God told me about it. I know it could be exhaustion because I pray and fast a lot. There was this rumour among the people that one of the reasons your church went down was because you were caught in adultery with somebody else’s wife. Is it true sir? God will forgive you. Where? That is why Nigeria cannot move forward. How do you expect me; I preach the Word of God, I preach against adultery, then I’ll be caught in such an act! Impossible! Anybody can lie against you. At your age sir, are you thinking of passing over the baton to someone else soon? I am a prophet and it is not hereditary. God can choose anybody. When it’s time for me, God will tell me to lay hands on the person. God has not told me yet, I’m still a young man. There are so many people that are coming up, not only one person. Among them, God will raise up leaders. We have young pastors coming up in the church who have the gift of the Word of God, the Bible. Not only vision, people believe that it’s when you just speak in tongues alone or see vision. No! There are different types of gifts. There are churches as soon as the founders pass away you don’t hear much from those churches… It can’t happen here because it’s God that called me. When it is time, God will raise up another leader among us. What do you foresee for Nigeria? We are sitting at the keg of gunpowder. We are looking at total darkness in the nation. We need to pray very well because these political people are not doing the right things. Nothing is working; the worst corruption is in Nigeria. There has never been corruption as worse as this. The name of Nigeria is now corruption and some of the journalists are not helping matters. People are being bribed. But there’s going to be a revolution. The poor will overtake the rich. You’ve not seen anything. You’ve not seen Boko Haram. Worse Boko Haram is about to happen and we have to pray against religious war that may last seven years. Let Jonathan drop his ambition for 2015. Let him work and allow his work speak for itself. Most of his political alleys especially from his Niger Delta are deceiving him and are talking carelessly. They will be consumed one after another. They are already beating war drums if he fails to return in 2015; let them keep quiet. They are not helping matters. Very soon they’ll start bombing. The chairman of PDP is going to face another problem because there’s going to be crisis and if care is not taken, he is going to be removed. They are going to scatter them and cause confusion between him and the president. Most of these governors that are being sacked are going to join hands together to form another party. A new party will emerge which will be more powerful than PDP. Not APC! Gov. Rotimi Amaechi’s current challenges will create more problems in this country. What’s the way out of all of these? How can we prevent this doom from coming to pass in Nigeria? The problem with Nigeria is leadership. We are so corrupt and wicked. We manipulate things and we don’t allow God to work. They don’t believe in God. They go about looking for protection; some of them think they are untouchable. They don’t believe there’s God. One day they are going to give account. God is going to intervene in the affairs of Nigeria very soon and a brand new nation will emerge from the ashes of a revolution. The president is being caged by some few people. When you are saying the truth, they arrest you. Some of his close people are enemies and he doesn’t know. If he’s not careful, they are going to run him down. There are things to be done spiritually. I don’t need to discuss all these with the Press because our leaders don’t have listening ears. We need to come together and work for this nation because we have children. We don’t want our children to suffer. Because if there’s war in Nigeria today, Ghana cannot accommodate the number of refugees. They are holding notional meetings. If they want to do something, somebody will talk today; they will give him millions of naira to keep quiet. They are not saying anything, they are only exchanging money and that is what is destroying this country. Our refineries are not working; the roads are bad, armed robbers have taken over; there’s no work, now they want to sack people. The man is making more mistakes everyday. Every step he takes, he’s making wrong decisions. Many of his advisers are selfish and wicked people. They are just accumulating wealth. And they are old. They don’t give up. They are acquiring properties. Some say Nigeria might not survive beyond 2015. Do you agree? I went to America of recent and I prophesied and it happened. Let me tell you, it’s not America that will dictate for us. God is saying that we should avoid war; religious war. Sir, is there anything the Church or anybody can do to avert a violent revolution? As I am prophesying now, some church leaders and prayer contractors will take it to them to get money, to get oil blocks and buy aeroplanes for themselves. That will not solve the problem. Despite the health cha-llenges, you still talk like this. When are you ever going to get tired? I can’t be tired. They have tried me. I was the only one condemning Sani Abacha. One day they sent one brig-adier to me, I was in my house. As he came, I said something is in your stomach, he said yes, Sir. They said you should come and arrest me, he said yes Sir. I said but you have a daughter, he said yes sir. That day, my phone just stopped working I know it was their handiwork. When he came, God revealed to me and I told him you are going to land into problem, your oga will die. Before Abacha died, one Austin came to me. He said he has a friend of Abubakar, I said he’s going to be next president and Abacha would die, and it happened. There’s nobody that God cannot catch. If 100 pastors and mallams are praying for them, they can’t survive. God is about to move if they don’t change and repent because they have put us under bondage for long. These pastors, let them change. They will say we are Pentecostals, that doesn’t mean you cannot speak truth. There was a time it was only me and Idahosa that were speaking during Babangida’s era. Most of these pastors that were condemning prophec-ies, are now prophesing. Where did they see it? Jealousy and envy are the things killing them. What is your own assessment of late Pa Obadare? He’s a man of God. He’s one of the chosen men of God, a soul winner, has the fear of God. That’s one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He was a blind man and was quoting the Bible. I am a Christian and such I believe in miracles not magic. The little knowledge in medical field tells that Yar Adua was already suffering a terminal ailment, a combination of end stage renal failure, pericarditis etc. , he would have still died in Aso Rock or anywhere. He was in one of the best hospitals in the world( in Saudi ) but the doctors gave up on him hence he was brought back to die at home. The former CMD of military Hosp. Yaba gave a possible clue of what might of transpired. Airlifting the president immediately he relapsed into unconsciousness was a very wrong move by his overzealous associates. Yar Adua suffered an irreversible brain injury from that moment why he was unconscious all true the period though alive. |

Few days ago, the police authorities exhumed the remains of the late University of Benin, UNIBEN, student, Momodu Ibrahim, allegedly killed by a police female Division Police Officer, DPO, Carol Afegbai. The Executive Director, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Austin Osakue, has now claimed that the autopsy result showed that late Ibrahim was shot three times from behind by the police. Osakwu disclosed this while speaking on Channels TV breakfast show on Monday, which was monitored by Aproko247. The activist claimed that the three bullets shot by the DPO “went into the late Ibrahim through the back, tore the heart and exited through the chest.” He said the claim by the DPO that late Ibrahim was shot in self defence was a blatant lie. Osakwe called for the prosecution of Afegbai and not the redeployment done to her by the police authorities. However, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Frank Mba, denied that the police authorities were trying to cover up for the DPO through her redeployment. Mba said this when he called into the same programme.
